Our foursome reserved an outdoor table on Fish Boon's pleasant patio and were looking forward to some sashimi along with several other items that sounded great on the menu. What we ordered: * Egg Rolls: Delicious. Lightly fried and very tasty. * Chicken Hibachi: They accidentally brought steak instead of chicken. The diner didn't want to wait for a replacement and accepted the steak, but found it chewy and didn't enjoy it as much. * BBQ Ribs: Tender, tasty, and a bit salty. They initially brought miso soup instead of the included salad, but corrected it quickly. * Nijugo Sashimi Platter: Fresh and very good. The salmon in particular stood out. * Seaweed Salad: Good. * Sushi Rice Bowl (side): Good. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. There were two service mix-ups: the miso soup instead of salad (which was quickly resolved) and the hibachi steak instead of chicken. The diner chose not to wait for a replacement but found the steak somewhat chewy. That said, the sashimi was fresh and tasty, the BBQ ribs were tender and flavorful, and everyone liked the egg rolls. We'd be happy to return.

Beautiful restaurant, awesome decor, wonderful servers, thoughtful lighting, and fun atmosphere. We've heard sooo much about Fish Boon and couldn't wait to try it. We sat at a cute table and were lucky to get a seat without a reservation (it was 5pm on a Sat). The table had a cute personal light on it - I need a couple of these! My absolute favorite thing about the night was the little purse holder they put next to my chair (see my pic). It was SUPER cute and SO smart! It's the little things! First came out a dinner salad. It was just lettuce and a drizzle of dressing - no carrots, no slivered beets etc ... it was ok. Funny, I usually LOVE the starter salads at sushi restaurants. This was just underwhelming. We got the veggie tempura for a starter - I was impressed at the amount on the plate as well as all the different vegetables. They were really yummy. I chose the Miso Black Cod ($33), which the waiter says was a great choice and really good. He also said it takes a bit longer to prepare (to me, that means 'Get ready, this is gunna be GOOD!') Well, I was actually pretty disappointed, especially for the price (and time). I think my expectations were too high. On the good side: the texture was really really lush (melted in your mouth), but it had no taste (even with the lemon wedge) and I found myself dipping it in soy sauce/wasabi over and over just to get my taste buds a rise. It came on top of four asparagus, which definitely needed more salt (and char marks?) as well. They were just 'eh'. The cubed potatoes had no flavor AT ALL. I was super bummed - I ate 2 then stopped, just not tasty. So sad. My husband had the steak teriyaki. It was very impressive looking with literally a pile of juicy steak atop a mound of cabbage. I had one piece of his and was quite disappointed - it didn't have much flavor and had me looking for the salt (only soy sauce on the table). I didn't have another piece, wasn't worth the calories unfortunately. For dessert we had the Mango Strawberry Cake. It was very cute and pretty tasty. We also got the Fried Ice Cream. I had seen a picture on Yelp - it was the green tea ice cream but ours came out just vanilla. Oh my gosh, it was SO disappointing . The ice cream had no vanilla flavor, it was really blah. And Fried Ice Cream should be freshly FRIED (warm). This was most likely fried hours ago and kept in the freezer. The crust was chilled and didn't have any taste. We ended up eating the ice cream and leaving the 'fried' part. I'm probably tainted by the Mexican fried ice cream, which is always to-die-for. Maybe the Japanese version is just something I don't like. Now I know. So basically, my husband and I have been wanting to come here for weeks and I've heard nothing but great things about this place. The restaurant's always full and I've known a couple friends who have said they've had fantastic food here. I'm not sure what happened tonight and I'm so sad that I didn't like it as much as I was expecting. I love tasty, flavorFUL food and I just felt like the dishes we had just didn't meet our expectations. Fish Boone needs to up the ante. They needed more salt, more flavoring and more love. Again, this is just my experience ONE time eating here. Who knows, if I go back, I'll get totally different dishes and maybe I'll have a completely different experience. Fingers crossed.

Fish bones...the ones we didn't accidentally eat...

We've been here a few times since the soft opening, and overall it has usually been a very good experience in terms of food quality, service, and ambiance. That's why yesterday was a bit disappointing. The service felt less attentive than usual, the miso soup arrived after the sushi, and the Miso Cod had quite a few bones in it. We mentioned the cod issue to our server twice, and while she said she would speak to the manager, there was never an apology or any attempt to address the situation. Eventually, the check arrived as if nothing had happened. We didn't want to penalize the staff and still left our usual gratuity, but we walked away disappointed.

Del Mar ($16.95) - This signature roll came with spicy tuna, avocado, shrimp tempura, and salmon with their "boon sauce." The highlight was the salmon, which practically melted in my mouth and had such great flavor. Everything in this roll went so well together. If you're looking for spicier, I'd go with the El Diablo Crunch or Hot Lips next time.

I had the chirashi bowl along with some fatty tuna nigiri. The chirashi bowl not only looked amazing, but tasted just as good. It came with nice, thick slices of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and albacore, plus shrimp and some roe. All of the fish was incredibly fresh and high quality. Tamago is usually an afterthought, but even that was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the chirashi bowl so much that my son and I came back the very next night. This is now our go to spot for sushi in Carlsbad.

