Celebrated a friend's birthday here. The food was exceptional, fresh ingredients, carefully prepared. All good choices: Boston Bibb Salad, Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Sliders, Chicken Marsala, Filet Mignon, Cod. The portions are more than ample. The main dining room is intimate, but I wouldn't want to sit in the back room by the kitchen and bathroom. Maybe request the main dining room when making a reservation. This could have been five-stars, but on a slow night (only four tables dining), our wait person continually disappeared. A long wait to order, sitting with our finished plates for 15 minutes, and a maddening long time to get a check. And when I went to the restroom, I found our server, hanging out in the back, talking on her cell phone. read more

My friends and I had a very nice dinner at Five Bays Bistro tonight. We shared a delicious appetizer of deep fried artichoke, with lemony, stems and crisp fried tips. Then two of us had the soul, one had salad with salmon, and another had salad plus mashed potatoes. My soul was very nice. Fresh, deep-fried, with a lemon buttery sauce with capers. The risotto was very nice, the asparagus were a little tough and stringy. Our service was wonderful. read more

Considering the great service I almost bumped it to 4 stars. We were seated in the back room near the swinging doors that led to the kitchen and bathrooms. The restaurant is loud and we had difficulty having a conversation. I started with an Aperol Spritz which was refreshing. Two of us ordered the clam chowder which really should have been called potato chowder. Hardly a clam in sight and too much corn starch. For dinner I got the chicken marsala. The chicken itself was delicious, tender and moist. The sauce was way too sweet and overpowered the chicken. It sat atop parmesan risotto which for me had way too much parmesan flavor. Again overbearing. My friend was not a fan of the scallops but my other friend enjoyed them. All in all a decent meal but not sure if I would go back. read more

