Overpriced for mediocre food. Went on a Saturday night with friends after Ga game. My friend ordered the chicken with caper cream sauce over mashed potatoes. I ordered the yellowtail and crunchy shrimp roll. Both were good but very overpriced for what you get. I could have gotten better sushi at Publix for half the price. Be prepared to spend $30 - $40 per person for entree and drink. There are much better dining options in Athens. I will not be back. read more

Went for brunch this morning with two other people. The wait was very short even though it was busy (maybe ten minutes). Our server was very nice and promptly took our orders. I ended up asking for some caramel apple beignets about ten minutes after we ordered and they still came out first (very good but very sweet!). Main dishes did take awhile to come, right around 30 minutes. We all got different things one shrimp and grits that seemed a bit small portion wise for the price but that the grits and shrimp were delicious. Chicken and waffles were very good. The fried chicken was very crisp and flavorful. Our favorite was the breakfast burrito. It was large and soo tasty! It was awesome! If we come back I'd definitely get it again. The atmosphere was very cool, I loved the live jazz band and the chandeliers. Menu is small (only 5 entrees) but everything was good so we'll be back! read more

Very limited wine and beer list, very limited entree selection (6 or 7 items,) overpriced ($80 for 2 drinks, one appetizer, one salad, one entree,) loud, and so dark my wife used her iPhone to read the menu. It was Friday night and our first choice had an hour wait; at Five we were seated immediately; that was good, and the shrimp appetizer was excellent. Everything else was unremarkable; nothing for a vegetarian except a salad. To be fair, we're in our early fifties, and this place is for a younger crowd; Last Resort, The National, and La Dolce Vita are more our style in this price range. read more

I have never left a bad review in my whole life, I don't think I've ever left a review period, and I hate that I am leaving a bad review on what used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I've been to FIVE probably 15-20 times since I first went, every time was extremely great, only one time had I been where something similar happened to my most recent visit, which will be my last. The visit happened about a week and a half ago on a Friday night and I can honestly say this was the worst experience at a restaurant of any type, let a lone somewhere I've viewed as a pretty decent place. My date and I arrived at FIVE at 730pm and it was pretty crowded when we got there. I went up to the host stand to put our name in and the man, who I believed to be the GM, let us know our wait would be 45min to an hour. We were completely okay with that, he took our number down because they use a system that texts/calls you when your table is ready. There was nowhere to sit to wait so my date and I went next door to grab a drink while we waited on the text/call. I received my confirmation text for my place in line and downloaded the app so I could track my place in line. Well almost 2 hours later (915pm) my place in line was still at one person ahead of me so my date and I made our way back to FIVE. When we walked in almost every table was empty and no one was waiting. It was a little irritating but I just figured they forgot to page us and hopefully we could just sit down now with no issues, it had been very busy earlier so I understood. Well the waiter that ended up being our waiter came over to see what we wanted. I explained the situation and his only response was "I don't handle that so it's not my fault, are you guys still trying to sit down?" I responded yes and he said nothing but grabbed two menus and started to walk away. I figured he wanted us to follow so we did. He walked away and a few minutes later the man who took our name earlier, possible GM, came over to explain he must have put my number in wrong or I gave him my number wrong because they tried to reach us (even though I received a confirmation from them) but that he was sorry and wanted to know if we wanted any appetizers or drinks. I said sure, we planned on getting some anyways so we ordered those and they came out pretty quickly. At this point I was happy that he took the time to apologize and figured the rest of the evening would be great. Well a while goes by before the waiter comes over to take our order, we had decided shortly after we got our drinks and appetizers but neither the waiter or GM were around, they were actually hanging out by the bar so he hadn't seen we were waiting to order. When he came over our drinks were empty but he said nothing and didn't give me a chance to order another round he quickly walked away as soon as we told him what entrees we wanted. I figured I could catch him the next time. Well again did not see him again because he went straight back to the bar. Our food came out and was quickly put down on the table and again he walked right away as soon as the food hit the table. I figured he at least had to come back to see how the entrees come out, but another 30 minutes go by and we are done eating. Still with no drinks since we finished the first ones almost an hour before at this point. At this point I was apologizing to my date, as she had never been to FIVE before and I assured her before we got there that this was one of my favorite places in Athens. I told her I would just get up and find someone to grab our check and we could grab a drink elsewhere. At that moment I saw the GM leave the bar and walk by the kitchen so I finally was able to get his attention and he came over. I explained to him that the food was great and thank you for trying to fix the first issue but that we had been out of drinks for an hour and that our waiter didn't give us a chance to order anything else or come back to check on us at all and I would just like my check now since it was so hard to get their attention. The GM said nothing other than ok and walked away. A few minutes later he came back with a receipt, put it on the table and only said I just took care of it, started grabbing our plates and said nothing else. I honestly just wanted an apology and my check. I viewed the meal comp as a cop out for taking any care on his part to what had happened this evening, an apology would have been more genuine and felt less like "here's a free meal to get over how much we don't care about you eating at our restaurant". Like I said, I've never left a review of any type in my life but I felt like FIVE bar was one of my favorite restaurants and even though I won't return I think the owner should know about what happened and how the GM handled it. Such a shame, as most of my other visits were great, but only takes one that bad to ruin it. read more

Went to Jazz brunch this morning. The place filled in quickly and the service was excellent. Everyone at our table cleaned their plates. This is a HUGE step up from all the other restaurants that have been there. I'd give it five stars if the the prices weren't so high but in the end it was worth it. read more

Sometimes the universe aligns itself and you find the perfect restaurant/vibe for the circumstances. We spent the night in Athens on a road trip, and were in the mood for a wind-down with decent food and wine, which is exactly what we got. More than decent food, I would add. Some creative culinary thinking went into the the baked avocado we had for a starter (surpisingly good, with shrimp and bacon), and the white chocolate bread pudding we had for dessert (with a crust on top of a custardy pudding, like a creme brulee). The stuffed shrimp and chicken-topped salad in between were well-executed. Dark wine bar atmosphere, with an interesting decor of arcade-style colored lights and antique chandeliers (think Phantom of the Opera carnival ride.) Friendly staff and good service, especially from our server, Matisse. It appears there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Athens, but glad we chose Five Bar. read more
