A girlfriend asked me to breakfast at First Watch today. I didn't particularly want to go because I thought there would be a long line and that it was just another chain restaurant. Glad I went. The wait was only about fifteen minutes on a holiday. We were greeted nicely and seated. Our server, Michelle, was also our greeter. She was friendly and professional and efficient. She brought a pot of delicious coffee and iced water. We both ordered a classic. I asked for crispy bacon. The food was delivered in a short time by a very pleasant young man. It was hot and tasty and my bacon was crisp. I wasn't especially hungry but I ate everything on my plate, even tasting my gf's jelly and spreading it on the thick slices of buttered toast. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is pleasant. I will go back for breakfast or lunch. read more

Our first time here was a great experience, towards the end... So, at the beginning it seems that our food was misplaced and the breakfast was taking FOREVER to come. Someone from the kitchen came out and apologized and wave us a free bacon with maple syrup while we waited. Ordered breakfast from Uber Eats, everything was cold but that's not the restaurant's fault I guess. The kids meal blueberry pancake was large but way over cooked, the biscuits and gravy were not good at all. Hard as a rock biscuits and flavorless gravy. The container of gravy wasn't enough for both halves of the hard biscuit. I'll pass on this place, there are too many excellent breakfast places in RVA and surrounding areas. read more

This actually hurts to write. I have only ever eaten breakfast at First Watch and it's always been amazing. Today is the day that broke me. I ordered take out, 2 salads and 2 sandwiches. The amount of salad bs price was ridiculous. It was a very small salad with a very high price. I ordered the supposed chopped avocado salad and it was not chopped, their was few chicken pieces and I think I only found 2 slices of avocado. 2 monte Cristo sandwiches that literally tastes like I made time at home. I was out $52 for that and could not eat but half the sandwich. I threw away my fake chopped salad because it did not taste good at all. I will stick to the breakfast. read more

But I had heard great things about the Million Dollar Bacon, and wanted to try it. It was mid-afternoon on Tuesday. I was promptly seated and given a menu. Scan. Scan. Scan. The Works Omelet caught my eye. Ham, Bacon, Sausage, House-roasted Crimini Mushrooms, Onions and Tomatoes with Cheddar and Monterey Jack. Topped with all-natural Sour Cream. Yum! So I ordered to go, The Works Omelet ($11.49) and Million Dollar Bacon ($5.49). Ten minutes later I was headed out the door with my food. At home I sampled the Million Dollar Bacon first. That is some good bacon! I've had better, and I wouldn't call it Million Dollar Bacon (although it is overpriced.) And it is merely bacon fried with Brown Sugar. Ok, I went to First Watch in Florida about a year ago and just wasn't blown away. When I was craving breakfast food recently, I decided to try again. Plus, that new purple juice that they've been advertising was calling my name. I was leaving Maymont and headed back to this side of town with my toddler in tow, who I knew was going to fall asleep during the drive. I needed something that had curbside takeout so that I didn't have to carry a sleeping almost-3-year-old out of the car to pick up food. Bingo! This location of First Watch fit the bill. I ordered online after looking through the menu a few times. I decided on the Purple Haze drink with The Traditional Breakfast. Babyyyyyy this hit the spot! It smelled and looked so good, I didn't even make it home. I sat in the car and ate it then and there. The eggs were SO fresh, the multigrain toast is bangin', the potatoes were absolute perfection sauteed with onions, and the turkey sausage links were juicy and flavorful. My only gripe is the lack of gluten free options. I would love to see a gluten free pancake or waffle on the menu. This is definitely going to be my happy place! read more

Had the worst experience imaginable at this location and would highly suggest considering other options before visiting. My vegetarian girlfriend and I visited this location last Saturday an hour before closing and were treated as second class customers. We ordered the seasonal million dollar hash after waiting 15 mins to be seated. Upon placing our order we emphasized to our server that my girlfriend is vegetarian and cannot have any meat products in her entree so she must remove the bacon from her hash. 30 mins later we receive our entrees with piles of arugula covering the entire bowl. After shifting through the arugula we notice that our bowls are missing all the key ingredients, the sweet potatoes, the cheese, the mushrooms and my bowl was even missing the bacon. We both received bowls full of arugula, eggs and potatoes...that's it. After notifying both the server and the manager, the server explains to us that the kitchen is out of sweet potatoes (would've been nice to know this upon ordering). Nonetheless we tried to make a horrible dining service experience, worth our time as we were starving at this point we decided to eat our bare bowls until they brought out the rest of the ingredients...which they did INDIVIDUALLY. So we basically ended up creating our own million dollar hashes. Following finally receiving all of the ingredients, my girlfriend finds BACON and bacon grease at the bottom of her bowl! At this point we felt like our entire dining experience was sabotaged by the server, the kitchen staff and the manager. So we continued to express ourselves, until my girlfriend got nauseous and had to run out of the restaurant to throw up in the parking lot. The manager told us that we didn't have to pay for the food and he would give us gift cards or whatever but this all felt like a slap to the face. To make matters worse, while my girlfriend was throwing up in the parking lot, I ran inside to get a bottle of sparking water from the manager to ease her stomach, which he did, while not even issuing an official apology. In all, I understand that providing service within the last hour of business is not ideal for anyone in the customer service industry but AT THE LEAST, customers deserve to receive exceptional service at all times. We will not be back, mediocre food alongside piss poor service. read more

