No umbrellas for sunny days, so bring a hat. Was a line of about 10 folks in front of us and seems normal for this place. Order at the counter but it moved fast with two order takers on a Saturday at prime lunch time. They bring the food to you. Nice menu with many options and lots of beers and wines. Fish tacos were enjoyed by my daughter who is a foodie. Wife had the poke bowl who also said very good but a little bit spicy. She also knows her poke so thats two for two... And me. Dungeonus crab sandwich. I am a crab head. I cant get enough especially Dungy Crab! Only a mere 49 dollars! OMG you say. So did I . But you only go round once in life so if its a love of something you just say f- it and not worry about the cost. Unless of course it sucked then I would complain my ass off. But "Fish" gets the "Crab" to be the King of the sea! So right off, this is the single most expensive sandwich I have ever had in my long life. Times they are a changing. Out of season in California these were fresh ( they said ) and from Oregon. So maybe that extra mileage is upping the cost. I dont care. I think they know Crab hounds will pay no matter what. Came with fries which were fine but I dont think fresh. Didn't matter. But the crab was indeed special. Served on a freshly butter toasted acme French roll. The crab was simply dressed with melted butter and chives. Just as it should be. If you have real fresh crab you want to taste that sweet meat. To many places put the crab in a dressing or mix with other things and that makes a crab ( and me) crabby/unhappy. The roll was perfect because it was simple, light, not dense and not heavily flavored like sourdough that would overpower the tender vittles of crab meat. There were some nice big size pieces of tender crab and smaller ones. Not a fishy bite among them! And a decent amount on the sandwich. The roll was just a bit to thick for the amount of crab. It actually would have been awesome if they would have "pressed" it down on a grill or panini press. Twas my only complaint. But did that stop me from eating the whole thing and drooling about it later? Hells to crab king no! This really was the near perfect crab sandwich for me. And I have had many. So go. Came to Sausalito/Marin for the day to get away from the valley smoke. On our way back we wanted to eat seafood and found Fish on Yelp- it was one of the few reasonably priced seafood joints so we decided to check it out. We got there around 4pm with little to no wait. It did get busier by the time we left. Parking is super convenient and the atmosphere is awesome since you're on the harbor. They have ample patio dining and they have the menu posted up outside and each party goes in 1 at a time to order at the counter. Staff were very helpful and everyone was wearing masks and gloves and all were good about social distancing and sanitizing. Both of us got fish and chips, but next time I would like to try their clam pasta or crab sandwich. It was a little pricey for fish and chips ($22) but I was expecting to pay since it's Sausalito. Expect a line during peak meal hours, but the line moves pretty quickly, so be patient! While you're waiting, peruse the menu and look at the plethora of oceanic offerings. They also have some more unconventional items like fish sandwiches, and they also have one burger if you're not into fish. (But seriously, why would you come to a place called Fish if you don't like to eat fish?) They also have a fish of the day and a special menu on the board above the counter where they put their catches of the day. That's where our eyes were attracted to. The fish of the day was fresh halibut, and there was an item called a fish basket on their special menu, which included a variety of items including fish, clams, sausage, cobs of corn, and potatoes. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I don't know if I'd do the fish basket again because it wasn't a whole lot of seafood for the price that we paid; I think we ate more corn and potatoes than anything else. With so many reviews and a great rating how can you go bad?!?! Well, it definitely was not my favorite. First the lady that took our order was very rude and made us feel rushed, even though there is no full menu in the restaurant except at the ordering counter. So we were looking to see what we wanted, and she kept asking what do you want. Mind you we had looked at it for approximately 30seconds. We ordered the crab roll. It was good, the salad paired with it was not. Our kids got the fish and chips which looked amazing, however the heavy crusting lacked flavor. I did like the tarter sauce as well. I've been going to this place since it opened roughly 10 years ago. There's always a place for a casual seafood place located waterside. If you're looking to enjoy some nice weather, eating seafood, and in a relaxed atmosphere, this is a good spot. Plus, nice beer selection. All that said, I think this place has declined over time. (1) The place markets itself as "local and sustainable" but its lost its commitment to that ethos. The menu this holiday weekend included lobster from Maine and fish & chips using Alaskan cod. They used to be strict with the "local" philosophy, but not any more. (2) They used to do really interesting things with vegetables -- like you almost could have come just for the vegetable sides -- but they've pared that back considerably. (3) worst ketchup (for the fries) I've ever had. My wife took one look at it and said "is that tomato paste?" Just about tasted like it. It was NOT ketchup. No need to get fancy here where Heinz has pretty much perfected ketchup. Whatever they squeezed onto my plate was just thick, goopy and gross. (4) They've replaced the fries in the fish & chips with potato wedges. Fries here used to be pretty darned good. Now, they're average, at best. (5) What really gives me the sense that these guys have lost some of their focus is "the fish market," a little section of the restaurant where they have some fish on ice that, in theory, you can buy by the pound. Saw some trout. Some cod. Some salmon... and right next to the salmon was a commercially sealed bag of lobster meat. That's right, they are using lobster meat that was apparently cooked and sealed elsewhere and shipped to the restaurant. It just screams "we're mailing it in." The atmosphere is still great. The beer selection is still good. And, if you just order a piece of fish with lowered ambitions for what the restaurant is trying to accomplish, you can still enjoy yourself. But I used to think of this as a four-star place, but I can't go above three any longer. read more

