Stumbled upon this "burger cart" last week and had been craving ever since. Unfortunately, I already had a bag of Wendy's in my hand at the time, and it just didn't tast good once I saw the juicy burgers at Frites n Meats. Asked the guy when he's there and he said only on Wednesdays (6th Ave. and 47th Street location). So, after a week of waiting, I finally had a chance to try this place today. The line to order was soooo long, but I decided to wait anyways. I was finally able to order about 30 minutes later and then had to wait another 10 minutes for the order to be ready. The burger wasn't as small as some of the other reviews mentioned. It was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was as good as Five Guys, but it was still good. The $3 fries were ok and a little small. Given the cheap price and location, I'll definitely try this place again. Like I said, the burgers were good, but I don't think it was worth the wait on line, so next time I'll try to go there sometimes other than lunch hour. I've been here in the past, but this is my first full service meal here (burgers and frites together). I came here for lunch around 11:50am on a weekday and there was already a small group of people waiting. I thought I had beat the lunch crowd, but I was wrong. I love the ordering system here where you grab a marker and menu card and mark off what you want. Excellent thinking and very efficient. In addition, they offer a loyalty card where if you come here more than 10 times for a burger you get 1 free! Another big plus! On my first try, I had forgotten to put my name on my card, but the guy nicely asked what my name was and wrote it in for me telling me "No worries". Very good burger. 8.75/10, which is extremely high in my book. First.. the fries are incredible. Pillowy soft in the inside, extra crunch exterior, slim and long pieces of goodness. My order came out fresh as can be so the fries were next level good. I had the regular grass fed burger with all the free toppings and goat cheese - medium rare. Burger temp was spot on and there was an excellent char flavor with some good smoke in it, for what I think is just a regular grill top that they use to cook in the truck. The goat cheese was a great choice (if you like goat cheese) and it added an extra layer of creamy complexity in between the meat and the brioche bun. Highly recommend this place. So I applaud Frites'N'Meats (btw, I LOVE the name) and their endeavor to "save the world one burger at a time". First, because they're new to the scene, the line/wait is about 30 to 45 plus the time to order and grill. It's a long wait but for something so fresh to the scene, I thought it was worth the wait. The service was impeccable, the smell of the grilling burgers were very nice, and honestly, you're also supporting a small business. Which I approve greatly! And although the fryer was out of order (no Belgian fries and sassy sauces!!!), what should have mattered was that this place really does what it offers...burgers. I ordered the grass-fed angus ($5.50) on brioche with some blue cheese, tomato, musclum greens, savory onion jam, and applewood smoked bacon. Plus a Mash mango/blood orange soda. Working in the area, most places are very touristy and it bothers me. I like places that are more local and original than a bunch of franchises. Luckily, this truck is right by on Mondays from 11-3PM. But you should check out their site just in case there are any changes in their locations. So I came here on Monday. It was so darn cold. There were a couple of people in line ahead of me. So since it was my first time getting food from this truck, I was told to circle what I want on a plastic card. The card also need you to include your superhero name, which I thought was very witty and cute. So I circled what I want and wrote "Smiley" as my superhero name and gave the guy the card. I stood aside waiting for my burger and fries to cook. It was very frigidly cold. It was so cold my hands turned pink, but even on this very cold day there were many people buying lunch from this truck. Which means this should be good stuff. When my order was finally ready, the guy called out "Smiley!" And when I approached the truck he asked if I was Smiley and I said yes with a great big smile and he chuckled. But hey that's what I am known for, my smile. I took my paper bagged lunch and hurried back to the office, so my food won't get cold or maybe so I won't freeze. I opened the paper bag and laid everything out on my desk. The burger was pretty big. It was medium rare, just the way I like it. The burger was very juicy and tender. The juice from the burger drips down with each bite. I love brie and I never had it with a burger, but it was one of the option for cheeses. The melted brie oozes each time I chomped on the burger. This was the first food truck I tried at the Mex Fest Food Truck Event this past weekend. My boyfriend & I were hungry and this was one of the food trucks we saw first, so decided