Food looks better than it tastes. The pancake was a nice size however it taste like it was made with Jiffy cornbread mix. It was cold and a little overcooked. The shrimp and grits were so disappointing. The grits had absolutely no flavor. All of the flavor was in the shrimp. I has maybe 2 bites and couldn't finish it was so bland. I'm from the the south so I know good shrimp and grits, this didn't even come close. My boyfriend had the omelette so I can't say how it tasted but he enjoys omelettes from iHOP and said this one was "OK" so that should tell you all you need to know. The service was subpar. Started off good but after we received our food we didn't see him again. Didn't stop by to see if we needed anything, if we were satisfied with the food...nothing. We went the day after Xmas, and the place was busy. We put our name on a wait list ahead of time, but still took a while to be seated. We ordered right away and our food took almost an hour to arrive... cold. Butter sat on the waffles unmelted. My omelet was mildly warm, cheese already congealed (and barely there), the bacon cold. They could not handle the rush, the food suffered. It was also freezing inside and SO LOUD. They have done nothing to help with sound absorption. A table of 6 could not converse. We went to family and friends soft opening. Everyone was following covid regulations and social distancing rules were enforced. It's a brand new restaurant across from target on broad street. The crab avocado toast was fresh and very healthy. Kale tonic was a bit too sweet for me. I would prefer less apple in my juice. This place seems to do a great business, and now I know why! I finally made it in on a weekend for brunch and was impressed with the food and the atmosphere. Pro Tip: Weekends are packed. They do not take reservations but you can jump on the "wait list" on their website before you arrive to skip the line. The restaurant has its own private parking lot off W Broad Street so you don't need to worry about the hassle of finding a spot. Both the lot and the restaurant are also both fully wheelchair accessible. I went with one other person on a Saturday afternoon and it was a 30 minute wait, so we sat on the benches outside until we were called. Inside the restaurant is really cute; what Chip and Joanna would call "industrial farmhouse." The warm wood floors, booths, and accents pair well with the exposed ceilings and metal pendant lights. The menu had so many delicious sounding options and included dietary markers and calorie information for those who are interested. I chose the Avocado Toast which may sound like a meager meal but it was anything but! I have no photo evidence because I devoured every bite. The crusty whole grain bread was the perfect vehicle for at least one full avocado worth of spread, plus olive oil and chunky salt. It also came with two perfectly cooked eggs. It was just the right amount of food; not too heavy, but also left me satisfied for the entire day. Food came out quickly and was served with a smile, and our waitress offered to split the check before we went to pay at the register. This was my first time eating at First Watch and I completely understand why they had such a long wait (1-2 hrs). Thankfully I was able to join the line from the website before arriving. We sat in booth seating at the front. It was extremely busy in there and they seemed a bit understaffed so it took a while to get our orders in and get our food. I had the morning meditation fresh juice and it was really good. It tasted more like ginger than anything else. Two of my friends got the kale tonic which they enjoyed. The pancakes are huge so I'm glad that I only ordered one. I got the carrot cake and pecan one. It was pretty sweet on its own and didn't really need syrup. The power wrap was a healthier but still filling option. Overall, I would come back and order those items again. read more

Pro Tip: Don't go on Sunday unless you are prepared to wait. First Watch is breakfast and brunch food (But without the desserts and such other such establishments keep for the brunch crowd.) They serve mixed drinks, which aren't the best, but are tolerable. This place--at every location I've been to--is typically BUSY, so whoever is waiting on you may forget stuff; Be forgiving, as they are clearly overloaded. My main complaint about this place is ordering eggs over easy; Anyone who has these knows that they need to get plated and given to the customer ASAP. More than once, my eggs sat too long before being brought over. I realize many people blame the kitchen, but I know what an overcooked egg looks like. These were NOT over cooked, they just sat waiting for too long. I never send food back unless the order is TOTALLY wrong, but it makes for a disappointing breakfast. The upside is this place is focused on what they do well, so unlike other places with huge menus, they have a smaller menu and what they do, they do WELL. Don't snub the side of greens with lemon juice dressing--these are FANTASTIC! If you like your bacon more crispy, I suggest telling them as much. Many places assume you do not want crisp bacon (???) and the only way I found to get it, is to request it. For the eggs that sit too long and the loosey-goosey bacon, I subtracted one star. The only downside aside the rare egg dish sitting too long is that this place can be loud due to how popular it is. It's much better to go on a week day. read more

Here working long term doing the faux bois at the historic old city hall renovation and staying up the street. Walked from my hotel to the dennys on the corner and thankfully they were understaffed so I walked out and got in my rental car to come here. Went with the frittata rustica and two blueberry pancakes (despite the servers warning about how big they were lol). Everything was fantastic.
