Stop by this nice restaurant while visiting Murphys. The server was so kind and friendly. It did seem like they were the only customer-viewing employee at the time. Which makes sense as it was the morning. He did take our order, serve us, and was the bartender. He did every thing with a smile and truly embodies customer service. Great job, bro! Not the Experience We Hoped for on a Special night We came in tonight as a party of five to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday. She was really looking forward to a filet mignon--it's her absolute favorite meal, something she doesn't get often because of how pricey it is. Unfortunately, her steak missed the mark in a few ways. While it was cooked to her requested medium rare, the bottom had been seared to the point of being burnt, leaving a bitter crust. I tasted it myself just to be sure she wasn't being picky, and I agreed--it wasn't right. It was also a bit chewier than a filet should be, so either the cut wasn't great or that particular piece slipped through quality control. What really threw it off, though, was the sauce. It was completely drenched in what seemed like a red wine reduction--dark, overpowering, and just not a good match for the filet. It smothered the flavor of the steak and didn't belong on the plate, especially not in that amount. Now, mistakes happen in kitchens. That wasn't the biggest issue. The real disappointment came when our server asked how everything was. I politely started to give feedback about my daughter's dish, and before I could even finish, he cut me off with: "Well, I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do about that." No offer to fix it, no curiosity about what the issue was, not even a "thanks for letting us know." Just a full stop. It felt dismissive, especially considering this was a birthday dinner--my daughter chose this place hoping for something special. There are so many things he could've said or done, even if it was as simple as acknowledging the feedback or offering a small gesture to make her feel heard. The rest of the food was solid, but that moment really soured the experience. It's frustrating when someone asks for honest feedback, then clearly doesn't care to hear it. I recently visited Toscano's Restaurant in Murphys, California, for dinner with friends, anticipating a delightful evening. Unfortunately, the experience took a disappointing turn, starting with the dinner itself. The restaurant was quite busy and loud, making it difficult for us to even talk to each other. This dampened our enjoyment of the meal, and things only got worse when it came time for dessert. After finishing our meals, we decided to order some desserts to go--tiramisu and cheesecake brûlée. When our desserts arrived, I noticed that while we did receive the tiramisu, the other dessert was not the cheesecake brûlée we had ordered. Instead, they brought out a regular crème brûlée. With our original waiter nowhere to be found, I flagged down another waitress to inform her that the order was incorrect. They took it back and, after a wait, returned with what appeared to be some kind of cinnamon cobbler with ice cream. However, this still wasn't what we had ordered. I approached the staff once more to clarify the issue. This time, the bartender, who was different from our original waiter, came to our table with a surprising response. She told us that because this was the second time they had replaced the dessert, we were responsible for paying for it, even though it wasn't what we ordered. Despite our insistence that we never asked for cinnamon cobbler, the bartender maintained that we were at fault for the mix-up and would need to pay for something we didn't order. We asked to speak to the manager, but the waitress informed us that the manager had said we needed to pay for the dessert. At this point, we told the waitress that we didn't want to argue with her. We agreed to pay for the dessert but made it clear that we would never return to the restaurant. After we paid the bill, we tried to explain that it was unfair to charge us for a dessert we didn't order. She responded dismissively, saying, "Well, you paid the bill, now you can leave, and you said you will not come back, so bye." It was frustrating to be talked to in that manner by younger staff members working at the restaurant. They really need to get it together. What should have been a simple resolution to a minor mistake turned into an unpleasant confrontation. We recently had dinner with another couple at Toscano's in the Sierra foothills town of Murphys. We began our meal with a delicious calamari appetizer, and some bruschetta with fresh tomatoes. I then ordered a veal marsala as my entree, and my wife decided on a shrimp pasta. Both of them very good. The problem was the service. While my wife was in the middle of eating her food, a waitress comes over and asks if she wants to see the dessert menu. While we're all eating this happens no less than 3 times. Maybe they had an abundance of pie, who knows, but it was most annoying! Somebody needs to give the staff some training... read more

