Good food, best place for breakfast and brunch in Edison. We have been there few time, weekends are definitely booked and will have to wait for a table but that's expected with any restaurant. read more

My fiancé, my daughter and myself came here for a quick lunch seeing the 5 star reviews. We ordered the Sloppy Josephine with sweet potatoes fries, the RB melt with fries and a fruit cup for my 8 month old. I also got a large latte. So the sandwiches were filled with flavor!! I loved the fresh arugula on the Sloppy Josephine. It added amazing flavor and texture. The RB (toast beef) melt was tasty but lacked meat? There just needed to be a little more beef and it would have been perfect. Now the latte was a great size! I took a photo when I checked in. Great quality espresso they use. Now the place is smaller. Maybe 12-15 tables in total? And when we left there were roughly 10 people waiting to sit I assume due to the fact it was 12:30pm and prime lunch time. Very trendy app that's for sure! Lots of hipsters. Glad we stopped!! read more

Been hearing a lot about this spot and finally was able to make it with my husband. Took a friend's recommendation and tried out their Sloppy Josephine. Pretty delish! If you enjoy a Ruben sandwich, you'll enjoy this one. My husband tried out their Mac Cadillac beyond burger which was absolutely mind blowing. If you've been curious if trying out a non meat patty, definitely try theirs out. Add some fries, coz they came out crispy and fresh! Def a good neighborhood spot that we'd come back to. They also have outdoor seating. read more

Service is EXCELLENT! The staff are super welcoming and attentive! Their version of pancakes is fluffy and delicious. Normally, I need to drown my pancakes with gobs of syrup. However, the Automat's cloud cakes absorb the syrup so well that I didn't need as much as I usually put! Also, if you prefer syrup that isn't obnoxiously sweet, then you'll like the kind that they serve! One of the reasons I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the chai latte was lacking in flavor. I was also a little disappointed in the amount of fruit that came with the cloudcakes. Other than that, I had a great experience and would come back! read more

I recently ate at The Edison Automat and loved it. Inside, there's a very hip vibe. There's a counter for ordering items to go, and plenty of seats (indoor & out) for eat in dining. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Hot Sandwich, and it was delicious; a ciabatta bun with grilled chicken, onions, Gouda, lettuce and a honey mustard dressing. The only improvement here would be to accept payment at the table. Instead of the waitress / waiter taking your payment- you have to take it up to the counter- which can be crowded with people placing /picking up to go orders or also making a payment. read more

Some meals are just so tasty that you eat them a bit hasty. So I forgot to photo document how well this meal went. Outdoor seating, distanced well. Heaters kept us feeling swell. They warmly welcomed our pup Waitress offered him a water cup. Ordered a Mediterranean omelette, a side of potatoes to complete the set. Coffee perfect, smooth and strong, after ordering, we didn't wait long. Omelette was wonderful, loved the feta and olives, tomatoes, basil, etc. I love that the fillings were sandwiched within, I prefer it to them being mixed in. Potatoes so tasty, packed a lot of punch. I can't wait to come back here for brunch. I love the nod to the local history. Why this place is popular isn't a mystery! read more

Ok I went back on a weekend for brunch and the service was great! I was on crutches and they were super nice about helping me get through tables and put my crutches in a corner so they wouldn't take up space at the table. Food and drinks came quickly, we were checked up on, etc. Food was good- we had a quinoa bowl and a veggie omelette and both were filling. I did think it was a bit bland but some salt/pepper/hot sauce helped it out a lot!! read more

Probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. They forget to take down my wife's order, never came over to check on us, didn't bring drinks for almost 45 minutes, and insinuated that my wife didn't actually order anything. If I could give zero stars, I would. Terrible service, terrible management. Will not be returning read more

Excellent! Great food and friendly service. Good location with ample parking. Although a bit loud inside, the food is worth it!

Found this restaurant on FindMeGlutenFree and decided to give it a shot, now it's my favorite breakfast place! I have celiac disease and must avoid cross contamination with gluten. The staff were so caring and helpful, I ordered the buttermilk cloud pancakes gluten free and they were the best pancakes I'd ever had. I added strawberries and blueberries. It came with a side of syrup as well. Everything was delicious and no celiac reaction or upset stomach. I've been coming here ever since I moved to Edison, check it out! read more

This place is so pretty and aesthetic! The wait time wasn't too long either, my friends and I had a 15 min wait before being seated around 12pm. I ordered the Tofu Scramble, and my friends got the Almond Crusted French Toast (looked AMAZING) and the Grilled Reuben (recommended by our waitress). The Tofu Scramble was a bit oily for my taste, but it was still very good. Definitely a cute place to enjoy brunch! read more

Its a small spot but the food was pretty good and its byob! I got the bruschetta chicken sandwich and added chipotle sauce to it .

