This was not a good experience. The menu doesn't describe how big the burgers are so how do you know if you want a double or single? I asked the cashier if I could have my fries extra crispy and she said they could not but they were fried until crispy anyways. The place is hella loud. There is not enough seating so people were wondering around the small space like zombies until the seated people would leave. My burger was totally dead. No juice and crumbly as hell! Yuck! Went back today to try their burger again. Instead of their one patty version, I tried their regular version which has two patties. I liked it much better than just having one patty, and you can taste the meat more with crispy texture (smashed style). I didn't order the mushroom topping this time, but rather I got it with lettuce, tomato, raw onions, ketchup, mustard and pickles. I ordered a side of A-1 sauce. A-1 sauce was a good addition on the side. I could alternate plain and a little drop of A-1 sauce in each bite. The meat was just slightly under-season (cheese has salt), but overall it was a good brger and very satisfying. They cook their burgers in batches, so there is some delay from when the burgers come off the griddle, assembled, wrapped in foil, goes in to the brown bag and you get your number called. They do this for all orders whether you eat it there or not. I wish there was an option to not have it wrapped and get it to me quicker, as the crispy crust on the meat gets slightly softer as the time lapse. read more

This isn't for the entire staff but from my experience and cashier that served us was not helpful! It was my first time here and we didn't know how to order and he was giving us attitude when we weren't sure about our order. We also requested it for to-go and he responded "it's always to-go" like we were suppose to already know that. I would give him the benefit of the doubt but you should always have a positive attitude especially when we didn't do anything to him. I first had Five Guys in San Diego and it was delicious there. I'm not sure what went wrong with this location in Alameda - maybe they're still working out the kinks since it just opened? In any case, In N Out has nothing on this place. The fries were SOGGY even when I ate them at the restaurant within a minute of receiving them, and the hamburger bun was soggy and patty McDonald's quality. I am very disappointed - what a waste of calories when I could have had In N Out! The only saving grace is the fact that you can add all types of toppings here, I.e. mushrooms, steak sauce, etc. Not sure what good that does when the hamburger itself sucks. :( read more

I think I've reviewed 5 Guys before, but I can't remember, so here we go. Their fries are good (Cajun are better), their burgers are satisfying, and their peanuts are plentiful. I can't help but compare them to In-N-Out. So here's the analysis: Fries: Not even close... way better, even without the Cajun seasoning. Burger: Not as good as the Double-Double. BUT way more opportunities for customization, so could outscore its competition if you're in the mood for say, a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with Jalapenos and Grilled Onions? Seating: Pretty close. The one star is for how unorganized the staff is and how the girl spilled my bag of fries and just gave me whatever was left in the bag. Firstly everyone behind the counter were running around like their heads were cut off. They were messing up orders; forgetting burgers, giving wrong burgers to be wrong people, etc. I don't think there were any supervisors or managers working at the time, if so they weren't managing the staff well at all. Fortunately for me I only ordered a large side of fries so I didn't have to deal with the frustration of my order being fouled up, so I thought. I thought by ordering only fries that my number would be called faster. Apparently that wasn't the case as I had to wait nearly 10 min just to get fries. As my order is being grabbed by one of the staff she spills part of my fries onto the counter. She doesn't bother to add more fries nor does she say anything but rather gives me a dumb stare like I didn't just see that. First time ever eating a Five Guys yesterday (9/22)... and it wasn't a good one. Firstly, SO loud inside. Don't go here if you want a relaxing lunch. It's chaotic, hectic, packed, and the music is turned up. Stressful just waiting and trying hear the order numbers called. I got regular fries, and the bf got "Cajun" style. Firstly, both were totally mush. Maybe this is their style of fries? I dunno, I didn't like it. I'm all for thick fries, but not when they are totally limp and soggy. The "Cajun" style is just the normal fries with Lawry's Seasoned Salt on on them... which I found just plain silly. I got a regular cheeseburger with ketchup only. He got a bacon cheeseburger with everything. The cheese on my burger was not melted... his was mostly melted, but not all of it. The meat was pretty fair, no complaints there. But with the unmelted cheese and soggy fries, I ended up leaving half my meal unfinished before I was full... for no other reason than it just wasn't good and I didn't feel like eating it any more. Bleh. Cashier was