The food was wonderful. They have a 'regular' menu with a variety of dishes ranging from burgers to jambalaya and a 'specials' menu that can go from pasta carbonara to gator bites. I have tried a different plate with each visit and have never been disappointed. The deserts do leave something to be desired. There are 2, carrot cake parfait & dark chocolate bread pudding. Neither one is to my taste but they have been on the menu for quite some time so they most appeal to someone. Like the plates, I haven't had the same wait staff but each one that served our table has been very nice and prompt without being in your face'. I had a really good meal at this establishment. The atmosphere is casual and a lot bigger than it appears from the outside. Serving staff were friendly and very helpful when I was making my food selections. It was a hot day. I wanted food but didn't want anything very heavy. I decided to order two starters. The salmon bites were my first choice. They were delish! Salmon was grilled perfectly with a nice seasoning. It paired really well with the serving sauce. My other selection was from the special menu. It was a crab salad tower served with tortilla chips. This dish was perfect for the hot day. The components of the tower worked so well together. It was light, filling and refreshing. I have to say I was disappointed with the cinnamon arancini dessert. The arancini were okay but I did not like the sauce served with it. From start to finish, this place gets 5 HUGE stars from us! My boyfriend and I arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday evening. We brought our 15 lb dog, Tootsie along with us. We were greeted immediately by a server and given menus. The outdoor space isn't huge, but it's nice because it's partially shaded and rustic. Our waiter, Greg, was phenomenal! He brought a bowl of cold water out right away for Tootsie. I wasn't familiar with most of the beer on the drink list, so Greg brought out 3 samples for me to try! I wound up loving the cider, it reminded me of wine. My boyfriend got an IPA, which was served ice cold. Greg told us that the chef/owner was a dog lover, and that he would make a meal for Tootsie! I figured it would be a few pieces of grilled chicken, but boy was I wrong! The chef hand-delivered her a bowl of grilled chicken, steak, carrots, and tomatoes. She is usually way too anxious to eat in public, but not this time! She took a few bites, then went back for more a little later. By the time we were ready to leave, she had eaten almost all of it. App: Mussels. These were the biggest mussels we've ever had. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was fabulous. The garlic bread was so fresh and delicious. Dinner: fish and chips for my b/f and the grilled peach salad for me. My b/f loved his meal and ate every bite. I had a bite of the fish and it was really good. My salad was just ok. It had a good taste, but was way too soggy. Dessert: bread pudding. Huge portion served with whipped cream. So tasty, but would have been even better with some vanilla ice cream. I've been to Craft Ale House a few times, but never ordered food. I love their beer selection and since we're required to order food with the purchase of alcohol, we checked out the menu. It's elevated pub food. We weren't super hungry so my husband ordered the hand-cut fries and I ordered the beet salad. The fries were amazing, so crispy and loved the rosemary/garlic combo. My salad was light and the perfect size for not being overly hungry. I tried the Bruery White Chocolate beer. It's a barley-wine beer with mid hints on white chocolate. It's also packs a punch at 14.8%. It was unique and something I could have one of, but then would need to move onto something else. But it was good. Service was great, the server was new to the area. She was very friendly and helpful with beer accommodations. While we are beer drinkers a table nearby was not and I overheard her helping them select a beer, brought over a sample, and one of the two of them ordered a beer. No soup, no corn ravioli, no corn chowder, no ranch and you can't get the ranch they put on the Southwest Chicken because they "aren't permitted". I have been going to this pub since it opened 8-10 years ago. Covid has had a profound effect of the quality of the service and the menu. I use to rate this a 5 star for the food. My recent visits including last night has proven that the owner does not care about his loyal patrons. Our dinner last night was the final straw, it was simply unacceptable for the high price being charge. I know the owner and when I approach him about the situation, he said this is how it is now, we measure out all the food. This was a ridiculous answer especially based on my long term loyalty. The best thing about this restaurant was the waitress. My friend and I both tried to tell her we didn't like beer, and she was super insistent that they would have something we'd like. She asked about our likes and dislikes and brought us out a personalized sampler of the draft beers for a blind taste test. After sampling each beer she helped us pick a drink we would love. She wasn't overly pushy and was generally very helpful. I took one star off because my friend's medium-well burger came out extremely undercooked. When she sent it back it came back... still undercooked? Luckily our amazing waitress acknowledged it and sent it back yet again. It was perfectly cooked on the third try, and the food was great. She even had the manager adjust the bill for us, which was not at all expected or requested. All in all we had a great experience here. read more

