Lot Less is my favorite store! It is my favorite store for affordable goods! I love coming here for light bites like chocolate and cookies! They got Hersheys, Lindt, Ferrero, and other Swiss brands that are expensive in other places. Nothing can beat Lot Less when it comes to affordability and practical goods useful for your home. They have almost everything you need from chargers, socks, undergarments, pajamas, household condiments, bath goods, curtains, bed sheets, coffee makers, bowls, pots and pans, and even pet products! This past weekend, I went here and noticed they carry these LABUBU dolls that were off brand dolls called La Bambino. I couldn't believe a lot of stores are carrying these knock offs. They were cute and the face looked almost similar to the real LABUBU. But who were they fooling because there were pieces of plastic on the face. I found that atrocious and just wondered if the manufacturer care to think to make them more appealing and presentable without the tape. I guess they forgot to remove the tape. I thought it was funny and cool to get one to play pranks on someone. They called the LABUBU knock offs LAFUFU so I got myself a brown and beige. They were still pretty pricey in my opinion for a fake one at $9.99! Oh wells. This is the 3rd location that is very close to my job. I cannot believe I have 3 Lot Less locations close by my job. If one Lot Less sells out on a certain product then I can go to the other location. What I like the most about this location is that it is stroller friendly so I don't need to worry about the stairs like the other 2 locations. Although this location is the smallest one. read more

Lot-less always has amazing deals!! I'm proud of myself for NOT buying anything. I was in the area, so I stopped by to window shop (and to be honest, I almost bought something but put it back). This location doesn't have furniture like the Rego park location, but it does have clothes, food, home goods, beauty products, and shoes. Some of the sections are disorganized though and have items from other sections in the aisles that don't make sense (like chips by the socks, but this may have been a customer's fault if they misplaced the item). read more

I find the selection value for the items to be very reasonable, and the service is great. Lot Less Closeouts 299 Broadway is another store I search for deals. When I worked nearby I enjoyed shopping during my lunch break. It's a great discount store when I need items like pillows, pillow cases, wash clothes, and hand towels. They have lots of cosmetics and food. There's a wide variety of merchandise. It's a store I take time looking through all the shelves. I've never had a problem with customer service when I need help in the aisle or at check out. I'm recommending. read more

I often browse in this store if I'm passing by one. I was killing time here as I waited for a sandwich order. If you're into discount shopping, this is a great find in NYC. They have all sorts of things: food, housing decor, bathroom stuff, etc. I found some travel bottles (which are hard to find and usually not a style I like) and opted to get a mat for the bathroom that my cats love playing with. Lines can get long and the aisles aren't the widest but the line I was in did move along so if I'm in this area I'd definitely stop by if I needed something or had time to kill. read more

Because I prefer not to subject myself to the rudeness of one of the cashiers at this Lot Less - even for an occasional good deal - I will not go back this store. This person was argumentative and was going to try to prevent me getting a refund when I returned some things well within their 15 day return window. Deciding it wasn't worth it to argue with her, I ultimately got my refund by staying calm, friendly, and persisting in the face of her dirty looks and bad vibes. Unfortunately, she seems to be on a management level and brought everyone at the registers down to her level in terms of unfriendly looks and vibes. This should be called House of Things You Might or Might Not Need. During a recent visit, a few items caught my eye. I was tempted to purchase the following: Shake Weights-- as seen on TV, they might give me Michelle Obama-esq toned arms if I shake often and long enough ($9.99 if anyone is interested). Leopard print kitchen knives-- for the fashionable kitchen (zebra print also available). Sally Hansen Salon Effects stick on nails-- in "Queen of the Jungle"-- a leopard print and "Prep's Cool"-- an argyle print. I passed on the nails because I had a hard time trimming them last time. Luggage Locator-- supposed to be like a panic button in case you can't spot your luggage on the conveyer belt. I never had this problem, because I am very protective of my stuff and know exactly what my bag looks like despite all the other bags looking the same. Might be useful for someone with limited eyesight. Might set off TSA alarms though. I would not play around with things that might beep in your luggage. Pass. Ladies... (and gentlemen in some states)..They have a Husband for Sale set of mugs + remote control. Only a few left! Finally, last but not least, Alex McCord onion chopper and other kitchen items. Does Alex want us to think that she is the next Martha Stewart? Doubt JC Penney and Macy's would fight for exclusive rights to sell her licensed kitchen aids. If the Alex McCord items are already in Lot Less (haven't seen any press about the new line even though I read AM New York and Metro religiously), is that the kitchen aid version tantamount to a straight to DVD movie? (Btw, I've also seen Skinny Girl by Bethenny body lotions at Lot Less). Do not purchase: Crystal Light Peach Bellini drink mix-- even though the big display states than it was seen on the Apprentice with Donald Trump, it has a very chemical taste. Who ever made this: you're fired! Stash Mango passion fruit tea-- tastes weird, like poupouri (how the heck do you spell that word?) This store is popular, and there is a line at the checkout most of the time. However, they have a guy watching and yelling "next customer!" to move the line along. This place is awesome. I stumbled upon it while walking from SoHo down to the World Trade Center PATH to go home. So what did I find, you ask? ... Four drinking glasses for $3? Garnier face cream for $8? Six velvet hangers for only $3? WIN! And it's only a few minutes walk from the WTC PATH train, along with the N, R lines. I don't have anything like this near my place in Hoboken - the closest thing would be Target, but it's hard for me to get there. Plus, places like Lot Less have stuff from all over the place, Walmart, Target, etc. (that's my guess, at least, since I saw some Walmart stuff here) So it's like a bonanza here. Granted, a lot of the stuff you probably wouldn't want (like those $1 cheap picture frames that I see piling up at places like Dollar Tree), but the basic necessities like envelopes, pens, kitchenware, I would totally stop by here and check out what deals they have. Plus they take credit cards! I'm going to come back here if I'm in the neighborhood, and buy tons of stuff I think I will need (but most likely don't). read more