Jolie is awesome !!!!! if you happen to be in Carlsbad and are looking for spectacular sushi, you absolutely have this come to this fish spoon here the fish Lyons from Japan replied from New Zealand. I've never seen so many different fish from so many different parts of the world they're so good and if you really want to grade experience, please come here. Enjoy it with your family and don't forget to serve.

Fish Boon is a great place for fresh and yummy sushi. We came in on a weekday later in the day where there wasn't many parties inside. The interior is very nice and loved the decorations. The food and drinks were great but the service was super slow. We were tucked in a corner so our server probably did not see us but we made eye contact many times and he never made the effort to come and check in. We asked for the check and it took 10 minutes until I decided to stand up and pay for it at the front desk. They also charged us 10 dollars for a bottle of water which they never mentioned. The karage was delicious and crispy. The batter was light and chicken juicy. They had many options for rolls as well. The ones we chose had great quality in the fish and loved the spin they put on them. I would probably come back only for takeout. The service was unbearably slow and it felt like they were purposely ignoring us only. There were other parties being taken care of multiple times while we were just waiting.

This little gem in Carlsbad is awesome! The fish quality is excellent, whether it's nigiri-style sushi or cooked dishes. I had the nigiri sushi, and my companion enjoyed the baked salmon - everything was delicious! The service was exceptional. They also have outdoor seating, but we chose to sit inside. Kudos to Victoria for making our first visit extraordinary!

I came here for my birthday lunch. They had my name and happy birthday sign on our table when we arrived. The ladies who served us were very welcoming, pleasant, helpful and attentive. The chefs behind the bar were incredible food artists. The decorations were very modern Japanese. You know it's a good Japanese restaurant when you see Japanese clientele. I loved that! I had a refreshing pink cocktail with cranberry juice in it and my husband got a Mimosa with a frozen rose shaped orange juice. His drink had a side of champagne to add when he needs more. Both drinks were delicious and works of art. We ordered... Toro Tartare Albacore carpaccio Fantasy roll Crispy rice with Spicy Tuna Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. Not only were they visually appealing, they were ALL little bites of Heaven. I'm so glad that this restaurant is close to home. I will definitely be back regularly. For food this perfect, it wasn't overpriced like other famous restaurants which serve you less food at a higher price. The restrooms were clean. They do have seating outside as well. So when the weather cools down, we'll most likely be back with our dog after his walk at the park down the street. If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, you must try this restaurant. You won't regret it!

Walked in on a Thursday evening and it was fairly busy. I didn't have reservations so we sat at the bar. The service was great since I walked in I was greeted and sat right away. The staff were attentive and very friendly. I ordered the Ramen and gyoza for appetizer. Both were great!

My husband and I had dinner here on a Saturday evening. We didn't have reservations, but we came at a good time to be able to sit at the counter. The seats were plush like little love seats. I was given a small seat for my backpack purse. (I've only had this happen to me in Vegas once.) We ordered miso soup, the Gami, Fantasy, and Torrey Pines, but got the Del Mar instead of the Torrey Pines. (We realized it when we looked at the menu to order a second one and I had photos I took of our order to compare). They corrected the error. Ironically, the Del Mar was a delicious error and was our favorite. Service was excellent and food came quickly (which is a good thing since the place got packed rather quickly so they got to turn tables fast). Ambiance was nice. The noise was average, but you're able to take to the person you came with and they can hear you. There's also outdoor seating. A party of 2 to 4 seems to be the best for the seating. Parking was busy, but we managed to find parking by Sprouts/CVS which isn't far. Tip: make reservations if you can before going.

There is an absolute clear difference when management is off for the night. Food was poorly made. Unfortunately, this becomes the norm with many restaurants today. I personally believe the bad ratings actually happen during the time when real leadership is not around. read more

It's my second time here and we just love it! The fish is amazing quality, the staff is incredible, and the ambience is great. What more could you want!? If you want fresh sushi in a cool vibe this is the place to go! I used to really only be a cooked sushi kind of person but after being introduced to this place, it's the only place I'll go for fresh sushi. My favorites are Tuna Tostados and the Wagyu roll. The decor adds an upscale and inviting atmosphere. The service is always impeccable. read more

Wow! I do not think I will be eating sushi anywhere else! This was so amazingly fresh, literally ALL of the fish melts like butter. The freshest of fresh! We started with the garlic edamame and Tuna Tostada, which was amazing. The garlic edamame sauce wash perfect. Then we ordered 4 rolls. I really loved the flavor of the Padre Roll, all protein, tons of fish....no skimping here. We also had the Del Mar, Yellowtail mania and King Salmon. All explosions of flavors. Was this way too much food for us and our daughter, yes....but we didn't care we wanted to try them all for our first time. We also found it cute that there was a heart post-it note on our table that said "Hi Jamie" when we got there. There was also a man singing some old school songs which was enjoyable! Go! read more

