This location is pretty good. The attendant working the cash register was very sweet and knowledgeable. Ordering went very fast. The waiting can take a while though. From when I put my order in to when I received it was about 15 minutes. I did come at a time where it was a bit busy but it wasn't what I would call slammed. The quality of the burgers is excellent though! Even though they do not have a drive-through which is such a letdown for me, I will go up of my way to get a bacon cheeseburger and some Cajun fries from here! Ambience is a bit loud so I would not suggest working in here on your laptop or trying to read a book. Beware!! I was buying a gift card here and PEDRO Z charged an unauthorized tip. It was only 50 cents however I was charged no such thing when I purchased a gift card from the San leandro location. Holy moly, what is the deal with these fries? We made the mistake of getting a large. Took the bag right to our table and they were already soggy. Maybe the oil was too cool or they pulled them too soon, but the place was pretty quiet. All but a few ended up in the compost bin. My hamburger was good - proper smash burger with the lacy edges. Stopped in to try their new Patty Melt burger on the menu ($9.99). Got mine with "All the way" toppings and added a side of small fries. "All the way" toppings includes mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomato, ketchup, mustard, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. Also, got a couple scoops of their free peanuts (located inside, across the order counter, next to entrance) to snack on for later. I enjoyed the patty melt and think I prefer this to their regular hamburger/cheeseburger. Today is May 28th, and it's National Hamburger Day! To celebrate, I ordered a Cheeseburger and Regular Fries at Five Guys in Alameda. The Five Guys Cheeseburger is no lightweight. It's actually two patties of meat, so it's like a 1/2-lb double cheeseburger. Then they offer unlimited free toppings, so you can dress it up the way you like it. I topped mine with 9 toppings. OMG, those patties were cooked just right. The meat was juicy and savory. But I thought the bun wasn't quite strong enough to handle two meat patties and all those condiments and toppings. As I got thru half the cheeseburger, the bun seemed to start coming apart. Oh well, eat it faster! The regular-size fries were great and worth the price. They're fresh cut and twice fried. They serve it in a paper cup, and then it seems they added more to my bag. Five Guys is easily one of my favorite places to get a burger! This is one of those places that I really wanted to like, but ended up really a disappointment. I happen to like my burgers rare to medium rare . I was informed at the time they only cook the patties medium well. In all my years of eating burgers, I've learned that when an establishment only cooks them medium well to well done, they don't have a lot of confidence in their meat. I would have to use my fingers and toes to count how many times I've been to a Five Guys burger joint in different locations and states. Surprisingly, this is my first review. Every location I have visited has been bright, clean, and welcoming, with friendly customer service. I always order the little burger all the way without mushrooms and add extra onions. Their fresh fries are crispy and seasoned to my liking, and I appreciate the option to request light salt. Once, I even tried the salted caramel bacon milkshake, which was surprisingly delicious. Additionally, the bathrooms are always clean, and I appreciate their soda machine. While it may be pricier than other burger joints, the freshness of the fries and non-frozen burgers eases my mind. The setup is a bit odd but doable--you park in front where it feels illegal and maybe only 3 cars can be there at a time for curbside pickup (for other establishments too). My order was ready in 10 minutes and here's what I had: CHEEESEBUGER - $8.99 Although this was not my first time having Five Guys, this was my first time ordering. What I did not know was that the base burger doesn't come with anything except cheese and 2 beef patties. You have to manually select the different toppings (condiments, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.). It's okay it was still a pretty solid hefty burger. I just had to add everything else at home. Oh and this hefty burger definitely enough for 2 servings. I came in to order a double cheeseburger with bacon. A $14-$15 burger alone. The manager was taking my order and well I asked him the size of the burger patties ( how many Ozs ). This man told me they are as big as the bun.... The hell? Then I specified, how many ozs are the patties and this man looked straight up looked me in my face and said "I don't know"! I did it. I finally took a trip over to the dark side. This In-N-Out Burger addict finally tried Five Guys... and it was actually pretty good (GASP!). I know, right?! It was good but not GREAT. However, the food quality actually surpassed my expectations. I was hanging out in Alameda and caught a craving for a burger. Now, usually I'd just drive down to the In-N-Out on Willie Stargell, but I was on the other side of the island and didn't feel like driving over and waiting in line. Kind of shocking because I do this religiously almost weekly. Hey... don't judge me! I noticed