We have moved many times from across town to across the country and have had a lot of different experiences with movers. Some were well known national movers and others were locals. The first thing that got my attention is this is a veteran and female owned company. I try to support these as much as possible, Soon after I made the call Christy came out and looked at the house and the amount and type of things we had to move. I decided to go with First Step and this was one of the best decisions I have ever made. They showed up on time first of all. The 3 guys that came were moving the entire time and taking great care of our items. The house they were moving us to is a new house that we just built and the landscaping or driveway was not in yet. They had to carry all of our furniture and other items all the way across the yard that was all rocky with bumpy dirt. They did it and did it well. They moved some very heavy items to a storage building to the back of our lot that was brutal to get to. They did it with no problem and no complaint. On top of everything else, they were friendly and had a great sense of humor. This is the best review I have ever written for any business on Yelp and it is well deserved. We used First Step Moving last weekend and they did an outstanding job. I went with the 3 man crew and they worked very hard and didn't waste any time. From the initial contact on YELP with the quote to the follow up phone call confirming the time to the exact time the movers showed up, everything went as planned. They were careful to wrap everything that needed to be wrapped in moving blankets. And I am happy to say that nothing was broken at all. One very important thing to me is that they didn't cause any damage to the walls or floors of either location. They were very mindful of that. Worst move out of ten moves we have ever had. The guys were friendly and worked hard but that is where the positive stops. To start, they were 2 hours late arriving for the move. We were told we would have 5 movers and 2 trucks, we had 4 movers and 2 trucks. They apologized for their being late but the office pretty much gave us an attitude from the very start. They did significant damage to some of our furniture. They also left furniture turned upside down, on top of other furniture, and still wrapped in plastic wrap. They house was in chaos. They tracked mud through the house on new area rugs, made significant scratches on the back door. Took off the garage door and did not put all the pins back in the door, we had to buy new pins. Took off shelf pins that were nowhere to be found. Scratched the refrigerator and I'm still not hitting it all. They did give me $180.00 credit for the damage to our dining room table but that didn't cover all the other issues we had. Then to add insult to injury, I spoke with the owner the next day and basically she didn't care. I asked her if she would like to see the pictures of how our furniture was left and she said no. In fact, she rebuked me because I tipped the guys saying I shouldn't have tipped them if I was unhappy. The problem isn't that they didn't work hard, but that they aren't trained well and didn't take care of our stuff. She said she contacted them several times during the day and they said we were happy. But she contacted me once after they arrived and asked how it was going. We are hiring other movers because we need stuff moved around but in the chaos of that evening, it was hard to tell how stuff fit, etc., and all the guys wanted to do was go home. read more

I moved from Rowlett and McKinney at the beginning of March. I have never used movers. Always used random friends....and even then it was iffy about who would show up. Used FSM and it was an amazing experience. The guys were gracious and very friendly. They took their job seriously and were still able to answer my random questions about the moving business. Who doesn't hate moving??? Apparently not Chris & Doug from Next Step Moving. These two LOVE moving, & it shows. (We had a 3 man crew move us, but I forgot the 3rd gentleman's name. Sorry.) We were coming up on our move day and I had already hired another moving company. But Christy and Joe, reached out to me via phone and via Yelp expressing their desire in wanting to move us, a very reasonable hourly price was quoted and after learning that they were a new local business and were veteran ran/owned, I took a leap of faith, cancelled with the other moving company and scheduled with Christy. Next Step Moving was very easy to work with and always reachable from phone or email. Moving is always a painful process, so I definitely appreciated all the time and questions answered. So move day came, and our guys, Doug and Chris show up at our old apartment, in appropriate and neat moving attire. They informed me their 3rd guy was coming and they would start the clock once he got there. To my surprise, these two guys immediately started working. I had honestly thought they were going to mill around and wait for the 3rd man to show up and then start working. But these two amazing guys just started to quickly and carefully load our stuff onto their truck. So I stopped Doug and told him to just start the clock now, he hesitated and informed him it was perfectly fair as they were actually already working. *Shortly there after, Mr. #3 and Mr. #4 show up and all were in sync in loading the truck. Mr. #4 was the owner, Joe. He just got in there and started working with his guys. Talk about dedication. In short, our move went along smoothly. There were no damaged walls at either location, all our stuff was wrapped, protected, packed and transported carefully. Overall, these guys did the entire move the right way and I can't think of one complaint. It was a 4 hour move, and not one issue? Amazing. If I could be honest, the one shortfall in the entire move was me. These guys had been on an all nighter back from Houston, we were their 3rd and final move of the day and it slipped my mind to provide these guys with cold bottled water or something during our move. Sorry guys. Whether this review convinces you to use Next Step Moving or not, I hope at the very least this honest review brings to light the great efforts a dependable local business, that is staffed with employees who care about & know the value in what they are doing. Again, these guys definitely voiced their love for moving and how much they enjoyed it. They care about what they are doing. So to me it makes total sense to seek the services of those who love and care about what they are doing with my stuff. Even if my stuff is junk, its my junk & these guys took care of it. Heaps of credit for the success of this move goes out to our moving crew. They way Doug transported my desk and couch down 3 flights of stair was an amazing sight to see. I hadn't seen something like that since a Cirque de Sole show, impressive. And Chris, a very driven, enthusiastic and mature young man. He's skinny as hell, but don't let that deceive you. He was carrying boxes and boxes of books like you'd see on a nature show of ants carrying sticks and stones 5 times their size and weight. Again, really impressive. So if you are facing a dreadful move, do yourself a favor, save your back and sanity, reach out to the wonderful Christy or Joe @ Next Step Moving and give their crew a chance. After a lot of to and fro with conversations and confusion on rate/hr and dates and timing of the 'move, I was a bit apprehensive in expecting a high class move service. But I was really impressed with the way Jose and Monty handled my move. They rented a penske since their truck broke down. I was surprised that it could fit in the entire 2 bed apartment( trust me we had a lot of stuff). I could sense that they both njoied doing wat their job. No refusal on any request made. With a hot texas day , at 105 degrees these guys did a fantastic job helping us move to the second floor. Christy was helpful too at the end clearing out the confusion with per hr rates since we got 2 movers instead of 3. They are really a great moving company. I generally do not recommend that easy but you can totally rely on them. 4 stars just because of the confusion on rate, 2 men coming instead of 3, confusion on the payment amt towards the end. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Nicest movers, Christy was responsive and nice before I move - until I incurred significant damage to my Dining Table and Credenza. I texted, call, emailed and messaged through yelp about the damage and received no response! Finally, 4 days later I told Christy that I would post negatively and claim on my Home Owners insurance and they would seek subrogation. Her response was "I'm on my Honeymoon in Hawaii". That's it!! No further direction, apology or anything. If you move and don't have any issues, they're great. However, if you experience damage, plan to take it to court. That's where we're headed. read more