friendly. That and the acceptable patties garner maybe 1.5 stars, plus a little benefit-of-the-doubt for the place being new. But I still don't think I'll bother going back, there's better burger places on the island, so I'll be going elsewhere rather risking another waste of time here. p.s. This was my 1st experience with Five Guys Burgers and I'm sorry to say that it was a disaster. I ordered one hamburger, one bacon cheeseburger, 1 regular fries and 1 Cajun fries. The burgers were barely edible. The meat was crumbling as we tried to bite into our burgers. My bacon burger was so bitter because the bacon was burnt leaving this horrible taste all over even after I tried to take all the bacon off. Next we head to our fries in hopes of redemption. They were the worst fries I've ever eaten. They were soggy with oil and half cooked. The price was a little over $20. All of which was wasted money since we could not eat any of it. Excellent burgers here. I'm not a thick fry kind of guy. Love the pick your own condiments. Seemed less expensive than the much late and lamented Pearl's. They also seem to have a lot more people working behind the counter than Pearl's. Service seemed fine. Free peanuts for starters is always a good idea. And this Five Guys also has caffene free diet Coke. Shopping mall parking, but the lot right in front isn't so big, so you actually might have to walk a bit to get to Five Guys. This time the burger was not soggy, much more flavorful and although the bacon was overdone, it actually had bacon flavor. Fries were also better, plenty tasty. Looks like I'll give the place more of a chance. I was expecting better. I just went in for the first time today on a Saturday, it was packed and took 15 minutes order. The food took 15 minutes to be made after that, and when I got it, I wasn't impressed. I had a bacon cheeseburger, and the bacon was hard to find and flavorless and the burger itself was soggy and not particularly interesting. I got all the basic toppings and it made for a burger that fell apart almost immediately. The fries were also soggy although plentiful. I decided to give these folks some love instead of the usual off the grid food truck madness--everything over there was mostly well vetted food truck veterans but just not doing it for me that day. I figured it was about time to check these fellas out. Clearly a smallish national franchise, you were gonna get your classic burger on. I ordered a cheeseburger--cheese in this case is the usual slice of american. Little did I realize that the left side of the board with very reasonably priced burgers were actually double burgers. Holy bejesus, these bad boys are stacked high. You'd have to unhinge your jaw in order to take a whole bite of the burger. I had them put everything in it, and as a result, my burger slid all over the place--next time I'd eat it partially unwrapped rather than loose from it's packaging. Also, I'd actually get the smaller burger too-come on, unless you didn't eat breakfast, and had been working out hard that day, what adult has any business eating a 800+ calorie burger plus whatever else you get! The cajun fries were so yummy, I actually took the remainder home to remake them into a tortilla espanola for breakfast the next day. Also, don't underestimate this place. I got a large fries to share--they overstuff the cup they show you, and they always have a huge extra portion in the brown bag at the bottom. Next time, I'd get a medium--but only because the cajun spice blend was such a great match up. If I were just wanting regular fries, I'd probably only get a small. The whole place was busy and chaotic when we came in. By the end of the meal the place had emptied out. I'm guessing it's always like that, waves of activity, so you're lucky if you get a bit of quiet. However, there are a lot of table & chair/bench spaces to eat at outside. I have been to quite a few Fiveguys burger joints in the past. This one, well it was decent fast service. The cashier was on the grumpy side of the spectrum of customer service. Possibly she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. The food came out good. Other employees were cheerful but just that one had a sour puss attitude. The restaurant was not quite clean. From what I overheard the customer ordered fries with no potatoes and she understood he meant fries with no salt but thought it'd be funny to laugh about with another customer. I've been here a few times, and despite some of the poor reviews, I actually like this place! I think that the regular cheeseburger is pretty good. I like how easy it is to customize your toppings here. I used to order my burger with grilled onions, mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato. The last time I came in, I ordered a cheeseburger with only lettuce and tomato. Sometimes, simple is best. That way you can really taste how flavorful the meat is. I'm going to have to minus a star for their fries, I thought they were just ok (I've had both the regular and cajun). However, I think it depends on your preference. I prefer super thin and crispy french fries, as opposed to the thick cut fries that they serve here. Overall, I really haven't had any problems with this place.