Jay-Z has been spending hundreds since they had small faces. I've been shopping for bargains at Lot Less since it was "Odd Job Closeouts." I love Lot Less, and I love this one in particular. Sometimes you need a little break in your day. You stop at Lot Less. You find something you didn't know you needed - and cheap. Ten minutes later, you're headed back to your day, feeling like you've conquered the modern challenges of hunting & gathering. Some of the great things I've found at Lot Less: a purple bowl and plate that I keep in my office, 2 silver (read: fancy looking) picture frames that I filled with photos of my part-time dog to display on my desk, 2 appointment books that I use for my phone messages (I liked it so much I bought a 2nd one for next year), a box of thick black permanent markers, a box of thinner marker pens, cereal, granola bars, hot chocolate mix, coffee mate, a set of CDs of "soda shop" music for my mother (who is into that kind of stuff), and last but not least... a really cute suit jacket for $9.99. Other reviewers mentioned a preference for the Lot Less on Chambers. Actually, this one is better because it's smaller. The one on Chambers is too big - you want to spend a few minutes in a Lot Less, not a half hour. And, on Chambers St., the lines are too long. The thrill of finding cheap granola bars loses a little something when you have to stand in line ten minutes to pay for it. Great place to come and waste time. Cant tell you how many times i have wandered in here "just looking" and left with a bunch of cheap randoms that are essential in some weird way. Things here are cheap. Its awesome. But most things are available for a limited time only. So, those $1 boxes of mac and cheese you scored last month have now been replaced by $3 jars of naturally More peanut butter. But hey, you cant go wrong. its like a treasure hunt every week. Stores like these, most people either love or hate. I don't find anything wrong with stores like these. If I pass by, I would most likely walk in. Why? Because you can find stuff that you most likely won't think of in here. Food - I'm not a fan of buying food here because you have to look at the expiration date. They will sell seasonal items for very good price and you can always find household items. Their snack session is pretty good, not sure about the food. I will suggest to check the expiration date. This Lot Less is what I expected the other location near Reade street to be like when I first went there but wasn't, kind of dirty, lots of items put in the wrong spots and hit or miss on the stocking of different areas. This store is legend, wait for it... Some background - I just moved into my first apartment in the city. I need things. These things come in all shapes and sizes. Then the things have wrappers. I need things to put those things in. Then I bought a thing that needs another thing to work properly. BB&B has all these things. Lot-less has those same things for cheaper. But the merchandise doesn't really make this five stars. No, not at all. It's the fact it's well-lit, clean and organized. It honestly doesn't feel like a discount store, except the deals will knock your socks off every time. And then you can purchase more socks... for $2.99. Once my apartment is fully decked out, I will continue frequenting Lot-Less so that I can find more ridiculous deals. Now - go spend your money. You only need a few bucks. Oh and... -dary! read more