Osterville is fancy and Five Bays Bistro fits right in. Dress in your summer best preppie gear, which I love. You can look really nice if you choose but don't slouch in the summer resort fashion. I like that by the way. I like looking like I care. Lilly Pulitzer not required but welcome. We started our night with the barbecue baby back ribs and the lobster Mac and Cheese. Okay! The ribs were delectable. I didn't know I was going south tonight. I thought I was in Massachusetts! But the lobster Mac and Cheese did not congeal. Perhaps they can work on this for next summer. Our meal was top notch. So flavorful! I had the short rib - hard cider braised short rib, cheddar, polenta, roasted root vegetables, pan jus - to be exact.It was absolutely perfect. Again, I was transported to New Orleans. The chef put some textures and flavors together that made for an outstanding meal. My friend had the salmon with celery root puree, kale, fennel, spiced pumpkin seed gremolata. I mean - what is gremolata? Who knows. Just eat it! Yes, I would go back here. OMG I can't believe I hadn't updated this review!!!! Since Jan 2023, we have become regulars when we are in town. To the point of always wanting Gail as our server. Why? She's got sass, pizzass, wise-as..., knows the menu inside and out, and knows what waters our whistle. I'm not going to say the kitchen is perfect every time. There have been times when the risotto is cold or the beautiful sauce for their mussles are on the chilly side. It happens. But the food is consistently wonderful and I normally have the mussels as my entree and ALWAYS the charbroiled oysters. 5 to an order. Wine list is always on point and the burgers are always a fall back for the hub with truffle fries. The attraction? A bar scene that is eclectic and has a heartbeat to it, because the staff tends to its visitors with VIP TLC each and every time. Memorable dishes? Damn you for the fried artichokes this season. OMG were they something cravable! For as long as 5BB is here, we will put our butts on the bar stools, sample their beautiful wines, have the oysters, spectacular dinner (and killer carrot cake when its on menu). I feel regretful to leave a negative review for a restaurant that had such phenomenal food and atmosphere. It's with sorrow that I visited this restaurant about 2 weeks ago and I've been waiting to leave this review to see if the restaurant would be willing to make things right for my last visit but even after explaining my experience to the upper management, they still have not reached out in any way. I visited with 3 friends for a double date (My girlfriend and a couple from out of town). I had one of my good friends recommend this restaurant to me saying it was very good food. When we show up to our reservation, Nicole took our order and was an absolute angel to us throughout the night. I ordered a beer and handed her my ID. I had been the only one at the table who ordered alcohol. She came back out with my ID and told me the manager refused me service. I handed her my credit card as second form of ID to prove it was me and the manager still refused me. When I asked to speak with the manager she refused to come speak with me and I was instructed that I would need to come talk to her which I found extremely unprofessional. When I finally got up to ask what the issue was, she made a remark that she feels uncomfortable serving me because the hostess knew my girlfriend and apparently told the manager. The manager then made a disrespectful remark about my relationship with my girlfriend and told me she does not feel comfortable serving me. At this point I felt extremely embarrassed and unwelcome into the restaurant as a patron and I was about ready to leave but I promised my friends a good night and we were already here so I kept my composure. I politely reminded the manager that I don't know what prejudice she had towards me and my friends but I asked how I could receive my beer. She escalated things very quick and told me that if I wanted my beer so bad she would call the cops herself to have them verify my ID. This was an extreme escalation but without hesitation she called them and I waited at my table for them to show up. My girlfriend gets anxiety but I calmed her down because at this point she was very anxious and nervous. When the police showed, they once again made me stand up in the middle of the restaurant in front of everyone. The worst part is the police officer didn't just take my ID, he started questioning me as if I had done something wrong or illegal. At this point in the night it had gone from a fun double date to a disaster but I was committed because we had already ordered by the time the officer was there. I wish I would have just left with how hostile I was being treated but I just handed the officer my ID and sat back down. When he returned, he handed the ID to the manager, the manager scoffed and made a nasty look on her face and then went to the back. 5 minutes later, Nicole brought out my beer and the manager was no where to be seen the rest of the night. After being there an hour and a half I finally received my beer and no apology from anyone other than Nicole which was so sweet to us. I ended up paying the bill ($320) with a sour taste in my mouth. I gave some time to make sure I wanted to write this review and even reached out to the restaurant and explained the situation to one of the upper management members but even after telling me they would reach back out trying to make things right, they never got ahold of me. I imagine most people who eat at this place don't have to deal with the same thing and to be frank the food was absolutely amazing, I personally would never go back here just because of how they treated me (A paying customer) I would never recommend this place and what was supposed to be a fun night turned into a disaster of an evening. We were first timers. Loved the food so much (and the amazing service from Madeline) that we came back two nights later. Don't miss the Buffalo Cauliflower. We are vegetarians and Madeline came up with innovative adaptations both times -- one involving gourmet mushrooms and another involving vegetarian tacos. A true find. Had dinner at Five Bays Sunday, July 2, 2023 a party of six. We arrived in time and were seated at our table promptly. We placed our drink orders then all hell broke loose. A very large party I would say approximately 13 to 14 people arrived. Once they entered the restaurant any chance of conversation at our table was halted. Seemingly the party arrived well lubricated for the evening and cared nothing about the other patrons in the restaurant. Seemingly neither did the establishment. The party was extremely loud yelling and to one another. I don't believe they have ever heard about using an indoor voice. What is most disturbing is that the management of Five Bays did absolutely nothing to try and gain control of the situation. Not once did the management approach the party and ask them to turn it down. Nor did they stop serving alcohol to what appeared to be a highly intoxicated group. I will say our server offered apologies to us and did the best that she could. She offered to comp us a cocktail. Most people in our party refused. At this point we just wanted out. We have dined quite often at Five Bays but given the disrespect they showed to us last Saturday we will not be returning. read more

I went to dinner with three friends, off season, and on the early side (5:00), but the restaurant was buzzing in the best way possible. People relaxing and enjoying their dinners while the waiters were taking orders in a professional and friendly manner. Everyone's meal was perfection, I had salmon, and the drinks were terrific. Fantastic. Had a reservation.. on time.. had 1 drink at the bar. Great cocktails generous wine pour. At our seats .. Service was top notch. For starters We ordered calamari.. best I have ever had. So good. Not chewy, just tender and delicious. We also ordered lobster mac n cheese.. FANTASTIC. For the entrees I had the bolognese, others got swordfish, salmon and sole. All perfectly prepared. We were all very happy with this dinner experience. About $300 all in for 4 people.. 6 drinks, 2 appetizers, 1 Caesar salad and 4 fantastic entrees. read more

We dined here on Friday. The atmosphere is lovely and romantic! We got the buffalo cauliflower as an appetizer and it was delicious and healthy! For dinner, I had the beef short rib which was so good! The polenta that goes with it was so creamy and yummy. Highly recommend! My fiancé had their shrimp and cod Tempura special and he said it was also very good. We skipped dessert, but will definitely be back to try it. read more

