If this is the standard for hamburgers, I feel sorry for those people. This is a franchised greasy spoon with pretty decent burgers. I don't want to completely throw them under the bus, but man! Lapin and I live close to this location so we come here often. Lapin loves the burgers and get them quite often while I usually order the fries. The food is delicious and it is served piping hot. The burgers are a bit expensive especially for fast food but it is cheaper than Shake Shack. The staff on this location though, is sometimes hit or miss. Sometimes, they can be nice other times, they couldn't care less about you. They would be in the back room behind the register just chatting it up while you are waiting to place an order. read more

I go to five guys pretty often because it's right next to my school. We also have a shake shack nearby but five guys is closer and sells bigger burgers so I rather come here. The burger is perfectly salted and comes with a lot of toppings. I usually just order a burger with lettuce tomatoes and grilled mushrooms and mayonnaise. They also have peanuts for you to munch on while you wait for your food. read more

Let me start out by saying, I love Five Guys...best burgers around!!!! With that being said, when I ordered from them in the past just for myself, I never had a problem. I recently placed an order in my office for 7 people. Not only did we get shorted an order of fries but they mixed up some of the orders. Each order was brown bagged separately with the persons name on the bag. However, when I bit into what I thought was my burger, it had jalapeños....I am allergic to jalapeños and this could've gone very bad very quickly!!!! I called them and spoke to the manager to point the severity of the mistake and all he said was "I'm sorry this happen to you"....believe me when I say I was not trying to get anything out of it. As busy as this location is, with the clientele that are always rushing (school, office lunch hour, courts, etc..) the counter folks congeniality is first rate. It sets the mood for a rewarding meal. The prices here are in par with the other eateries nearby, so expect to drop $15-20. The patron bunching ebbs and flows, but stays quasi-congested. This location was my first experience with five guys and frankly I'm disappointed in every other locations I've been to after this one. This location was always clean and the workers are amazing. During their busiest times, their communication is clear and impressive. Orders are yelled while everyone else says "got it". I haven't had a wrong order yet and I came to rely on this location in my college days. Often times, I have 30 minutes between each class to find food, order, eat, and get to my next class. I always came here because I would have enough time for all that and be a few minutes early. (NYU Tandon BTW for distance reference) whenever my order took a little longer (only because the order was found wrong in the chain of workers or I had to wait for the next group of Pattie's) I was offered a little something for the trouble (extra patty, fries, free drink etc). Pretty standard five guys. Significantly more expensive than McDonalds, significantly higher quality. I got the standard burger, which came with two meet patties. I got tomatoes and they gave me two slices; I got cheese and they gave me two slices. They don't skimp on ingredients. The burger held together well, tasted like good quality. The fries are better than average too. Come here if you want the next step up from McDonalds, Burger King, etc. but still want fast food. read more

Being from the west coast, I am inevitably going to compare Five Guys and any other fast food style burger joint to our crown jewel: In & Out. While the two burger chains present something different, here is what I like about Five Guys: 1. Large juicy burger - As a burger should be. I did not realize a regular burger is actually a double double, and a "little" is a single patty 2. Free variety of toppings - aside from the usual tomato and lettuce, includes mushrooms and grilled onions, along with a variety of other toppings and sauces 3. Fries - fresh cut, tasty, and plentiful 4. relatively quick service for the amount of people they serve A few of the minor issues I have are: 1. Are the fries really supposed to be one serving? I wish they would have had a "small" size, as I couldn't finish even half of the fries, which is a complete waste 2. It is a bit pricier than normal for a fast food joint. I'm still undecided in the comparison with In & Out, but have become a fan of Five Guys. In fact, I would say I like it better than Shack Shack (I had the Time Square Shake Shack). read more

Just ordered a cheeseburger well done with pickles and ketchup on top. In the process of placing my order I noticed the cashier had not selected "well done" as an add on. From experience I know this is an optional add on so I asked him again to add "well done" and his response was "all our burgers are well done" and from experience I know this isn't true so I explained as much after which the cashier yells out to the kitchen staff to make it well done. After getting my order and taking a bite I learned there was no ketchup but tomatoes instead. Pickles and ketchup sounds nothing like pickles and tomatoes. I suspect this was some kind of retaliation for my comment earlier. It is truly a shame when restaurant staff can't keep their emotions in check and be professional. Furthermore 5 Guys please stop training your staff to say all the burgers are well done?! Between two locations in Brooklyn, near my home and workplace I've gotten more then a dozen burgers with incompletely cooked meat in the middle. They have the best hamburgers I have ever had that I didn't make myself. I got the whopping 920 calorie double patty bacon cheese burger. It just tasted so damn good. HORRIBLE SERVICE: I ordered five guys for the first time today and was not thrilled with the service at all. I placed my order online and got to the shop 10 minutes later. When I walked in there were 6 people on line. I walked to the pickup line, no one was there and the guy making the fries didn't even acknowledge me even though he looked my way a couple of times. When he looked towards me the final time, 5 minutes later, I gave him my info and he said it will be a few more minutes. Half the people that were online when I walked in already got their food and left by the time mine was ready. I ordered online thinking I'd get faster service by the time I got to the restaurant. I was in the store for a total of fifteen minutes. I will never order online again. It was a total waste of my time. I definitely won't visit this location again because the service was horrible and the staff needs to learn people/restaurant skills to keep the customers happy. If the man would have acknowledged my presence instead of ignoring me then I don't think I would have been so annoyed. To top it off I asked for ketchup and they didn't even put it on my burger. Honestly the slowest longest service ever experienced at a fast food burger joint. There were maybe three people in line and about five people behind the counter "making burgers." Not only were they slow, but also chatty amongst themselves and in a bad mood. The employees seem confused, bored and irritated to be there. I was in Philly for vacation, and I saw a place I had never heard of and I wanted to try it. Best decision of my life. I got a hot dog. Worst decision of my life. The hot dog was admittedly tasty, though. I went to another Five Guys in NY a few months later. This time, I got a burger and I was surprised and delighted by how fantastic this burger was. Juicy. It makes me woozy thinking about it. But, getting to the point, great great GREAT burger. Not as good as Shake Shack, but the fries are better, and the crowds are much lesser, so I would rather go to Five Guys. The fries are the best I've ever eaten. Awesomeness squared. I don't know what it is about them, but they are far better than any other fries i have had. And they give you an overflowing bag of them. I usually can't stop eating them and get a stomachache afterwards but it's worth it! After these experiences I have eaten at Five Guys numerous times if I wanted to put on a few pounds or if I was just craving a nice burger.
