Now this is the first time I and my family have tried this establishment and also our first time in Solana Beach. The dining area is inviting and cozy. Pricing may shock some as they are thinking this is just a "Fish and Chip" store. But it's more than that. Much more. It would be best classified as a Cal-Mex Fish and Chips. Those who enjoy seafood will like this establishment. The offerings goes from traditional to, sandwiches, wraps, plate and salads, like the Kale Salads. They also offer Craft Soda, Beer and Wine. Okay, so my experience at Fish District went from 4 stars to no stars. I walked over there today because I was craving a poke bowl so I ordered the salmon poke bowl with spicy sauce. I walked back to my office fast so that I could dig into the bowl. As I took my first few bites, I didn't feel satisfied. The fish did not taste very fresh today. I noticed that there were pieces of salmon that had the gray layer that should have been chopped off completely. That gray layer has a very powerful taste that is not very pleasant. I ended up slicing some of it off and continued to eat but I just couldn't take another bite without wanting to regurgitate. Sadly, I could not even finish half of the bowl. I dumped it in the garbage. I spent $8 on a lunch bowl that did not satisfy my hunger and will probably leave me not feeling so well in the next few hours. Just an update: the manager sent me a message and was very apologetic which I really appreciate. I'll probably give this place another try once they work out their kinks in the kitchen. read more

This place is so disappointing. Paid $12 for the Baja wrap (which oddly has a different recipe than the location in Torrey Hills) and I got a soggy, half wrapped burrito with all the ingredients falling out. I can't even eat it because the wrap is so wet the tortilla is a gooey gross texture. What a waste of money. This is completely different from what I've always gotten at the other location. This place is amazing. It's like a teriyaki place except it's for fresh fish. I usually get the ginger salmon kale bowl and rice. It's so good and very healthy. Ive also had the Tuna Poki bowl which is also very good. Great place great service. The staff is super nice. The price is about $12 dollars for the salmon bowl and can easily feed you and a young child. Great place! read more

We decided to have lunch here while waiting for my new tires to be installed. The inside does not allow dogs, but there are a couple of tables outside to enjoy the food and still hang with your pup. The service is nice. The menu looks all tempting. Fish and chips: almost as good as England in terms of crispiness of the fish and fries. But I felt the fish is much fresher than other places that offer fish and chips here in SD. The fries are too thick for my taste. I like skinny, matchstick fries better. The mushroom portobello fries are juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I would come to fish district to get these alone as a takeaway dinner next time! The ceviche is good. I wish the serving was bigger, but then the price would be inflated too I suppose. It is a nice starter. The salmon and kale salad was good. I felt like I could make this at home. I was impressed with the freshness of the kale. The salmon was fresh but I could have just bought salmon at Costco and made it at home. This is a really cozy and nice fish restaurant in the Solana Centre. They have a wide selection of seafood offerings. I chose the classic fish and chips, ahi with chips with asparagus spears on the side. I really liked the blueberry soda as well which I don't think I've seen anywhere before. The Manager, Luis, took my order, made fine suggestions and is very cordial and professional. The fish and chips is delicious and large with 3 fish pieces and tasty fries. After visiting family in Solana Beach, my husband and I were borderline hangry so I Yelped the area for somewhere to eat. Fish District was nearby and fish tacos sounded good, so we decided to give it a go. It was 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was completely empty - normally I'd be a little put off but the reviews were good so we risked it anyway. The guy at the cashier, sadly the "face" of Fish District that day, seemed bothered by our mere existence. He barely greeted us when we walked in, although we were the only ones there, and wasn't helpful at all with suggesting menu items even though we mentioned we had never been there before. So, we awkwardly stood at the register trying to sort out he menu while Mr. Sunshine yawned and fidgeted with things at the register. After we had ordered and were waiting for our food, a coworker relieved him of his post at the register and he sat in the dining area grinning like a fool at his cellphone. Ahhh, kids. I ordered: 1 baja battered cod taco & 1 coastal cod taco He ordered: 1 coastal ahi tuna, 1 baja mahi-mahi & 1 coastal cod taco I was super skeptical about my husband's ahi taco, as it came seared and therefore very rare in the center. He downed it and had nothing negative to report later, so all good! Everything else was much more familiar to me - basic battered cod and mahi-mahi with different fixings. I truly wasn't fond of the "baja" style. The tomato concoction they added tasted like a pasta sauce, ultimately making it taste like an Italian fish taco. Maybe it's just not my style. The "coastal" style was light and fresh, and I loved the mango chutney! 5 tacos set us back just over $21, which isn't too expensive but I wasn't stuffed afterwards, either. I just read a review on google and found it so ridiculous! Who is this guy? I come here frequently and enjoy great food and 2 glasses of Chardonnay. I actually can't believe they only charge $8. A glass where most restaurants are at least $11. And up! Not only is the food amazing every time but I come here for the service too. Christian and Sawyer are so great with the customers. What a delightful surprise! The wife and I were searching for somewhere to get a bite and stumbled onto this place. I had my doubts - seafood restaurant in a shopping mall? - but she has The Unerring Nose For The Best Food Everywhere, she said "this is the joint" and boy was she on the money. As usual. My family was staying in Del Mar and we wanted an easy, healthy option for dinner. This was our first experience with Fish District and we were not disappointed. While sitting on the beach, I used the order online for pickup option on the restaurant's website. It was easy to navigate and the menu options are succinct and clear. Everything was ready by the time I drove down to pick it up. My wife and son had fish and chips and they loved it. It held up well in the to go containers. Btw, everything was packaged nicely and I like the fact they ask if need utensils. I had a grilled salmon salad in bed of diced kale, almond slivers, julienned apples and a nice citrus vinaigrette. Dirty Tables But Good Food. One member of our party had fish and chips that were excellent. Another had the Ahi tuna that was also very good. We also had the fried portobello mushrooms that were outstanding. The sauces for the fries and fish were unique and varied. Overall we thought the food was excellent. I hadn't know that you had to ask for it when you ordered. I went back to the counter and asked if I could get it on my tuna melt or just on the side and I would add it. The gal at the register could NOT figure out how to charge me the 25¢ for the upgrade. Did she give me the lettuce and tomato anyways? NO. We had seen the good reviews of this place and we wanted to stop by, but last time, frankly, we drove right past because we were looking for a more traditional restaurant. But, we're glad we tried again this time...here is what we noticed: - It's one of those places where you order at the counter, get a number, and then wait for it to be delivered to your table. The seating is ok...a few booths, some high tops, and some tables (including some outside)...they're functional, not very plush, but they work. Think of this joint as a cross between a fast food place and a sit down restaurant. - The food was really good. I ordered the 3 piece fish & chips, my wife got the blackened ahi bowl and my son got the salmon poke bowl...none of us really wanted to share any of our meals with anyone else as we really liked what we had chosen. And, we felt like the prices were very reasonable. - We didn't partake this time, but it is a plus that you can get a beer while dining. Bottom line: Great local option for fish, and related seafood. Blackened Ahi bowl. $13. Not cheap. Top 3/4 of an inch of a not particularly big bowl, (wide brimmed at the top, but shallow, designed to look bigger than it actually is) was delicious. Nice ahi. But there was only a Dusting greens atop two inches of rice. And because of the misleading shape of the bowl, that was not even a lot of rice. And how much does rice ? About a nickel? Overall, a disappointing ripoff. Frankly, I rather object to the causal-ness of thievery. It insinuates a customer is easily duped. And that scamming is oK. That's disrespectful.