On arriving approx 1.00pm we were faced with a queue out of the door, across the outdoor seating yard and into the parking lot (guess 50 people) so nearly bailed.. However, we waited 5 mins to see how fast it cleared and within 15 minutes we were up at the counter and slobbering... Prices were a little knee trembling based so we wondered if this was a trendy locational eatery with a captive audience and mediocre food (aka tourist trap)!... We both ended up having mussels in white wine with a slab of baguette and a spoon. I am honestly no noob to the mussels and order wherever and whenever I see it on the menu.. I would go as far as suggesting that my last meal will most likely consist of this as a main, starter escargot and sweet creme brûlée.. but that's another story.. Anyhow, net net, they were certainly ones of the best and likely THE best I have had which was a fantastic surprise !.. This left wifey and I wondering what excuse we can have to make to 75mile trip again and wonder if the rest of the menu was as good and 'no wonder there were queues out the door.. if you live anywhere near and haven't tried the restaurant then you are a fool, we will most certainly return ! read more

This eatery, and yes I said it eatery has found a way to serve a good meal and insure that everyone is COVID safe. This institution is well populated. To order you stand in a 30 minute line. This is a Disney ride well worth the wait. The food is phenomenal. I had the Fish and Chips, while my wife had the Bay Areas version of a Lobster Roll, which means.... Dungeness Crab Roll! There is no after thought with their cuisine. Even the coleslaw is well proportioned. The Fish and Chips were not greasy and the condiments were amazing. I am not a Ketchup fan....at all. I've been here twice now, and I must say I really enjoy coming here - especially on a fog-less day. Yes, it can get very busy. The restaurant is located right on the water and the food is great, which makes for a popular destination. We love their fish and chips. You have the option of Alaskan Cod (more pricey) or cornmeal crumble oysters. I'm not the biggest oyster fan, but I'm a good sport (and my boyfriend is highly persuasive) so I tried one of his and I didn't mind it (aka not chewy or sandy). You order the food first, then find a table to sit (either indoors or outdoors), and the servers will find you to deliver the food! The outside dining is spacious, and has nice views of the water, be beware of the hungry birds, as they'll swoop in any chance they can get!! My friends and I shared the oysters, the poke appetizer, and I got the fish of the day (sea bass) with pasta, and a Moscow Mule. The appetizers were delicious and the sea bass and pasta were amazing and satisfying! The Moscow Mule was also delicious as well! Fish is a great spot to stop at in Sausalito.. right off the water.... their assortment of seafood favs are outstanding! It was hard to make a decision as we saw people's orders arrive at their tables! We tried to gauge what items were the most popular and still had decisions when we finally ordered. We decided on some unique items including Portuguese Red Chowder A Ribeira-styled red chowder made with tomatoes, fresh linguica, clams, madeira, smoked paprika, cilantro and local organic Sausalito Springs watercress. My friends got halibut and rainbow trout from their fish of the day options which allows you to either make it as linguine pasta or salad. They both chose linguine pasta and while the fish was cooked very well, the pasta itself was meh. I thought the pasta was kinda grainy and undercooked which was not a great texture. So much love for this place. Seriously, the whole time I was out in Sausalito, every time someone suggested dining out, I'd immediately respond, "what about Fish?" Everything we tried was delicious - the white chowder, the red chowder, the fish & chips, the smoked black cod sandwich special, the vongole pasta, the fried sardine special, all the raw oysters we ate - everything. The prices are what you'd expect of touristy Sausalito, but they do have a commitment to sustainability, and the quality of the product justifies the price for me. Service is always friendly, efficient, and very patient with families toting small kids, there's plentiful seating both indoors and out on the dock overlooking the marina, and parking is not at all an issue. The outdoors picnic benches were usually occupied, even on weekdays, but people were pretty nice about sharing tables. The selection of beer and wine is a bit small but decently priced. And let's be real, the star of the show here is the seafood. I ended up eating at Fish at least four or five times during my short stay, and there were still items I wanted to try. Wanted to see if recommendations for this local seafood restaurant was all that. This restaurant is off of Rodeo exit going northbound on 101 in Sausalito. Pretty straightforward drive to this place through some residential neighborhoods. When I did arrive, I did find a misleading sign for the restaurant parking; instead of taking the first sign to go into the parking lot, take the next entrance going into the pier and to the right where there is abundant parking nearer the front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a typical fish fry place where you order and pay then they will bring the order to you at your table from the plastic numbered tent you place on your table. Now finally, the food, ordered fish & chips and fish tacos. The order should have been called chips and fish, three tiny fish portions were more like nugget size, but were they delicious and fresh, the batter was real nice and crunchy. The chips alone were phenomenal, they were wedge cut potatoes but wow, real real crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The chips alone are worth the trip for. It came with a tiny serving of tartar sauce, oh so good but craving for more and a minuscule wedge of lemon. They had utensils and ketchup, hot sauces and Three monks malt vinegar, much better than heintz but not by much. The fish tacos came with a pickled slaw, cabbage, carrots and jalapeño, the slaw was a little on the jalapeño heavy side and pretty spicy. Now for the cost evaluation, this place is very overpriced for what you receive, but then again if you wanted a real nice atmosphere on the pier, you came to the right place. It was very picturesque environment by the pier with indoor and outdoor seating. I would make another trip here but aware this place is extremely pricey.
