On a Friday morning this venue is a hot spot with a 20-30 minute wait depending on your party size. The host was warm and friendly and managed the check-in process like a pro. They do not take reservations but you can check in online ahead and confirm your spot when you arrive. The waitress was a bit in a rush as she asked us three times what we wanted before we were actually ready to order our food but she was friendly. The food was decent. I'm expecting, I was hungry and I love breakfast food so those things worked in their favor but I don't know that the food was anything I couldn't have enjoyed at any other breakfast place. Decided to try out this breakfast spot while out Laurel. Delicious should be the name We got the Million Dollar Bacon ( my 7 yr old says it's not worth the name lol) hubby gave it 10/10 We ordered the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes 10/10 hubby says they are close in competition with Cheescake Factory's Lemon Ricotta. We chose this place due to it was multi grain batter and more on the healthy side. Eating bad but good. Farm to table makes a difference. Loved the options of meat choice, Turkey, chicken or pork which allowed us to stay on the healthy side. They didn't get my order correct. When they tried a second time they still failed to meet me where I was. The order was simple. Over easy eggs. White cooks yellow runny- each time they came out hard. And of course, when you have are forced to make a do-over the rest of your food gets cold. That's is the challenge and both times the cooks failed to meet my basic request. The shrimp and grits that my sister ordered was very bland and flavorless. Grits were stif textured with wilted vegetables mixed in. Was not attractive at all. Had a great time at brunch here at First Watch! I came with my family one Sunday and we ordered an assortment of the food items on the menu. I ordered the smoked salmon frittata which was good, but I really enjoyed their French toast. My only complaint is that the home fries were a bit uncooked. None of us were able to enjoy them because they were a bit hard. It was towards the closing time, but we still expected quality food. After a nice workout my cousin suggested we go have brunch and boy they didn't disappoint. When we arrived I've immediately noticed a picture of there Spiked Lavender Lemonade and I knew I was going to order it because it looked so refreshing and pretty to the eyes. The atmosphere was nice and laid back and pretty spacious. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu when we asked questions. We started with the Bacon Cheddar Cornbread that came with a topping of sweet butter. The menu selection was pretty big but I ended up getting the Biscuits and gravy that came with a side of well seasoned potatoes and scrambled eggs. I left no crumbs it was that good :) My cousin ordered French Toast with a side of eggs and turkey sausage and my Son ordered the French toast that came with fresh fruit loaded on top with a side of bacon and let me tell you the presentation was beautiful. I don't know about you, but I eat with my eyes first. He also got himself a hot chocolate while me and my cousin both ordered the Spiked Lavender Lemonade, which was so freaking good. Also, you get a free birthday entree email. 12/11/19 update - For this visit on a Wednesday, I tried the Steak and Hash entree for $12.49. It was large and delicious. I'm going to say the one thing that I have yet to see anyone else say, but after sitting here a while and thinking about my 2 experiences here all I can think of saying is "It's okay". I get why people like it, but I don't think that it's because the food is gonna blow you away. It's just really the only healthy option in town. The second time I went I got the "Chickichanga" and it reads as so: Whipped eggs with spicy all-natural white-meat chicken, chorizo sausage, green chilies, Cheddar and Monterey Jack, onions and avocado rolled in a flour tortilla. Topped with Vera Cruz sauce and sour cream. Served with fresh fruit and fresh, seasoned potatoes. That sounds amazing to me, but it really wasn't all that. All those bold flavors in theory should make for a really flavorful dish, but the chicken was bland, the chorizo wasn't much better, and there wasn't much of either inside. The best part was getting out and having a guilt free meal. The restaurant itself is really nice on the inside, and it can accommodate a decent size group of people. Our server was very nice, and she stayed on top of everything. Definitely no complaints about the service. I just wasn't overly impressed. The overall consensus from my the group i was with was that the menu made everything sound amazing, but in reality the food was just "okay". read more

The service here sucks.... The staff tried there best to handle the after church crowd to the best of their ability. Apparently, this location is under new management, WOW!!!! The manager never came out to help assist, the manager hid in the back of the restaurant. Sounds like this place needs a new new manager. It took 2 hours to get a cup of coffee.... Breakfast was soo good!! I had the ham and gruyere omelette with potatoes and toast.. I'm used to cubed ham and this omelette had deli ham, which wasn't a problem because it was easy to cut and delicious.. unlike most other places, the potatoes tasted fine without me having to add salt and pepper (although I did). They weren't as bland as some of the breakfast spots I visited recently.. I love whole grain bread so the toast and jelly were amazing, AND there was the right amount of butter on the toast (some places are stingy).. The service was great, but I did not like being given the check while I'm not even midway through my meal. Also, the hot chocolate tasted generic but had a good aftertaste. This trip would've been five stars if not for the hot chocolate and timing of the check, but I would revisit next time I am in the area. read more

