I have never ever been inside a Five Below - and for the longest time I thought it was a winter store. It's like a dollar store but everything is $5 below. This was on the second floor right before we got to our theater so we stopped into get some water and snacks. I was impressed with how clean it was for a discount store - and the M&Ms were $1.50 - and they have fun new candies like starburst gummies and hi-chews. The staff wasn't very fast, but they're young. We waited in line for a bit but it was quite clean and well kept. Recommend if you're staying at The Westin for convenience store vibes - prices are certainly cheaper than others and worked out perfectly for our movie experience. The entrance is a bit annoying - you can't walk in where you see the glass, you go around.

I walked into a store that is essentially one large room, and the density of product on display meant navigating it during a busy period required some patience, but the selection within that compact space was broader than the size suggested. The Korean literature section covers both Korean language and English language editions across a range of genres, which makes it genuinely useful for anyone studying the language or looking for titles that are difficult to find at general bookstores in the city. I saw children's books in Korean, well stocked. The K pop side of the store covers albums, photocards, posters, keychains, stickers, and merchandise across a wide range of artists, with BTS having a particularly strong presence historically alongside newer groups. Pricing runs higher than what I would pay ordering online or finding the same items at a larger retailer, which is the standard trade off for a specialty shop in Manhattan. Album prices in particular can be steep, though sale events bring them down to more competitive territory. Individual accessory items like stickers and bookmarks are priced at a premium relative to their size, so going in with a sense of what I am willing to spend helps avoid sticker shock at the register. The store is a reliable stop for anyone looking for Korean books or K pop merchandise in a physical retail setting in New York, with the caveat that the pricing and the crowd level are both factors worth knowing about before I go.

I walked into a space that covers a lot of ground, from snacks and drinks to beauty products, home goods, and collectibles, and the density of what is on display makes it easy to spend more time browsing than I planned. The snack selection is the strongest draw and covers an impressive range. I saw Asian versions of familiar American snacks sitting alongside Japanese and Korean originals, and the drink section downstairs is broad enough that finding something I have not tried before is a near certainty. The variety of drinks, many with anime or character branding, reflects a buying approach that goes beyond the standard convenience store selection. The beauty and skincare section upstairs is well stocked with Korean and Japanese brands that are not widely available at American drugstores. I browsed through everything from face wash to sheet masks and specialty treatments, and the prices are competitive for imported products of this type. Blind boxes occupy their own significant section, and the selection across different series is one of the better in the city, with reasonable pricing relative to what the same items cost at specialty toy stores. Home goods, toys, collectibles, and kawaii accessories fill the remaining floor space. For a one stop shop for Korean and Japanese lifestyle goods, snacks, and beauty products in Koreatown, TESO Life delivers a broad and browsable experience that rewards repeat visits.

Playing catch up here. So it was the first Saturday in May which to comic book geeks both far and…read morewide means "Free Comic Book Day" and oddly enough I was completely in the unaware about this comic store only a few hours earlier from my walking into the place. My learning about it was fortuitous as I had just left the famed Forbidden Planet and began talking to a nice family of fellow collectors about the packet of comic books that we had just received as a part of FCBD. We talked about where each of us were heading next and while I said Midtown Comics near Grand Central was my next stop they replied "Montasy Comics" was theirs. A quick Google search found the location and away I went. So the store is quite easy to get too but it might be something that you walk right past once you are in the vicinity since its not on the ground level and is instead upstairs. There is an elevator and stairs but I opted for the elevator. Once inside I immediately loved the layout of the place. There were numerous glass cases of collectible trading cards in the front where the staff usually is and while I am not one for those things they did seem to have an ample supply. Towards the end on opposing sides were racks and racks of new and recent comic books along with a myriad of collected editions and even scores of Funko Pops. If you collect the Pops, you're likely going to find a few that you like at Montasy Comics. The FCBD Stuff was being handed out by one of the staff in the rear of the shop and everything was already in bags to make this an easy free transaction. Sometimes, the free issues are all laid out for folks to pick and choose from but in this case it was not that way. I didn't go through anything and would save that reveal for a fun YouTube video but either way it felt like a decent amount of issues were in the bag and that is always nice to see. Generally with FCBD its nice to also try and make a purchase since while this event is free to customers the shops have to pay for all of the books. I was looking for a copy of "Sister Imperator" from Dark Horse Comics but they had no idea what I was talking about. It's an independent release about a Ghost band connected character but I digress. There was an upstairs but I didn't explore that and also they had a number of tables set up in the center of the store where they hold Magic and I guess Pokemon tournaments along with any other of the popular TCG (trading card games for the newbies). The visit was brief but overall a positive one. I will try to visit them again in the future if I am over there. I saw some complaints about high prices or lack of a refund on something that broke when the purchaser was putting it together and all I can say on that is when something becomes rare based on being limited or hard to get it will be more costly. As far as breakage during assembly, I've often found that it was due to improper practices by friends or even myself. A shop doesn't owe me restitution by my breaking something and that is how it goes. Happy Collecting my Friends

But that's okay, at least I didn't see anything like toys lying on the floor. No kids running around. Clean aisles + brightly lit area + decently spacious to walk around on your own. Surprised to see some Squishmallows peeking out in between other plushies. So, I was trying to reach for the ones from the top shelf. Staff from afar saw me struggling to reach but didn't offer any help + kept looking on and went back to chatting/joking with a coworker. This was around 9:30pm on a Sunday evening. I guess just a minor hiccup there, I will let it pass. Customers can find a limited yet decent selection of things like electronics, groceries, beauty and skincare/makeup, hygiene related products etc in each of their specific sections/aisles. The designs on greeting cards looked lovely. Some things were on sale like cat food - $10 for 12 cans. You just gotta stroll around to find out. It's convenient to have a Target in Midtown/next to the major train lines. Maybe I will stop by again, hopefully the service from employees will be better next time.
