This was one of my favorite places to be while my guy and I stayed at The Greektown Hotel. It was my third time in Michigan and my second time at Fishbone's during our visit. The first time here we met up with some friends and had a couple shots. The second time there my guy and I had drinks and ordered food. We ordered the Hot Wings Thibodeaux Hot and spicy or sweet and sticky wings. We got half and half! They were fire.We also ordered New Orleans Bar-B-Que Shrimp Half dozen shrimp prepared in a spicy butter herb sauce. Delicious for dipping bread. They where also fire. But most important part is that the second visit here on our last night at The Greektown hotel is that we went in to order food and ended up not getting the wings. We ordered $80 worth of food...don't judge us,but I wanted my wings so I called Fishbone's and a staff named "Eric" answered the phone and knew we where "The Bears Fans" and offered to bring over our food. We thought that was wonderful and that was great customer service!!! With so many amazing places to dine in Detroit, why this establishment still attracts diners is beyond me! It has to be on past reputation only because there is nothing appealing about the food anymore. I'm sad to say that I dined there with friends on Saturday and was so disappointed. The crab cakes tasted like mushy tuna. The calamari was nothing but batter. No flavor. Our server was rude and forgetful. I understand that people have bad days. But she was out of line. If you want food that tastes like it was frozen and warmed in a microwave or if you like Applebee's but with downtown prices ...go on in to Fishbones. Great place with a variety of options. We started with the fried mushrooms and they were delicious. No heavy breading and not greasy. I had the fish n chips and my coworker had the Delmonico steak. The food was good however the cole slaw was bland and the roasted potatoes were not seasoned. Otherwise I would have given this place a 5. Came back and was delighted again - this place has the best seafood in Greektown. Again I have never been to a restaurant that has both sushi and Creole but Fishbone's delivers on both with good quality. This time my sushi selection was Sea Urchin which is very hard to find, so I always get it when I can. It's an acquired taste which most people can't get past the looks, but this was really good and of course fresh. My entree was Crawfish Etouffe which was just as good as I've had in New Orleans. So we attended Fishbones on New Years Day. I was sick New Year's Eve so, but Fishbones was open New Years Day.They closed early at 9:00 though, but I was just glad it was open. We had some calamari, which was delicious. Also had pasta but can't remember the name. It had lobster, shrimp, and crawfish in it. It was delicious. The service was ok. You could tell the servers were over it, but hey that's not the customers fault. For the ambiance I prefer the Fishbone on Jefferson. I personally love Fishbones. The food is pretty good, the menu is huge and the drinks are fairly strong. The staff is generally friendly although sometimes it takes a minute to get attention. I love the pasta orleans, it's soooo good. The sushi is just ok, nothing great but it kills the craving. I love that they bring warm rolls to the table, not just cold stale bread. First, I called to make reservations, great no problem. The day before Easter they called for me to email my credit card information for a deposit of $105 for 5 adults, 2 kids under 5. I went up there later, waiting like 15-20 min to leave a deposit. Easter, we waited probably 10-1in for seating which was ready. This place is the WORSE! The prices are ridiculous. I ordered the small steak, one cocktail, upgraded my side to asparagus and ordered an add on of shrimp. They brought me three grilled shrimped and charged me $15.00 for THREE shrimp! Also they never told me the price prior to bringing me the bill. I called the manager and she was rude and unapologetic. Visited for lunch with a small group and our experience was mixed at best. At noon the restaurant was oddly nearly empty. The downtown location is a nice large building and the decor is pleasant enough but it was odd to see this huge restaurant empty with more staff than customers. We were seated near the main door for some reason (after entering in a different doorway) and could feel a cold draft from outside the entire time. Plenty of other tables were open that we could have been seated at. The restaurant has a massive menu. The back half is all sushi and its rather unwieldy. The menu is all over the place, not sure if it's a sushi, creole or seafood themed restaurant. They had an entire huge separate lunch menu but our sever gave us the dinner menu as well for some reason. I don't believe they mentioned any specials or had any recommendations of what to order I ordered an ice tea and it was served with a 1/4 of a dried out lemon which was strange. I ordered the seafood gumbo soup as an appetizer and enjoyed it enough that I was inspired me to try the jambalaya for my main course. The jambalaya was sadly very underwhelming. If you have had good jambalaya the Fishbone's version was rice with tomato sauce and some shrimp tossed in... My coworker ordered what he thought was rack of lamb and was served a lamb gyro in a pita. Besides not being what he was expecting he said it was very underwhelming as well. On the plus side our server was quick and attentive but the letdowns with the food are hard to overlook. The prices for the lunch menu were fair but glancing at the dinner menu I thought they