They provide many options, if you want something healthy and light or something more filling. I advise placing a reservation, we waited about ten minutes to be seated. Although this could be because we hit the church rush on a Sunday. First Watch would be a great place to bring your family or a group of friends, even a good breakfast date spot. It was good. It was basic. Nothing to write home about. My wife had the frittata. It was dry; over cooked. I had Juevos Rancheros. The fried corn tortillas dominated the plate. No black beans in the dish but the salsa verde had a nice flavor. There are better local breakfast joints in town. The server was engaging and professional. Phenomenal staff and food. Had a post -Christmas day brunch with the family here on the 26th. Wife had the trifecta with cinnamon chip pancakes, bangers, scrambled eggs, with biscuit and gravy with a hot chocolate. In reverse order, the biscuit and gravy was great flavor wise but could have used more gravy. They weren't skimpy but not over generous. Bangers had a great flavor and had the loud snap you expect from a breakfast link. Eggs were cooked correctly and seasoned through. Cinnamon Pancakes were a new thing for us, but everything tied together well and the pancake was roughly 10"-12" wide. I had the Roast Beef and Havarti with Horseradish and a tomato basil soup. The bread was crispy, the cheese and horseradish spot were just right and the tomato soup was silky and flavorful. We also shared an order of "Millionaire's bacon" which I highly recommend. One member of our party ordered a sandwich that was supposed to feature an over easy (runny) egg. When it arrived at the table, the egg was hard and the diner requested the kitchen send out an appropriate egg. Instead, the kitchen sent out an entirely new plate, even though the diner had eaten a majority of their sides. Very satisfied, great staff, great atmosphere, and appropriate pricing for the area and volume of food. read more

This place continues to grow on me. My first experience at a First Watch was in Florida and it was a positive one, so I was looking forward to having an outlet in Chattanooga as well. When they finally opened, the first few times I went the food was good, but the service lackluster. Never bad, though the servers appeared uninterested and had to be asked for everything. HOWEVER, as there aren't many places that do breakfast/brunch into the afternoon (aside from spots like Cracker Barrel and Waffle House) and I love breakfast (especially pancakes), I kept giving it more chances. A few visits ago-- Eureka! I got a great server and it really boosted my perception of the whole place. Carrie has waited on me and my friends twice and she's just lovely, uber friendly and attentive. I'm sure there are other good servers there, but she's the first one to make an impression on me. Though it's not my absolute favorite place to get breakfast out, First Watch is just fine for a quick bite or meeting friends when in the Hamilton Place/Gunbarrel area. read more

I believe in second chances. And everyone likes a good redemption story. We decided to give these guys another go and were pleasantly surprised with the outcome. The menu has diversified and expanded, which was welcome. The wait staff is certainly more of a cohesive unit and our server did well. Two benny's later and we both agreed we were glad to give them another chance. There were still a few things we would have liked seeing tweaked, like more zip in the hollandaise and a thinner bread option for the benny's. I'm not a huge breakfast food person - it's really rich and to me, doesn't have a ton of variation. Also, it's so easy to make it mediocre at high prices. I went to First Watch initially because it was so highly recommended and because I was out too early to have a socially-acceptable lunch meal. I loved how clean and warm the place was without being too stuffy or saturated with those thick smells that many breakfast places seem to have. The staff is friendly and warm as well - perfect for early morning interaction. I ordered the pesto chicken power bowl and wow, was I impressed! Authentic taste of healthy California cuisine in TN. It was VERY difficult to choose a meal because everything looked great. I ended up getting the chicken pesto quinoa bowl and it was super tasty. (Although in CA it would have had much more spinach. It had like 4 little leaves in a huge bowl.) serving sizes are enormous so sharing is a good option here. The only reason to not give them 5 stars is that the name really bothers me. I know that's petty but it rankles for some reason. On their own website they claim that the first watch in nautical terms means the first shift of the day. Everywhere else first watch is defined as the first watch of the night, approx. 8-9pm to midnight. Since they're open only during breakfast and lunch the name makes no sense at all. We'll be going back while we're here. A great option to get (some) veggies into the diet while here, in the best tastiest way possible. read more

Employees are always friendly! Overall food quality is good... of coarse the occasional egg cooked wrong happens as it does anywhere. Lately, my experience has been a bit different than the usual top notch service. Last time I was in .. about 3 weeks ago I stood at the register for more than 5 minutes waiting for someone to check me out. I was the only one in line... And today, my food was good .. but the vinegar bottle I was given to use was a mess . Each time I picked it up I got my hands sticky and black spots from the soiled bottle. Seriously - truly an amazing meal! We had the ricotta pancakes that were fluffy and light. The lemon curd topping was perfect with it, and the strawberries we refreshing. It's probably not fair to grade a restaurant on how they perform during peak hours. That said, if you specialize in brunch it needs to be stellar. First, I will give mixed reviews on service. Our server was warm, friendly, and hard working. The hosts were disorganized and seated people out of the order they checked in which was frustrating. Now, the consistency of quality was...well, inconsistent. I had the farmstand tacos which were dry and seemed like they had been sitting for a while because they were cold. The scrambled eggs were not fluffy and good, but dense, dry lumps. My son loved his chocolate chip pancake and my mom liked her traditional breakfast and said the grits were top-notch. One big issue that stood out was the floor plan which has a narrow alley on the path to the kitchen. The biggest tangled where large families could sit line this path, meaning high chairs were also lining the only way servers carrying trays of hot food have in and out of the kitchen. It's also the only way to get to the restroom. It's a total cluster$!!# of design. Not sure I'd go back. read more

Drove 15 minutes on a very limited timeframe just to eat here. I called in and explained the situation to a female on the phone. She said they weren't on a wait so we couldn't put our name on the list, but due to our situation she would put our name first on list should there be a wait. We got there within 10 minutes and there was already a 30 minute wait. The guy (that seemed to Be the manager) told me he wouldn't honor what the other person told us. We ended up not being able to eat or feed our girls between their ballgames. This guy, that I sure hope isn't their manager, made no offers to compromise or apologies to us. Seriously delicious. Cute place. Friendly service. The coffee and the millionaire bacon alone are worth going for. The waitress suggested the cold brew coffee instead of iced coffee and it was a wonderful suggestion. Little one had hot coffee- Also delicious. They have a decent amount of healthy breakfast and lunch options. I begrudgingly got the healthy turkey omelette while little one got pancakes because I'm trying to eat better but I was glad I did since it was actually good. Little one enjoyed the turkey sausage she got with her pancakes. The only thing we didn't love was their strawberry basil drink. It was just too sweet.