Decided to spend a couple hours in Murphys because it's such a cute area for wine tasting. I had never been to Tuscanos but my friend had raved about it so I thought I'd give it a try. The appetizers were surprisingly tasty. How much can you expect from chicken wings, calamari and bruschetta? The chicken wings were covered in this tangy/garlicky sauce that just punched your mouth with flavor. They're definitely finger licking good. One order was not enough for four hungry adults. The bruschetta was light, refreshing and flavorful; and the calamari was thankfully not soggy or tasteless which can easily happen. The Caesar salad was good, I certainly finished it, but I cannot tell if I ate it all because I was soo hungry or because it was so good nonetheless it satisfied my craving. The Philly sandwich unfortunately lacked seasoning and the pasta was good but nothing spectacular. The service was great, seemed like there were only two ladies working the whole restaurant and they managed to do an excellent job. read more

First time visit! Will return! I can only comment on our experience although my daughter and her husband dined at another time and they also enjoyed. We started with the antipasto tray for 4. Outstanding variety all good quality meats cheeses, olives! It was paired nicely with the Stevenot Chardonnay. I had the chicken piccata served with mashed potatoes and mixed seasonal veggies (zucchini) All excellent. Everyone in our group liked their meals! The highlight was dessert. What happened to the Toscanos we loved? We hosted another large dinner party there last night and were disappointed. The noise level made it impossible to talk even across the table and our server had to yell. There's likely nothing they can do about the noise level but this was the worst it's ever been and made for a less than pleasant evening among friends. As in previous visits, we'd arranged for a reduced corkage fee on making the reservation and we were charged corkage fees for every bottle, which my husband challenged and had to force the issue with the manager on duty in front of our guests. He was a different manager than the person we made reservations with over the phone the week before and on previous occasions. We were told that "that was before" and "reduced corkage now only applied if the wine was the same, not reds and whites mixed" (not mentioned when we made the reservation so if you're making special arrangements get it in writing). The manager on duty finally agreed to make an exception "this one time". Note we had a healthy bar bill on the table too so it wasn't like the wine we brought in was the only alcohol being ordered or served. The menu has changed (eg the favorite of many--the risotto--has been disappointingly removed); splitting a large Caesar's salad isn't split into two bowls as before and when questioned when it was served on one plate that that's the way they do it now and the other person uses their bread plate; the salmon penne pasta was literally swimming in pesto sauce and the two people who ordered it wouldn't order it again. Servers were attentive though despite the noise and we appreciated the efforts they made. We didn't recognize any of the old crew there but being a Sunday night maybe it was a different staff than usual. We're wondering if Toscano's is under new management? Different chef? We will go back but will host large parties elsewhere in the future. And though Toscanos is still a good place in Murphys to eat, it's not the shining star we once thought it was. read more

I've been thinking about going to Toscano's for a while so Wednesday we took off for Murphys. Wednesday nights in Murphys during the fall are quiet so it was no surprise that the restaurant wasn't crowded when we got there. Our server Kallen greeted us right away we had our choice of seats. Right after we sat another server brought us warm sourdough baguette drizzled with garlic butter and a balsamic vinegar/olive oil dipping tray. We ordered wine and went over the menu. All types of dishes were offered,Classic Italian fare. We ordered the antipasto tray that had two cheeses,two types of olives, sliced meats,pepprocinis with a balsamic drizzle.It was enough for four. A group of us were visiting Murphy's on a pretty busy weekend, after a reservation malfunction at the V Bar we popped into Toscanos to see if they could for us in. The staff was incredibly accommodating and quickly set up a 6 top. The food was amazing - mushroom ravioli was the bomb!! read more

Toscano's has great food. So start there. I would recommend you try when in the area. The challenge part for me is the service. Went with family of four. After ordering food they brought 2 of the three drinks we ordered. My soft drink was not delivered. I had to ask. Then the young lady asked if we wanted more bread. We said yes please but never came. No refills on water. I could have used that more than the soft drink. Felt a little left off the service radar except when it was time to pay. No offer on dessert or even a quick check by waitress to check in during our meal. Which in this case would have been easy solves. This level of service was reflected in my tip. Food is top notch but the service is not what we expected. I want to come back but willing to try other places. This was my second go around here. The first time was me thinking they are just busy. Which they are. However, the service didn't meet expectations this time as well. I really want to like this place and feel like a valued customer, not an inconvenience. read more

