I can't give an honest review of the food because we didn't make it that far. Side note: I understand with covid, things are very weird right now and restaurants are doing their best. However, when I read a review describing the exact scenario we experienced PRE covid, I felt compelled to provide our first time encounter. We arrived around 1100 and were told a 20 minute wait: a reasonable frame of time due to the area's dense population and love of brunch. After waiting 25-30 mins, while watching many people come and go, we asked where we were on the waiting list. We were told not to worry about 20 minutes. Another 20 minutes?! After watching many people leave. We ditched our efforts to go to another restaurant. We were seated and had our orders placed before I received the text that our table was ready - nearly an hour!! I get it, it's not always easy to gauge wait times. But do not piss on my head and tell me it's raining. 20 minute wait times compared to 60 minutes is vastly different. I'm disappointed as I've heard good things about the food. Please do a better job with providing honest wait times. It truly looked as if people who requested through the app (something I didn't know) were being sat before people that came in and put their names on a list. This place is HIGHLY overrated! My meal for one person was $18 for a scrambled egg breakfast. $3 for a small OJ and $3 for coffee. The meal was barely warm when it was served. The waitress made no recommendations. When my food arrived I couldn't find the two scrambled eggs because my plate was loaded with potatoes. The two muffins were the size of cookies and in one corner of the plate. The far corner had two eggs which the portion was so small i can't believe there were two eggs there. In the middle was full of potatoes. It also took at least 25 minutes for me to get my food. When I complained their response was "well was the food good? I'm actually pissed I waited the better part of 25 minutes for barely warm food. Go to Nudy's! Better food, fast and better price! read more

My mother and I went to 1st Watch today for the second time. It is new to the Exton area and therefore very popular at the moment. The first time we went they were very busy but very good. So we decided to go again. It was around lunch time even though we were heading there for breakfast. They sat us at a two person table that was extra small and lacked anywhere to put my mother's cane. It didn't really bother us...we just figured next time we'd ask for a larger table or booth. My mother got a breakfast sandwich and their special sweet bacon. I got their waffle and a side of grits. The first real problem was the silverwear. Mom and I unrolled the napkins to find bits of other people's food and dirty finger prints on them. We asked for new. The new ones were equally dirty. We asked again. The final ones were slighty less dirty but still had bits of food on them. We wiped them as best we could on the napkins and decided to put up with it. Then the food came. It was tasty. The crispy waffle even had a good amount of vanilla in it (something a lot of places forget to add). But the butter on my waffle had a piece of arugula in it...and my grits had a piece of clear plastic sticking up out of the bowl. The butter I simply removed (It was salted and on a sweet dish it didn't work well anyhow). But I had to send the grits back. They returned with "new" grits and an explanation that it wasn't plastic but a congealed bit of grit that I saw in my bowl. It was clear. It was shiny. It had pressed lines on one side like the edge of a package. It was NOT congealed grits. They comped it which was the proper response but I didn't appreciate being lied to. The "new" grits they gave me were overflowing. Only after I ate a few spoon fulls did I realize they were on the same plate as the old. I could tell because there was a smear of jam on it that was also on the old plate. Also the grits were filled with melted butter dispite the fact that there was new unmelted butter on top. I suspect that they were the same grits with the plastic removed and a new scoop on top with fresh butter. I didn't eat them once I noticed. We are very dissapointed with the cleanliness of 1st Watch. Which is sad because it's a beautiful restaurant with yummy food (though a tad heavy on salt and pepper). My mother and I were hoping it would be a regular stop for us but now we are not so sure. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the food was actually good but I can't excuse dirty habits. read more

Had a lovely brunch here with a friend a few months back. I ordered a frittata and it was served with a side salad and baguette. It was delicious. I love the location in Newtown Square so I was thrilled when they opened in Exton, unfortunately I got food poisoning at this location. When I tried to call and tell someone about my experience they put me on hold for 15 minutes and never answered. I'm really sad, I wanted to love this place. I think with a busy kitchen, and they are BUSY, corners are cut and cross contamination is inevitable. They need to work on customer service and cleanliness. It seems their main focus is funneling as many people through the restaurant as possible in the shortest amount of time. This location is doing a phenomenal job with the CDC's recommended regulations for COVID-19. The restaurant is seating and serving at 50% capacity, those who are waiting to be seated must wait outside, all staff are wearing masks, everything is being sanitized profusely. We felt very safe. At 11:30 on a Friday there was a 30 minute wait with very little space for patrons to sit/stand. I felt very in the way especially with toddlers in tow. The food was good-nothing exceptional but definitely satisfying. Very trendy menu with some fun unique options. The service was really very good but I was put off watching people wait in line next to tables where we and other customers were eating. This was shortly after the location had opened so maybe this type of rush has died down. 21 Oct 2019*** My wife had the Short Rib Benedict. The eggs presented nicely and were properly cooked. No Hollandaise Sauce came with the Benedict nor was it on an english muffin, so I would not call it Benedict. The short rib meat was tender and ok in flavor, nothing outstanding. The potato serving on the plate was truly oversized, both is quantity and in cube size. The cube size was close to an inch and not crispy. Potatoes were cooked but with no real flavor other than salt which my wife added. I had a beef and havarti sandwich with a green salad. Though the cheese was melted the sandwich came to me cold. I was of the understanding the sandwich was to be hot. The garden salad with dressing was as expected. Dressing was nice but nothing to wright home about. Atmosphere. This place was cold, both in temperature and in personality. It was clean in the seating area as was the mens restroom. The temperature of the establishment was off putting. I was borderline goosebumps and I witnessed several women with there jackets on while eating. Service Server did a perfunctory job. She took our order, brought food and water. We had to ask twice for additional napkins. I did not understand the food slang she used and asked her to explain twice what each word meant relative to the meal or a specific item on the plate. This is a good location and clean for an eatery. With average fare and service, it is not for us. read more

We brought our 7-yr old granddaughter in for breakfast, were brought 3 adult menus, when the server came to take our order I said, 'I guess you don't have a children's menu, so can I order a la carte one egg, bacon & fresh fruit for her?' He took the order, never mentioning they had a kids' menu with the very same items, for half the price of the $20 we we were charged for a 2-egg order (not 1 egg as I requested), bacon, small fruit & juice. I asked for water & the server brought a small glass, but then became busy with seating customers, serving as cashier, etc. so I went through almost the entire meal with nothing to drink. Near the end of the meal when I asked for the check, he brought a glass of water with a full bottle of extra water. Too late! When I went to pay, a group of children came up with their kids' menu placemats, which is when I learned a kids' menu was available.
