The food was delicious. We had the Berrian taco rack and the taco salad. The staff was super nice and very attentive to our refills and requests. Our server Andrea A made us have a very disappointing experience coming here. Literally made me and my girl feel like being we were peasants begging for beer. Long story short; had to seat ourselves, get our own menus after sitting for a while without them, had to walk up to the bar to order the drinks after waiting at the table for a while, at the bar got asked for my girls ID, brought hers up, only to get told to go back to the table to have her face marched to her ID. Decided to give this place a try for a "date night" based on a recommendation from a good friend, and we are SO glad we did! The outdoor patio was small, but cozy. Our first visit, I remember was a cold day, but they had plenty of patio heaters that kept us warm and I felt completely comfortable the entire time (which is rare because I get cold easily). I absolutely LOVED their margaritas - I tried La Favorita and La Fresita, both delicious. The serfano pepper gave it an extra kick, which was different but tasty! The food - equally delicious! I had the Tacos Gobernador - they were amazing! The sopa de fideo put me on a time machine back to the 80's - sitting on my mother's dining table, devouring this famous soup! I am a fan! If you like poor service then go ahead and go here. Sunday afternoon at 1pm, not busy at all, we have a party of 4 sit down and they took our drink and food order soon after. First order of 2 tacos came out about 10 mins later and still no water or booze that we ordered, no big deal. Another order, a taco salad comes out, still not beverages. Finally drinks come out with the third meal but we feel bad starting without waiting on the last meal. 30 mins go by and I ask if the last order is almost ready and they apologized and said it should be out shortly. 45 mins go by and nothing on that last order. The server handed me a iPad to pay bill and charged me an upfront 18% gratuity which I was unaware of nor did I see when settling my bill for a party of 2. Usually restaurants charge an upfront gratuity for large parties. I paid an additional tip on top of this which was more than the 18% they charged me and did not realize it until I got the receipt emailed to me. As cool as this place was, well I think I got swindled. It was a Saturday 9/16 the next day I see two pending charges on my bank statement. One is $50. And the second is 80. The food was great! We ordered the ceviche tower, which was fresh and tasty. Everything was really well-priced. My reasoning for the 3-stars is the lack of COVID-19 protections. I saw a waitor with her mask under her chin - not covering her face at all. That is entirely unacceptable. Many waitors had their masks under their noses. OK so for the fact few months I've watched as this restaurant came into being. Everything looks so promising, from the style of food to the full liquor bar and even the location on the pedestrian main street mall. It's hard to imagine when all those things come true. But it did this place is legit. I started with a Michelada with bacon and shrimp and Mexican candy on the straw. Great start. We sampled everything from the nopalitos, Chicharrón and a variety of tacos. All was very satisfying. I also had the bacon wrapped shrimp which was perfectly cooked and came with a smoky, vinegary dipping sauce. It was flavorful and added a punch to the bacon shrimp. I didn't care for the Mayonnaise chipotle sauce. Although we came for lunch, I could imagine this place would really be popular in the evenings as people stroll down the pedestrian mall. Great for people watching maybe even better than the view from Bellas Trattoria in the Mission Inn. The service was a little uneven, had to get my drink order right and they probably could've used an additional server on a Saturday afternoon but it never affected our experience. The first time I went, the drinks and the food was pretty good. The service was just okay but the drinks were good enough for me to come again the next day. Last night I ordered a margarita and when I finished my drink there was a huge nasty bug. It definitely doesn't seem like it has wings either. It was under my ice so when i moved the ice, it popped out. I then told the waitress and she looked disgusted as well. She comes back and says it's not their fault and that it flew in so sorry i had to go through that but one time she found a chewed gum at the bottom of the drink. I honestly think they handled this situation very poorly. The least they could do was to get the manager out to apologize or get the drink compensated as an apology. My husband and a friend went here for lunch. Service was great and they were being safe with mask wearing. They ordered a couple of 24oz beers in goblets at the recommendation of the waiter. After finishing them, they decided to order a pint of beer for their second round. One of them decided to pour the pint into the goblet with a small amount of beer left in it. The goblet almost overflowed! How does a 16 oz beer overflow a goblet that is supposed to hold 24 oz??!!! This is a sneaky, underhanded thing to do to their customers. At the very least, do not order the 24 oz goblet. You are being scammed!!!! Also, the waiter knew this since he came out with an extra beer that he split by pouring some into each goblet for them once they called him out on it. We need to expect more from these restaurants and stop being taken advantage of just because they are in downtown. read more
