I first heard about Fitzroy & Herrera through local influencers' The Richmond Experience on Instagram a couple weeks ago. As soon as I saw their photos, I knew I had to haul myself the few blocks over from my apartment to their new window-service bakery to try them.
The window is on Altamont near Clay Street in Scott's Addition. You can order in advance on their website for a specific timeslot, or you can order at the window itself. If you order online, you have ten minutes to complete your selection.
I tried a mix from their menu, including the prosciutto sandwich, the olive bread, shortbread trio, double chocolate chewy cookies, and fruit streusel pastry (which happened to be blackberry).
All of them were really well done and clearly made with high quality ingredients. The mozzarella in the prosciutto sandwich was probably my favorite of everything, and the bread was incredible. The fruit pastry was also a standout of the bunch...but really I don't think you could go wrong with anything they offer.
Pickup was a breeze, and they offer a couple outdoor tables if you want to eat there also. It's primary a to-go operation though. Friendly service too. It's right in my neighborhood, so I'll for sure be back soon. Can't wait to see how the menu evolves over time! read more