My fish & chips were extremely soggy and greasy, but the rest of my party had no complaints whatsoever about their meals (which ranged from burgers to steak to seafood curry). Note for large parties - this place does NOT take reservations. And the host will NOT seat your group until everyone from your party has arrived. Start things with an outstanding and unusual selection of beers on tap- backed up by one long bottle list. You can not leave thirsty. Our server was Johnny on the spot with tastes of the drafts to help us select. We decided to share an order of the mussels as our appetizer. They drove it out of the park on the first pitch. A bowl of ~12 to 15 giant mussels in a blue cheese flavored sauce that we drained to the last drop. Best I've had in this area- and that's saying something as Philly and mussels are like bread and butter. Everybody claims their is the best- these guys have a real shot at that title. Main courses: sausage trio and red cabbage with potatoes- generous, well executed, and delicious. Pizza's - 1 each, prime rib and crab. Toppings were very good, but the pizza lacked a crispy crust. Tasty, but would not repeat until they get the crust issue fixed. Oven not hot enough??? Skirt steak salad- well received and devoured. Dessert- the beignets were fantabulistic, warm and served with a dipping sauce that was perfect. Bread pudding was good but overly dense and lacked some necessary sauce. All in all, great value at about $40 a head all in. Portions are large- keep that in mind when you order. As gastropubs go, Craft Ale House is a notable destination in the Philly area, but it has it's strong and weak points. Strong: ~Truly epic beers selection, one of the best in the Philly area, with several 100's to choose from by the bottle/can (as of today, 394!), and 16 on tap, all of which are worth drinking and many being beers I've never heard of. On tap now, one of my all-time favorites: New Holland (MI) Dragon's Milk Bourbon barrel-aged stout (we also got a 10% six-pack discount on $6.50/bottle to take home). In general, the servers seem knowledgeable about beer (not that I'm a particularly good judge, being more of a wine geek). But I did find it odd that the above beer seemed to be miss-described on the tap list (confused with the oak barrel version, which I'm pretty sure is different and which our server was able to confirm when we asked him to inquire). ~Excellent Moules-Frites...OK, they don't call them that, but definitely get the "SPICY MONK" steamed mussels (Belgian dark ale, andouille sausage, caramelized onions, pimento cheese) and a side of rosemary garlic hand-cut fries...it isn't Brugge, but pretty darn good for Limerick PA. My only suggestion would be to also do a more classic Moules-Frites, with less inventive ingredients (I'm less enamored of the other versions on the menu). Sometimes sticking with a classic is best. Weak: ~The food is decent, and as noted above the mussels/fries are excellent. But whenever I order anything else off the menu, I always tend to feel a bit let down. Not that the food isn't tasty, but it alwasy sounds so much better than it actually turns out to be. Case in point: the special of shrimp étouffée we had for lunch yesterday, which came out decidedly lukewarm and with no discernible cajun spices at all...meh. My steak sandwich (photo) was good, but nothing that I'd drive out of the way for. The food just doesn't live up to the amazing beer selection. If they could just kick the food up a couple more notches, this would be a truly great destination. ETC: A pleasant, cozy environment, with a nice long bar, wood tables, and a small lounge with couches. Sometime they have live music, but I've never been there for that. Apparently it can get very crowded, with a wait to get seated, but we always go early or late. Free Wi-Fi. Easy parking in the lot out front, no tables for more than 6 people, no reservations, and closed Sundays. Conclusion: Worth driving to if you are a real beer geek, but just stick with the Moules-Frites on the menu. If you are a local, of course you are going to TOTALLY LOVE Craft Ale House, because there isn't much else of this caliber in the area. 4 stars on the back of an epic beer selection, good service, nice environment, and decent food. Went to check out this place just after its 1 month anniversary. It is a small, cozy place who's ambiance reminds me a bit of the drafting room in Exton. The bar was full on this Saturday afternoon while the tables were about 1/2 full. The obvious draw is the beer, but the food is not bad as illustrated by the Fire Roasted Tomato Soup, Burger and Braised Short Rib Sandwich we ordered. The burger had a nice smoky crust on it but was served a little beyond the "medium" we had ordered. The hand cut fries and short rib sandwich was awesome. I noticed people at the bar ordering buckets of fries. