    Deluxe French Toast Platter!!!
    Scott E.

Upon suffering fractured ribs from multiple police cars smashing into his own, and then being informed by the AI in his armored, jet-propulsion-equipped, Chevy Tahoe that "DC Metro Police Dispatch shows no units in this area," it is quite possible that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury had second thoughts. What if, instead of asking Agent Maria Hill to come to DC in three hours under "Deep Shadow Conditions," he had entertained a less risky plan of hers he never mentioned to anyone? What if he had agreed to an all-members-of-Shield retreat in Greenbelt, Maryland, only fifteen minutes away as the crow flies from DC, and scheduled breakfast at the Uptown Grill at 7501 Greenway Drive? Although it's true he might've been less likely to hear the "Hail Hydras" whispered among Jasper Sitwell, Senator Stern, Brock Rumlow, and Alexander Pierce, it's also true that Hydra's clandestine communications might very well have been disrupted by every agent of Shield ordering "Banana Cakes," pancake-shaped pieces of decadent delight that need no syrup to stymie loose lips and already-lost honor.

This is close to my office building so I decided to stop by and pick up breakfast. I'm usually a fan of Korean owned delis that are attached to office buildings, they seem to have pretty tasty sandwiches made fresh on the spot. However, this establishment might have changed my mind about delis - my salmon cake egg sandwich came out bland and unsatisfying. For $6, I would be much happier with a happy meal + change. Their prices are ridiculous for what's given to you.. knew I should've packed my own breakfast this morning.

I have no idea how fortunate I was going to be recently on a Saturday to get a counter seat and finally partake in this establishment. I was actually excited and said the groceries I had just purchased can wait to make it home. This place is 24 hours and I feel like constantly packed. It is noisy, it is greasy, it is delicious. I'm always down for a diner meatloaf, and I'm always down for just the diner vibe. I walked in, saw and empty seat at the counter, asked the lady sitting next to the seat if the seat was taken (it was not), then sat down. After I got settled, I was took the place in. Compact, noisy, all the smells. Then the server showed up, handed me a menu and got me napkins, silverware, and a straw. She then apologized for not welcoming me and asking how I was. Girl, I see you're busy, no need to apologize, gimme that menu and we will get this dance started. After looking over the menu, which I really didn't need to do since I already knew what I was getting, I was ready to place my order. I went with the Meatloaf dinner which come with your choice of two sides. My sides were mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. I also ordered a side salad to start the meal. Oi! If I would have known how big the side salad was, I would have forgone that, it was huge. The salad consisted of a mix between iceberg and mixed greens (heavy on the iceberg). Basically a whole tomato quartered, red onions, green peppers, and some big chunks of cucumber. After cutting it up, adding the dressing, dashing some pepper I finally dig in. This is a hefty salad that can be a messy eat. Knowing that I had the dinner coming, I had to stop eating the salad because not all this food was going to fit. Then the meatloaf shows up. I think at this point I have to say that if you sit at the counter (and most places in here) you can see the action of cooking the food. I watched as they were approaching with my platter and there was some back and forth. They were worried that I was going to ask to have the mac and cheese on another plate. See it was in a bowl and they placed the bowl on the plate. I did not care either way, just gimme. I want to say, in all my stops at diners, I have never had a meatloaf like this. They took the time to toss it on the gridle before plopping it on a plate. I was not expecting this, nor how good the crisp was on it. The mashed potatoes looked like typical diner potatoes. Both were covered with brown gravy and a nice compliment I might saw. This mac and cheese...very cheesy. I mean cheese stretch worthy mac and cheese. Each bite was cheese heavy and I was not mad about that. When I was finished, and full beyond capacity. it was time to go. Paying is easy, just go to the register, tell them what seat you were in, and pay. Such a good experience, will be back and eye it up when it's not packed.

I ordered a platter with eggs, potatoes, turkey sausage, and toast -- good portion size and everything tasted fine. My friend had the French toast and mentioned it was a little soggy. It was pretty busy for late night, and they seemed short-staffed -- only one waitress handling most of the tables. Because of that, service was a bit slow. We didn't wait to be seated, but there was a noticeable delay before we could pay since we had to wait for the waitress to ring us up while she was helping a larger party. Overall, a decent late-night diner spot with good portions and a nostalgic feel -- just expect a bit of a wait when it's busy.