The restaurant is pretty small, but it makes the vibes even more intimate and cozy. Our host and waiter were great and so sweet. When we got sat, they explained the menu and made great recommendations that we ended up taking. Now for the food, it was amazing. They paid attention to the little details, and eating it felt like a roller coaster going up. There's different flavors throughout eating it, from beginning to end that was just getting better. Fish Boon was just ok. Service was slow. The sushi was decent, but I've had much better. My son didn't care for the Tonkatsu Ramen. The cucumber salad was lacking in flavor. This place is an ok option if you live in Bressi and want something close, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Probably won't be back unless we are eating with someone who really wants to try it. read more

Let me start by saying I have had a lot of sushi in my life. I've been fortunate enough to eat Sushi all over the country, and even in Japan. Accordingly, I've had average bad sushi, average sushi, good sushi and even great sushi. Then, I had dinner at Fish Boon, and I experienced a whole other level of sushi. Excellent, even fantastic sushi. Everything about this places screams excellence, from the service and the no-nonsense environment to the food. The sushi here is top-notch-fresh beyond belief, above and beyond generous portions and flavors that are so refreshing, because everything is done to highlight the freshness of the fish. I cannot say enough about this place. We don't live in California, but will make this place our first stop every time we visit. Do yourselves a favor and have a meal here. You will not be disappointed! read more

We love Fish Boon and have been going regularly since they opened. The quality of the fish is top notch, so anything you order will be good. Any of the standard nigiri will be good just because the fish is tasty. But they have some unique items we love, including the Toro tartare, which comes on a tempura shiso leaf. I've been to Fish Boon twice now. I have very mixed feelings. The first time I went I did enjoy the apps and sushi but thought the table was incredibly small and in a terrible location. We didn't have a reservation so we just took it since we wanted to try this place out but it was literally at the end of the hall towards the bathroom. They shouldn't have a table there. Another concern I had was the fact that I got an ice tea and had it refilled a few times and was charged like $5 for each refill. Um seriously? I brought this up to the waiter and was just told that was the policy. Sorry but I really had no idea I'd be $15 deep in nestea. We were gifted some gift cards so we came back again. This time I was looking forward to the gyoza and some rolls we had the last time but to my surprise they were only offering a valentines menu for days following valentines. We did not go on Valentines specifically to avoid this. This abridged menu did not have any of the items we wanted and I asked if we could still order them and we could not. We ordered some drinks and an app and a few sushi rolls and they all came out at the exact same time. In hindsight I wish I had ordered just the drinks, then just the app and then just the entrees so we didn't feel rushed. While I appreciate a speedy meal when I'm at a fast food place, I definitely expect that a higher end restaurant understands the importance of pacing the meal so the guests aren't in and out in 35 minutes. Literally from when we sat down till when we were done it was 35 minutes and we had spent $120. Although I do think the quality of the food is good I won't return. There are too many other good restaurants out there that can hit all the marks for $120. I don't have a problem spending money but if I'm eating out I want a nice dinner with a predictable menu and relaxing dining experience. read more

The first time I had this, I ordered it and had it delivered on door dash. The food was good, so I decided to recently go in person and was extremely disappointed in the service. My issue was that there was a private event inside going on at the time and the owner and staff completely disregarded everyone outside and provided a complete lack of professionalism and customer service by only caring about the group inside. The one time we saw our waitress the whole night, she gave the table next to us our food which sat for 10 minutes before the table could tell the waitress it wasn't theirs and the waitress literally grabbed it and tried handing it to us. That was unequivocally the worst service I have dealt with. read more

Always in search of quality sushi. I'm in Carlsbad and all we have is tomoyama which is fine. However I've tried F Boon a few times now and daaaang the fish is soo fresh! If u know Sushi u know what I mean!!! Also, the rice is always cooked perfect. Not too dry (Krave-please stop using old rice) or flavored wrong (Costco-I think they add sugar??? Grooosss). I'm going again tonight w some friends! Not cheap but understandable! read more

My party of six had an incredible dining experience here! From start to finish, everything was flawless. Kellen, our server, was phenomenal--attentive, friendly, and on top of every detail. We ordered a variety of sushi, and not only did every order come out perfectly, but the fish quality was absolutely top-notch. Unfortunately never got to eat the food ! I was seated by myself at the sushi Bar But after ordering my drink and after several apologies for the wait , he brought it but never came back for my order and then told me i was supposed to order from the sushi chef making the sushi !? Huh ? I said you told me that you were going to be back to take my order so how would i know that ? Please do better as will not be back ! Too many other places to spend my hard earned money! Just apologize ! Please don't make me feel like I was in the wrong ! Have a better system ! Amazing sushi and awesome atmosphere. The owner Ed put a lot of love into this place. Really great service and very attentive, clean and pristine inside and the patio is awesome, It's very beautifully decorated and just what Bressi Ranch needed, a high quality sushi restaurant. The rolls are made with top end ingredients. Highly reccomend. Try the mimosa with frozen rose orange juice. Highly reccomend. read more