to give it a shot. Oh, trucks. Without twitter/blogs, how else would you find them? Maybe they should carry a gps on them, since there are times when I go searchin', and they decide to go home/don't update their page (trucks in general). I like it when they're at Trader Joe's in Union Square better, but I wanted some burgers so I made the trip on over here. They're right in front of Whole Foods (guess they target these types of grocery stores). It's always nice to feel included when you're ordering, so there's a stack of menus and sharpies where you can circle what you want. You choose the bun, patty, toppings, cheese is an extra 75 cents, and other special toppings that don't include your basic ketchup and mustard are for an additional charge as well. The simplest and cheapest burger comes out to $5.50. Now, that's around Shake Shack pricing and though it is bigger, it's not as flavorful (is it because it's grass fed?) Yes that's "healthier" but in the end, a burger's a burger....for the most part. There's still grease, though, so yum to that. I wish they reused those cards you write on, but they don't. The truck was happily parked in front of my office building, so I got in line, filled out their laminated menu card and patiently awaited my burger. I ordered the burger of the week -- a Southwest Fusion Burger -- with the Belgian Frites. The Southwest Fusion Burger included "spicy" guacamole (not terribly spicy), jack cheese, sweet chili sauce and bacon. All of the ingredients were spot on and of what seems to be the highest quality. I couldn't get enough of this burger and if common sense didn't kick in, I would have gone back for seconds. Really! I still have the scent of this burger all over my hands as I type this . . . yum! The spicy fries (they're shoestring, not typical steak fries) are ok - but I come for the meat. Other reviews say this can be a little heavy/fatty - even a touch greasy, as someone else said, and they're right, at least if you get the kobe. But that or the steak are my favorites, and for the money, you get a lot of food. Think of a good, tasty, buttery burger from a gastropub or bistro. The only way I could love these sandwiches more is if they were grilled. Personally I find this is the sort of food that'll put me into a coma at work, so I take this home for dinner so I can unbuckle my pants and enjoy the burgery goodness without side-eye. If you're craving a solid burger/steak sandwich, try this truck. I will say this - it's a little pricey. I cant remember the last time I had burger this good - to me, a good burger is not only tender and flavorful, but deliciously moist and juicy, and these guys nailed it! The grass fed burger was perfectly cooked (pink in the middle), and they dont cheap out on dressing it out - even the pickles were crisp and delicious. I've lived nearby for years and never tried them, but decided to on a whim when riding by their truck on my bike. Got the regular angus burger with all the free fixings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, sauce) + $1 cheddar and the twice fried french fries. Delicious and big portions, huge meal for $12 ($7.50 burger (6oz patty) + $3.50 fries). First off, I wish this was an actual resturant that was always in my neighborhood. I got the special, "The Southwest Fusion". It was absolutely amazing. There was nothing I didn't enjoy about that burger. It was like being at a private concert headlined by John Lennon, Kurt Cobain and Chris Farley... But in burger form. I'm usually a little leary of burgers that have a ton of toppings on it, but everything really worked well together on the burger. The sweet chili sauce was the first thing to greet you upon taking a bite and then really complimented the hearty meat flavors of the burger and bacon. The guac then stood in a really pleasant contrast to all of the sharp flavors of the rest of the burger. Well done. My wife got an angus burger on a brioche bun with goat cheese, lettuce and tomoato. She is a huge fan of goat cheese and they didn't skimp. There was plenty to go around. The bun was soft and chewy. She loved it. The fries were amazing, almost my favorite part of the meal! My wife lived in France and knows how good fries should taste. She said they were some of the best she had had. We got two aiolis, the garlic and the sun-dried tomato ones. They were both fantastic. The garlic one was very stong while the sun-dried tomato was more subtle. One word of warning: The burgers were very rare. Like still mooing. We were all about that, but not everyone may be. We are most definitly going to make a return trip to this truck. It is now our favorite food truck in the city. read more

