I was excited to try considering I do NOT eat hotdogs but these are made with Wagyu Beef. I will say - the service was good, the cart seemed overall clean but the thing that was lacking was flavor.. I got the Wagyu Terimayo with Wagyu Beef, Seaweed, Teriyaki Sauce, Japanese Mayo, Fried Onions. To my surprise, there was an overall lack of flavor! Almost couldn't taste anything other than the dog itself. Wouldn't get it again, sadly. read more

I ate my first Japadog in Vancouver, and every time I have a work trip I grab Japadog. Tonkatsu and Love Meat are my top favorites, but everything on the menu screams "EAT ME!" It's a hot dog stand, so the ambiance is as you expect - great street food on the street. The employees are always friendly, quick, and ensure you're happy. Trust me, you will be at Japadog. read more

Excellent Japanese take on an American classic. Very tasty. They are all over Vancouver, BC. So glad they are in LA.

What can I say? So YUM!! It was worth the drive from LA and standing in the burning sunlight at the Santa Monica Pier.

We always joked about going back to Vancouver just for Japadog, but now we don't have to! Apparently they made their way down to socal and I hope they're here to stay and maybe set up a permanent shop somewhere (even if it's just the same street corner). I followed them on Facebook and noticed they were showing up close to work. I had some errands to run and thought I'd pick one up after. Well the boyfriend found out and of course wanted one. LOL. So I got at #2 Terimayo and #7 Love Meat. $5 each and they'll wrap it up for you if you need too. Service was a little slow because it was lunch time and people were getting 2 hot dogs each. But it moved along and they were friendly. I will be back. Go early. Try all of them. Cash only. Japadog should come closer to Long Beach. Just sayin'. ;D read more

First found Japadog on the carts. The smell drew my friends and I into it and that was the best decision we ever made while in canada. The hot dogs were so bomb! We tried number 1 and 2 along with their poutine and takoyaki. Takoyaki with wasabi mayo was just the best combo! I cant wait to go back and get some more! read more

My overall experience was slightly different because I tried Japadog at the Santa Monica Pier instead of the streets somewhere, but the hotdog was definitely worth the try! Pros: - accepts credit card - quick service Cons: - pricing I ordered the Terimayo because it was listed as the most popular on their menu and I had no regrets! I was initially just looking for a small bite, but this hotdog actually filled me up. For 7 bucks, I would hope so. Hahaha. You taste the teriyaki sauce, seaweed topping, and mayo drizzle in every single bite. Pretty filling. It was pricey for what a hotdog should be worth, but it's definitely worth trying. Staff was also super sweet and attentive despite being busy and being located in a crowded environment. read more

Japanese style hot dogs??? Yes, please! So simple and so so delicious. I came to their pop up shop in the Torrance Mitsuwa for dinner. They had a limited menu - only 3 hot dogs to choose from. Naturally we ordered two of them . We ordered: Kurobuta Terimayo Dog: this is a pork sausage topped with strips of nori (seaweed) and Japanese mayo. The hot dog is pretty rich since it's Kurobuta pork. I like the saltiness from the nori. Okonomi Dog: a hot dog topped with bonito flakes, fried cabbage, and onions. The heaping pile of bonito makes this pretty unique and tasty. I like the cabbage too as it gives it some nice crunchy texture. Shaken Fries: these fries look a little sad at first, until you realize they are covered in butter and soy sauce. They are interestingly sweet and utterly addicting. The dogs are quite large so one should be enough for most appetites. At over $8 each and around $11 for a combo it is a little pricey for just hot dogs. It's worth a try though since it's so unique. If this pop up ever comes back to Torrance I'll be happy to come back! read more

Japadog is the newest fuzz of hot dog in L.A. This is hot dog chain is popular in Canada and just now is invade to L.A. I believe this is the only two location beside the one in New York. This is a food stand not a truck, but mostly around in Little Tokyo area. I came here after receive good suggestion from several yelp friends. Their menu is simple but is also limited; they don't had the gourmet meat that other location offer. The line was not bad during 9pm in a Saturday. The food stand is small, they make the dog fresh in each order. I can't imagine the wait it would take when there's a long line. All the hot dog were $5 each, with tax is included. We ended up getting their most popular dog, which is the terimayo. It was tasty, I like that the bread is toasted well. Remind me of those in dog haus, However, I didn't find the dog to be much exceptional, except is been slice all over the place. The spicy mayo and seaweed is interesting take. This hot dog is kinda like Dog Haus but Japanese version. Little bit cheaper and offer good alternative, but I not sure I would want to wait if there's long for this. I think this is great for like smaller event like Yelp, but not 626 night market. Anyway it is good to see more gourmet dog hitting L.A. read more