Have been to Toscano's twice and the food and service is incredible. I made reservations one day, called the next day to request outside seating and they didn't have my reservation. I made a new reservation for outside. Called later that day to add an extra diner, but they had no reservation again. Made a third reservation for outside. When we arrived, they only had a table for 4 inside. We were eventually put at a table for 6. Other than that, it was a beautiful night, and we'll be back soon! read more

We arrived a few minutes after 5 without a reservation. There were only a few open tables. We requested to sit on the porch. Two heaters were on. They brought ice teas and a Newsome-Harlow Sauvignon Blanc very quickly. Impressed that the wines were all local. Extra points for supporting our community. Water glasses were kept filled. By 6:00 all tables were taken. Started with the calamari rings and tentacles. It was lightly breaded just as we like. My only suggestion is to serve it with a second dipping sauce, such as a garlic aioli or marinara. The tartar sauce was too sweet for us. House salad and Caesar, half portions, arrived. Dressings for both could have been better. Caesar dressing needed anchovies. Vinaigrette needed to be taken up a notch,Salads were fresh greens and well made. Entrees Fruti de Mare Rissoto was delicious. Mussels, shrimp, calamari, scallops in a very flavorful red sauce. Chicken Fra Diablo was disappointing. Diablo means you expect heat. The dish was bland. Antipasto A nice assortment of cheeses and meats, olives, peppers. I would definitely eat that again. Service was excellent. Thank you Sarah and crew. The crew was hustling and did a great job. This restaurant has only been open for 2 weeks. I'm very impressed with what they have accomplished in that short time period. I know there are things that need to be worked out. We had a very disappointing dinner tonight. We had made reservations a couple of weeks ago by phone and were never asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor dining. It was 43°, raining and very cold. They did not have any open tables in the restaurant so they sat us in the outside patio, which was covered & had a heat lamp, but it was still very cold. The servers kept coming through the drape and leaving it open, which was allowing the cold, wet air to come blowing into the covered patio. Also, our server kept forgetting to bring us things we asked for and had to be reminded. My pasta dish was good but my first wine choice was unavailable. Then I heard the server telling somebody at another table that their beer choice was unavailable so I think they have an ordering problem. My husband said that his spaghetti and meatballs was like something that was served out of a can. Then they sat a couple next to us with a dog that was very ill-behaved and kept barking and moving all over the place. I would never recommend this place and we definitely won't be going back. read more

Sitting at the bar during an extremely busy Friday night it was a pleasure to observe the kitchen and service staff communicate and work together. We came here for the first time last night. We were the only people there . So service was good since we were the only ones. The food was terrible . Pasta wasn't cooked enough and not much flavor. But our biggest issue was we got the bill and we noticed that the tax was very high. We questioned the server and he said no taxes went up that's how it is. Well we calculated it and they had us at 16.5 % tax rate. The server wanted to argue about it and said he thinks that's how it is . He went back to the office when we came back he gave us the same receipt and said ya my manager said it was a mistake here is your change for the difference "I just did the math on my phone." Who know how long they have been doing this ! I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE and will try to file a more formal complaint for adjusting the tax rate. read more

You have people eating on the patio, and your hours say you are open until 8, but at 305pm on a Sunday afternoon your staff and the sign on the door says you are closed and don't open until 5pm. Turned around at angels camp to go back up to Murphys since the restaurant sounded good. Lesson learned to call the restaurant next time, but honestly who closes on a Sunday afternoon on a weekend in a tourist town. read more

The food was flavorful. Unfortunately, the dish I ordered, Scampi, was NOT Shrimp Scampi. I was confused with the name vs the description of the dish but held my tongue and did not ask since our waitress had no knowledge of dishes on the menu and told us she thinks the creamy Romano sauce was lemony, creamy garlic sauce, umm. Their Scampi came with a lemon cream sauce which was not Scampi (sauce recipe) we are used to. And if they intended to use Scampi as to mean Shrimp, it's also incorrect. Scampi != Shrimp, it's langoustines. Overall, the services need improvement. There were a lot of little things with services through out the meal. * If any item on the menu was not available or sold out, please state so when handling out the menu at seating. * The appetizer plates need to be picked up before serving the main dishes. I had to stack them in a pile because there was no space on the table for the waitpersons to put the food and they all were holding the main dishes waiting for us to bus the table then asked if they should take those empty plates away.