seemed a bit high. Hard to recommend based on the lunch experience. The restaurant has a reputation as more of a nightclub with a large speaker system in the ceiling very apparent. Based on the layout I can see how that side of the restaurant is successful. I've been here in the past and the food gets better every time. I was here during the North American international Auto Show and it was super busy. Waited in a slow restaurant for 5-10 mins before we were greeted at the table, our waitress Deja showed up with an airpod in her ear, then we asked the waitress what tequila they had in house she suggested Titos. we ordered the saganaki and the MANAGER brought out our app, with a mask, which was fine, but then lit the cheese and took her mask down to BLOW ON OUR CHEESE!!! It was my first time here. I had hit a good lick on the penny machine at Greektown Casino so I decided to treat myself. I had Seafood Gumbo which was good but its made cheaply for what it cost. It said it had shrimp and crab meat but all I saw was two baby shrimps. I ordered a cup size and trust me you really only getting half a cup because they put the rice in first not really worth the 7.00 it cost but it was good. I also ordered a Chicken Club Sandwich it's was pretty good it's hard to mess that up I guess. They use fried chicken breast meat seasoned to perfection and crispy bacon. The service was really good and quick oh I had a glass of the best Mascato 9.00 for 6 ounces pretty pricey but very good wine. Actually I enjoyed my experience here I just gotta learn what to order to make what I spend worth what I'm paying. I saw a lot of pasta dishes that looked yummy next time I'll try those. The place was very clean and I sat near the kitchen and watched how they prepare some of the food a d I was observing if they were being clean or not I would have liked to see the servers wearing gloves as they put the last minute touches on the food like when they put lemon wedges on plates or glasses and putting grated Parmesan cheese on the food. They use tongs and spoons but a glove would be nice to . Again I had a good experience my food was delicious! I'm giving this place 2 stars because the food was subpar at best. My wife and i went for my birthday. The French bread reminded me of a bagel and was only good when you put a overwhelming amount of butter on it. Our drinks were made pretty well. And our alligator voodoo was delicious. The problem comes in with our main course. My wife got the crawfish ettoufee, and I got the chicken and sausage jambalaya. Nothing about these dishes said creole, Louisiana, Cajun, none of it. It was flavorful, but not Cajun flavor. My wife is from Louisiana so we had high expectations and we're sorely disappointed. Her meal she said was almost too sweet. They never disappoint! The staff is always so nice and professional. We have always been seated immediately and a basket of warm bread with garlic butter delivered to the table. I ordered the crawfish etouffee which was so incredibly good I couldn't stop eating it. I have also had the sushi, great quality. The food comes out fast and they have a full bar with a great selection of mixed drinks. Pasta, burgers, seafood, you name it they always deliver GOOD food. So I really love this location but tonight was just an uncomfortable experience. I ordered a drink and had a mild allergic reaction due to them not describing a drink correctly. The bartender (a middle aged black woman with a bun) was super kind and tried to help while my friend raced to get me some Benadryl. The manager spoke to me and I reassured him that I would be alright. I took the medication, everything was fine and we continued our evening. The bartender remade my drink and my friend tasted it to make sure I could enjoy it. The check came and we asked to speak to the manager. We wanted to make sure the rest of the menu was labeled properly so no one else would have an experience like the one I had. Granted my reaction was mild, but it could've been worse had my sensitivity been stronger. While I think it's odd to charge someone for a drink after it causes a reaction, I wasn't opposed to paying because I drank the drink that she remade for me. The bartender who had previously been so kind and helpful immediately grew agitated and aggressive. I have no idea why because we had absolutely no issue with her. She was so kind and helpful prior to us asking to speak to the manager. So she proceeds to explain to us, in an outrageously nasty tone, that there was no need to speak to him because she handled everything already. While we spoke to the manager, she was making snide remarks and mocking noises. It honestly even sounded like she was talking about us to the couple next to us. Again, no one had any issue with her service or her attitude so I'm genuinely confused about why she responded like that, but I am 100% turned off to this location. We simply wanted to give constructive criticism to the manager to ensure this didn't happen again and that they didn't have an issue that resulted in something more serious than someone needing Benadryl. read more