Oishii!!!!!! Japadog was so freaking good. My friends and I tried 4 different types of dogs and they were all good. One stood out the most - their #2 - Terimayo dog. I am craving it as I type this review. We also tried the one with daikon oroshi (white radish), Okonomiyaki and the last one was topped with kim chi. They were all good! The best part was the friendly service. I really appreciated how awesome they were. Follow their Facebook page Japadog California and you can see where they'll be. They are most often in Little Tokyo at night and in K-town during lunch time. I've seen them in Hollywood once and I believe they were in Abbot Kinney last week. A must try, even for non-hot dog lovers like me. Japadog has turned me into a hot dog craver! read more

Mm.... I love me some Japadog. Just a bit sad that they're not in Little Toyko as often anymore. They are from our neighbors up north, Vancouver. I was stoked that they opened around here and I was able to try the Japadog versus the similar competitors (especially in Seattle). They're a truck, rather than a brick and mortar spot. Lines can be long, the wait for food can be long, but one bite of that Japadog, you'll understand why people flock to this stand. It's original, tasty, and the mix of flavors - it's definitely original. AND I don't think there's a bad dog - just get the ones that pique your interest. They've been quiet for a while, let's hope they're still around LA! read more

I tried the cart in koreatown, and I'm impressed. I've tried the terimayo, okonomin, spicy hot dog, negimiso, and the oroshi. I didn't eat all these hot dogs at the same time, rather on several visits in koreatown los angeles. Right now, the cart doesn't have kurabuto pork sausages or the kobe beef sausages. All they have now is the all beef hot dog and the bratwurst. They were both good, but some how they weren't great. I might give them 5 stars if I tried kurobuto or the kobe beef hot dogs. The guy running the cart tells me they are opening in santa monica next month, so check them out on facebook. I might update my review later on... read more

Can't believe they're now in the USA, LA to be exact!! Whoever had this before must had in Vancouver first. Supposedly they have 3 food trucks so far and we chased down the closest to us which is in Little Tokyo. Not sure if they change their location each time but the one we went to was on San Pedro, cross street is 2nd. I was surprised to see their truck for the very first time. It's not your typical food truck like you see over here. We came very early just incase if there was a line but nopeeee. Guess it was too early? They have 10 items on the menu so far and maybe more in the future? All hot dogs are $5 each and I think it's cash only. Since I tried 2 in Vancouver before, I loveeee the Okonomi from them over the Teriyamo (sp). The type of dog for Okonomi is white, not the regular red meat hot dog. But the flavor they put for that one was amaaaazing! Kinda on the sweet side might I add. The flakes kinda add flavor to the dog. My friend got the avocado one and that one was not bad at all! It may be plain for some since its just the dog, avocado and sauce. Never had a hot dog with avocado before but it was very interesting. Can't go wrong with avocado! Welcome to the state JapaDog! read more

I was so excited to randomly see Japadog's truck in J-town. I heard they were in LA but on the Westside. It's a small truck with two friendly workers - I've been a fan of Japadog since Vancouver. Dogs are cheaper here than in NYC (another location) at $5 cash. They didn't have their Kurobota Pork dogs yet, but they said they'd get them in another week or two. I'm assuming they will be charging a premium for it. However, their regular dogs are good. My favorite is #2 - Terimayo. They grill their buns with butter, and the Terimayo came with a beef hot dog (juicy) with mayo, teriyaki, and seaweed flakes on top. Delicious! My friend got the one with Kimchee on top, which I think was #6. It came with a pork (bratwurst) sausage and a creamy kimchee on top that was a bit spicy. Good but not as good as mine! Be prepared to wait bc they seem to grill the dogs fresh. Some guy in front of us ordered like 8 of them, so we were waiting quite a while. read more

