Incredibly rude and racist staff. I wish I could say something went right. Food was incorrect, rude waiter, overpriced and a 1 star rating is more then they deserve. When we to the server the food was wrong she told us to bring it to the counter. WHAT? Should we go cook our food ourselves also? Probably should have and it would have been right. The cooks were all behind counter making comments about how our food was close enough, damn morons. Seriously skip this rat hole and go else where. Baja fish tacos!! $2.25 ea. (all tacos here are $2.25) Warning! these Baja style tacos are infused with crack cocaine. Could cause addiction! My wife and I LOVE them. They are not too filling, and if you order them, make sure to order like two at a minimum. They are on the smaller side, perfect for a light meal. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the fish tacos here. It has been rumored that they sell 5000 fish tacos a month here! You get the point. Good Burgers, fries and handmade wood fired pizzas, too. Beer on tap, wine and sodas. The first thing I noticed was that the tables were littered with napkins and crumbs, and that there seemed to be no sign of an employee coming to clean them up. After cleaning our own table, we ordered, and after 25 minutes, received tiny pizzas. They tasted decent, but the spicy sausage pizza only contained sausages on the lower third of each slice. Sure, before the pizza was cut, having a nice center of sausages was probably aesthetically pleasing. But you know what's not pleasing at all. Picking up a slice and realizing there's only one sausage on it. We decided to order another pizza because we were a large group and hadn't ordered enough, and the order came back wrong the first time. Other than that, the pizzas tasted decent. However, why were the only plates ugly little Dixie paper plates? Not even the large ones, mind you. They gave us those tiny Dixie plates that people only use for microwavable samosas and other finger food. In addition, the napkins were disproportionately enormous. Like, so large that they were taller and wider than my hands. I'm not trying to be petty, but I'm just confused - the attention to detail in this restaurant was just not present and it looked like someone had sent two different people to the dollar store to get plates and napkins. This is my absolute favorite restaurant to get sweet potato fries from. They are crispy, and sweet, and very lightly salted, and I absolutely love the combination of sweet potato fries and a chicken burrito with black beans. Where else can I go to get that fantastic combination?! read more

We were in Murphy's for wine tasting. We asked our host at Frog tooth winery where should we eat dinner? She recommended the fish tacos here. We are so glad we took her recommendation. The fish was excellent it had a tempura type batter that was crispy on the outside and tender and flaky on the inside. We had the meal which came with a choice of beans and Spanish rice. I love black beans and we opted for those. All in all a great meal at a great price. read more

I've never been here before. Food was ok, prices were decent but the service was terrible. No one seemed to be happy to be working. I understand that but it's still your job while your at work to provide at least fake decent customer service. The cashier Sharon was very rude. I ordered the super nachos and just asked what came on them and then requested they just put the veggies on the side. She responded," so you basically want everything on the side". As if it was a HUGE inconvenience. Then they messed up the order and brought us items we didn't order and proceeded to tell me that I did order it. Tacos. Get them. Marvelous. What kind? Doesn't matter. They're all delicious. Pollo, Carnitas, Fish, all of them are tasty. I have not tried the burgers, but I am told by dining companions that they are great. So far, I have not dined with anyone that ordered the pizza, and when I go there, I am on a street taco mission, so I apologize, but I cannot speak for the pizza except to say that it is rumored highly to be quite good. As good as the tacos are, they are a bit overpriced, which I chalk up to location. Murphy's being the tourist attraction mini wine-mecca that it is, and being located on main street, over-charging seems to be a running theme in this town. One of the best things (and in some cases one of the worst things) about Firewood is the decor. Casual, for sure. Odd and quirky, at times, too much so. Many people have mentioned the ax door handle on the entrance door, which is unique and cool. It is also my opinion that they have missed a fantastic opportunity in creating a really great space in the loft section of the place. The industrial style staircase is cool... made even more so by the ax-handle railing. And then that is where they dropped the ball. The potential for that space is vast, and yet somehow they managed to make it look naked and weird, with freaky artwork and zero ambience. It turned out looking like a walk-in kitchen-storage closet, complete with boring cabinets and dirty windows. It appears that they got bored with the decorating once they reached the top of the stairs. Not my idea of a nice space to eat in. It could be so very much more. All that aside, the food at Firewood is worth the trip and I think you will be happy with whatever you decide to order, even if you will have to shell out a few dollars more than you should. Bottom Line: Comparably priced food for this town. Tasty tacos, fast service and a cool little hangout, if you remain downstairs. I'm told the burgers are quite good, and so is the pizza, but you'll have to decide on those yourself, for I am just quoting my dining companions. This place sucks, ,most of the tables were dirty, I order the chicken sandwich it had a lot of old lettuce, the tomato was old, the avocado was black which I paid extra, the bun smell moldy, instead of a chicken patty they use 2 really small frozen chicken strips, the fries were okay, the female cashier had no personality, the salt containers were dirty, one had a dead fly inside and a small piece of chip, I sprinkle some salt on my fries that's when I notice the dead fly and chip, gross, my daughter oder a cheeseburger she only ate half, the meat patty smell old, my husband order the fish and chips, he said it was okay but nothing special,save your money go somewhere else read more