Fantastic spot in Osterville. This is truly a place to stop when in the area great local vibe with excellent food and service. - Salmon with brown fried rice was amazing. The salmon was fresh, seared to perfection, and the rice OMG - just the perfect amount of seasoning and flavor. 5/5 - Halibut with sweet corn broth was a rock star as well. The corn broth was way more than we expected - just delicious. The halibut was fresh, flakey and buttery. 5/5 Thanks again for a great dining experience. We will be back! read more

The wait staff was excellent, food was mediocre at best. The real issue was that the management has no understanding of how to manage or control their customers. We just had a horrible experience, we were seat with appetizers ordered when management seat a large group 12-14 people who were very VERY obviously intoxicated, excessive loud, obnoxious and really quite out of control. They proceeded to serve them more alcohol and the group became unruly and even louder to the point we spoke to the hostess and nothing was done. Our group of six eat out dinners and left as soon as we could! If management doesn't figure out what type of clientele they want to attract I see this place going down hill serving young entitled kids which is there choice, but I will never step into this place again! I was expecting to be blown away by Five Bays. I have been passing by this restaurant for years and finally went with girlfriends for dinner. Tucked away in cute downtown Osterville -The restaurant is beautifully appointed, hostess (man) was very nice and waiter was wonderful. Food- had lobster bisque to start which was the consistency of puréed black bean soup and lukewarm at best. Next up was almond encrusted cod- about 3 almonds on the semi ok piece of cod with fingerling potatoes which were yummy and sad broccolini. The flowerless chocolate tort was delicious and cappuccino was on point. A touch of class in ambiance and service, not your typical Cape seafood house but more a classic bistro, well situated in downtown Osterville. The food is very good (e.g., seafood stuffed mushrooms, lobster bisque, blackened swordfish) though the marinade on the salmon was not loved by all guests in our party. The side order Mac-and-Cheese was to die for. The cookie a la mode dessert was excellent. Nice wine selection by the glass and in bottle. Only downside -- low ceiling in the back amplified noisy guests to create an absolute din. It got much better after one party left but wow was it loud for 20 minutes. read more

Husband and I enjoyed and anniversary dinner while on the cape the week after 4th of July. Our reservation was at 5 but we called a couple days earlier to push back and they fit us in at 6:30. High top at the front of the restaurant was tucked away from other people and felt like we were at a safe distance from everyone. Katie was our server and was delightful! New England clam chowder was very tasty, tomato and buratta salad was massive and enough to share. I had the Soul Francaise and my husband had the ribeye. Large portions that were seasoned well! We ordered three desserts to take home to family: cookie- amazing! Chocolate torte- amazing, so rich and a generous portion, lemon pound cake- meh, it was dense and a bit dry with little lemon flavor. Overall the meal was very satisfying. What can I say - if FBB was not nestled in the fabulously charming Osterville, I would be less than enthusiastic. Interior is lovely. Menu is average, if not uninspiring. Service was ok (but despite our asking for a veggie substitution, which our waitress hearitly agreed to, we got the original side), meal was also meh. Hey - the fact that you can get greatest hits like Rombauer and Mer Soleil by the glass, and not too steeply makes up for the fact that they wanted $3.50/oyster. Ha! Embarassingly, we will likely go back. I think I need to sit at that cool bar for dinner and slurp some of that honkin' Chardonnay (but not the gold-plated oysters)! read more

We've been hearing about this restaurant for awhile, so we decided to see what the fuss was about before the summer season began in earnest. Even though it was a Tuesday night, the front room was nearly full, so we opted for a cozy table for two in the back. Service was swift and friendly, and the cocktails we ordered, a Cosmo and a "Dirty Tito", were fun and refreshing. For starters, I ordered the 4-Cheese French Onion Soup on its final day on the menu (it typically takes the summer off). It was equal parts comforting and sumptuous. My wife ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower, which was also quite good. As an entree, I had the Pan-Seared Scallop special, perfectly seasoned and prepared, and in a sensible portion size. My wife had the pork chop special, topped with a raspberry vinaigrette and served with finger potatoes and asparagus. While well-done, the pork was tender and tasty. This was not my mother's pork chop recipe. At 3.5 miles from our new vacation home, I can tell it will be a very tempting culinary diversion in the near future. It's a bit pricey for a casual dining spot, but very much worth it for that special occasion. read more

Stopped here while on business on the Cape. Turned out to be a great choice. The bar area is well laid out, which is where we chose to eat. Atmosphere is modern, with well prepared new American food. I enjoyed the halibut although the sauce was a bit sweet for my liking. My associates ordered pork tenderloin and east chicken both of which were very nice....pork was a very healthy portion.
