Chickichanga
Emily M.

I asked our server for suggestions and, of the half dozen dishes he said he enjoys, I went with The Chickichanga. It isn't what I typically gravitate towards, but was a great experience. The dish was a melange of flavors and textures; it reawakened how much I miss the use of hatch green chilies. The spices in the chorizo and on the chicken were tempered by avocado and sour cream. There was an unexpected pop of citrusy acidity in the chickichanga's sauce that cut through what may have been too heavily unctuous without it. The potatoes were texturally delightful. They were soft inside, floury, with crispy edges on some of them and bits of cooked onion. There was a small fruit cup with red grapes, sliced strawberries, and bits of pineapple, none of which had the tinny taste or soft texture you sometimes get in mid-December. My spouse had a holiday special, carne asada breakfast tacos served with a side of black beans. The beans had pico de gallo on top. He had no complaints about his food, after he removed some of the pickled red onions. The steak was toothsome and well seasoned. He loved the corn tortillas. We both had coffee & water. Our server left the insulated coffee carafe after filling our cups and said to let him know if we needed more. The carafe maintained a good temperature for enjoying the coffee. All of the staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was busy with it feeling rushed. This location is very busy, but still good for groups as there was a table of ladies doing a gift exchange during their lunch across the dining room.

First Watch is always a fantastic experience! The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, with plenty of healthy and hearty options to choose from. Everything tastes made-to-order, and you can really tell they use quality ingredients. The staff is friendly, attentive, and welcoming, making the whole visit even better. Whether you're there for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, First Watch consistently delivers great food and great service. Highly recommend!

Ummmm, enjoyed The BEC. Bacon, egg, and cheddar sandwich was delicious! It costed $14.49. Service was good. The restaurant buzzed with lively conversations and happy people.

A group of 7 of us came here for brunch and they squeezed us in a booth. The decoration was urban farm. The menu was fun and we were excited and torn about what to order because there are so many good things to try. We ordered the green juice & fresh pressed orange juice. The waitress quickly brought our drinks then took our order. I decided to go for the frittata. Everything came quickly and all my friends thoroughly enjoyed the food. This is a popular place that didn't take reservations. Be expected to wait. But for a delicious brunch, this should be on your list!

I took my sister to First Watch this week, and we ordered a seasonal Spring Lavendar French Toast dish to share. The flavor was just right and paired nicey with the complementary coffee. The interior was vibey and our waiter was friendly. We loved the lavender cream on top, not too sweet with the perfect texture. My usual go-to dish is the Lemon Ricotta pancakes, so I definitely want to take my sister back here so that she can try it! Highly recommend this place!

First time ordering via takeout. All meals were fresh and cooked as ordered. Most likely will return and dine in.

Coda Rouge, I commend you for a superb Valentine's Day dinner…read more I've experienced lunch at Coda Rouge a few times, but this special occasion, the five-course prix fixe aphrodisiac menu, was next-level dining. Why? The opportunity to experience the live painting artwork by Bryan "Prolifik" Hickman, artist and creator of the Tuskegee Airman mural on the side wall of Coda Rouge. The added ambiance of Singer's Lounge, Phebe West, singing lovely, familiar tunes. And last but not least, the intimacy of meeting Coda Rouge chef, Sachiko Tashiana, who trained under renowned chef Wolfgang Puck. And all hands on deck from the chef's family, who helped make the evening special. Finally, the presentation of each of the five courses and the food was superb. If you have never experienced Coda Rouge, you must add it to your short list of Harrisburg fine dining experiences.

Small menu with unique items. Dining room is very cold. Thought it might be me but heard numerous other guests also commenting on being cold. The dining room was nicely decorated and very Hostess greeted me warmly, could use more of that warmth! She was helpful and offered information on dinner and breakfast options. My server Cricket, was friendly but did approach the table initially with "what are you having" no hello or greeting or suggestions. Although I had asked for lemon with my water since tap water often varies in taste it was served without. Salmon full of flavor but a little dry, prosciutto wrap was very dry, it was served on a large portion of delicious risotto that had asparagus in it, the menu had made it sound like the asparagus was separate from the risotto. Being on a meal plan and watching my weight I would have appreciated it being served separately because I eat the healthy items first. I would typically eat all the risotto, but I did, the tase was exquisite! Bred was hard, dry and had no flavor Buffet, not offered or on the menu Hostess did take beverage orders for a young group that occupied a number of tables from a few tables away they had coupons for the buffet added to the high levels of disruptive noise in dining room. This went on throughout my stay because they were coming in at different times. Young group were using speaker phones in the dining room for the cost of the entree at $23 that was disappointing. Apparently the same venue being used for two very different atmospheres from cafeteria to a fine dining. The very small bar is located in a separate room at the entrance and has terrible acoustics because mid dinner it was so loud it was annoying.

You can get lost in the stacks across multiple levels of the buildings. There is ample seating around a performance stage and overhead in the gallery. I appreciate the layout where people can gather in the main area around the stage, but then slip away into the stacks to browse or have a quiet chat. I can buy a book and a pastry and people-watch from a table overlooking the stage or just write in peace to the sound of jazz or the gentle rhubarb of polite conversation. In Harrisburg, it is a great place to meet people who share your interests, especially during these events. I've found it easy to talk with people about various subjects, which, as this is a "scholarly" bookstore, makes a lot of sense. I've actually managed to locate a few rare tomes and art pieces here over the years. Communication, however, is spotty. I've sent several inquiry emails that went unanswered. I've made phone calls where the callback with information never came. When dealing with the staff, they are cordial and professional with the immediate sale, but never seem interested in me or my money if they have to do additional work or communicate with me. I now only approach them looking for material if other locations fall through. But overall, if you want to spend some time with the kind of books you won't find at your local B&N, dive into a complex topic with the latest academic text, or just find something new and interesting, this is worth a trip to the city.

After Cinco de Mayo…read more It was a rainy day here in Harrisburg, PA. I took a job in Lancaster, but first, I needed my coffee--I think I'm addicted to it now! The day before, I had a great cup from Passenger, but today I stopped by Little Amps in downtown Harrisburg before hitting the road. The atmosphere was excellent; it reminded me of home in LA with the records playing, dim lighting, and vintage decor everywhere. I felt a bit torn, like one coffee house wanted me to stay and the other wanted me to leave, so I decided to "break myself in half" and visit both. After all, two of me is better than one! I highly rate Little Amps for the scenery. The vintage look and the outdoor seating make you feel like you're in Manhattan or Paris, giving you the vibe of three places all in one. If you haven't been to any of these spots yet, save your money and just visit Little Amps to get that "all-in-one" experience. The staff is very inviting and they do offer bagels, though I have to be honest: they aren't quite as good as New York bagels. I know New York bagels inside and out, and they know me!