Firewood is a great alternative to the other pricey options in Murphys. It is a order at the counter place so the service is really just delivering food to your table. The night we ate there, they were packed with 20 or so hungry firemen coming off the Mariposa fire. We were told there was going to be a 30-40 minute wait for pizza, which was totally understandable and we appreciated the head's up. My mother and I ordered a Ceasar salad and a bottle of wine to fill in the gap. My husband ordered the mushroom swiss burger. Both were excellent. The salad was easily splittable. The hamburger was huge and came with an abundant helping of fries. The pizza arrived in less that 30 minutes. My 14 year old son devoured the margarita pizza and my mom and I split the proscuitto & arugala pizza and even took a couple pieces home for the next day. The wine and beer prices are very reasonable and they have 4-5 beers on tap. We have never tried the Mexican items, but will keep coming back for the pizza and hamburgers. read more

The people that are writting bad reviews on this restarunt I am guessing dont know too much about pizza, or they have not tried any of the other meals there. I generally get the fish tacos and black beans meal there. This meal is huge. For a grand total of $6 you can be full off this. As for their pizza, it is cooked in a wood fire oven. Now, for those of you that dont know what the major difference between a wood oven and a convection oven like you would find at a normal pizzaria, I will give you a lesson in modern technology. A convection oven, like found at Round Table, or Pizza Hut, uses waves of convection heat to heat the pizza. These waves, actually disperse cold fronts which are found around the item that you are cooking. A standard oven, like one found it your house does not do this. And that is why there can be cold spots on the one found at home, or even spots that were not cooked. It is also the difference between a time frame of about 4 minutes through a convection oven, and a 40 minutes for one that is found in a household. Now, if you took that same pizza, from say...Round Table, and cooked it in a wood stove oven like at Firewood, which is fully run on burning of wood and has a huge open door way...the pizza would take probably over an hour too cook. (In case you couldnt tell, I worked pizza for years) Yes, the pizza is thin, so they can cook it and get it out in around 10 minutes or less. They use a flat bread with less yeast. Their pizza is also much less greesy than one from Pizza Hut. So, consitering, their pizza is actually very good. It is a good atmosphere and the prices are very affordable. I take my brothers and sister there along with my friend and we usually eat till we are full for under $30. If you are not full after eatting here, get another meal. Their average cost is only $6 or so. There is no outdoor seating, but they have a huge roll up door, which the open during business hours and it puts you half outside. read more

My family and I ordered 2 pizzas that we were very excited for. Our margarita pizza came and we quickly told our server I don't think we got the right pizza. It was thin as paper, very dark with cheese that was baked five times too long and had old basil leaves loosely floating around in the middle. We tried a bite, but it wasn't even edible. Our second pizza was decent but a frozen one from my freezer would have Been a Better choice. Getting our money back was great, that's after the rude server and an employee that told me I must wait in line with the pizza my family won't be eating. My lousy phone died, or I would have provided some tempting photos of the deliciousness offered up here. We had been playing in the snow all day, and by 6:30 the entire crew was super dupes ravenous. Stopped in here because we saw kids in the window. Family friendly, loud place= we're in! This is the type of place where you order at the counter, and they bring it to your table. Step 1: have someone in your party secure your table, and advise to look up the menu on their phone and text you their order. The line moved verrrry slowly, BUT- the servers were all helpful and friendly. Naturally, herds of hungry humans stand around making the status of the line confusing at times. It's also hard to scooch by to get to the bathrooms or properly view my booze options for the evening. Just be patient, the crazy line and narrow space will be worth it. Step 2: sit down and prepare to be impressed. Here is the important part- the food was absolutely lovely! I didn't order the pizza, because we get pizza all of the time at home. And just like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, "Big Mistake!" My husband kindly offered some of his. It was unfortunate that his pizza came about 10 minutes before everyone else's food. We couldn't help ourselves. The kids and I ate half of his pizza. I don't even know where to start: the cheese was toasted to perfection, the sauce had just enough flavor, and the dough was so fresh- it was unbelievable. I was filled with regret. Not your average pizza. But, I'll be back ( right, Terminator -I know) My veggie burrito was the real deal. It had tofu and eggplant, and real flavor! Sometimes a veggie burrito is just some beans and cheese that scream "you win, there's no meat in here, I hope you're happy." Not the case here- chili chipotle flavor sauce, cool guacamole, pinto ( or black beans if you want) cheese, and actual non-slimy veggies. My only criticism is that it came wrapped in a plain cold flour white store bought plastic package looking/tasting tortilla. If that were a toasty tasty tortilla, it would have been the veggie burrito that fantasies were made of. I must add that my kids' chicken strips were also so good. The batter on them was far superior to most chicken strips I've had. Normally, those little monkeys leave a lot of leftover food. Not this time, they all commented on how tasty and crispy they were. Full disclosure, I was hoping that I would have scored an extra strip. Nope. Even the scrawny little five year old demolished her dinner. We walked in because we felt it was a good spot for families, and we left full and beyond impressed with the food. Looking forward to returning- and having pizza. read more