We all found traditional diner breakfasts as well as many dishes with a Latin taste and ingredients. I had their big egg sandwich with ham and bacon on a bagel. The sandwich's taste excelled despite the plain Jane bagel. Otherwise one family member had the eggs Benedict with ham rated very good. The hollandaise was just right. All eggs were cooked as ordered, bacon crispy but not too well done. Sweet ice tea was great! Everything was fresh, tasty and satisfying! The service was also attentive and friendly. Overall a great meal! Highly recommend!

Luckily I'm very familiar with the area and know that the entrance is beside the Exxon, up and winding driveway and sits on top of the hill. There's a small Wyndham hotel next to it, so if you look up and see the Wyndham signage, you're in the right spot! I've never dined at this spot and it's been here for YEARS! I believe it started off as a Howard Johnson's many moons ago, but don't quote me on that..LOL. The restaurant itself is really nothing to look at. It's seems more like a diner than a restaurant but it's surprisingly large, just a little outdated. I sat at the rather small bar since I was there for HH. The bartender was extremely pleasant and attentive. I ordered the wings and bacon wrapped dates that were on the HH menu and I also ordered the calamari which was on the regular menu. I must say, the calamari and bacon wrapped dates tastes as good as any I've ever had! The wings were very good as well. The HH priced margarita was extremely good and $4 off the regular price! I will definitely be back when I want to grab something good and lowkey. Oh yeah, there's a Mexican food vibe which surprised me. I was served complimentary chips and salsa, and the menu had several Mexican cuisine offerings. Because of this, they may want to consider a name change.. Lol!

I spent every summer in this town, growing up, and I never discovered this restaurant until a precious friend brought me here a few years ago. It's a dated, though efficient, and charming, cafe with fresh dishes you might love. Firstly, if you plan on having lunch here on a Monday, make sure you are able to finish by 2:45 since they close by 3pm. All other days, they are open past 8pm. We started with the sweet potato soup despite the fact that the reviews for the lentil soup here are the highest. Yes! If it's featured: get it! The turmeric and coconut milk make this soup delightful. The herbs made it so fresh and there was just the right amount of sweetness and gentle heat. Parsley really adds to this recipe and I'm not usually a fan of this herb. The pitas are soft, thin and light. Love them. We needed to order more. I've never had such paper-thin pitas. Yum! I love love love the hummus, here. It is nothing short of divine. The flavors are fabulous and deeply complex. You can really taste the tahini. The olive oil is mild and delicious. I exclaimed, "the hummus was the best ever." And then 5 minutes later, I read a review by Yelper James H. where he says it's the best ever and, "... this hummus at Cedars of Lebanon might have ruined all other hummus for me forever." While I've had similar swooning feelings over the hummus at Lebanese Taverna in Tyson's Corner, this hummus is at least a top contender if not the metro DC area's hummus winner. The cucumber mint yogurt salad is nice, cold and refreshing. You can really taste the mint. I would order this yogurt salad with every meal. The falafel pizza is unusual and fresh. Straight away-- you can taste the tahini, parsley and couscous. The dough is grainy and natural. And there are radishes on this falafel pizza: not overpowering. For the $9 or so pricepoint, this dish is a true labor of love. To prep all of these vegetables, even with food processors, must take time. How novel of a dish! Put the yogurt salad on this pizza. You will thank me. And I only did it because I was watching someone else slather it on. There were at least 12 desserts on the menu. Meow. If we weren't so full of pita, hummus, tahini and fresh veggies, we certainly would love to taste a few of these. As well as the Turkish coffee, with an authentic ceramic and metal carafé presentation.

The restaurant has a small outdoor dining area with three four-seater tables, which was find for our two dogs. The experience overall was pretty low key, which necessarily is not a bad thing. Although there is waiter/waitress service, you will have to order your food at the cashier's counter. Actually, maybe that's only a thing if you are dining outside. The menu has a nice mix of Middle Eastern dishes. I went with a beef (or maybe it was lamb) kabob plate. The portions were fine and my meal was pretty good. It was not out of this world amazing, but it got the job done. I thought that the prices were pretty good for the area and the amount of food received. Although the food was fine, I do not think that I would go out of my way (e.g., driving more than 30 minutes) to dine here. Just be aware that the restaurant does not serve alcoholic beverages.
