We're in town for a concert. We walked over to Murphys from our hotel. Super friendly staff. Place was nice and cool. The pizza was was outstanding! I was only going to eat one slice and save the rest for later...I slammed down 3 slices and had to stop myself. The pizza is amazing. The tomato sauce isn't sweet. Everything tastes so fresh. I had a very disappointing experience here a few weeks ago. We ordered chicken wings and they were served half raw, which is obviously a serious food safety issue. When we brought it to the staff's attention, they did not seem at all concerned, simply said "ok we'll make new ones." It's alarming to be served undercooked chicken, but what made the situation worse was the way it was handled. The staff was extremely rude , staring , felt like laughing at us , & just making it a very obvious & uncomfortable situation. Customer service matters, especially when there's a legitimate issue with the food. Unfortunately, because of the poor food quality and the unprofessional behavior from the staff and owner, I won't ever be returning. read more

On our way back from the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, we wanted to stop by for some food. Although there were many options with better reviews, we wanted pizza. We were extremely skeptical as the overall review average was below 4 stars. So we agreed that if we didn't like the pizza, we could go across the street for some Mexican food. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a smile. We could smell the aromas from the kitchen. The inside of the restaurant was a little dark. It seems like it would be a good place to hang out with friends for pizza and beer. We ordered the Todays Special: Chicken Bbq Bacon w/ Green Onions After about 15-20 minutes, they brought out our pizza. Still skeptical we looked inside the box. I was hit with an aroma of cheese and bbq, and grabbed a slice to taste. The cheese pull just taking the slice out was amazing. Even upon the first bite, the cheese pull stretched as if I was filming for a YouTube video. If only I had been recording it! The flavor of the pizza was delicious. You could taste the different cheeses used to craft the pizza. The green onions and bbq sauce brought sweet and tangy flavors that elevated each bite. The crust had a perfect ratio of crisp and chew, it wasn't doughy or dry. We were all caught by surprise, wondering why the ratings were so low for good pizza and friendly staff. I shop at Murphys market and one day recently I decided to order a Murphys Pizza Co pizza and shop while it's being made. I ordered one of the daily specials. Got home and briefly reheated the pizza in my convection oven. It was marvelous! So flavorful and generous with toppings, there was a subtle richness and umami you don't often find. Since then, I have been back several times and each time I am pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness of flavor and quality. I tried them again last night and was blown away. I ordered the meatball calzone for a friend, and the Thai Peanut Chicken pizza for myself. My friend said the calzone was the best "Italian thing" he ever had. And my Thai pizza inspired me to write this recommendation. After I ordered it and was grocery shopping, I began to regret my choice. I thought, oh here we go, a pizza made of the bright, but trite pseudo-Thai ingredients. I was no longer in the mood. But when I got it home, popped it into the convection oven, and took a bite, so many nuisances whelmed me. Yes, the Thai flavors were there, but only as an echo to the other great pizza flavors. It was also so rich, subtle and loaded with indescribable umami. It gave me pause to slow-down and savor each bite thoroughly. Each of the pizzas and calzones I've had from Murphys Pizza Co have definitely been artisanal. Someone there is a master of flavor profiles. But get this... I find their elevated pizza at significantly less than Round Table in Angels Camp, or the pizza place in Arnold. I hope you will try this place. read more

The service was absolutely horrible! My large party was discriminated against and the owner went right along with it. An employee excused their rude behavior by saying they "didn't know where we came from!" We could barely eat the pizza as all the toppings fall right off when you pick up a slice. Arriving here we were in a good attitude and demeanor. Ordering the food we were racially profiled and treated differently from the other families eating here. Staff was friendly and inviting while we were deciding on our order. They answered questions with a smile. The menu was extensive for a pizza place and had a good beer selection. My wife had a pizza salad sandwich thing (forget what they called it) which she really liked and she has some dietary restrictions which they happily made sure they met. We were in town for a couple days to play in the snow and decided to head out here for some pizza. Big R is the meat lovers combo and it was fantastic. Kids had a smaller sized pepperoni and cheese. Staff was nice and served out the food. It took 30 mins to get the pizza but it came out steaming hot, kids had to cool theirs off for a few mins. Drinks out of the soda fountain was nicely carbonated. Environment was great with the arcade and the chalkboard was a nice touch. We walked up to order a Chicken Pesto calzone, to go. I noticed we got charged for a take-out box. To make matters worse, the computer screen asked for a tip on top of this. We come a few times a year when visiting Murphy's. It's always cold and dark in the dining room, not great ambiance (yes, even for a pizza joint) but the food is always decent. Tonight my mom had 1/2 a small pizza to take home. She asked the owner for foil instead of a box, explained we were in a hotel and foil would be easier. His reply 'well it's easier for me to give you a box" and walked away. Your food/establishment isn't good enough for you to treat customers like that...sorry. The pizza here is delicious! I would have given them 5 stars if not for their lack of respect for COVID-19 safety measures. The fact that we had to push them to accept credit card payment by phone was disappointing, and the fact that the staff member who brought our pizza out to our car for "curbside pick up" wasn't wearing a mask was downright startling and upsetting. My husband and I picked up lunch for 5 of us, and the food was consistently great! We got: 1) The combination pizza - this was excellent, fresh and flavorful. The sausage was especially tasty. 2) Thai curry pizza - my mom enjoyed this, and we appreciated their ability to accommodate my mom's gluten allergy by providing a gluten free crust 3) Wings - delicious - we wished we had gotten a full order instead of a half order! The ordering process on the phone was smooth - we appreciated the fact that the order taker repeated our order to us to confirm its accuracy. The disappointing part came when she was hesitant to accept our credit card info on the phone (we mentioned we wanted to do this for safety and convenience), and said the only instance in which they could do that was if we were uncomfortable coming inside and preferred curbside pick up. We responded that curbside pick up sounded great. Given this, we were not at all pleased when our order was brought out to us by a staff member not wearing a mask. He also wasn't very friendly and seemed grumpy. Overall, we loved the food here, but wish they were taking Covid more seriously. We loved their pizza! We've visited Arnold/Murphys for a few years now and this was the first time trying their pizza and we really enjoyed it! Their crust was sweet, soft and the right thickness. They have a little arcade for the kids and a huge chalk board wall. Their Cobb salad was yummy as well. The owner was kind and professional. The only thing is that they didn't have AC so I would probably avoid eating at the restaurant on a very hot day. read more

The pizza here is top notch. Ooey gooey and packed full of flavor. We came for lunch after a day trip hiking Big Trees this past summer on our way up north and the restaurant wasn't busy. It's in a shopping complex which took us a few moments to orient ourselves, but once we opened the door, the waft of baking pizzas was mesmerizing and I knew this would be good. The ordering system leaves a bit to be desired, but the staff was great. We ordered a cheese pizza and my sister ordered a gluten free pizza with no dairy cause she has those allergies. Her pizza was okay (according to her) ours was awesome! Great crust and the cheeses were perfect (we ordered fresh mozzerella as the topping.) They have long rows of tables which suited us just fine. There's a small arcade for the kids to keep themselves busy and they have a large chalkboard with different colored chalks for the kids to draw with on one of the large walls. I'm torn as I come camping in this area every summer but like to teach my kids to cook camping style so I'm not sure coming here fits in to this, but I really want to come back!