You want diversity? Surprises? Bargains? Pop in to this store. But let's be real, or you might not like it. First of all, it is scruffy in a hard-used kind of way. The fixtures have been banged around, the floors are heavily trodden, the lights harsh and fluorescent, revealing every flaw. Second, you never know exactly what you might find here. They've got a little bit of everything - food, clothing, electronics, housewares. And, when they pile up their latest stock in the window, four feet high, you know it is a one-off: when it is gone, it is Gone, Girl! Third, the staff is professional, but they aren't going to give you a lot of happy customer service palaver. They will check you out efficiently, bag your purchase nicely, might even say thank you, but aren't going to humor you with that "Did you find what you are looking for?" stuff. After all, the place is like a giant garage sale, and who knows what you are looking for, anyway? But you can find great stuff here, dirt cheap. Brand name juicers for $25. Snooty cookies in delicate packages for half the price you'd find them at a regular supermarket. Boxes of name brand organic teas. Toys for your nephew's birthday. a pair of sweats to wear while you paint the apartment, all at prices that are affordable for everybody. $3 bras, assorted styles and colors, on a big table that looks like a sandbox. You never know what you might find. You will rub shoulders with everybody, everybody seeming to somehow get along as they pursue their true purpose of bargain hunting. My sisters and I refer this this Lot Less as mini Lot less. Not as fun or as well stocked as the "medium Lot less " on Chambers, the charm of this one is that it is more unorganized and smaller than the other two in the area. So, that means that fewer people find this store as attractive to shop in and sometimes you can find bargains in your size here that you can't find in the other Lot Less! After missing out on a great pair of sneakers and finding the size at this mini Lot Less, I now will pop into this one and the one on Chambers. All in one, a good place to pop into for housewares,to office supplies to clothes. i once found Calvin Klein boy shorts here and snapped them all up. read more

This store is across the street from my office and I go frequently for supplies for work parties. I haven't bought any clothing from here but I did buy wrapping paper ($1 per roll!). In the back corner is all the pans, plates, etc that are necessary for a work party. Everything is so inexpensive that it really makes sense to put out table cloths at work parties now! The store can get crowded but people are polite. They have lots of kids toys so I might explore that for my niece and nephew. While I certainly don't make it a habit to go to LL, I do live close-by so I have been to this location on a couple of occasions. In these tough financial times we're living in, many people see Lot Less as a go-to-destination to purchase a wide variety of products at recession-friendly prices. I can attest to the bargain-basement prices and the extensive variety of products offered. So, that's why I decided to give them two stars. However, the incompetent management and the overall unsanitary condition of this store has led me to give no more stars. Emblematic of the former point of error is what transpired yesterday. I had run out of AA batteries for my portable keyboard so I decided to take the short walk to Lot Less. Notwithstanding the fact that it was 5:30 and so I knew it would be crowded, I figured that the manager of this LL location would make sure to have enough cashiers to accomodate the influx of customers. Naturally, this did not occur and there were only two cashiers working the registers while the manager of this place handled a third register. So, while the line ballooned to about twenty people, the ascenine supervisor failed to tell one of three other people I saw that work there to stop twiddling their thumbs and work a register. Such incompetence is inexcusable. As for the second gripe, well, let's just say that if I had a Hazmat suit, I'd consider wearing it the next time I go to this LL location. The floors do not seem to have been cleaned since the store first opened and many of the items have so much dust on them it seems that they someone purposefully sprinkled volcanic ash on top of certain items. Because of the ridiculously low prices at LL and it's close proximity to me, I resisted the temptation to give this place 1-star. I love this chain of stores! They are always busy and are always putting new products out. If you are on a budget or not take a trip. The selection at each location is extensive and diverse. The best part is they carry popular brands you want. When I was there, they had stocked everything from Bratz dolls, Halloween costumes, kitchen towels, iHome players, food steamers, CD's, shoes, make-up, clothing men and women, bedding, curtains, etc. Definitely worth the trip! Lot Less is the best ever and they're growing more and more popular! They have 3 different stores, a new one just opened up on Fulton St (where the old Strand bookstore was). I live near Lot Less so I tend to go there whenever I need something. They sell various items, from beauty care, household items, to clothes. And all brand names! No need to go to Macys for your expensive dish set, just go to Lot Less for the same thing but at a fraction of a cost! I love that! The only bad thing about Lot Less is that things are really unpredictable. Some times they have some stuff, some times they have others. I believe this is like some kind of discount warehouse where they purchase overstocked or out-of-season items from manufacturers and sell them at a fraction of a cost, so depending on what is out there and what Lot Less can get their hands on, the items varies from time to time. read more

