We used Fireclay's own installation services on our shower and bathroom floor for an ADU we've been constructing in our backyard. We were really happy with the whole process from start to finish. Their designer Mark Jacques helped us choose different type options in their SF showroom, provided high-quality design mock-ups for two different designs we were considering, and helped us carefully order the perfect amount of tile with just the right amount of overage. This was our first real construction project and we had a bunch of questions on the installation quote that they provided us. Martin answered all of our questions with patience, and Brieanna provided the most communicative project management that we have experienced, especially compared to other service providers we have used. Ivan and Alfredo did a wonderful job with the installation, and they happily answered my questions during the process on-site. Our installation included a floor heating system which they were able to help spec out an carefully install. The end result looks beautiful and we can't wait to try out the heater as soon as our the electricity gets connected! We have dreams of using Fireclay installation again for future remodel work in our main house. read more

Title: Fireclay Botched Our Shower Installation -- Now, we're left with a mess We chose Fireclay Tile for our shower renovation, purchasing their 3x12 Egret glass tile along with installation services and insurance. What we got was a failed install, a grout color that didn't match the sample, and a company unwilling to take real responsibility. Fireclay performed the installation themselves and provided installation insurance, which gave us initial confidence. But they didn't even follow their own installation guidelines, which clearly state to follow all manufacturer-recommended procedures for grout and to conduct a small test area before proceeding. They skipped that step entirely. They used Laticrete Frosty grout, which looked nothing like the sample shown during the design process. When we raised concerns, Fireclay admitted the issue and offered to "fix" it by painting the grout with Laticrete Refresh colorant. The sample board they provided matched -- and we were initially relieved -- until we read the fine print and learned that the product is not rated to hold up long term in wet areas like showers. Worse, their sample application was sloppy, with paint streaking onto adjacent tiles. We declined the fix. Bottom line: Fireclay self-insures, takes consumers' money, and fails to back it up with quality or accountability. Their CEO, Eric Edelson addressed our concern and stated: "Our job was too small to do a mockup grout test, that is reserved for larger jobs." This isn't just bad service -- it's deceptive. we will be pursuing legal action. Our bathroom still isn't finished from this sh__t show. No other contractors want to touch their mess. Beautiful tile means nothing if it's installed incorrectly, and the company won't stand behind it. Fireclay failed us -- and they may fail you too. Fireclay Tile design and installation team were extremely helpful and professional. We purchased Fireclay tile about six years ago for our kitchen, and went back for tile to update a bathroom. Mark was very helpful with tile selection, helping us narrow down tile sizes and colors. We left the store with several samples. On our second visit, we learned about the next steps with installation, and that Martin would be contacting us for an appointment to measure the bathroom and finalize the design. It was very easy to schedule the installation appointment with Martin. He came out, listened to what we were trying to do and gave suggestions, and answered our questions about the installation process. We did a whole house remodel and I chose Fireclay Tile for our kids' bathroom. I went to the showroom in Berkeley where the amazing sales team helped me think through a bunch of options and even had their designers mock up renderings so I could visualize the installed tile. There was a 6-8 week lead time on the tile but it was worth the wait. I was excited to learn that Fireclay Tile had their own installation team and ended up hiring them to do the tile installation for our whole house (including rooms that did not utilize Fireclay brand tiles). The installation team was professional, thorough, communicative and friendly. They consulted me about every preference and option and didn't do anything without my enthusiastic approval. We used a lot of antique tiles and uneven natural stones and they installed it all with care and precision. They were truly some of my favorite subcontractors of our whole project! Can't say enough great things about Martin Brookes. Our shower started leaking and even though all signs pointed to a plumbing issue rather than a tiling one, Martin offered to come by and test the shower pan. Of course, as we both expected, the pan is 100% fine, and the leak is in the plumping pipes one floor down. My point is that Martin stands by his work in a way I haven't seen from any other contractor. Truly outstanding service. It's hard to get anyone to do a small job in the Bay Area, much less one that you need fixed ASAP. My bathroom tub surround was not properly waterproofed and needed immediate attention bc the leak was coming thru the lobby ceiling of the condo. During our remodeling effort with our house in complete disarray, our contractor who thought he could do tiling, completely messed-up the tiling of our shower. We were pretty upset so we called Martin from Heritage Marble and Tile. He came right over, assessed the situation and told us the shower had to be redone and was beyond repair. We hired him to redo the shower and also to do the tiling for the shower in the other bathroom. His worker Leo and his fellow worker did a fantastic job in both bathrooms. Highly recommended. Martin and his crew, especially Leo his team leader are a great company to have for any tile project. These guys aren't even done yet but I am already recommending them for two major reasons. One, they are a professional highly skilled team and... Two, because they are a pleasure to work with. Clean, on time, and nice to work with. Our entire house is covered in tile so this is a big job and they are doing great. They are experts at Large tiles, ours are 4 feet by 4 feet each, and it takes a special hand to move them and install them. Sometimes three or four guys to install one single tile. Each member of the team is excellent at what they do and they work well together, it's really an art-form to watch them do the installation. I personally like all reviews to be real with some critical views but really it's hard to find any flaws, they really are great, so I'll even tell you we had some issues with the grout, but here is the good news, they are working on it and taking care of it and I really feel like we are in good hands. When you have a professional crew, they are worth it bc when things naturally happen they know what to do and how to take care of it. Sometimes that means they cost a little bit more but in the long run you actually save money by having quality people do the work. Tile is going to last for ever so you should do it right the first time. ***Highly Highly recommended***. The last thing I'd mention is that this job is a big job and it means a lot to have happy workers in your home. I purchased a mosaic tile for my kitchen remodel. When my contractor opened the box and saw all of the individual pieces of stone with mylar facing on the front, rather than a standard size tile with meshing on the back, his eyes were wider than normal. I knew I had a problem. Martin was the third tile installation person I contacted. He immediately new each piece of stone, where it was from and it's inherent qualities. He stated that mosaics were a standard for his business. His price was only slightly higher than the other quotes but given that the tile was so expensive, it was well worth the piece of mind. Gabriel performed the actual layout, measuring, cutting and installation. His patience and methodical process was absolutely necessary for the job and it paid off in spades. To make things more complex, there wasn't enough tile for the area behind a floating shelf for cookbooks. I ordered more tile and again Gabriel delivered. He lined up every piece of the mosaics with exact geometry to accommodate the difference of the shelf. It looks beautiful. Martin was timely with his business in terms of initial estimate, scheduled work for tile setting and sealing. Plus, he's just a no nonsense, good guy. Martin (the owner) answered the phone when I first called, and was immediately available each time I had a question. We were out of town during the installations, but Leo, the lead worker on the installations, kept me informed of the progress, including texting photos. He contacted me wherever there was a question regarding our preferences, and even sent out an image of the tile arrangement to get our approval before installing them.