Great moving company. The communication from the start was fast and accommodating. I had a two day move, which was stressful enough, but the guys were on time and ready both days. They were able to send the same crew both days which made it very easy. We were able to get everything done in a reasonable time. I moved my one bedroom apartment to a storage unit in July and First Step did a wonderful job. I received quotes from a few companies and tried to pick local companies with good reviews. I appreciated Dori's follow up and answering all my questions to get me a quote and the move scheduled. It was great customer service and something I didn't get from the other companies I received quotes from. First Step has a service charge, which the other companies did not have, but I actually think that worked out so much better because I didn't have to worry about hidden fees being added at the end; they are up front about the cost and the quote was accurate. There was a crew of 3 men for my move- William's Crew - and they were lovely, wrapped all the furniture well, completed the move in less time than anticipated, and did not charge for any extra time or equipment that I didn't use (I had requested some moving blankets and a mattress bag that I didn't end up needing). A friend of mine moved from the same apartment to the same storage facility a week prior and went with a larger, well-known company who ended up charging them 3x the quoted price even though the initial quote was lower than mine. I was pleased I went with First Step and had an accurate quote. My mom is moving soon and plans to use First Step, and when I move into a new place in a few months I plan on using them again. The staff were very courteous and helpful. However, there were a few issues. A lot of my furniture ended up scratched. I was offered one price for 2 movers and a 3rd guy showed up. I was told I would still only be charged for 2 movers, I said they could charge me for the 3, but the mover insisted they would only charge for 2. So the price for 2 movers is what we ended up agreeing on. When they finished, I ended up getting charged for 3. I did receive a discount for being a healthcare worker but still I feel irritated by the change in price of $20/hr when it ended up taking 4 hours. read more

We've just used First Step for the second time, and once again we're happy with our move and how easy it was for us. We had Stephen's team this time, and they were really fast and took good care of all of our belongings. Our only negative about this experience is that we were quoted with three movers, but only had two due to one of them not being able to work. We understand things happen. They did lower the price per hour for us, but unfortunately our move took longer because we lost 1/3 of the labor, so we did end up paying more than we anticipated. That was a shame, but again, things happen. Overall, we're happy with our decision, and will still be using them again for our next move. read more

I chose this moving company after seeing so many 5 star reviews. The scheduling process was fairly easy. A little miscommunication which almost resulted in my move not being scheduled in their system, but luckily it worked out. The movers were scheduled to arrive between 8:00 am - 9:00 am. I assumed I was their first move of the day. The move started at 9:15 am. Which I could live with, but would have much rather started earlier with the heat. I live in a one bedroom apartment (not even 800 square feet), so I'm hoping we can have this done quickly. The movers seemed to move at a slow pace which I've never experience with movers. I'm used to movers moving very quickly. I just assumed they were being careful. However, I started to notice long absences, or they would be looking at their phone and talking about which music to listen to, and each took multiple bathroom breaks. I really didn't have time to micro-manage as I was working on other things associated with my move. I finally had to ask if we would be finished by a certain time since we were now approaching 3 hours and they still had half of my apartment to load into the truck. When my belongings were finally loaded into the truck I was told that the movers would be stopping for lunch and that I would be responsible for the cost of gas to the location they would be stopping, and the cost of gas to my new residence. Now, I understand that as an hourly employee they are required by law to be allotted a lunch break. However, my move should have been completed prior to this break. If they wanted a lunch break, then my move should have started at 8 and been completed by noon. This is feasible considering I was moving a one bedroom apartment. I placed a call into First Step Moving and first talked to a man named Alex who hung up on me. My next call in I spoke with Justin who was very friendly and understanding. He stated that he would ask a supervisor to get in touch with me. However, (3 days later) I still haven't received that follow up phone call. There are many things that I have questions about as I paid for a 6 hour move for a one bedroom apartment! I have always lived in a one bedroom, and my moves have never lasted more than 3 hours. I'd rather not have a response on Yelp. Please return my call so that we can discuss. UPDATE: I received a call from the owner who was extremely helpful and very nice. I appreciated the prompt call after reading my review. I also appreciate his concern and willingness to hear my feedback.