We ordered the mushroom pizza, chicken tacos with rice and beans, and a regular salad. Everything was extremely bland. The pizza crust and sauce we're uninspired, and the only redeeming flavors to be found were the mushrooms - but some of them tasted like they'd gone bad. The chicken tacos had no flavor at all. My "full size" salad consisisted of lettuce and three slices of tomato - and could be eaten in three bites. I assume a half size salad would consist of four pieces of lettuce....Pretty disappointing meal. Well, we came from an over an hour and half away to have dinner here. It was recommended by friends and my husband had eaten here before and said the tacos were really good. So we decided to both have the chicken strips and I had a glass of wine (why wouldn't I since I was in Murphy's ). Everyone was safe, wearing masks, but when my husband brought my wine out to me it was in a juice glass. Really? I'm in Murphys where every few steps there is a tasting room, and I get wine in a juice glass! So anyway, our food came out and I quickly realized that they WAAAYYYY over compensate the fries for the lack of chicken strips. My fries alone could have fed a table of 4! They are skinny fries, they would have been much better as some wedge fries! And now the chicken strips... just don't bother. There was more crispy on the outside than chicken on the inside, and they were dry and hard. So I'm not sure about the rest of the menu, but I wouldn't ever get the chicken strips again, and don't expect a wine glass of wine. I saw on a table next to us the rose' was in a can! read more

Their pizza isn't my favorite. However tonight we had the super nachos, which were super yummy. Had real shredded meat, real cheese, delish. We also had turkey burgers. They were also very yummy. Firestone is a local restaurant in downtown Murphys. They have "order at the counter" and seat yourself service. We came on a Friday around noon and it was really packed. The line was to the door and we ended up waiting around 20 minutes to order. I was recommended to order the fish tacos and I'm so glad that I did. I ordered 3 fish tacos ($2.65 each) and that was enough to fill me up. Highly recommend this place for a less expensive place that still has a delicious taste and flavor! read more

Between the flies, food and server attitude this place was no bueno. So many flies were in the dining area we decided to sit under a fan which helped somewhat. I think the big screen that was pulled down in front of the place should have been a clue. We ordered fish tacos since a few locals raved about them. OMG,they were nasty, worst I've ever eaten. I heart this place! It's absolutely perfect for a quick lunch while wine tasting...which is exactly what we were in for. They have a good variety and the layout of the restaurant is cool with nice wood booths and an upstairs area. I had chicken fingers and sweet potato fries (I know, what adult orders chicken fingers? The fish tacos are awesome. We do take out to avoid big lines and the not-so-ambient cinderblocktopia that is the inside of the restaurant. Again, I highly recommend the takeout fish tacos, and it might be pleasant enough to sit during the day if you get one of the two tables by the street. But this is not a place to sit down for an experience. Grounds, Firewood's sister restaurant, is tremendous, and does better on the ambiance side. read more

I do like this restaurant. I love there chicken and carnitas burritos, I like to order w/o beans to much filler and gas. My husband usually orders a fish version of whatever they got he like it too. My kids are very vanilla and only order safe foods like quesadilla's or hamburgers. They do have great hamburgers also, if your into redmeat. read more

Been here a couple of times while in the area and it's just "eh". This time the place was overwhelmed with flies which made dining uncomfortable. The pizza were both overcooked and burned in places and just didn't taste FRESH. Though affordable we felt disappointed. The tacos looked pretty good. Maybe that's the way to go next time?