that Five Guys was close by and just said the hell with it. I actually have tried Five Guys in the past, but it's been so long that I honestly don't remember too much about it. What I do remember is that it wasn't the greatest experience, hence why it's taken me so long to come back. When I walked in, the place wasn't very busy but it seemed like most of the staff were preparing orders. I came to the register and one of the associates came up to assist me. What's different here is that you basically have to order everything separately. No combo meals or multi item order discounts here. I ended up ordering a cheeseburger, little fries, and a regular soft drink. The prices here seem way higher compared to other fast casual burger chains. It costed me $17 for this meal with no frills. $17! Maybe I'm cheap, but that's expensive bro! I could order two double double meals from In-N-Out at that price... just saying. I like that you can see them preparing everything in their open kitchen. You can watch them making your food and you can have some peanuts while you wait. They have a large bin of shelled peanuts that you can help yourself to while you wait. Similar to Texas Roadhouse, you can crack the shells and throw 'em on the floor (they're probably not doing this right now due to COVID-19 though). They delivered my food when it was ready and I couldn't believe my eyes. That burger was GIGANTIC! Mutha effin' HUUUGE! And they gave me HELLA fries! This combo was enough for two people to split easily. The burger was super messy but um... I LOVES me a messy ass burger! Well, as long it's good. The burger patty was so juicy and flavorful! The veggies didn't taste the freshest but they did the deed. One nitpick with the burger was that the bun got soggy super fast. Aside from that, I was feeling the burger. The fries weren't anything extraordinary. Although they provided a bunch of fries, they were way too greasy. They were so greasy that the oil started dripping from the bag and eventually ended up one of my favorite pairs of pants. I still can't get that damn grease stain out. Yeah, wasn't too happy about that. Another thing to note is that they make their fries soft. If you're a fan of crispy fries like In-N-Out's or McDonald's, you might not like these ones. As far as the interior goes, it was extremely dirty when I dined in there. I mean, like REALLY dirty. I can somewhat understand the peanut shells on the floor, but all of the dirty napkins, dropped ketchup, and leftover food everywhere was not at all appealing. On top of this, the staff was slanging profanities left and rigght while there were children and other people present. I'm not a saint... I mean, I cuss sometimes too. But to be cussing up a storm while there are people eating in the lobby is just not professional no matter where it is. If it's loud enough for me to hear you back there, just lower your voices a bit. Overall, I'd rate this place as average all around based on this experience alone. Not sure if it's worth the $17 price tag, but I'm happy that I finally gave them another chance because the burger was good. read more

My life for the past few months has been reduced to salads and anything low carb. With the exception for a cheat day on a Friday or Saturday. That being said it's been a while since I've been to this Five Guys location in Alameda. I recently read online that Five Guys doesn't have a secret menu per say like In-N-Out but they can custom make your burger to your liking. Based on that information and speaking with the Five Guys employee, I ordered a Grilled Cheese triple patty bacon burger along with fries and a soda. What can I say but that this burger combo is the best cheat day food possible. Accompanied by Five Guys generous amount of fries they give, it really hit the spot. Believe it or not, so much so, that it's one of the top burgers around. These burgers are legit, and places like the aforementioned In-N-Out pale in comparison. I have seen the light and no longer wish to remain in burger darkness. The service was friendly and helpful. Unlimited peanuts for consumption prior to receiving my meal. When cheat day comes each week, Five Guys will be close to the top of my list. read more

My review mainly reflects online ordering, since that's mainly the experience I've had. The burgers are fine and the fries are good, but the service just keeps getting worse. I think it's more because of the disorganized system they use, not the employees. The problem I've had with online ordering is that they don't have it ready when you get there because they don't add the fries beforehand. It's nice to get fresh fries, but more and more the fry station has gotten backed up when I get there and I end up waiting 5 or 10 minutes to get a pick up order. A lot of times I could have been served just as fast if I didn't order ahead. The last time I went was the final straw. The person person dealing with online orders wasn't paying attention and didn't see my name on my order. Then I couldn't get his attention because apparently he already "helped" me. And they JUST raised their prices. There's also no combos, or discounts with multiple items. Everything is simply individually priced at a very high premium. Even a small soda (which literally costs the business just pennies) runs somewhere in the high $2 range or something.
