The service was very good for lunch. The waiter/bartender was attentive and shared some history on the building. Had it been a nicer day, we would have sat on the deck overlooking the canal. The food was not that great. I had pulled pork and it was very greasy with pockets of fat that dripped. Impossible for me to eat as a sandwich so I used a fork. My friend said her brisket sandwich wasn't very warm. We plan to go back and try something besides the barbecue. Nice chill place to sit outside on the river with good food. It's a really great spot if you want to sit outside. Plenty of parking, but also mere steps off the trail if you want to park elsewhere and walk. All the food was fresh. We split the crab balls which were good. I got the grilled veggie sandwich which was massive and my husband got the pulled pork sandwich. We both really liked, especially the bread! Very high quality rolls. I came here with a friend after taking our dogs to the nearby dog park. Since they are pet friendly and he was hungry, it was a no brainer to make a stop here. We sat on the enclosed patio area and our food came VERY QUICKLY. They were out of my first two cider selections, but what can ya do. Nestled on the bank of the Schuykill Canal near Phoenixville/Mont Claire, sharing space with a canoe and inner tube launch and a beautiful trail you'll find Fitzwater Station. This is a comfortable, rustic-feel place, with great views of the canal from their deck and enclosed porch, which ring a very 70's-dive-bar feeling inner sanctum of sports, alcohol, dark wood and party lights, aka "the bar". Lion and I, thanks to you lovely fellow Yelpers, ventured there after a movie at the nearby Colonial Theater. It was a sunny day, and the place was bustling, both with people on the grounds launching their various floaty machines and those enjoying a meal. We were seated in the covered porch area with a great view of the river and a cool breeze coming from the mini-split AC. Service was at a nice pace. I got the hamburger (delish, basic, good people food) and Lion devoured his brisket cheesesteak. I love that they gave us time to relax without slowing the meal down. Prices are reasonable, parking is on dirt/grass/gravel, staff were friendly and efficient. We love this place, we rent kayaks and do the look and always work up our appetite for when we return. We sat on the deck and it was a windy day, things were blowing all over the place. The service was alright even though they clearly struggled to keep up. Everyone seemed to lend a hand being that they must have been short staffed. The food was good for the most part. The sandwiches hit the spot and were packed with flavor. They fell apart and just made them all that much better. As for the nachos they were a let down. The meat had no seasoning, it wasn't chili meat or anything that seemed flavored. Just ground beef and that really threw off the entire dish. First time back in Phoenixville area after a long time. Came to Fitzwater Station for a post Christmas lunch with my husband's side. One of my brother in law used to work here some 30 years ago. We ordered pulled pork sandwich, crab cake burger, chicken sandwich, fried chicken and waffle, fried onion rings, fish and chips, raspberry mule, and cinnamon with whiskey (I forgot the name of this drink!). Everything was good, but I think they really shine with their BBQ entrees, because you see a big BBQ pit in the back of the restaurant and it smelled so good! The restaurant overlooks the Schuylkill canal which was frozen. You see ducks waddling on frozen surface, and families ice skating. There is a decent size outdoor dining along the canal, which I think will be so nice in warm weather! I am looking forward to coming back in the spring and summer! read more

We went canoeing and this place was right by the rentals so we diced to try it on the way back , the ribs were absolutely amazing , falling off the bone , so so good . It's tucked away. And the locals don't share it. The setup is shore-like. Basic and low key by a tributary. Lotta kayakers. Safety procedures in place: Check. Menu board at one-way entrance: Check. While it isn't the most welcoming looking place in the dark or easiest to find with it being stuck back behind houses. The food was good, a bit bland but its bar food so it's not expected to be elaborate. However when paying $15 for a pork barbecue sandwich I would expect it to come with sides and not have to pay extra for fries. They were welcoming of us with our dog and seated us promptly. The service was good, constantly keeping an eye on us. I'm sure it would be a nice view in day light with the water even though it creates a creepy feel in the pitch black. They have a nice fire pit and game area outside with seating also. The bathrooms smelt vaguely of old pee but we're very well stocked with toilet paper. Really cool spot. Took a walk on the trail along the stream and just stumbled upon it. It's a nice place has an awesome outdoor area! The service was phenomenal. They were not the best tasting but I think you really need to come here for burgers and pulled pork sandwiches etc. I will say the crab balls were pretty good though. I've been to Fitzwater Station many times over the years. Primarily to drink, but sometimes to eat. If you're eating outside, the views of the canal are fantastic. It's calm and beautiful. On our most recent trip we decided to drop a car off in the parking lot and then drove out and ran back to the car. We stopped in and had lunch after a nice run. We sat outside on the deck and it was just starting to get busy. The servers were friendly and all over it service-wise. I loved their variety of beers, seltzers, and cocktails. My husband ordere their version of hot chicken and I order a bbq pork sandwich. My husband's sandwich was awesome. It had a great kick. My sandwich was underwhelming. Lacked flavor, but was very tender. We'll absolutely go back. We kayak, canoe, and fish by there and it's a great place to stop in for a drink or a bite to eat. read more

