King of Philly

2671 Blanding Ave Ste C Alameda, CA 94501 (Bridgeside Shopping Center) Well, almost 3 yrs ago I gave this place 5-stars. Since then, I have visited several sandwich shops. I still like The Cheese Steak Shop over Jersey Mike's. On a rainy Friday evening, I ordered the Classic Philly. The man behind the counter asked "With peppers?" I said YES! Make it like that picture! Well, times have changed. My large Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich cost slightly over $13. It's alot smaller and lighter. But still packs a punch in flavor! It's not that heavy sandwich anymore. But you still beat the competition! You will find this sandwich shop in the shopping center that's next to the Fruitvale Bridge in Alameda.

Food here is good. Service is OK ambience depending on the sport that it's playing for the day.

Im surprised this place has negative reviews. Ive been coming here for years, and while the price has gone up significantly (almost $20 for a combo now) the quality is superb. The bread is unlike anywhere else, and everything is cooked to perfection. Dont forget to get it with peppers and everything.

A crappy overpriced cheesesteak!!!

So I just ordered a king of philly and a regular onion rings. $20!!! And i got water So if i wanted a drink it would be about $23-$24 And they ask for a tip on the computer screen So if i tip the "American Way" 20% that's another $2.50 So my lunch is $26-$27 Are you kidding me!!! Seriously Are you really asking for a tip for the guy running the register or the cook? Normally tips are for "service" I didn't get served I had to get my own water and meal when it was ready A tip jar is fine Don't ask on the register for tips!!! Ridiculous!

It's March 15th, 2020. I know I'm supposed to avoid human contact to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) but the last two days, I really am avoiding human contact because NO ONE was in the restaurant yesterday and no one was in the The Cheesesteak Shop today. Except the nice young ladies making my King of Philly cheesesteak of course. That being said, my sandwiches were ready as soon as I walked through the door after ordering prior to arriving. How was the King of Philly cheesesteak? It was great. I really have no complaints about this sandwich. It has a nice amount of cheese melted in steak. I ordered it with onions and hot peppers. If I have one complaint, it's that they leave the stem on all the peppers they use, so it has to be plucked out of the sandwich. The location in Blanding Shopping hub is convenient, because there is always parking, especially during this pandemic crisis. Nothing to ease my anxiety like a Philly cheesesteak.

Best cheesesteak I ever had !

This is a to go review I placed the order on Tuesday afternoon and it was ready within 10 minutes. When I got there, there wasn't a line and I was helped and got my order immediately. The pick up process was fast and efficient. I got home and opened my chicken hoagie and it was very soggy. There were juices on the bag itself too. I had to rip open the bag to place the sandwich on top to contain the sauce that was leaking out. The curly fries were okay as it was still slightly crispy. This should be eaten at the restaurant and not ordered to go to ensure the sandwich doesn't get soggy. The sandwich was decent though. I probably would not order in advance or do a pick up though.

Date: 7/31/2018 Time: 2:00 PM 67° Partly sunny Since I could not get lunch from Poki Lab and I wasn't feeling Starbucks, I decided to give The Cheese Steak Shop a try for the first time. I am aware that this is one of those chain fast food places with locations in Berkeley, Oakland and other cities in the Bay Area. One of the employees was kind to hand me a menu, so I could decide what type of sandwich I wanted to order. After perusing the menu, I ordered Motown Philly, a cheese steak with beef, cheese, mushrooms and grilled onion, and a side order of curly fries. Specialties: Cheese steaks sandwiches, vegetarian sandwiches, salads, choice of sides (steak fries, Philly cheese fries, curly fries, cheese steak chips, sweet potato fries, onion rings, chicken strips) and cold beverages. They also have a kids' menu available for ages 12 and under. Seating capacity: about 20 people. Ambiance: casual and comfortable. I like the sports banners on the wall (Warriors, Raiders, A's). I had to chuckle when the older woman/cashier greeted me and said "I haven't seen you for a while." I replied that it was my first time there. (She mistaken me for somebody else.) She was helpful but somewhat stoic. The service was okay. My Motown Philly was good. I shared it (half order sandwich) with my husband. He added hot sauce to enhance the sandwich to his liking. The curly fries were just okay. Taking into consideration the food and the service, I am giving this place a 3 star rating. Future visits will be a deciding factor whether or not to give them a 4 star rating. Time alone will tell.

Nothing was overpowering, and everything tasted clean and well-made. What really stood out to me was how fresh everything tasted. It didn't feel like a rushed sandwich--it felt like it was made with care. If you're looking for a solid Italian sub with fresh bread and high-quality meat, Brothers Deli is definitely the spot. I really shouldn't single them out because I've noticed that a lot of the east bay delis have the same type of bread, but I will say that it just wasn't my taste. The rolls (I got the Dutch Crunch, sourdough roll, and the soft roll) were not that great and --like I said-- maybe it's the same vendors everyone uses in the east bay. For the cost, I'm not too enthused to try the other options. Every time I passed by their spot, it's busy, so I figured I'd try it. It's just not for me, but people seem to like it. ‍

However, don't let that stop you from trying the location. I shared a Banh mi with a friend. I think I enjoyed it more than she did. It was spicy. The first time I went with my toddler and I was in a wheelchair after ankle surgery. We ordered food, the cashier said I would get a text, and we picked a table. 49 minutes later I wheeled up and asked if our grilled cheese, popcorn chicken, and tater tots would be ready soon. The cashier was on his phone and said "did you even check your messages? That order's been ready for a while now." I look inside and it's been shoved to the side. A nice lady handed me the tray and the grilled cheese is cold. I told the cashier and he just shrugged. Then I'm in the wheelchair with the tray on my lap, but I can't wheel and carry a tray. I asked the cashier for help. Since I'm interrupting him from his cell phone again, he makes a big deal of sighing then asking the lady inside to help me. The chicken was mostly breading. Fries didn't seem salted. I gave the cold grilled cheese to my dogs when I got home. Every time we have gone since then, there are a ton of kids running around. But there isn't a kids menu. I don't want to buy a 5-year-old crummy chicken or an overpriced burger. Now we leave and grab sushi then come back. The vast majority of my friends are disappointed in Southie as well. Park Station, please get a better food partner!

The staff was cordial and friendly, and the chicken-themed decor, charming. Now it IS a chicken joint, the go-to chicken spot for my full carnivore friend. He loves them for their chicken, their inexpensive menu and their large portions. I'm mostly pescatarian, though I do sometimes cheat with bacon. (I always feel SO guilty afterwards too!) I ordered the honey mustard salad with bacon and no chicken. My friend ordered the chicken Mac n cheese and tater tots. The bill came up to $30, and the portions were good on on the salad, GREAT on the tater tots and decent on the chicken mac. I can't speak personally on the chicken but my friend says it's amazing. I tasted some of his Mac n cheese with no chicken, and it was really good and flavorful, nice and cheesy. I tasted his tater tots. They were plentiful, well-seasoned and fried to golden perfection, with a nice crunch. I ate all of my salad. Our server apologetically just handed us the food that another pair had inspected and returned (they said they didn't touch it). No napkins, fries, or ketchup for the fries. I went to the counter and asked for napkins and fries and politely asked about our fries. They apologized and said it would come right out. My sandwich bread turned out to be fairly burned, and it tasted burned. Towards the end of finishing our sandwiches (about 20 minutes after I ordered and 10 minutes after I asked about the fries), I asked if my fries could be to-go. The friendly server was again apologetic and said they would check on it. A minute later they came out with a box of fries and apologized they they had been forgotten about in the kitchen. They were no longer hot. I was disappointed with my most recent trip.
