Methi Malai Matar & Sundried Tomato Olive Naan
    Dana S.

Returned to dine-in! The inside of the restaurant is classy and has character, and it's bigger than it looks from the outside or when you first walk in. This time I had the Methi Malai Matar and a Sundried Tomato Olive Naan, and Masala Chaas to drink. My mom had the Paneer Butter Masala and a Garlic Naan, and we ordered the Fire Chicken to take back for my dad. The food was once again very good. The methi malai matar was flavourful without being very hot/spicy and the peas tasted very fresh! I ended up eating a lot of the gravy of my mom's butter paneer too - I started with just a taste, but then she had a lot left over at the end and I couldn't help but finish it. The gravy was nice and tangy, with a pleasant, rich mouthfeel. My mom ordered this she asked the waitress for the mildest paneer dish on the menu (we weren't given the option to specify spice level, but we didn't try, so if you need to, it could still be worth asking), but it still had a bit more of a bite than my dish, which I would have described as relatively mild but not spiceless. She was still able to handle it fine - her spice preference is low but not zero - it was just spicy to her. I didn't try the fire chicken but my dad spoke very highly of it and it smelled amazing. He also said, as you would expect, that it was quite spicy. My mom and I agreed the naans were just amazing. I think she said it was probably the best she'd had and for me there's been too many good ones to say for sure, but it was definitely a contender, and I remember last time we were all also in awe of the bread. They get it perfectly crispy without sacrificing softness. I also really liked the sundried tomato and olive flavour which I haven't seen before at other restaurants, and it complimented both of our entrees well. My masala chaas was really good too - it was a little spicy but still went down very smoothly and was a refreshing compliment to my meal. Even though it did have a little kick, it would still temper the heat well if you ordered a really spicy dish. I do wish they had metal or at least paper straws instead of plastic - (they're pretty much standard in Vancouver now, so I'm a little spoiled) - I would skip the straw where possible but I ended up needing it here to get all the froth, and I didn't think to bring my own. The staff was very polite, but not as attentive as we really needed. When we ordered our meals, we told our waitress we were going to place a takeout order later, but she disappeared after bringing our food and never came back to check on us, so we had to get the attention of another waitress to order the takeout when we were about halfway done eating. It was ready before we were done though, which seemed quick. We also never had our waters refilled. I think the prices are okay for the quality. The naans are big and the mains are reasonably-sized. For me, an entire naan and an entire entree (plus the chaas) was a filling but not heavy meal, so there's room to add appetizers if you have bigger appetites and/or want to go all out. One thing that is puzzling to me is that their online menu and takeout menu is significantly cheaper than what you pay to dine-in. On the online menu, you can choose the size of the entrees, and they're all cheaper than the price on the menu in the actual restaurant, but my "small" from last time was about the same as the dine-in portion, and if you order online, a small Methi Malai Matar is $11.5, but the dine-in price was $19.5. It's worth paying the extra few dollars for the dine-in experience in my view, but this is a huge difference and they should make their menus consistent across web and physical. The takeout is definitely the way to go if you want a high-quality meal for a lower price.

The service was initially slow and we had to signal our server few times but then the food came out quickly. The food was delicious but portions of main course were small. However the key issue is that the prices of their online menu is different from what is on the menu in restaurant. The online menu does not say if it's for take out or dine in but there is a prices difference of 1-2 dollars for every item.

A good cozy restaurant for family dinning. Great food, good service, good ambiance. We have been there for many times in the last few months, always found the foods freshly cooked with quality ingredients and good selection of spices. They probably has one of the best chats in Ontario... Hare Patey Ki Tokri, it's a must try if you love streetfoods/chats! We also tried Nurani Kebab, Peshwari Tandoori Chicken, Kake Dhaba Keema, Anarkali Bazaar Kadhai Chicken, Ambala Wali Chicken Curry, Moordabadi Dal, Raat Wali Daal, Katal Jackfruit. All the items were good. Delicious. The Katal is quite a unique dish. Jackfruit (non-ripe) cooked with spices!

We had dinner at Firangi today. Our second visit there. Enjoyed the food thoroughly. Especially the starters. Music was rather loud but otherwise the ambiance was lovely. Staff were attentive and quick to serve.