Sometimes, Lot Less managers are smart enough to realize that taking back defective merchandise usually means selling me more stuff and making more money off me that the cost of the product returned. For example, I bought a jar of Indian style sauce; I took it back when I realized the vacuum seal had been broken -- not a good thing. I returned the jar (it was only one of many things I'd bought that trip) and immediately went, found another, intact jar -- and bought a few other things along the way. But the manager on that shift was clearly unhappy having to deal with a return. I also noticed that the same product in jars with broken vacuum seals remained on the shelf for some time after. Some Lot Less managers are just plain bitchy. I bought a bunch of battery-operated under-shelf lights; the next morning when I came into the kitchen; four out of four lights had dropped off. The pressure-sensitive adhesive on the mounting was not adequate, clearly. I took them back; said the manangeress with a grin, sorry, opened and no original packaging -- we won't take them back. So, the word here is, caveat emptor. And try to identify which of Mssrs. Cohens' managers are customer-oriented and which are not. Expect problems about one out of three times when returning defective merchandise, and always assume the manager will be grumpy. As to the women who've been posting praise: Yeah, right, sure. Me, I'll go someplace where the Middle Eastern bazaar-ethic (let the buyer beware!) is a little less pronounced, thank you. read more

The Chambers Street location is not on my mental map, so I really can't compare the two locations. I can say that I have gotten stuff here that I couldn't find anywhere else. A wonderful cross body shoulder bag at a time when there were no cross body bags in the stores. A cosy gray zip top athletic top, list price $40 and at LL $10. Yoga shorts! And that I when I wasn't sure about a red sorta plastic-y jacket, the staffer said - well, take it home. If you don't like it, bring it back to return it. For the whole $13. The cashiers' work is dull - and I am sure not well paid. But I do like the camaraderie that they share. It makes the checkout more pleasant and amusing. read more

I'm a big (big) fan of bargain/closeout type stores, though sadly, Manhattan rents have gotten so high there really aren't any good ones left there at this point. Most Yelpers probably aren't old enough to remember Odd Lots, let alone the even earlier Job Lot. I was in those places All. The. Time, I still browse TJ Maxx regularly (even though their prices have been creeping up and the quality, creeping down...) and I make a beeline for the clearance section in any store that has one... In Brooklyn, I currently shop at Amazing Savings regularly, and I'm something of a 99-cent store connoisseur.{lol} But this place? Totally meh. The Lot Less chain in general is a pale shadow of its predecessors and better competitors, and this particular location is the pits. Half of what they sell, you can buy cheaper at pretty much any "99¢ (and Up) Store". And what little they sell that you can't buy at a decent 99¢ Store is overpriced and usually crappy quality (if you must even *think* about buying electronics or appliances here, don't let it go further than thinking!) Barring a decent 99¢ Store, you're generally better off at at TJ Maxx for 90% of what they sell (*any* sort of clothing, house- and kitchenwares, or many of the random food things they carry.) Now if, like in this neighborhood, your alternatives are overpriced Duane Reade (for random household or personal/beauty care items when "generic" is fine) or (also overpriced) Staples, for the more generic stuff like ballpoint pens, pencils, or cheap notebooks, there's some reason for the occasional visit. Just not for most of what they sell. And I really have to strongly disagree that this place is any good for general "browsing for interesting-and-cheap-things", unless overpriced (even at their prices) chintzy crap is your idea of "interesting"... read more

I came here to meet a friend. She openly loves this place and I openly laugh at all of the random things that she buys that she doesn't really need. Like the mini frying pan that's perfectly sized to make grilled cheese sandwiches for $4 (I mean how many grilled cheeses do you truly make per month and why does it need its own pot?) However, when I came to meet my friend here the other day on one of the coldest days of the year and my eyes wandered to a wall full of women's thermal sets for $7.99, I caved in and admitted that this place might be pretty awesome. As I sit here writing this review on the second coldest day of the year (but this time while wearing my new thermals), it makes me smile. read more