Waited for Japadog to hit the US from Canada since 2006 so you could imagine how excited I was to hear they had finally reached the L.A. area last year. I made it a mission to find them after one of my Canyon workouts. Found their kart off of 2nd street in front of a bank in Little Tokyo. Ordered up four hotdogs and awesomeness is the best way to describe the hotdogs. By far my favorites were the Yakisoba and avocado dogs. I was little disappointed to see that they were only serving half the menu of Canada's menu. Otherwise this would get the full five stars. Hopefully the full menu will be available to us at a later time...I really want to try the shrimpy chili dog and the croquette dog. If their anything like the ones I've tried, they'll be awesome. 3 years ago I stumbled upon the original Japadog in Vancouver, and today I finally decided to make the pilgrimage through huge crowds and half naked people to the Santa Monica location. Personally I felt like it was a little saltier than the Vancouver location, and the wait was a little chaotic due to it being a very busy weekend day during peak hours--but overall Japadog did not disappoint! OH MAN!!! Japadog is so good. I'd never think to combine hot dogs and asian foods together but it works. We were in Little Tokyo to run errands for a business and we randomly stumbled upon this hot dog cart. At first I was a little put off by the combination but thank god my friend talked me into it. She had their terimayo dog and I had their yakisoba because I love noodles. PROS: Trust me these bad boys are good! CONS: CASH ONLY! it sucks that they didn't have a sign saying that because we had to run across the street to pull out cash (from a bank that's not mine so I had service charges) and when we got back our hot dogs weren't hot anymore. But at the end I forgot all about the cons because like I said...their food is good. That is why I have to give them a 4. read more

Is this heaven? No, this is Los Angeles. But we are a bit closer to heaven now thanks to Japadog! No more waiting to get to Vancouver to get your fix from this street food vendor. In fact, according to its website, J-dog has ceased operations (for at least a couple of years) in NYC to open three food vendors (in Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Hollywood) and even a store within this year?! Follow them on Facebook to see where they land. We caught up with them in Little Tokyo. I decided to get something completely different. The LOVE MEAT comes topped with their homemade meat sauce (beef and pork) and aburi cheese (melted using a blowtorch). It was yummy, but heavy. Might stick with something 'lighter' next time. read more

Unfortunately, I've been to your Vancouver locations multiple times and that is a 5-star experience especially when you factor in the butter shoyu fries. The reason for my lower score is that JapadogCA doesn't serve arabiki kurobuta sausages for their hot dogs. Instead, it's simply regular beef hot dogs and bratwursts. While the toppings are unusual and very tasty, the MAGIC of Japadog for me was the combination of a large sized arabiki sausage (which you basically can't find anywhere) and the uniquely Japanese toppings. The price is reasonable (~$5) but I'd be willing to pay more if they had an arabiki sausage option. Please consider. Also, if you can somehow add your nori and/or butter shoyu fries to the menu then it will be a slam dunk. I will continue to visit though in the hopes that the menu becomes closer to the original Canadian Japadog. Hopefully, I'll add more stars too. read more

Fun and friendly (they're from Canada, after all). $5 cash per dog. Hot, delicious, pretty quick, doesn't disappoint. Definitely cheaper than Dogzilla from the OC. I often find them in Little Tokyo most nights after 5ish on 2nd St & San Pedro, across the street from the Marukai. Still eating my way through the menu since some items are not yet available (avocados mostly). Recommend #2 Terimayo (solid, a bit sweet from the teriyaki sauce), #3 Okonomi (less sweet than the Terimayo, a bit fishy from the bonito flakes), had a bite of #9 (so good my friend wouldn't share more). 2. Terimayo - Beef, fried onions, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, seaweed topping 3. Okonomi - Fried cabbage, Japanese mayo & special sauce, bonito shavings 4. Oroshi - Pork bratwurst, special soy sauce, grated radish & green onions 5. Avocado, cream cheese, aburi (torched) Japanese mayo 6. Kurogoma Kimchi - Kimchi marinated mayo, black sesame 7. Love Meat - homemade meat sauce, aburi (torched) cheese 8. Hot Spicy - Jalapeno hot sauce, lettuce 9. Yakisoba - Japanese fried noodle, red ginger, seaweed powder 10. Saw this truck in Little Tokyo a couple of weeks ago, tried the #8 (Hot & Spicy), and have seriously developed a craving for their dogs. The next time they were there, I got 2 dogs... A #2 (Terimayo) & a #6 (Kurogoma Kimchi) and they both rock... A really friendly crew, and at $5 a pop, its not a bad investment to try something new. I was at Anime Expo 2014 when I saw this food stand. It didn't look like a food truck at all, as most Yelpers are saying it is. I love the fact that most of the workers were Japanese so you know it's totally legitimate. Looking at the reviews here on Yelp, they say that all the hot dogs costs $5. Well, during Anime Expo, they increased the price by $1, so all the hot dogs costs $6. Don't know if they increased the price just because of Anime Expo or that's the new official price but yeah, I paid $6 I ordered #2, the Terimayo dog, because I liked the way it looks on the menu and it says that it's one of the "101 things to taste before you die!" Well, when I got my order and took that first bite, I just gotta say, it was incredibly delicious. Hands down, probably the best hot dog I've ever eaten in my life. I tried a japadog while on the Santa Monica pier. It seems a bit pricey and burned my mouth although I tried to let it cool.
