First Watch is always a "must do" when I'm back in Columbus, OH so I was thrilled when they recently opened their first Wisconsin location. And I'm happy to say the new Brookfield location is just as good as the Columbus, OH locations. Staff is super friendly and quick to get you your coffee as soon as you sit down. And of course, the menu has all the great First Watch choices like my favorites, 3 cheese omelet and the Trifecta. And I always appreciate that they leave a full carafe of coffee on your table. I'm so happy they have finally come to Milwaukee! Now open a location downtown so I don't have truck out to Brookfield every weekend. read more

I selected this place (based on Yelp reviews) for a quick brunch with my parents before we headed to the airport. It was great! The atmosphere is very light with lots of sun pouring in the windows. We had a comfortable booth. I ordered a glass of ginger citrus juice for $3.99 and 3 wholegrain cranberry nut pancakes. I loved that they offered sugar-free syrup and they warmed it, too! My husband had a veggie burger. The pancakes were great and the juice really hit the spot. The pancakes are very large. I couldn't eat the last 1/4 or so. Prices were reasonable. I removed one star only because the entrees didn't come with any sides included. No fries with my husband's veggie burger, and I would have loved maybe a cup of fruit. I believe these options were available a la carte, but not included. If I lived in Milwaukee, I'd definitely return to this great brunch spot that is a hit with omnivores and vegetarians alike! read more

Very good food, amazing coffee, even have the flavored creamer to make the cup just right. I've been there three times, everything was unique and interesting except for the potatoes, which have been cold and lacking something each time. I've been a server for years and hope that the staff will come around to reading people better. For instance, each time I've gone, they greet you right away, but come by every 60 seconds to see if you're ready. When you are ready, they take your order, don't upsell at all (your servers give the best recommendations- either their or clientele favorites, a good thing to ask for when you've never been there) Then, when you're a 1/3 through, they see how everything is, drop off the check and don't stop by unless they're clearing plates. These things I find annoying because I like to take my time reading the menu and tend to drink a lot of coffee. Management is always around and super helpful/ friendly. Try it out! Here's what the do right...great service, clean, pretty, eggs were good, and at least the have vegetables on the menu. BUT they have a horribly distorted view of what "healthy" is. Vegetable hash had two spinach leaves in it (almost purely potatoes). Cheese on everything and white flour English muffins galore. I am amazed that people won't eat an egg yolk, but think an English muffin is better. However, this is Wisconsin and they are marketing to people who put cheese on everything. Had Sunday morning brunch with my children. The place was packed with couples and families with the same idea. Slight 10 minute wait, but there's coffee to the side while you are waiting. We had the sourdough French toast, the Floridian crepeggs ( omelette inside a crepe) and the Cajun omelette. Service was quick, coffee just right, and food great. Would love to return on a non-busy day and take time with my meal. Hard to do that when you know that you're on a clock when you're there, because of the line waiting outside. read more

While in Milwaukee we had breakfast here. It's a bright and cheerful place. Our waitress was equally nice. I had the oatmeal with pecans, banana and dried cranberries. It was great. We tried this place b/c we had purchased a Groupon for them. The menu looked interesting and it was near our house. For those who may be familiar w/the area, this is in the space where Chin's Asia Fresh used to be. We arrived about 7:15 on a Saturday AM and the place was empty except for one older couple. We had read about the fearsomely strong coffee in another review here so when the server asked if we wanted some, we asked to wait a bit for that decision. She left us w/menus and we asked the other couple how the coffee was. They told us it was "pretty darn strong" but said "you get used to it!" We're kind of coffee wimps, so we decided against it when our server returned. We did get a pitcher of ice water w/a lemon in it, which was nice. My husband ordered a Gravy Train Omelette, which he said was adequate but nothing great (for a couple hours afterwards, he complained of the onions from it returning on him...). I ordered a Turkey Dill Crepegg, which I thought was reasonably good. The dill flavor was noticeable, the tomato garnish was chopped small enough, and the spinach appeared fresh. However, we both felt the potatoes gave a very strong impression of having been pre-cooked and then heated over none too thoroughly. The English muffin that came with both was exactly what one expects of an English muffin, and the jam offered was the standard little packs seen at most restaurants. On the tables were 2 bowls of creamers for the coffee, one of plain half and half and one w/flavored creamers, for those who enjoy that sort of thing. The service was both prompt and pleasant, no complaints there at all. There is a small outdoor eating area, but as it adjoins a large parking lot for the strip mall that the restaurant is in, and beyond that is Bluemound Road, so it doesn't offer much in the way of ambience. I can't say the food was bad, but it was also nothing special. According to their website, they are a chain that does not view themselves as a chain. Unfortunately, I do not share that view and would not go out of my way to eat there again, preferring to patronize any of the many "one-off" breakfast places we have around the area instead. read more

While I still miss the Chin's restaurant that used to be in this location, this is not a bad replacement. The service was excellent and the food was delicious (we ordered breakfast - I got the Eggs Benedict and the side of fruit was really fresh). I was also a big fan of the coffee here. I was tempted to buy a bag at the cash register (1 lb for $6), but then I remembered I don't have a coffee maker. So, I thought about buying a bag and getting a coffee maker. I went here recently becuase I had a groupon, and it was okay. We had soup and sandwiches, and the sandwich came with a small salad and their house potatoes. I thought the price was reasonable. They seem to be on the fence as far as health food goes. There are no fryer, or french fries, but a lot of the menu seems pretty heavy. There were a few interesting breakfast items that I would like to try. Also, I heard they have very good, strong coffee. I will go back some weekend to try that out. read more

Ever have the sensation you're getting screwed? We're standing here with patrons pouring out of the restaurant but almost no one being seated because hey are terrible at turning their tables. Horrific experience. We are here again after a terrible first experience. The manager invited us back at no cost and we have been standing here for 20 minutes staring at 4 FOUR absolutely unoccupied tables that the same guy is slowly clearing. He comes and take 3-4 items then goes away for a while! HORRIFIC SLOW TURNOVER while their other staff stands knoodling about the daily news and other patrons. I'm so disgusted I barely want to eat my upcoming free meal. How can you be so consistently slow with a culture of terrible service? The third staff person is now restocking the sweet and low, it's been 28 minutes since the people left the table right in front of me. UNREAL! On the way out, the manager had the Gaul to confront me on my yelp review instead of managing his restaurant or, dare I say, clear a darn table himself.
