Purchased a shirt from them online which was not red as pictured (it was advertised as "brick" but was clearly just orange). No problem, they said that I could return it. I returned the item to them the same day following their messaged instructions. I never got my refund of $68. I've since asked about the refund. They confirmed via screenshot that they did receive the item back within the timeframe and claimed to have issued a refund. They sent a screenshot that shows a refund "pending" even though it's been months. Now they tell me the refund has been issued on their end even though it only shows as pending. They tell me to take it up with PayPal. Again they have confirmed they received my merchandise back. I still do not have a refund. Safe yourself the headache. Do not do business with this merchant. They are dishonest. read more

First of all I want to say that I have never written a bad review before in my life. I generally have no desire to say anything potentially damaging about local small business owners. That being said, I am so disappointed in my recent experience with this store that I cannot help myself. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars at Cloak and Dagger and have also gone to their store in Woodstock, so obviously I love the selection of clothes. Actually I love the store so much that I bought a dress for a girlfriend hoping to turn her onto the store. Unfortunately, the dress did not fit her correctly and so we went to the store together for an exchange. While there I was informed that they will only offer an exchange after ten days. The dress was in perfect condition, never worn, had all the tags and I offered the receipt. I wrote the owner and was told that "unfortunately there is nothing that can be done", as if there is a law preventing her from offering me an exchange. This is dishonest. She is choosing not to value an loyal and consistent costumer, and this just leaves me feeling unappreciated as a costumer and incredibly disappointed. Obviously I will miss shopping there, but my own integrity demands that I spend my money in local businesses that want to have a good relationship with me. read more

I have been a fan of Cloak and Dagger since my days of working at Metrotech in downtown Brooklyn. Last weekend I was making my way down to the museum when I noticed their east village location. Wow!! Talk about gorgeous! I wanted every Zooey Deschanel Peter Pan collared dress and leather booties in the shop. This season was almost Wes Anderson movie lay out. There was little circular green suitcases, patterned shirts, colored slacks and fun printed little scarves for purse flare. I also loved the way the styled the model in a feminine slightly rocker look. The real drool-worthy item in my opinion is the Opening Ceremony purse with a small metal hand closure! Stunning! And with a pair of Andy Warhol's Factory silver shoes styled underneath the purse! Fabulous! The clerk showed me the wallet and it had a black hand with red nail polish closure and the coin purse inside even had a little hand as an opener. This is also a great place to find cards for many occasions! Thank you's and birthday cards are the popular ones. And adorable and soaps for when you have out of town guest! My favorite has to be the double printed pineapple wall paper! It made me happy and I wanted all for myself. I will be making more visits to this little shop and my wardrobe will thank me and my wallet will hate me. We can't all be happy. Sorry wallet! read more

A Really cute selection of clothing. Only thing is that I think store owner can do more to ensure a safe shopping experience by reminding patrons to wear a mask and wear a mask the correct way (no chin guards). Especially since the store is small so ventilation isn't strong. I had to leave the store before paying because another patron refused to wear her mask to cover her nose and mouth. read more

The store is cute and has a good collection of trendy clothes but the owner of the store was very pushy and dishonest. I purchased a dress that has a major defect that prevents my dress from been functional. The owner disguised the defect and pushed me to purchase the dress for $150+. Because of their no return policy, I can't return the dress. This is unacceptable, even for an independent store like this one. I live in the East Village area and will NEVER go back there for this type of customer service. I will make sure I tell all of my family and friends to never visit this store. read more

I once had a negative experience with a salesperson's attitude regarding a return. Upon seeing my yelp review, Brookelynn (the owner) personally contacted me to rectify the situation. She was polite, thorough, and conscientious about keeping the customer happy. She explained the situation and asked what she can do to make me feel good about shopping at the store again. One cannot change a past experience, but taking steps to personally investigate, admitting a mistake, and seeking feedback from the customer is a mark of a best-in-class business. It's this kind of service that makes me love and support local businesses such as Cloak & Dagger. On top of that, their curated selection of items is to die for! read more

I live around the corner and I am so glad to have this lovely boutique in my neighborhood! The clothes are beautiful and well-made, the store is gorgeous, and most of the time the designer herself is working there and happy to chat and help you browse. The clothes are pricey but do go on sale if you wait. And everything I have bought has been so timeless and of high quality that I know I will be wearing them for years to come. I bought the cutest vintage dress here yesterday. The original price was $$$ but it had been sitting there on the rack for almost a year because no one could fit the waist. Low and behold, I had some money to drop to get ready for the new year. It was fate. One of the salesgirls (owner?) had dropped it down significantly to almost 60% off. For a vintage dress that fits like a glove? A definite steal. The store IS on the high end side so expect to bring a decent amount of money. But on those days where you don't want to look like everyone else, I suggest it's worth it. They have tons of cute and kitschy items. Think, Girls meets Zooey Deschanel. read more

