Club Sandwich
John P.

Firehouse subs is a chain restaurant with a cause. They help out local fire departments by giving a portion of their sales back to those departments. The interior of the room is decorated in definite firehouse scene with a local firehouse and local fire engine mural on the wall, as well as other fire things hanging on the walls to let people know. I like to come here because not only is the food good but the cause is good as well. I ordered a club sandwich, was about seven or 8 inches long. I ordered it what they call fully involved, which is mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles on white bread with turkey and ham and Monterey Jack cheese. It is warmed up, but not as a full sandwich. The meat is warmed up separately and then put onto the sandwich and then wrapped. For sides they offer a number of different things like chips, cookie, brownie, mac & cheese, chili, soup or side salad, but I didn't get any of those today. the sandwich was good. It was hot. It was juicy and it was well-made. While the gentleman that greeted me at the register was nice. He walked past me a couple times first before he actually came to take my order. In addition, the dining room is usually pretty dirty and messy, which doesn't make it great answer for a place to sit. I took mine to go so, didn't have to deal with that today. I would still recommend it for the food and cause. It is a little more expensive, but I assume that is because they have added something on top of their costs to help with their fire house donations.

Jamaican Jerk Turkey

Always good when I come here. The customer service is great! It's a lady in the front that always does a great job on informing the customers what the best options are. I got the Jamaican Jerk Turkey. Delicious! Very meaty. Always clean inside of the restaurant. But then again I always go on Sunday after my meeting.

I want to say that I have been to many Firehouse Subs locations in multiple states. This was my first visit to the Beech Grove location. This location is in a strip mall next to a Sherwin Williams and an auto place. The location is a large size, but not as decorated as I've seen at other locations. I went inside and saw 3 employees behind the counter, I was the only customer in the place. I just want to start off and say they were out of white bread yet had 2 large boxes of wheat? I placed my order with the young kid at the register, and then one of the other guys started making the food. As I waited for my food to be ready, I noticed the unclean tables and floor. The manager went into the little room/office and disappeared. The kid at the register just stood there looking bored. He should have grabbed some cleaner and a towel and started wiping down the dirty tables. My food was ready so I grabbed my bag and left. Now, I love Firehouse Subs and I was so excited that I found this location. I can tell you that my Engineer sub was not that great, and the wheat bread was hard and tasted old. My husbands sandwich was less than great as well. He said they don't put any love into their sandwiches out here?? I said nope, not at all! Unfortunately, this was my first and last time visiting this location. It's so sad, but at this rate...I don't see this location lasting another year.

There is no reason that it should take 25+ mins to make one to go sub sandwich. Absolutely ridiculous

Little pricey for a sandwich but you'll easily taste why. Friendly staff.. ordering ahead on the website works great if you're in a rush.

I decided to head South a…read morebit and journey my way through Beech Grove to see what I could find open on this holiday weekend. I'd long been curious about 5th Ave Grill and Bar, but for some reason I'd never stopped in. Today, I did. 5th Ave Grill and Bar is located right on the Main Street strip in Beech Grove. It's, you guessed it, a grill and bar. It's also, you guessed it, on 5th and Main Street. Beech Grove is pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to accessible businesses on Main Street. Fortunately, 5th Ave is pretty solid with a slightly slanted entryway and even a few tables for outdoor dining. Most nights of the week, they host either events or live music. On this day, they had a solid but not necessarily large crowd. As it's race day here in Indy, the Indy 500 was on most (but not all) channels. I was served fairly quickly. It always feels weird to order an iced tea in a bar, but I'm always grateful when they have it. I took some time to browse the menu. It's mostly your standard bar fare with several burgers, pizza, some handhelds, and a few other items. It's worth noting that handhelds don't come with a side - that's extra (chips or fries for $3 with the ability to upgrade the fries to a specialty for another $3). I opted for the breaded tenderloin sandwich. I added fries to it - I was pleased to see that they were steak fries. The tenderloin is definitely hand-breaded. It's a healthy size. It's what I'd call a good but not quite great sandwich. I didn't quite finish it, though that's partly because my always desired iced tea refill took a bit to actually get. The atmosphere? It's a bar. It's loud, though not unbearably so. People were being social (as is true for most bars). Accessibility was solid. I moved a chair away from a table, and it looked like most aisles were passable. I did not check out restrooms. Overall, I'd call this a very solid 4-star experience all the way. The service was solid. The food was good. The atmosphere was friendly. I enjoyed my time here and would easily return.