After dodging this truck several times because of the scary long times, I finally hit it at the right time and decided I had no reason not to give it a go... plus I was really craving a burger! I was happy to see that regardless of lines, they seem to crank out your food pretty fast. I only waited a few minutes. It looked to me like you can choose from pre selected burger combinations or customize your own, which seems to be what most people do here. It's part of the fun! I stuck with the standard Grass Fed Angus Burger, on a Brioche bun and added Gruyere, savory onion jam, greens, a slice of tomato and mayo. It was divine. Everything tasted fresh, delicious and of good quality. They've got a lot of wonderful add-ons and flavors to really take your burger to the next level. I held off on fries. They seemed pretty ordinary and didn't look like true Belgian Frites as advertised, but I did love the sounds of all the dipping sauces they offer. I should really try em' before knockin' em. The best part was the dum dum lollipop they throw in the bag for after. That was a nice touch. I'll definitely keep this truck in my lunch rotation on days when I want to indulge. read more

SETTING: First day of work BOSS: Do you want anything from Frites 'n' Meats? ME: There's a place nearby called Frites 'n' Meats? *stumbles into desk* Must try ASAP. BOSS: Umm.. You're weird. So.. I was clearly enamored - because it really is an awesome name. We rolled up to the truck in our... well.. shoes - because you don't really drive in NYC. I can say this - their ordering process is as brilliant as their name. Considering they're a street truck, there's no way that you can really claim that they've misheard you if there's paper evidence. There's little slips of paper so that you can circle your choice of: BURGER - grass fed angus, wagyu "american kobe" BUN - brioche, potato-onion, sesame seed CHEESE - gruyere, goat, brie, cheddar, blue TOPPINGS - raw onion, tomato mesclun greens, savory onion jam, garlicky guacamole, applewood smoked bacon, oven roasted tomato HANDCUT DOUBLE FRIED BELGIAN FRIES DIPS - ketchup, mayo, mustard, garlic aioli, spicy chili aioli, blue cheese, sundried tomato aioli, horseradish aioli DRINKS - water, 12oz sodas, Mash 20oz drinks We got back to the office, burgers and fries in tow. Yes - I was that idiot stinking up the office with the smell of yum, but my boss and two others had done the same, so I was theoretically off the hook, right? My hopes were a bit dashed when I bit into my burger. It was good, but not amazing. The cheese (brie this time) was probably the best part about the flavors co-mingling in my mouth. The fries were crunchy munchy, but were elevated ten-fold by the horseradish aioli dip. Service was so-so. They were nice and all, but my boss ordered her burger sans bread/bun because she can't have gluten; we were very clear with the guy that it could kill her. When we got back to the office, her burger was tainted (had a bun), so she couldn't eat it! :( I might hit them up another time, but I'm in no rush for the time being. They do deliver now, so maybe when I'm feeling lazy this winter, I'll order up a delivery. read more

I've recently discovered a passion for french fries - for a while, I was obsessed with tacos, now its french fries... so when I discovered Frites n Meats on the corner of my work, I was super psyched to try their American Wagyu Beef Burger and their fries OMG. The burger was Wagyu topped with gruere cheese, raw onions, tomato, greens, and onion jam, along with ketchup, mayo and mustard - yeh i love to take to the extreme... and man was it good. I mean - in comparison to the LCB Burger Truck - those burgers are better... but Frites n Meats wins with its condiments. The fries were perfect, and they have a number of dippings.. I love the Garlic Aoili and my coworkers are obsessed with the Horseradish. You can get a stamp for everytime you go, and I think the 10th is free.. join their email listserv, and you get a chance to win a free burger. First and foremost, Frites 'n' Meats' choice of mascot begs the following questions: 1) Why the decision to assign a Gaston-from-Beauty-and-the-Beast-look-alike cartoon bull in a Superman suit to advertise burgers sold out the back of a food truck? 2) Is this bull aware of the implication being made here? Does he realize standing proudly on a giant burger in tights and a cape is not unlike me dancing on a funeral pyre of my fallen brothers' char-grilled corpses? 3) Am I really spending this much time and effort analyzing a cartoon bull and comparing it to cannibalism, Disney villains, and/or possibly inter-species genocide? I can only answer "yes" on that last one, but, in my defense, I waited a good forty-five minutes for burgers and fries here, so I had a lot of time to stare and think about this one. I ordered the Burger of the Week because I'm a sucker for a special. Affectionately named "The Italian Job", this burger consisted of a seasoned grass-fed Angus patty, mozzarella, parmesan, and gorgonzola spread, applewood-smoked thick-cut bacon, salsa verde and your choice of bun (I went with the potato-onion). But as is the case with most things that sound as amazing as this combo did, the idea of it all proved too good to be true. Don't get me wrong - this is