DISCLAIMER: I'M NOT A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER! So my wife & I had breakfast here today. We were greeted by a friendly staff member holding the door for us. We ordered dark roast coffee, and it was delicious. I'm a tough critic of coffee, and based on that alone, I won't return to a restaurant if it's bad. To eat I ordered the veggie omlet, asking the chef to lightly cook the eggs and add xtra roasted garlic. It was superb. My wife had pancakes which she is a tough critic of and they were awesome. The servers were extremely pleasant. They really deserved my positive review so here it is. We will be returning soon. Thank you to the Edison Automat. read more

Nice fast-casual restaurant for a quick coffee or brunch. The menu includes a solid variety of breakfast dishes (sandwiches, omelettes, etc.) and coffees. Although I was hoping for the restaurant to be a little more coffeeshop-like, the space didn't really feel like somewhere that I'd bring my laptop to study or work. Maybe it's the layout or the furniture...not sure, but regardless, the food was tasty and reasonably priced, and the staff was friendly. read more

I've had some great visits here in the past, but this afternoon's meal was one of the worst I've had out in quite a while. Between them having run out of multiple menu items, served dishes missing a bunch of components, and giving me a quinoa/potato/black bean bowl that was completely lacking potatos (and wasn't even served in a bowl) it's was just a terrible meal overall. Never mind our server, who told her coworker she was taking a break, and then vanished before taking our order. If your thinking about coming here... don't. Go to Hatch in Metuchen, it's a thousand times better. read more

Never have I come across an establishment more worthy of a five star rating. This place was a home run. We walked in about 30 minutes before closing. Most places might try and rush you away but not this place. Owner was so down to earth and even took it upon himself to take our order, explain items on the menu, and make sure we didn't feel rushed. This place had the best pancakes my girlfriend and I have ever had. Omelette was amazing as well. But those pancakes - oh my gosh. Customer service was spectacular, food was delicious and coffee was to die for. All for very reasonable prices. So glad this place is close to home. Make sure you come by for a great meal with great people - you won't be disappointed. read more

I saw that this place had a 5 star rating so I just had to check it out for myself. I was looking for something light to hold me over until dinner so was interested in seeing what they had. I ended up getting the Mc Cadillac - the beyond burger with Mac and cheese. I had been wanting to try the beyond burger for a while now so I figured this was the perfect time to do so. The food came out in a timely fashion and was all really good. The greens had a good vinaigrette dressing and the kettle chips were delicious! The burger itself was also really good and the toppings were perfectly complementary with the beyond meat. I ended up finishing everything and it didn't leave me with a gross oily feeling that a normal burger may. The ambiance was also great- good for a lunch date or even for a solo meal (self care!). You order at the counter, making it casual but you can sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, such a good place and can't wait to go back. read more

I came here to order a takeout breakfast the other day . the space inside is way bigger than I imagined for some reason . The interior is very clean , modern , and bright . the staff was friendly and i like the fact they have a specials board . I ordered a hot apple cider and a California breakfast sandwich . The cider was good , nothing too spectacular . On the other hand , my sandwich was the best I've ever had when it comes to morning sandwiches . The roll was soft and fluffy , the honey mustard was an unusual but delicious pairing with the eggs and meat . It cost $9 total, which is a little pricey but totally worth it . Will come back again soon ! read more

I went to this place with my friend and her boyfriend who is friends with the owner. This place has very nice decor which I love, it's the first thing I noticed.. My friend and I met up at the Edison Automat for brunch. It was both of our first time here and we had a pleasant experience. We were seated immediately. We came on a weekday; I presume the weekend would be busier. The service was friendly, patient, and attentive. DRINKS: We ordered an iced coffee. It was pretty average tasting, but refreshing and tasty nonetheless. I wish I snapped a picture of the coffee bar - the design is so aesthetic. FOOD: - Tequila Sunrise breakfast sandwich ($6.50): So many flavors, from the rosemary bread to the jalapeno cream cheese... all the details combined made up a really satisfying sandwich. It came with a tiny, tiny portion of greens on the side. - Almond Crusted French Toast ($9.00): The almonds had a prominent taste, which I liked. Sweet and simple brunch spot in Edison. Nothing fancy, just casual and super delicious. The portion size was just right for my friend and me, but it's on the smaller size compared to other nearby brunch places. The prices are reasonable, the interior is a gem, and the menu is enticing - I'll come again to try more. read more

