My order was ready (yay) but we were discouraged from sitting outside (boo), so I didn't check what was in the bag until I was back at work. What I ordered was a 1/2 sandwich (Monterey Club) and 1/2 salad (Honey Pecan w extra dressing). What I got was the sandwich, yes, but a plain green salad with no dressing and a container of soup. Solid breakfast brunch place. First time here and had a great experience. The presentation of the food is fantastic. Only reason for four stars instead of five: I have a bit reservation about the smoked salmon omelette--it's not the typical smoked salmon you get elsewhere, not thin slices but more like canned tuna texture. Definitely try to call ahead or expect a line at peak times. The day we came their check in system went down but they were able to turn tables around pretty quickly. I find their food overpriced and under seasoned but if you are willing to spend you can have a nice full breakfast experience. We had a wonderful time for our lunch today. I think our party of four thoroughly enjoyed their food and atmosphere at this First Watch location. The service was excellent from the time we entered the restaurant until we departed. Maitre d' greeted us very cheerfully and took us to a booth. The wait staff promptly and pleasantly welcomed us and quickly took drink orders. It appeared she really enjoyed her job. By the time she came back with our drinks, we were ready to order our food. There was a separate menu for the seasonal (summer) specials. One of our lunch mates ordered one (Hacienda Hash), and he said it was very good. The rest of us ordered from their regular menu. If I were to be very critical, I would improve the side fresh greens (salad). Initially one wasn't dressed enough and had to ask for some extra dressing, but it was just too plain IMHO. It could've had some diced tomato, cucumber, or just something to add more texture or flavors. I think I'm going to forego the side greens (forgetting about being healthy) and stick to some fried potatoes the next time. Also, the onions were a little bit on the tough side because I had a hard time cutting them through with my butter knife. Smoked salmon frittata had the same issue with tough onions. My family dined here for breakfast on my husband's birthday. We have been to other First Watch locations, but this was our first time at this particular one. The restaurant enforced appropriate social distancing measures and kept the dining areas clean. It was relatively empty at 9am. Food was hot and delicious, fairly quick to come out, and served in generous portions. I got the Belgian Waffle, my hubs enjoyed the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, kids got donuts and the bacon and egg kids' meal, and we shared the Million-Dollar Bacon. More than enough food quantity-wise, and the quality was worth the price. Service was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and very patient with our children. Restrooms were acceptable. The coffee itself is fine, what isn't fine is the terrible "creamers" they have on the table. This is Pennsylvania, the land of fresh dairy and pig farms, at least provide fresh half and half or something. To circumvent this, and comply with my dietary restrictions, I asked for fresh heavy cream. What restaurant doesn't stock heavy cream for various dishes? And I didn't mind paying extra. The waitress, who I'm not sure was even old enough to drink coffee, was completely clueless and just kept bringing out the fake creamers telling me it was half and half. As far as a "healthy" option here - The quinoa bowl has awful tasting dried tomatoes and many of them. Mother's Day was a hectic time to try this new location. The nose level was high. Since I was dining alone, I was seated right away. It did take about twenty minutes to place my order and about the same for my order to arrive. I ordered cheese grits, which I live for breakfast. The grits were not the creamy consistency I prefer at home. I'm not sure if the grits are baked vs. simmering. I added some whole milk and salt. This is one of my new favorite local breakfast spots so I will return and try a different entree. Turkey sausage and eggs were good. This seems to be a very popular spot in the area and I've often seen lines on the weekend to get a table. Today is Wednesday, and I was happy to see that there were many women eating solo. I ordered the half salad/cup of soup which was ready in ten minutes which was great since I was calling in my order from the parking lot! The food is always good but the service is sometimes lacking even though there seems to be plenty of people running around. When we went to pay the older lady who was at the register got a "ding" on her cell phone and proceeded to look at it for a good 15-20 seconds before taking our check to pay. I like the restaurant setup because it is clean and the tables are nicely spaced out. It has a homey rustic feel which is nice. However, their servers and food is never amazing. My server this time was very abrupt and impatient. She seemed like she was in a rush to get everywhere. The food is good but never very flavorful. The best thing on my plate was a the preserve that goes on the toast. However, I had to wipe off the large slab of butter before putting the preserve on it. I had heard great things about this brunch/lunch chain, and was originally excited when it came to Gateway - I wanted to be adventurous, so I brought 5 of