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, my dad and I visited Fishbones in Downtown Detroit, where we told by management prior to arriving, that they could accommodate our reservation and we would need to place a deposit to secure the spot. My dad and I assured her we would be there early the next day. Upon arriving, an older gentleman who may have also been a manager as well approached us asking if we needed help. When we explained why we were there, he immediately went to get Julia Wolfdurham, the supposed General Manager, who pretty much treated us like peasants beneath her instead of valuable customers who have been dining for years! She was not apologetic, remorseful, or even made an attempt to try to be helpful due to the fact that two previous conversations were had with staff and management as well as an email sent directly to her! She made it like we were making it all up and even started to walk away from us as we were still talking to her! Rude and unprofessional isn't even the words but it was definitely at its best if I'd ever experienced it! Being a business owner myself, I would be utterly disappointed if my GM were making my customers feel the way my father and I felt standing there! However even through all the disrespect and frustration, I am happy to say we were able to find a REAL professional General Manager who knows how to handle his customers and their concerns as well as treat people with dignity and respect! He happily booked my mom's birthday dinner! I feel sad for this location and its business owner if this is how she consistently mistreat customers and make them feel! We were made to feel as we were an interruption and bother to her! It honestly saddens me to leave such a negative review, however, after my last two visits to Fishbones I will never return stemming from terrible customer service from bother servers and management. About two weeks ago I came in for sushi with two other people and sat at the sushi bar. I was under the impression that I could order directly from the cook at the bar but was directed towards a server. The server we got seemed to be annoyed by having to serve us and suggested that we order from the sushi chef despite being told otherwise. His entire demeanor was extremely rude and when I went to pay for my bill he misplaced my credit card and didn't return it. After searching the area for a good 10-15 minutes I was told it was still in the credit card reader and nothing had happened. I spoke to a manager by the name of Leroy who was extremely dry, unapologetic and again had a rude demeanor. I was told next time that I come in he would take care of me. I was wrong. Today I came back in attempt to see if things would be better. I gave Leroy a call ahead of time and told him I would be there and was presented with the same dry tone as before. Once there, instead of coming to talk to me he sent his server back to the table several times to play the telephone game. Eventually he came out and told me he wouldn't be able to take care of me as previously said. Without a fight, I simply paid my bill and will never return again. I've been going to this place for years, especially as a Detroit native. However, I can't deal with crappy customer service. Food wasn't cooked all the way. The only good thing to be honest was their Caribbean breeze. My appetizer was cold. My wife's food was pink on the inside. I don't think I will be revisiting this place. And the sundae was already melted when it was served and was 90% caramel. The coleslaw had was just cabbage and nothing else. The fries were hard and burnt. They didn't even get the ranch right because it tasted like water. Worst of all the water tasted like dish soap. One of the things I've grown accustomed to is being able to sit at the bar and eat for just about any establishment we go to. When we first walked in to Fishbones, all the seats were about empty but the bars were packed! What?!? We left, but then I'm not that picky about it, I can sit at a table so we went back in and we're going to get a high top but spots opened at the bar so we sat there. It was 5pm and there were usually two or three guys behind the bar so service was fine. Overall, Fishbone's has a pretty good ambiance, with the two bars, plenty of tables and a sushi bar as well. I don't know what you might expect at prime time, but aside from the wedding crowd it wasn't obnoxiously busy. They've got a decent selection of drafts and decent drinks. Nothing I think to say wow but perfectly serviceable. Where I think they stood out was the food. We had the catfish beignets and the Sushi appetizer. The catfish was great - well cooked but not over-cooked, with that distinct catfish taste and a nice dipping sauce. Even the complimentary rolls were good, piping hot with whipped butter. For me, though, it was the sushi. These were fresh rolls with nothing but rice and the fish on top. The whitefish and the shrimp (cooked) were good, but the tuna and the salmon were simply outstanding. I loved just having the fish with nothing to distract from it. A little soy and wasabi and it was awesome. I'm not a sushi addict so I might not be an expert, but it was fresh and clean and tasted wonderful. Come to Fishbone's and try the rolls! read more

My review is based off of the room service they provide for the adjacent hotel, the Atheneum, where we recently stayed for our anniversary. It was not a good experience. 1) It arrived lukewarm at best 2) There was only one coffee mug 3) They forgot the syrup for French toast 4) There was no toast The man who delivered it promised to return with an extra mug and syrup. He did. 25 minutes later. And was completely unapologetic because "he had other things to do." I'm not super picky but for $47, I do not want to eat a cold breakfast alone. We did call room service to complain (in a nice way) and the lady hung up on my husband. Gloves OFF. So we mentioned the situation at check out, and were directed to speak with Julie, the manager at Fishbones. Let me tell you who did not care. Julie.