I had a wonderful experience here at The Edison Automat. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a young man at the counter. He inquired if I was dining in or taking my order to go. I said for here and he kindly directed me to the dining area and handed me the menus that are available which were breakfast, lunch, and drink menus. I had a seat in the dining room which was rather busy being that it was a weekend but I was able to find a seat for 2. My server was very sweet and took my order right away. I ordered a hot cocoa and a chicken salad sandwich. Everything was very good. The flavoring on the sandwich was not overpowering and the dressing on the salad was just enough. I will definitely come back. read more

Me and my family we where seated for 30 minutes. There were other people who were seated after us and they took their order before us bad management as well. if you're hungry, do not come here because it's a waste of your time. I had to write a review for this place because I really appreciated the service and hospitality I got from here. We went here Saturday for brunch and waited 20 minutes for a table outside. It wasn't a long wait though and there was plenty of parking. The staff were all smiles - happy to be there, and serve us. We felt really welcome. The food all turned out great, definitely recommend the hot sandwiches. The part that I really appreciated was the fact they all came out to sing happy birthday for my friend. I had initially asked them on the side if they could bring a cake slice with a candle out for her at the end since it was her bday. I told them they didn't have to sing since she wasn't into it but they insisted! They wanted to and said they'd whisper sing it haha. It was really cute and the cake was amazing! Apparently, the owner's mother bakes the cakes herself! TRY THE CAKE! My friends and I will be back in the fall and winter, we really enjoyed it. The Automat has lived up to the hype in my eyes. Thanks guys :) read more

Great Gourmet style breakfast. The outside patio is pet friendly. We ordered a variety of breakfast foods, pictures attached. Overall the food was very fresh. The only drawback was the acoustics. When we first arrived there were only four other people. By the time we left, there was a waiting line. The more people arrived, the louder the room got. If someone was had a loud voice or laugh all heads would turn. It was nerve raking (not that the establishment could control someone's loud laugh or voice). If noise level bothers you, take along ear plugs in a busy day. I also purchased a sloppy go sandwich for my husband. He said it was very good. Don't let the acoustics of this establishment deter you from going...just be prepared, especially if there are naturally loud strong voices and laughs. The food is worth going back for! read more

Had lunch with my wife today. Food was very tasty and the server was attentive. The coffee was good. New cafe spot in edison. It's a good spot to catch up with a buddy or study. Definitely very spacious and a lot of room. The service was very attentive. They also had cold brew and nitro brew on tap which is always a plus. Food 3/5 Coffee 4/5 Service 4.5/5 Ambience 5/5 Price to Value 3/5 read more

I ordered my standard latte and a croissant. I'm not sure if they bake their croissants in house but they were great. The latte was just okay--no latte art for me that day, which, though super 'basic,' is the majority of the reason why I ever order a latte. They don't seem to have everything organized yet, as they have wifi, but a private one, and a public password is not set up--the owner came and typed the password in my computer for me. The temperature of the place was also a little bit off. It kept getting warm and then cold. But I love the space and hope these little things get worked out. read more

The Edison Automat is a perfect blend of retro appreciation with a side of modern appetite. My husband, baby girl, and I went on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't too busy, which I definitely liked having a little one. The menus are on the counter: one breakfast and one lunch. They serve breakfast all day another plus for me. Desserts are on display. The lemon cake looked homemade and delicious. I will have to revisit for that alone. The staff was super friendly. After ordering your food, you take a seat and wait for them to bring it out. This gave me time to enjoy the decor. I ordered the chicken caprese sandwich, amazing! My husband got the roast beef sandwich and said it was good. I will definitely check-in again to try out the breakfast. read more

This was a fun spot to meet friends for brunch this weekend. The food was good but service was a little spotty but everybody was very very friendly so it was not a big deal. My breakfast sandwich tasted great along with my side of fruit. Our food arrived and we realized they forgot to bring all of our beverages. The server apologized and all the coffees were out within five minutes. The food was fresh, tasty and appetizing and the environment was fun. It was a little bit like a diner but somewhat more upscale. I definitely would look forward to going back again. read more

A favorite brunch spot. Since the weather is warmer, they opened up seating outside- which is great as it cuts down the waiting time. We ordered the Apple Pancakes, Meatball Sub and Tequila Sunrise sandwich. The meatballs are moist and the Mac salad this time was a lot better compared to the first time I had it. There was more flavor in the mac salad and creamier. The pancakes were fluffy and I personally love apples and fresh fruit on my pancakes!