This tavern is a restored 19th-century building on the Schuykill Canal with a great history. They have indoor and plenty of outdoor seating on a deck overlooking the canal; a great place to watch cyclist on the bike path across the canal and the sun set. At ground level is an outside bar and a large area filled with picnic tables. Next to that is where they smoke their meats. Overall, a great atmosphere. The beer list is overwhelming and I asked the waiter for advice. He brought me four different beers to choose from. There have nothing on tap so I couldn't taste test before deciding. Pub food is just pub food. It shouldn't be bad it should just be flavorful. Hauté cuisine is not an expectation. We split an order of smoked brisket egg rolls; creative and enjoyable. I had the crab cake sandwich which was essentially flavorless. I could not taste the crab. The cake was deep fried but the inside was soft and mushy as if everything had been ground together before forming the patty. There was a topping of some sort served with it but it added no flavor. They have room for improvement here. My wife had the crab and shrimp salad which she said was good. The shrimp were blackened and made for a good plate presentation. I would go back here just for the atmosphere. As for the food, well on any give night you can get a below average meal in most restaurants. Fitzwater Station is in a really scenic location in a country-ish residential neighborhood along a canal next to the Schyukill (?) River across the bridge from the very cute Phoenixville downtown. Believe it when you read it is a "dive bar. " The interior is mostly very dark. There are some tables outside the main bar which are along the perimeter windows and we were happy to be able to seat our large party in a private-ish nook that was pretty quiet. The wait staff was very accommodating and friendly. This is Probably a great local place for drinking beer and maybe basic cocktails. Wine? Not so much. Food? Some people felt okay about their food-- okay for bar food. People with pulled pork had a grease fest -- literally swimming in grease. The smoked brisket tasted like kerosene or lighter fluid. Inedible. Overall, go here for a relaxed drink and small snacks, not for an actual meal. read more

Like a Tyson frozen chicken breast was thrown in an oven for 5 minutes until lukewarm, then drizzled (not coated like it should have been) in some kind of mediumish hot sauce. Fries were batter dipped (am I the only person in America who hates these ubiquitous things?) and ok. Ok. Not great. Ok. Probably because of the batter dipped nonsense. My wife got the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers and a crock of French onion soup. The poppers were overly greasy but she said the soup was excellent. Atmosphere was fun. Not the best barbecue I've ever had, but it was "good", the sides were whatever. The beer list was good, atmosphere good. Our waitress- bad. The place was not overly busy, there wasn't a wait for tables, there was quite a few empty tables, there was at least 4 waitresses that I saw on the deck, they weren't understaffed. I bartend myself, so I usually have a lot of grace with this subject. But we sat and waited over 15 minutes for someone to get our drink order, we put our food in at the same time. We ordered beer and asked for water. The beer came, but no water. Our beers were empty for about 20 minutes when she came back and said our food would be out soon. She hadn't checked on us, which is fine but then we had been done eating for about 15 minutes before she came back and we asked for the check. We probably would've gotten another round of drinks had we not been sitting there so long. Another 15 minutes before she brought the check to us. She walked by multiple times in the meantime and again, I have a lot of patience for this and a simple "hey I didn't forget I'll be right back with it" would've been nice. But we waited. New owner Frank is a great guy smoking some awesome BBQ. My husband and I moved to the area last month and can't stay away from this place. Our favorites: the Fitz Carlton sandwich, the Ribs, anything with brisket, and the smoked mac & cheese. I've traveled to Texas, KC, and Oklahoma for years and can tell you Frank's BBQ won't disappoint. Frank's chef is from Mexico and cooks up some awesome authentic Mexican food as well - a few menu items are a fusion of BBQ and Mexican and they're all fantastic. Haven't had a single thing we don't love. Staff is super and everything on the menu is fairly priced. Don't miss 3 for $6 tacos every Tuesday when you dine in or on the deck - they're all superb. This was by far the worst and last time. Bad Wait Staff will ruin your business. Get your act together, particularly on busy weekends. Don't mumble something and then walk away. We seated ourselves, unbeknownst to us that there was a waiting pager list ahead of us. It was downright humiliating , to be ignored, stared at and gossiped about by Pea Hen waitresses all hovering around a service station.The place smells like mould, which would explain the use of bleach on everything including the chairs which ruined a good pair of slacks I was wearing.