Was there yesterday. Food was very good, lovely ambiance and food presented very nicely. Inside ambiance was nice with nice decor. Restaurant staff are also friendly and helpful. Order chicken grill forgot the exact name but was nice and tender on smokey grill. Lamb chop was so succulent and tender one of the beat lamb chop I had. Dont have the pic of desert which was kulfi faluda was also real good. Only draw back is bit on pricey range. But worth trying.

Came here with a few work people for our lunch outing; so this review is based on their lunch serving. Quite a nice fancy desi high-end restaurant. The seating, vibe, service, presentation were all top notch. I ordered their Lamb Tiffin and it did come in an actual tiffin so the experience was just overwhelming great. The Tiffin included Lamb curry, daal and vegetable (bindi/ Okra) with rice & fresh naan bread. I kid you now the lamb was cooked to perfection, no smell and tender. The bindi/ Okra taste reminded me of back home. The chef did an exceptional job with all the dishes and they were very tasty. I would love to go back any try more dishes. P.S. They server confirmed the meat they serve is halal.

Awesome ambience, great appetizers, good drinks, but average main course. The place is very balanced in terms of decore. The chat was delicious, and kababs were very well presented. However, I felt they didn't do justice with their main course. Chicken curry was ordinary. I heard about their lunch dabba, so will try that once. Hoping it will fullfil my expectations and I could give them additional stars .

This is a true fusion Indian restaurant. The food, ambience and service were all amazing. We starter with the harey pattey ki chaat and the manchurian gobi. Both of them were large portion sizes and tasted great. For mains we got the chefs recommended ambala wala chciken and it was tasty. It was a little sour and spicy. We also got the lazeez mughlai chicken. This was great but it was really heavy because of the cashew sauce. They gave us 3 chutneys, fried papad and onions on the side. We didn't have room for dessert.

Stopped for lunch and I was glad I did. I wasn't too sure initially because of the stars on Yelp but it was worth the trip. The restaurant looks great inside. It's got this modern yet rustic Indian decor with furniture that matches the theme. However, Eric Clapton playing in the background didn't quite fit the theme but other than that, they did a great job. When you walk in, you can see the open kitchen as well along with original art from @hatecopy. We ordered chicken and lamb Tiffin. It was presented well in these metal brass looking containers. Food tasted great. We ordered a fresh lime soda as well that was refreshing. Overall the experience was great. I wish they had restaurants like this where I live.

Absolutely loved this place The ambiance very well done. I went to firungi for a friends birthday party. The food was just excellent and beautifully presented. We had the butter chicken fries( my fav of the night) and chaat for appetizers. 10/10 For dinner we ordered the daal, chicken 65, chicken karhai, and paneer saag 10/10 Also ordered sweet lassi was too thick and they wouldn't serve it a light bulb like the other drinks.

Falooda in a flat plate and a fork--disappointing!

My family ( including a 2 year old toddler) came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our overall experience was fine- nothing super special. Service/ ambience- good Food quality- fair Price- $$$ (7 people and we paid $300) Apps were better than dinner we ordered. We ordered veg and non-veg, meat dishes were apparently better tasting ( i am vegetarian). Dessert was a big disappointment though ( Falooda in a flat plate and we were given forks!!!). Lastly, neither men or women bathroom had a changing table and that's a big inconvenience as kids can be unpredictable. I would think twice before heading back to this place as this is a deal-breaker for us( people with kids might understand this better!).

