This mobile food truck on Ave U has some great burgers. If you are hungry definitely make is a double patty burger at the minimum!. I had a bacon double cheeseburger with French fries. I will absolutely fix this review once I actually eat at this supposedly amazing burger truck that's gotten outstanding reviews. We have biked out here TWICE now and he hasn't been out here. He doesn't have a proper link to his twitter feed on his site (is there a twitter feed?) and does not update the Facebook fan page to say when and where he is each day, but we took a chance, figuring that with all of the press that he MUST BE OPEN. No. We were met with an empty lot again and disappointment. Owner: If you are getting a lot of press, you have to be on the ball and serve the future fans of your food. This is really uncool -- we biked from Clinton Hill, Brooklyn 45 minutes each way to get to your truck twice now. But there will not be a third until we are guaranteed you'll be there. In the midst of a hot summer walk going to Home Depot to buy ant traps, we stumbled upon this unique food truck that sure satisfied our hunger for a quality burger with some crispy french fries! There are a variety of sides that you can add to build your burger! We got the cheese burger with the traditional lettuce, tomato, and pickles but also some fried onions! The burger was moist and delicious as we bit into it each time with satisfaction! As for the french fries, they were very crisp, hot, and plentiful as well! The only issues we had with the hamburger were that the buns were somewhat small thus making the overall meal not as filling, and we could have used some more sides in the burger as well. Hard Times Sundaes is on my (imaginary) top 5 burger list. If you stalk the owner's Facebook page, you'd know that he uses quality ingredients (meat supplier, etc). If I'm not mistaken (feel free to correct me), he posted a link on his Facebook page to an article written on this same supplier. High-five for transparency! With the first bite, I could tell he uses a good mix of cuts; I can taste the high quality meat and it has just the right amount of fat to it. Not many burger joints get this down, but Hard Times definitely hit the nail on the head. Oh, and the person working for him is super nice, too. I heard about this place through the New York Times so, me and friend decided to check this place out. I got a triple with grilled onions, jalepenos, tomatoes, lettuce and to top it all off with cheese. My buddy got a double with the same toppings. And might I say once I bit into this piece of craftsmanship, i just had to quote Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction (1994), who famously stated "That is a tasty burger". The burgers here are probably one of the BEST I've tasted so far in my life. In addition, its great that burgers are freshly made because a) The burger is just 1000 times better and b) you can taste the authenticity of a real burger, not some frozen patty. The closer we got to Hard Times Sundaes, the more skeptical we became of the truck actually being there. However, we did find it in the rear parking lot of the Pfizer building on a Saturday at 2pm. Unlike our success in locating the truck, we could not find the hours anywhere online before going but ultimately decided to take the chance. We got two double cheese burgers and split an order of fries. I divide my burger judgements into two categories, fancy restaurant style burgers and fast food style burgers. Of the latter category, Hard Times Sundaes is the best I've had in NYC. The bun melted into the cheese and the cheese melted into the meat and the meat melted into my mouth. Definitely one of the best burger spots in NYC (I know, it's a very big statement). I got their hard times Sunday burger which consisted of a juicy patty, caramelized onion, smoked bacon, American cheese, on a buttered potato roll. After seeing this place written up in a number of publications I was super eager to go try it out. I looked over the menu, read up on their facebook page (twitter had an issue), figured out exactly what I was going to order and made the trek from Sunset Park to Mill Basin. I had driven by once before so I knew where they are usually set up and when I got there (12:30pm on a Tuesday)there was NO TRUCK! I pulled over and checked their facebook again to see if there was any mention of them being somewhere else or being closed that day, and nothing, only posts about their latest nominations for the Vendy awards.
