You may ask yourself "that worth it?" Yes very! Now that I have moved out here, and found this little gem, you bet I have gone here many times. My husband's favorite is the smokehouse beef & cheddar brisket, I prefer the New York steamer. But both sandwiches are to die for! With a nice juicy pickle and chips or cookie! And your set! Well I am very disappointed in both GrubHub and the Oceanside Firehouse Subs. I placed an order about an hour ago. I thought everything was fine. I noticed that my computer showed that the guy had delivered my sandwich. He claimed it was on my front porch. It is not here. When I tried to call him and sort this out, he was so hard to understand, I finally hung up on him. I have paid about $30.00 for air!! Nobody tried to make this situation right. The driver kept arguing with me (at least I thing he was, I didn't understand a word this guy from Chicago said, but from his tone of voice I could tell he was mad at ME and didn't offer to fix the situation.) I've never been to this place but I decided to come check it out. I really didn't know what to expect I just thought it was going to be like Subway well I was wrong and I'm glad I was wrong. They have a lot more toppings and different types of meats. The sandwich I got was pretty good and the price wasn't too bad. They were a lot of people inside eating which tells me this place is doing something good. Would I come here again? Yes I would but it's a little out of my way. Of all the chain-store sub shops out there (Subway, Jersey Mike's, Port O' Subs, Submarina), I think Firehouse is the best. They make some of the tastiest sammies I've ever had from a fast sandwich shop, all made to order and all delicious. They have hot and cold options, and the large ones are truly large - they will fill you up like a broken pipe fills up your basement (but without the dirt and bugs 'n stuff). My favorite is the Engineer. They have a great loyalty program too, and you can buy those big red 5-gallon buckets that their pickles are shipped in to use around the yard or just stick your head into and smell the pickle smell (I've never done it, honest... riiiiight). They also donate a portion of their proceeds to firefighting organizations, which I love. One caveat: be VERY CLEAR in your ordering, since the register staff tends to be on the young and inexperienced side (which is cool; kids need to have opportunities), and if you don't tell them EXACTLY what you want, you may be surprised. I ordered their New York sub with pastrami and corned beef. With drink and chips, it cost me nearly $15. I had to deduct a star for the price, and the price alone was the reason for the deduction. So I asked Lola to hook it up with the fixings she liked the best (lettuce and pickles - definitely do it) and waited for my order. All I can say is that I was hooked on the first bite. It was hard to tell where the pastrami ended and the corn beef began - it was all so tender and juicy that the flavor blended together into each bite. The bread was fresh, the Italian dressing enhanced the flavor, and the tangy pickles added a satisfying crunch. And for a medium, that sandwich was yuge! And completely filling. On the way to visit our friends in San Diego we stopped by to grab a quick bite. We yelped and this joint showed up with good ratings. We ordered their New York pastrami combo and a chicken sandwich. Total with tax came to $19.95. Pros: Ambiance is unique. Ian absolutely loved the Fire station setup. (+1) New York pastrami was good. TV's playing games. Cons: Coke machine was more like a puzzle. Too many options. Price was $2.00 more than what I would normally pay for the taste and quantity. I've always loved Firehouse Subs. I prefer it 100% more than Subway, Jimmy Johns, etc. The establishment is pretty well kept & their sandwiches are pretty decently sized, made, & taste pretty well. When my husband & I come here, our orders are always the same (we don't like change very much - since the Marine Corps seems to do that to us naturally lol). I always get the chicken bacon ranch on wheat (usually a 6 inch because I can't finish anything bigger than that) & my husband gets a 12 inch meatball sub (& finds a way to finish it lol). I've never written a negative review towards a food establishment before because I understand how hard it can be working in that industry. But I have to say this location was such a disappointment :( I completely understand when a place is understaffed, I will always cut them some slack. But tonight there were about 5 employees behind the counter along with a manager and it didn't seem like any of them were aware of all the people waiting. I have been coming to Firehouse for years, and this will be my last visit. The sandwiches have gotten worse and so have the employees. It seems like they have a very high turnover rate. I love this place and as a matter of fact my wife and 2 sons also love their food, their service, and the atmosphere there. The place is always very clean, the employees are always friendly, and their food is put together in a timely manner and is delicious. They have no problems with special orders and quite often if our order is to go, they will give us a free drink while we wait otherwise, they have no problem in offering a cup at no cost for water. This is a perfect example of bad management. Sometimes I conduct training classes for my company. Often times we receive Firehouse Subs catering for our lunch. Every single time I have been impressed with the quality and taste of the food. It's nothing special, just your normal sandwich items but it must be the freshness and quality of their product that makes them so good. Anyhow, every time II had it I tell my self that I should actually go get a sandwich from them on my own. I finally did the other day and was so disappointed. Yes, the quality and taste of the food was still great but sadly everything else was awful. The service was bad and terribly, terribly, slow. As in completely, unacceptably slow. I am so torn because I love their sandwiches but oh my gosh, their service is PAINFUL! They have one amazing employee, Dane. So, about a week ago I came in and ordered (story is below) and wasn't up to normal standards. I finally got ahold of the manager and let me tell you it was amazing. He kept apologizing and saying that their standard is much higher and offered to rectify the situation by giving me a sandwich meal with drink and chips, on the house. David, sweet guy, said to come in whenever I could and my food would be waiting. I came in today and ordered, they all apologized and made me feel important. I love this place and support the cause. Came here for lunch on my birthday because the trick is if you show your ID verifying it's your birthday, you get a free 8" sub. At first I was thinking... 8"?! That's huge! But don't be fooled, it's really not. I ordered the Italian and it was good. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of baked subs, but I will never complain about a free meal. Food: similar to Subway quality. I ordered the Steak and Cheese because it looked to good in the picture. When I received my sub, it looked nothing like the picture. They skimp you on the steak and hardly put any cheese or peppers on there. The bread was dry and definitely not fresh tasting. The flavor in the steak was ok, but it was scarce. I was let down by going off what the picture of the steak shows on the advertisement. Tons of different hot sauces to try here from 1-10 in heat strength. I tried their version of hot sauce and it was not hot at all and tasted more like BBQ sauce. The soda machine is Coke product and it is digital so they have a large variety of flavors. They have unsweetened and sweetened ice tea next to the soda machines too. I chose to go with an Arnold Palmer (unsweet tea and lemonade minute made lite). They have lemon wedges in this section as well. Service: service was pretty good. There was a mic lady that helped us. I got a free soda for downloading their app and signing up for their emails. You receive award points for each visit and the amt of money you spend here. We ordered our food to dine-in and it was brought out to us in a bag to go. Someone else received their food from the lady working and she dropped the bag on the floor and then handed it to the gentleman. She didn't even as if he wanted a different sandwich. My sandwich looked like it was dropped on the floor too, but it wasn't. Parking: lot is shared with many other places. Parking can get crappy on a busy weekend. We had no trouble on a weekday in October around 1p. Atmosphere: this is the best thing about this place. Very cool and everything is related to the heros.