Firangi is the brainchild of Chef Sanjeev Sethi who is also the Chef & Owner of 'The Host Fine Indian Cuisine' near Square One. Just like his previous restaurant this is also as mediocre and over hyped by décor and hiked up prices for his "prized" dishes. We were greeted by the host in front with dirty shoes and were seated at a table with apparently most uncomfortable small chairs that would be for small children. This is mostly due to the owner trying to squeeze in as much as covers as possible in the provided space. Now the Menu. You shall find items such as "Butter Chicken Fries, chicken tikka taco's, Kingfisher Beer Battered Fish Amratsari"; these are the dishes of a newbie cook trying to fuse Indian food with other cuisines thinking that they have created something amazing (hint hint, this is what you do with leftover food at home or find it at a carnival). We ordered Hare Patey Ki Tokri Chaat : I could taste the bitterness of the old cooking oil in the overfried potato baskets. Nurani Kebab: Chicken Mince with spices wrapped around Lamb Mince served in Shot glasses with basic green chutney underneath. Completely destroyed due to excess chilli's & spices. Lamb Chops: a 20 year old recipe. I will admit these were half decent and I wanted more than just 4 piece for the price of $25 for this app. But considering the caliber of what they proclaim to be these could have been made by any good chef or a house cook with basic skills and they would turn out as good. Harey Bhare Kebab: Vegetarian classic that is supposed to be mild yet but they overkilled it with chilli's and sprinkled what I figured was minuscule amount of goat cheese on top (our server nor denied or confirmed this when inquired) Rajasthani Lal Mass: quite ticked off with this one actually. This was recommended by our server. It was suppose to be a beautiful Mutton dish of Rajasthan yet what I was given was your basic Bone in Goat curry with some Lal mirch spice. Meat itself was not as fresh and clear water kept separating from the gravy Ambala wala Chicken curry: Just your basic Chicken Curry with boneless chicken. Let me remind you that putting a famous Indian states name in front of your menu item doesn't make it special plus no history was given to backup the name of it. Also the water kept separating from the gravy as well with this one. Pukhtani Kofta : Beetroot covered Paneer in your standard cashew cream gravy. The kofta itself was good but the beetroot was being spoiled by the gravy which to be honest was more of your standard butter chicken or a paneer gravy. Sometimes its best not to force combine things that don't go together. Clocking in at over $180 for all this with a bowl of rice and 3 naan's makes me wonder if by reading this review chef Sanjeev will change his course and actually make it worth while to charge these prices and serve up some real good food. Also with a name like Firangi I would have expected a British Inspired Décor and menu.

And I feel like I made the right choice because it's one tasty hamburger. I wouldn't rank it with the best in the city, but all the components were right on target and I enjoyed the heck out of it. The fries were great, too. I don't know why it took us so long to check out Bramble Gastropub, but I think it's safe to say we'll be returning sometime very soon.

The menu leans fusion, so there was a lot to try, and overall it felt like a fun place to share plates and compare notes with the table. The cocktails definitely stood out for being stronger than the usual lighter, sweeter drinks you get elsewhere, and the smoky cinnamon one was probably the most memorable. For appetizers, the beef tartare with bone marrow was the clear winner for me. The tartare tasted bright and fresh, and the marrow was rich without feeling greasy. The mussels were also enjoyable, mostly because they were fresh and sat in a creamy broth that made the whole dish feel comforting. We also tried the octopus with pumpkin purée, which had a nice chewy texture and a lovely sweetness from the purée, although a slight charred taste came through more than I personally wanted. For mains, a few dishes landed better than others. The ribeye with chimichurri was one of the stronger choices, tender, properly cooked medium rare, and especially good with that sharp, herbaceous sauce. The ribs were also very tender and full of flavor. The salmon in puff pastry was enjoyable enough that I would order it again, even though the pastry itself was a little softer than I expected. The udon carbonara was decent and comforting, but probably not the most memorable thing on the table, and the signature chicken had flavorful meat even if the rice leaned a bit too soft for me. One small complaint I kept coming back to was the bread, which tasted more charred than I like. Still, Wilcox feels like a nice little spot for a relaxed dinner with drinks, especially if you go in the mood to share, explore the menu, and order a few of the stronger dishes.

You might think beer was my primary motivation, and in the beginning it was. Block 3 is a small batch craft brewery that delivers on tasty beer. They generally have ten to twelve beers on tap ranging from lagers, ales, sours and sometimes a stout. They are all delicious in their own right although drinking barrel aged fruited sours is an acquired taste in my book, but trust me try them and you may learn to love them. But why else should you go? There is limited food (it's a brewery not a restaurant), no TV's to watch the game, a steady stream of classic rock playing in the background, kids running around and a few dogs to greet you on the way in. To make matters worse the cell reception is awful, my wife always had a hard time reaching me. Hmm, maybe that's not all bad... What kind of place is this, anyway? It's a modern twist on an old fashioned FAMILY oriented brewery, that's what! There are plenty of board games to play, the local regulars are always happy to share some stories, and the staff are the coolest people around. They have a great Mug Club and if you are lucky you get your own hand-thrown pottery mug with your name on it! Very cool...