However, as I parked I spied Sleepy Hollow Gourmet Deli & Cafe along with a Jack's Donuts. I was curious. So, I wheeled over and realized they were like conjoined culinary twins. I detoured my plans and decided to hang out at Sleepy Hollow, a delightfully named establishment (though I do wish they'd lean into the decor a bit more) for this Irvington-set restaurant. Jack's does seem to be the dominant force here. There are donuts, bagels, cookies, and even kolaches. The prices are surprisingly affordable. Drinks include hot coffee, iced coffee, lattes, boba energy, and Pepsi products. They do have both sweet and unsweetened iced tea. The menu also includes Choc-ola! The deli menu includes toasted subs (every sub has 1/4-pound of meat and you can go double for an extra price). They use Boar's Head meats. You can get chips and a soft drink to make it a combo. This strip center is always a little hit-and-miss in terms of access, however, with some nearby road construction it seems just a bit slower and I was able to find a spot that improved my accessibility. If you go to the door by the entrance, the curb has a bit of a step to it. If you go to the end of the aisle, there's a smooth and level section to make it all easily work. The interior itself is nicely laid out and easily accessible. The employees were super friendly. They also offer catering. There's a combination of higher-top tables and regular tables. Business was fairly steady, however, I had no issue finding a place to sit. I ended up ordering a chicken salad sandwich that was a healthy size and quite tasty. I grabbed a bag of chips and my usual unsweetened iced tea. Pricing was right about $13. Overall, I was quite pleased and I would easily return. Whether you're seeking donuts or a deli sandwich, Sleepy Hollow (or Jack's) is an ideal place to stop in.

I had heard nothing but good things about this place, so I was very happy to have the opportunity to try their sandwiches. This is a very small space, with a very small kitchen, so it takes a minute for the food to come out, but it is done per order and very fresh, so it is worth the wait. The ambiance is old fashioned in my mind, but very cute and suitable for a sandwich place. I ordered the Milanesa de Polo Sandwich, which is a chicken tenderloin sandwich, and a side of the fried sweet potatoes. The food actually came out in a decent amount of time,so I was shocked and surprised, but very pleased at the same time. As expected, the food was incredible and terrific like I thought it would be. The sandwich was huge and had to use a knife and fork to eat it. The fried sweet potatoes were excellent and had a nice texture. They were very flavorful. The sandwich tasted amazing and was one of the best chicken tenderloin sandwiches I have ever had since living in Indy. Now I see why everyone loves this place so much, because the sandwiches are high quality and just so perfect!! Our server was wonderful and gave great recommendations on the menu items. Her recommendations were spot on and everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. The steak is also incredible, so I would highly recommend the Lolo Supreme sandwich. Don Juan V's sandwiches is a wonderful mom and pop business in Indy that is worth checking out if you are looking for a fresh good sandwich. Given it is a small venue, you may have to wait a bit for your food to be prepared and delivered to your table, so will need to have some patience if you dine inside, but trust me, it is worth it and you will not be disappointed. The sandwiches are just that amazing!!

I had passed this location on the way and thought I'd check them out since I had never had it. I got the Italian sandwich, brownie, and a side of the pepper relish. Big mistake. I couldn't stand more than three bites and that was because I was starving. I threw almost this whole sandwich away. The brownie was pretty good and kind of reminded me of Chick-fil-A. That pepper relish was really delicious and all of the veggies were super fresh, but limited. You can miss me with that meat though. The bread wasn't that great either. It was a floral kind of sweet with the addition of a hint of rose. The pink foam colored with strawberry and beet powders adds to the overall cutesy effect! I also got a cocoa brownie ($2.50, about a 3-inch square) and that is surely chocolatey. I didn't find it to be too sweet but it doesn't lack in that department either.
