We are not from around here and asked a local where to get a nice dinner. He said to go to The Trappe Tavern. Very cool building and the vibe was busy and a little loud, but it was Friday night at 7. Being a big fan of Prime Rib and seeing how it was featured on the menu, I decided to go with a "shaved" prime rib sandwich, fries, and coleslaw. Huge disappointment. It was one 1/4 inch thick slice of prime rib that had been heated on a flat top, full of fat that I had to pull off/out, and barely edible if it weren't for the cooper sharp cheese on it. Don't call it shaved prime rib. It isn't. My bad for not asking the barely attentive server about it before I ordered it. He asked how everything was, but walked away before we could answer. My husband said his pizza steak hoagie was delicious, and it looked like it, piled high with meat. My sandwich looked like a kids meal in comparison. This is regular bar with a kitchen, but their food is not regular bar food. I enjoyed this place very much. I was able to watch the game, talk to locals, and there was a free trivia game for anyone interested in playing. The place is large and there is a large outdoor space too. It was very comfortable. Unfortunately since our group doesn't drink we got to actually taste the food. First my group ordered a chips and queso appetizer with no jalapeño. Jalapeños were on the chips which normally doesn't bother me I'll still eat them, however the jalapeños that were on them were sour and very old. Waitress took 20+ minutes to appear, and when she did she was bringing the main meals so the appetizer was pointless at this point. The main meals didn't get any better. One member of our group ordered tortellini in which came out overcooked and was basically mushy. My crab cakes that I ordered were burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside and were also mush. I sent those back and didn't get anything else. I also tried some of my girlfriend's fries, and they also tasted like the oil used to cook them was old. I love prime rib. I went the Trappe Tavern three days ago with my wife and friend. When I called to make reservations, the gentlemen informed me that they serve prime rib seven days a week. It's actually hard to find restaurants that serve it even one day a week. We were escorted to our booth by the hostess. The menu was extensive but we went there specifically for prime rib. Our order came with a house salad which was very large. ( they need to serve it on a larger plate.) it was tasty. They charged extra for blue cheese dressing. I ordered the prime rib rare plus. It was delivered as ordered the meat was tasty but just a little tough. The baked potato was excellent and it came with sour cream and butter. The zucchini and squash was delicious. I am giving the Trappe Tavern four stars. My prime rib was fourteen ounces and cost $27. It was worth every penny plus. If you enjoy a good prime rib please take the time to visit Trappe Tavern. The ladies had wine with their meal. It was a nice pour and reasonably priced. I will return! read more

I've been going here for 25 years This was not the usual great experience Ordered a Buffalo chicken wrap ( yes is off menu) but basically it's their grilled buffalo chicken sandwich on a wrap Got a a chicken wrap with no buffalo sauce or blue cheese that was chicken steak meat finely diced Asked the server to fix it please. The onion soup was very good! But we asked our server if the ribs were moist "fall off the bone" and was told yes. They were terrible. Very dried out. Could hardly chew them off the bone and couldn't finish them. We've been there numerous times before and never had a bad meal, so was very disappointed. The mushrooms, onions and peppers were cooked well together and mixed well with the meat. The cheese. The cheese was the weak link. It needed a touch more cheese and to be melted through the meat and extras better. Bite discipline had to be employed. The first/top bite was a touch dry. Dave and his staff didn't hesitate and jumped right in to accommodate everyone. His staff was friendly and quick to help. I was very disappointed with the bar staff this week. Sat at the bar and only once did a bartender serve me. Nobody bothered to ask me if I wanted another beer or if I wanted to see a menu. I know I have a mouth and could have asked, but why did 3 bartenders not bother to ask me? Isn't that their job. Went there on a Sunday. Sat at the front bar with my girlfriend. I didnt get the Bartenders name but he was extremely annoying. He smashed empty beer bottles in the recycling. He constantly whistled while he was working. Seemed bothered to be there and brought a negative vibe to the entire bar. I would suggest have him do dishes. Arrived at 6:15 and told the wait would be 25 min. 45 min later (7:00) we got our table and immediately placed our order. At 7:45 we noted other customers who'd arrived after us were leaving with their leftovers. When I confronted the waitress about the delay she provided some lame excuse about the lobster orders delaying my sandwich. I informed her that this was not my problem. An older gentleman, presumably a manager, also provided some lame excuses. I asked what we owed for our drink orders and he comped them. This did not make up for a 6:15 arrival with no food by 8:00.
