SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS First Watch 1665 S Dobson Rd Mesa, AZ 85202 Companion and I decided to go here to try their new Honey Butter Biscuit Bites. Companion ordered a bowl of oatmeal and I just wanted some hot tea to go with the biscuits. In the South, biscuits are a staple on the table, fresh and steaming hot. Often served with lots of real butter and sometimes for a treat either some honey or some sorghum molasses. I was all set to really enjoy my breakfast. Our server arrived with my biscuits and a small dish of berry compote. Also included was a small dollop of salted honey butter. Unfortunately, First Watch does not know of the rule that the only biscuit that is a good biscuit is a freshly made one. I was served biscuits that were hard and barely warm. They were way past their prime and should have made it to the bin. When I informed the server to take them back to the kitchen because they were old and stale, I was informed that they feel their biscuits are good for two days and these had been made the day before. To not serve fresh food to a guest is a slap in the face, especially when that food is supposed to be freshly baked biscuits. Absolutely enjoyed my experience from start to finish! It was my birthday on Tuesday, so I wanted to use my reward for breakfast after not being able to make it on my actual birthday-day! So, I tried to sit outside, but it was a little too chilly, so I decided to see about moving inside, I thought it would've been a big deal, but Caitlin was very accommodating and I was able to move inside and enjoy my BEC, which stands for bacon, egg, and cheese! And wow! This sandwich! I see why my server can't wait until this sandwich comes back on the menu. Really liked the juice, Morning Meditation with Immunity Boost. Coffee and Mimosa is a good start too. The menu offers your basic breakfast options and some less than usual. The best, iyam, are the Avocado Toast because they put a good amount of smashed avocado on top of the toast and it's served with two eggs cooked to your liking. I also like the Trifecta with the waffle, two eggs, choice of meat, waffle. Assorted goodness. They also have delicious Salads and really tasty Sandwiches. Service varies, but typically we have had good to exceptional service. Sadly our more recent visit was not up to par. The young lady taking care of our table seemed distracted. Items ordered lagged, when it did arrive it was not cooked as specifically requested. Item was sent back and replacement came less desirable than the one delivered previously. When it came time to drop the check she asked me and my friend if we had coffee. By the process of elimination AND by glancing at the table she could've easily seen three coffee cups, placed in front of those that did order and were drinking coffee. Their Yelp shows that dogs are allowed, and past reviews on Google reviews even discuss customers bringing their dogs to this location. We were turned away before even making it to the door by a hostess with the manager right behind her for backup. We were told only service dogs are allowed, even on the patio. The host that seated me as a single diner seemed bothered that I asked for a booth at a time in the morning that there were only six to eight people in the entire restaurant. He seated me at a single-sided booth which was fine. The server was amazing. She was attentive to every need and proactive in filling drinks and making offers that provided an exceptional dining experience. My first time in Mesa location! I've been to the Tempe ASU first watch for many times. Both locations have good food and nice vibe. Sometimes Tempe location was slow with the food serving tho but I still like to go. It's been a long time since I have been to first watch. When I opened their menu, I was surprised by their price--after the egg price went up and all the other places raised their prices, first watch still kept their very reasonably priced menu. I believe it was around 12-13 for this huge plate of omelette. And the food is as good as before. The omelette is fluffy and filled with bacon and avocado. The bread is buttered in the kitchen. I tried my very best but I still couldn't finish the whole plate. I will always recommend a casual brunch with friends at first watch! I have always loved First Watch but I had to leave a raving review about my experience this morning! My boyfriend and I stopped in and were quickly sat in a nice booth with a beautiful view! Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We ordered the Double Bacon Parmesan Hash which is an exclusive holiday menu items and the Biscuits and Gravy. I got an Orange Juice which is by far the best OJ I've had at a restaurant! Sweet with just the right amount of tart. The Hash was super flavorful, with such good texture from the onion, spinach, and crispy bacon! The parmesan was cheesy enough for a slight cheese pull and the cream sauce and lemon drizzle brightened the whole dish. BEST BREAKFAST EVER! The biscuits were soft and fluffy, smothered in the warmest gravy with just the right amount of sausage for flavor. They state pets are welcome, I walked up with my baby and dog and was welcomed to porch sitting with one other person on the porch. We sat all the way to the back corner to be courteous since I had my dog. I was brought menus, drinks and had been spoken to by 3 different severs before the manager came out asking if my dog is a service dog. I state no he is not and she goes on to say they only welcome service animals. I inform her it states online that they welcome animals with no specific requirements of them being service related. She goes on to tell me that can't be right she will check but we can't be there with the dog.
