Had to take a full day out of my schedule (lost valuable freelance project time) to travel to this upscale shop and meet with the owner. Owner was quite busy, but gracious enough to give me her full attention while I presented my portfolio. We discussed ideas for their logo redesign and poster project. I gave a project quote and requested to be paid upon completion. Total mistake. The following day, I emailed her assistant 4 different concept sketches so that we may move forward (job ad claimed this was a job with a tight deadline and required several revisions). No answer. Several days later, I emailed asking for an update. No answer until about a week later. I get some pretentious 'we're having such a busy season, we cannot answer your email at the moment.' Ridiculous. It's been well over a month and I have never gotten a response back. I am a beginner at freelance work and have been struggling to land a full-time design-related position. I like to work with family owned companies, and this is the most unprofessional flaky experience so far. I don't recommend working with this company.

Items are unique -- you won't be walking around in something everyone else is wearing. 3. It's like visiting your sister's closet. The store is small and the owner is a true fashionista. He'll pull things off the rack for you to try and pretty soon you feel like you're shopping with a friend, and having fun doing it. 4. No pressure. The floor stocks only one of each style, no sizes (my guess is they are around 4/6), which my friend is lucky enough to fit into. We loaded the dressing room with half the store and my friend paraded each sharply designed dress revealing even more seductive detailing then could be discerned through hanger appeal. Other women (also waiting for tables at Frankies) joined us in fawning over each other's selections, yeaing and neaing as each of us stepped out the dressing room like we were all the best of friends. The moment, the bond, the way we sincerely invested ourselves in insuring we each purchased (and we did each purchase) a dress that showed off her perfect ass or her awesome tits or adjusting the necklace chain so the brass K perched dangerously atop my décolletage... we were a magnificent team of fashion whores... but as the host across the way began to call us to our tables, we exited one by one never to speak to each other again. ---- Espresso cups empty, money laid down, my friend and I stood up to continue on our evening romp. And I never quite had the gall to review this place for fear of others knowing I sometimes drop in and buy what's on trend, if I like what I see. Now, after the major re-up, post-Sandy disaster, Dijon has moved one store down, and literally downsized to about half the space it used to have. The trade-off with this however, is a better organized, more streamlined store, and the shopping experience is boosted as a result. The window display is actually very inviting now, and looks like they hired a visual merchandising decorator or something. Before, you'd feel like you were shopping at the 99 cent store of clothing stores, but now, it actually feels like a boutique. Sort of. I did come in last night and buy three tops, and altogether it was less than $35. I mean, where does that happen anymore? Don't get me wrong, I love me my Forever21, but Dijon is a little more forgiving in terms of the sizes they have, being more womanly for those of us whose hips don't lie (thank you for that song, Shakira). They have name brands here, and as other reviewers have mentioned, the tags are usually ripped off or crossed out with what appears to be black ink from a Sharpie. That's cool Dijon, I ain't mad at ya. If you can get me LOFT, Banana Republic, GAP, etc for 1/5th the price, go ahead and tear up all the tags inside the clothes, I'm fine with that. Even if some items are out of season, or fit a little oddly, as they sometimes do, the store makes up for it, by trying its best to stay on trend and keep things fresh. Whenever I feel like getting new duds for a trip or vacation, I'm not against shopping here to get something that might not last forever, but is the flavor of the season and will look cute on me for all intents and purposes. They have a shoe section, which is akin to shopping at Target with how everything is laid out and displayed, but here again, they do carry name brands at attractive prices, so it's kind of pretty sweet, though the actual selection can sometimes be hit or miss. A lot of FiDi women shop here, and really no one is against saving some money, and that's why Dijon has lasted all these years. I've seen it.

It's a good place to get basics that you don't expect to wear for more than a few months (e.g. strange brands, all made in China). In that respect, Dijon/DJ aren't so interesting - there are similar shops all over the Financial District, not to mention all over this city. HOWEVER, if you have the time to hunt? De Janeiro/Dijon is a closeout clothing haven!! Banana Republic, Nine West, Gap, etc... Regular clothes in well-known brands are marked down 50-90%. Stuff may be from the previous season, or they may be from YEARS ago - as in the case of a Banana Republic blazer I snagged for $25, original price $240. From the 2010 season, but who the hell cares? If you're like me, you'll jump for glee when you see the label inside the collar markered over or cut out. Yay steep discounts! Head back frequently to check what's new in stock. Be prepared to swim through oceans of badly made clothes that are a waste of fabric.

Phone number in this Yelp page isn't working, their web page is void of a phone number, and an email to their customer support bounced back. I will take this review down if I (somehow) get a positive response. Next stop will be BBB and Google reviews.