Staff was amazingly helpful. Found a beautiful corduroy skirt in green. The woman at the desk new what size would fit me just by looking which was super helpful as I was in a rush and the sizing was a traditional. They take both cash and card which is rare these days. They definitely have a new repeat customer!! read more

Quite possibly one of my favorite boutique finds, Cloak and Dagger is filled with flowy tops and dresses in bold prints, blues, reds and neon yellows. The store itself was a tad pricey for on-a-budget me with pieces from $60-$120, but it was definitely somewhere that was getting a second visit in the future. read more

One of this first boutiques my daughter introduced to me in NYC. While my daughter is much younger and stylish than me, I love the friendly atmosphere and gorgeous clothes. I must emphasize the customer service. It is such a pleasure to shop here as everyone is super friendly and helpful. I purchased a vintage lumber jack coat (we are Canadian) that I love. *This is a review of their east village store* 24hrs ago I bought a graphic print jumpsuit from this store and even though my style is more quiet, I thought "what the hell, maybe for once I can wear something bold." The next morning I tired the jumpsuit on again and it just felt wrong so I went back to the store to ask for an exchange and was told that they can't do that because the jumpsuit was on sale. No one told me all sales are final when I was buying it yesterday but that would've been a perfectly acceptable answer if the salespeople behind the counter didn't insisted that I tell them why I didn't like the jumpsuit. I tired to explain why I don't feel comfortable wearing it and they kept insisting that I was wrong. How can be someone be wrong about their personal taste? So after going back and forth like this for awhile, I left feeling humiliated for not liking a piece of clothing that I don't want to wear. I wasn't even asking to get my money back, only to find something that I actually would wear. This store is cute, but don't plan on returning anything. They flatter you in the beginning and judge you in the end. read more

I love this boutique! I had a great experience here when I visited this week. After trying on a dress, the woman working there (Lauren?) paired it with some adorable wedge platforms and the cutest denim jacket from Courtshop, a NY based line. They have tons of local designers as well as lines from Europe and vintage clothes! They also have gift items - I bought some soaps from Saipua, a Brooklyn based company, some wrapped with subway maps! The best souvenirs for friends back home. read more

I second all that's been said! This is one of my three favorite shops in the city. I can't walk in without wanting pretty much everything in it and the owner is kind, generous, honest, and has the most perfect, amazing taste. The dresses I've bought here are among my favorites and those that I get compliments on whenever I wear them (which is all the time). I've bought both vintage and new stuff here, all of it great. What makes C&D especially great, though, is the owner, Brooklynn, who is usually around--looking adorable--and who is utterly honest about what works and what doesn't work for you and your body. This fall, after I'd lost a bunch of weight, she helped me pick out a few pieces that are trendier than my norm and I left feeling like a new person. Seriously, stop in. Omg. So amazing. This place is exactly what I was looking for in a women's unique boutique - the style is very vintage inspired / French school girl but with updated silhouettes and prints. Mainly dresses, blouses, shorts - dressy casual type selections. They have a small but well matched shoe selection, a great mini- rack of vintage pieces that were truly curated for this shop! The sales associate was so sweet and helpful and not the slightest bit pushy or annoying - even saved me time with her honesty by suggesting certain picks might not fit my body type due to the unusual cut. I appreciate that because man or man I hate trying on clothes. Adorable and unique apparel pieces ranging from about $70 to $300 - the kind of stuff you can't find without combing through racks and racks of a department store. Loved everything I tried on. I have been shopping at Cloak and Dagger for about a year now and recently had back-to-back terrible experiences. Most recently, I bought a jacket which I went to return for store credit or a gift card. The first clerk said she could do that after looking at the item (with the tags still attached) and the receipt but made me wait while two other people who came up to check out after me, were ushered in front of me. That clerk proceeded to delete the store's record of my purchase after so that the second clerk, who finally got around to helping me, was left in the lurch. This clerk then said that because the jacket was a marked down item (but not a sale item which is final sale) they couldn't give me store credit or even allow me to exchange the item on the spot, which I was willing to do. Her only consolation was a snarky recommendation that I could "regift it". This experience followed after Cloak and Dagger sold me damaged jeans and then made me wait over a month to get a new pair, sent directly from the designer, versus giving me a pair they had in stock while they waited for the designer to send the store a new pair. If this is how they treat their loyal customers, I can't imagine how they treat folks who are brand new to the shop. I will not be returning to Cloak and Dagger. Their clothes are over-priced and their clerks are rude. read more

Amazing clothing designed by Brookelynn Starnes! Her designs are modern, but classic and timeless. Great dresses!! With a change of shoes and accessories her dresses can go from chic day time to drop dead evening. Her clothes are also incredibly well made, with quality fabrics. The prices are on the high end of my budget, but worth the money! Compared to the quality of clothes I see in other boutiques, her clothing is an investment that will last. She also carries beautiful Italian handbags and vintage boots! I bought a pair of vintage Salvatore Ferragamo boots for $250! They are practically brand new!
