The food today was excellent! Fresh and hot, and the coffee is bottomless. A shout out to our server Felisha, excellent and efficient, friendly and fun. I got the Tri fecta, with a waffle, eggs over easy and bacon. The blueberry compote was just enough to sweeten the waffle. Mr. G. Got the Salmon Benedict. I've had this before, and he loved it. We shared an order of steel cut oatmeal. The restaurant is clean (no sticky tables), and it was warm. No drafts. There is a Community Table, booth, and table, seating. There is also a take out option. I would definitely go back, recommend, and bring people to First Watch. It is always a lovely experience and meal.

Trifecta w/ waffle, sub the eggs for breakfast potatoes and chicken sausage

This may be the shortest review I've written to date. It was what I needed to kick off my birthday weekend. I loved the flavor of the chicken sausage. Because I'm not a beef or pork eater, I find myself hoping restaurants have alternatives for bacon. I was pleasantly surprised. My only critic of this visit is that my side of potatoes were a tad bit too salty, they weren't unbearable. I would definitely return again. Delightful breakfast, I must say.

    Carnitas Breakfast Burrito
    Monte' J.

I came in today with the wife for a quick meal. There was not a wait and we were seated right away. I opted for a new item on the menu Carnitas Breakfast burrito as well as the Cinnamon Chip Pancake. The Burrito was so good, a little lite on the carnitas but the flavor was amazing. I liked the avocado, black beans and potatoes in this mix with the tomatillo hollandaise. The staff was polite, attentive and on their job as usual(at this location) My wife ordered a skillet of some kind.(see the pic) I can say that you are sensitive to dairy this may not be for you as it has a few different kinds of cheese including Cotija cheese.

I did not know Independence has a First Watch. Went here for the first time, it a pretty decent size, always full and packed during brunch hours. Lucky, we had a reservation, which I will recommend to do the day of. We were seated right away when we told them we had reserve. Staff were friendly, food was spectacular, and atmosphere was inviting, clean and open. I would definitely go back here again.

Nice large booths. Good service. Staff wore masks. Clean and good atmosphere. I got the choose 2 lunch special: ham & gruyere sandwich and tomato basil soup and both were rich, properly cooked, and delicious.

    Power Breakfast Quinoa Bowl
    Jason R.

I stopped in for a quick brunch and was very pleased with food service, great food, and an overall pleasant atmosphere. I ordered the Power Breakfast Quinoa Bowl. This good sized bowl of quinoa was flavored with italian sausage, roasted mushrooms, tomatoes, kale, parmesan and topped with two basted eggs. It is very filling, and truly provided the needed energy for the rest of my day. I've been feeling sluggish lately, and was looking for something to give me a boost. This was a great choice. Yes, we will return.

I enjoyed the pastry as an afternoon snack and it was great, I wish I had ordered two. The only issue as I reflect on this food experience is that I realized this place would be pricey for some people. The breakfast sandwich (croissant) and hash browns were $14.75 before tax for a whole sandwich and the pastry was $4.00. So $20 for a breakfast meal may be pricey for some families. We ordered a cappuccino, a pourover, two croissants (ham and cheese and tomato basil), a chocolate chip cookie, and two loaves of bread to go (a jalapeno cheddar cheese slipper and a rosemary cornmeal loaf). We had the pastries with our coffees and saved the breads for later. The coffees were excellent; I was surprised I liked my partner's pourover since I typically don't love washed-rind coffees with "fruity" notes, but it was bright and had a strong raspberry aroma and taste without being overly sour. The croissants were disappointingly just okay. They were kind of limp and didn't have the shattering, flaky layers of the croissants I love. They probably would have been much better warmed, but sadly, there was no warming equipment. However, everything else made up for the mid croissants. The chocolate chip cookie was fantastic and had the perfect crispy edge to chewy interior ratio. We ended up eating the loaf of rosemary cornmeal bread and cheese slipper over the next week, and both were incredible. The cheese slipper is like a focaccia with more bite, covered with a beautifully charred cheese. It was difficult not to eat it all in one sitting. The rosemary bread was delicious and studded with little clusters of cornmeal inside, which made for a fun texture and pops of corn flavor. I wish I lived closer to KC, or else I'd be picking up bread and coffee from here regularly!

It's a pretty downtown location. The decor is cozy and nicely decked out for Christmas. - chairs. They spent a little extra on padded leather to save our butts. - service. They're quick and polite. - cleanliness. Now for the less good: - layout. Everything feels tight. It's prettier than it is practical. - drink quality. My daughter found her spiced chai (pictured) overly sweet. And if you look at the pic, you'll notice that they gave her basically 2/3 of a cup. That pic was taken before she took a single sip (yes, I know the straw I used to show the amount looks used; I did use it to search for a tea bag in my tea fog. See below!). My cinnamon/butterscotch tea fog was, to put it politely, unimpressive. I left it steeping at least 15 minutes because it was way too hot to drink. And then I had to get a straw to search for tea bags, because it tasted like hot foamy water and I was convinced they'd forgotten to put the tea bags in. Well, they hadn't. There was one tea bag. My standard of comparison is Gusto over by Longview, which makes the best tea fogs in town. They use two tea bags and it tastes like heaven. Whatever they served me at Whistle Stop tasted like perfumed water. So overall, I give it a 3/5. Points for location and decor and nice chairs. But the main attraction should be the drinks, and they were both kinda terrible. And there's just no excuse for serving someone 2/3 of a cup when we're paying $6 for a small drink.