my friends in to try it out! Sadly, a mistake :( Atmosphere: I recommend downloading / using the app, especially on busier brunch days. They don't take reservations, but you can add yourself to the waitlist. Inside is quite open, medium noise level, very high ceilings. It feels very spacious. Servers were kind, but also seemed way too busy/potentially overworked; we had to flag ours down a few times to ask for water. Food wait time: This was frustrating - food took in total, an hour for everything to come out. The restaurant wasn't packed either. We also got our food before another couple, who were seated before us, and they looked incredibly annoyed (I don't know how long they'd been waiting, and I felt bad; yikes). And the table's food didn't all come out at once - 3 of my friends got their food, and we waited another 15-20 minutes for everything else to come out. Food: I have critiques for a few, since we ordered an assortment. This area was probably the most disappointing - #1. Egg benedicts are a mistake. The poached eggs are so inconsistent, as 3 of my friends ordered egg benedicts. Never again. Not only was the visual presentation rough, the majority of the eggs benedicts didn't have any eggs whites, some were too thoroughly poached, some weren't poached at all... some barely had any actual egg on them. #2. Avocado toast: My friend and I both ordered this. Some bits just had clear salt chunks on them / were WAY too salty. The toast was mediocre. The eggs that they came with were cold; same with my friends' order. Overall food: Honestly, the only thing I found tolerable were the potatoes. And the ketchup, which came in a bottle. The eggs benedicts look nothing like their photos - so sad. Overall: 1/5 - again, the only thing I'd come here for is to eat their potatoes, but I can get those potatoes at other places too. I usually don't get out here too often, but last week I had to run some errands. I don't know when First Watch came in, but it came in where Outback Steak House used to be. I am not a meat and potato type of person so I was a bit intrigued to see "healthish" restaurant here. Interior is very open with semi open kitchen. I initially liked the open space concept (seems like more and more places are following this design model), but as soon as we were seated I quickly realized the noise level (ie music, conversations from other customers, and dishes/utensils clattering). Some people may not be bothered by all these noises, but I felt like I had to talk so loud to be heard and it got tiring. Our server was a little interesting (made me feel a bit uncomfortable), however, he did his job so I cannot truly complain about this. The food took a bit longer to come out than other brunch places, and I was mildly irritated, most likely from being hangry. Once the food finally arrived the food was enjoyable. I would like to try other locations to just compare, but I probably may not go back to the Wayne location since it's not too convenient for me. If you are in the area I do recommend this place if you are looking for some healthy alternatives. read more

This was my first time at one of these restaurants. I came here for brunch because of a recommendation from a friend. My whole family and I enjoyed our meals very much. I ordered off of the special menu and got the summer crab omelet. I was surprised how loaded it was with real crab meat. It was stuffed. It also had corn in it that blended perfectly with the crab. It was covered in hollandaise sauce, and who doesn't enjoy something covered in well done hollandaise sauce? The side salad tasted great, and the toast it came with was a good quality and dense whole grain bread. I didn't pay attention to what everyone else got at the table except for my mother who also ordered off the special menu and got the Acai bowl. I took my mom to an Acai place in California, and she often talked about how she wished she could recreate that in Pennsylvania. I haven't seen many options, but she said it tasted great at First Watch, and the peanut butter toast it came with was the perfect accompaniment. First Watch is a great place to go with a family and have a delicious and affordable meal without having that standardization that a lot of chains seem to carry with them. read more

I am familiar with First Watch as I've been to the Villanova location and really enjoyed it. This location just recently opened and I understand the busy brunch crowd on a weekend. The hostess stated a wait time of 45-60 mins but we only had to wait 20 mins. As we got to our table, I noticed only 2 coffee mugs and 2 water glasses. Thought that was unusual considering it was a table for 4 as other tables were set up the same way. My 3 star review is regarding the service. The waitress was very friendly but not too attentive. She provided our drinks but didn't give out straws when someone ordered the kale tonic fresh juice or OJ. So we had to wait another 5 mins as she returned to another table to flag her down. Also didn't know her name since she didn't introduce herself. It must've been our fault for assuming water for the table but there was also only 2 glasses for 4 people. The food did come out in a timely manner, waitress did ask if everything came out they way we wanted. It wasn't significantly busy so I'm not sure why our waitress continued to take more than 5-10 mins between tables. The food is great, a good brunch spot in the gateway shopping center.