a good burger. In fact, it's easily the best I've had from a truck. But I've had much, much better sitting down at a restaurant. There was just too much goin' on here, leaving me unable to properly pick apart and analyze the patty vs. the bun vs. the toppings because they were all at war with one another for the starring role. I don't want power-struggle burgers. I want peaceful, harmonious burgers. The frites were tasty, and apparently, according to their menu, "hand-cut", "double-fried", and "Belgian". I don't how much of all of that I got from these guys. To me, they tasted just like fries and that was good enough in my book. I didn't get to try the garlic aioli sauce I ordered, because, well, it wasn't in my bag. I've lost more than fifty cents before, so this isn't that big of a deal. Unless the garlic aioli sauce is amazing because then, you're damn right, it's a big deal. Still, it's awesome that they offer a phone number to pre-order, knowing full well the large crowd they typically attract. It's not that awesome that they weren't taking any more orders about a half-hour into their shift when I tried calling. But once you see the line, I mean, you certainly understand. There's a reason Frites 'n' Meats is this popular and I want to believe that reason isn't simply their attractive marketing campaign. I want to believe waiting for forty-five minutes outside of a food truck was worth it. Frites 'n' Meats is like a big, shiny billboard with some hot supermodel plastered all over it. Or maybe a big-budget summer blockbuster even. They look all slick and sexy on the surface, but neither truly exist because they are either air-brushed or chock full of special effects. Kind of like the world's most famous robot, Beyonce. And in the same respect, this truck does a hell of a job promoting what turns out to be nothing more than something standard (in this case, standard lunch fare), with their cool menu cards that ask for your superhero name, faux-newspaper frites bags, complimentary Dum-Dum lollipops, and yes, even a mascot. It may be petty and even misleading to a point, but these little things can go a long way, because, truthfully, it's just a food truck. And standard lunch fare is really all I ever expect from a food truck in the first place. read more

I can see the smoke clouding my view a mile away as i walk to work and smell the grilling of burgers. Ah, it must be Wednesdays for me as Frites 'n' Meats food truck is parked near my work. The first thing I notice on their truck, "Saving the world One burger at a time." This must be an expensive world because their burgers don't come cheap! But then again, we are in New York.... Quickly filling out what I want on a erasable menu (which is cool), I circle the type of burger that I want, along with the condiments. I soon realize that things add up the more toppings I add. My $5- 7 dollar burger starts becoming $8-9 for some stuff that I think should be standard, such as cheese. I tried their wagyu "american" kobe. I've been to Kobe and had Kobe beef so obviously, I'm already biased before I tasted a bite. But, I love how they added a not-so subtle disclaimer but calling it "American" kobe, which basically is warning you that this is NOT traditional Kobe beef. And you should know, at $7.50, there's no way this is real kobe. The burger was good though; juicy and tender. But, most burgers are juicy and tender. I still couldn't have distinguished where the "kobe" part came in. As a stand-alone burger, this was good and probably better than some diners I've been to. But as a "Kobe" burger, something is missing. Maybe all that pondering is well worth the extra few dollars? I don't think so. I might just stick to their grass fed angus burger and save myself 2 bucks. With those 2 bucks, I will rather use it for an extra side of oven roasted tomato, apple wood smoked bacon, and Gruyere cheese. Now I want Kobe beef. But I will skip the "American" part of it, thank you very much. read more

Burger and fries truck that plans to park on Greenwich and Chambers every day, then move to the MPD at night. Today was the 1st or 2nd day and they are still working out the kinks - line of maybe 25 people took 50 minutes, and their french fryer broke. The Good: -The menu has potential: choice of angus or wagyu beef; choice of bun; premium toppings like onion jam, oven roasted tomato, applewood bacon, goat cheese, etc.; aiolis for the frites -Burger was a nice pink, not overcooked -Good size The Not so Good: -Burger was too smoky, too charred -Balthazar Bakery sesame seed bun was too pillow-y and dry for me -They need to double or triple their grill staff - line was absolutely crawling -Seasoning was too light So an initial 3 stars with the potential to move up if they improve, or come down if they don't address the shortcomings. Given how early it is, I'm banking on them improving - the menu has too much promise and there is too much need for interesting lunch options in lower Tribeca. read more