First Watch is a health-minded breakfast/lunch restaurant named after the first work shift aboard a ship. So, they are open from 7:00 AM until 2:30 PM every day. There are over 470 locations in the United States. My wife and I usually go to the Bowie location. We visited this location because we were passing through the area and decided to get breakfast. We got the Million Dollar Bacon, Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos, The Works omelet, and coffee. The Million Dollar Bacon comes with 4 slices of hardwood smoked bacon glazed with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne, and maple syrup drizzle. The bacon was thick-cut and fried well, but it wasn't crispy. It was smoky, sweet, and savory. There was a strong maple syrup flavor. We think it would taste better with less syrup. We enjoyed it nonetheless. The Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos had 3 wheat-corn tortillas with scrambled eggs, Cajun chicken, chorizo, Cheddar cheese, and Monterey Jack cheese. They were topped with fresh avocado and housemade pico de gallo. It comes with a side of seasoned black beans. We substituted the seasoned black beans for seasoned potatoes. The chicken and chorizo were moist and somewhat tender. There was no Cajun flavor. There wasn't much meat, but plenty of eggs. The dominant flavor was from the pico de gallo. Overall, it had a tomato, lime, and seasoning flavor. It wasn't hot or spicy. It was decent tasting, but we've had better elsewhere. The seasoned potatoes were good. It came with some ketchup. The Works Omelet had ham, bacon, sausage, roasted Crimini mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes with Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. It was topped with sour cream. It comes with whole grain toast, a natural preserve, and mixed greens salad. We substituted cheesy grits for the salad. The grits were plain tasting and the cheese tasted like a mild cheddar. Some seasoning would have helped. I put some salt in it and that helped a little. The omelet had lots of savory ingredients. It was lacking seasoning also. It was still good tasting, but the Bowie location makes a great omelet. Their coffee was a medium roast with a full-bodied flavor. A rich and smooth coffee with notes of blackberry, toasted nuts, and caramel. It is a single-origin specialty coffee from Huila, Colombia harvested by a group of female farmers dubbed "Mujeres en Café" (Women in Coffee). The coffee is roasted at Royal Cup Coffee & Tea. You can buy a 12 oz bag of their ground coffee. It is called Project Sunrise. The service was attentive, friendly, and polite. The dining room and restrooms were clean. It was very busy on a Saturday at 9:30 AM. We used the waitlist on the First Watch website. We were seated immediately when we got there. Great service and good food. Love this place However the popularity of it has caused massive crowds from open to close. So believe it or not I'm a regular but never checked in, today I decided to check in and place my review . I used a app called "Nowait " this app allows you to get in line before you physically arrive at the location. Considering how long the wait is , it is highly recommended that you used this app or keep your eye out for the community table(strangers sit together ) in the front of the restaurant. I had the best freshly squeezed juice , it is called the morning meditation, it consist of beets , turmeric , ginger and apple. For my entire I had the "trifecta " which is your choice of waffle pancake or French toast paired with eggs and meat of your choice . I had the delicious waffle , with two eggs over medium and for breakfast meat I upgraded my regular bacon to the "millionaire" bacon. Luckily while looking for breakfast spots in Laurel,y dearest Yelp reminded me of this First Watch location along with giving the option to put my name in advance on their online "Live Time" waiting list. I was 14th in line with a 40-45 min wait! By the time I left the house for my 30 mins drive & got to the restaurant we were immediately sat. We started off with refreshing Kale Tonics and Morning Meditations to wash down my Avocado Toast with a side of Million dollar bacon, while my Dad ordered French Toast and cheese grits. Here is a restaurant that features and highlights brunch and seasonal menu options. They also seem to hang their hat on sourcing locally grown ingredients which I find noble. A respectable 3* I determined for First Watch in Laurel. The food is OK. I was very underwhelmed by the mid-level flavor and presentation of their traditional breakfast and brunch menu items including their French toast, omelette, home fries and cheese grits. I was quite disappointed that the French toast simply lacked traditional French toast expectations (sweetness and texture). The same goes for the cheese grits. In my book it's either the cheese grits are good or not and that's primarily because the grits are either have an adequate amount of cheese and seasoning or simply they lacked both ingredients. On this occasion it was the latter. This experience didn't quite impress to the point where I'd consider returning and in part because there's simply too much competition in the DMV for brunch for me to make another round here. Again, not a bad experience however not a top DMV experience for brunch. Give them a try. read more