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable, but the kitchen seemed a bit slow. They let you sample any of the beer you want, which was great help in narrowing down my choices from their superb list. Also took advantage of their 20% discount on carry out 6 pack. They are closed on Sundays but I hope they open for brunch soon...we could use a place like the Drafting Room or Classic Diner in the area. I have to agree with just about every review regarding Craft Ale House. By far, the best selections of beer for 75 miles. I would say they even rival Monks in Philly for beer selections. Second that with a very knowledgeable staff. There's dozens of beers available, they know them each and can pair your meal accordingly. Third, a simple menu. FINALLY, a chef/owner that gets it. Keep the menu small (about twenty items or so) AND DO IT WITH EXCELLENCE. A unique variety of fresh, local ingredients; savory and sweet flavors abound. Only one suggestion; I think the chef should change the menu a bit more often for his regulars. I was there 5 times over the past year (10 month span) and the menu was the same. Although there were some very good specials. I deduct no points for that, it's just a suggestion. Otherwise, the menu is always executed with perfection. As for service, you don't get much more personal. The front and back of house staff make every effort to please. On top of that, there are nights with live music, both open mic (always great participation) and professional. What a treat. The property itself is small, seats about 50-70 and can get a bit tight. They always fill up fast on the usual nights, so try to get there early. If you must wait, then wait. It's worth it. The friendly crowd and staff will keep you entertained. I dont even know where to start, just got take out and basically wasted $60. The tomato bisque looked so revolting I didn't even want to try it, I wasn't sure what was green and chunky floating in it , my boyfriend tried it and said it was horrible. He ordered a burger and got cheese and bacon, both which he was charged extra for , and was not even on the burger. Mother in law got a pot pie , said it was the worst one she's ever eaten, and was upset she paid $10 for it, the crust was served separate and was hard , my crab cake was mediocre , and my son in law said his stomach hurts after eating his sandwich. Where to start? The beer selection is out of this world, and that is just the tap rotation. The bottle selection is about 8 pages of bottled beer from around the world. Any and every style that you can think of. I had Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour. Rare style and very good. That is the type of place this is. It is beer geek heaven. If you are a BCM kind of person, you may want to pre-game before heading in. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The place was pretty full, so the wait was about 20 minutes; however the atmosphere is cozy and inviting making the wait easy. The food selection is ranging from pub food to steak or chicken pot pie. The food was well prepared and tasty. The wait was about 15 minutes for the food. Meanwhile it is easy to slip in another craft ale. This is hands down the best beer selection in the area, and the price and the food are great complements the beer selection. Right off the bat this is my first 5 star rating. The atmosphere is something out of a cozy 1800s carriage house with a fireplace. OK beer later. The food is excellent. This is, by any measure, my favorite place to go for great beer. The food is outstanding as well. A true gem! Gary and his wife are great hosts and do a great job making you feel at home in this place. Craft Ale House is located in Limerick, PA right on Ridge Pike. In fact, I think that if you go another 3 miles north from there (west?) you'll reach the end of Ridge pike... My last visit there was a few weeks ago when my wife had a lot in her agenda and I did not. I spent the afternoon making my trek through Lansdale, Skipack and Limerick with the Craft Ale House the highlight of my crawl. Conscious of the fact that I was driving I gave myself about 2 hours to sample a few brews at the CAH. During my stay I heard about 3 or 4 orders going out for the a black bean soup and decided to try it... Don't let my dad know for he makes a great black bean soup... but the one at the CAH blew me away! The bartenders (and I bet the waiters and waitresses as well) really knew their beer. As I was trying to decide which beer to drink next the bartender asked me about my tastes, and based on those she pulled out some samples for me pointing at one sample in particular which I left for last. She read me perfectly. The last sample was indeed the one I liked the most. Impressed by her knowledge of beers I asked her about it. She told me that everyone in the restaurant is trained regularly on the beers being served. The only drawback? It is a drive. I'm over this place. Two years ago I would've given Craft five stars. But ever since they opened up Fork and Ale they've really gone downhill. We used to go to Craft 4 to 6 times a month because we loved it so much. The buttermilk tenders however are still the best thing on their menu, except one time we got the tiniest scraps of chicken that I couldn't believe they actually served to us. All the best bartenders have moved on, and the food is very inconsistent now, you just never know what you're going to get. Your burger could be raw, or it could be burnt to a crisp. The prices have steadily gone up, the portions get smaller and the quality keeps going down. If you're going to check it out anyway, go for the beer just don't go hungry. read more
