    Truffle fries

Came here on a late Friday night for dinner. Service was great and attentive. We had the truffle fries and Brussel sprouts with bacon bits to start. The Brussels were delicious and packed with flavor. The truffle fries were okay - the truffle gives off an after taste that lingers in your mouth. For the main entree, I had the almond chicken tenders with butter Buffalo dipping sauce. Everything on this plate was delicious. We wanted dessert, but they had ran out of brownies and cookies. I ended up getting a scoop of ice cream with caramel.

My friends were raving about this new vegan restaurant in town and was I hesitant and not interested Of course I didn't care to go there However they insisted Well okay and here I was Ordered spicy sticky tofu wraps was a take from sushi accompanied by ginger and wasabi There was a lot of sesame on it too Tasted excellent it was the best vegan I've ever had a must try specially the tofu entree Everyone was more than happy with their orders The cauliflower wraps looked good too The ambience was not too good dry average For drinks I ordered hibiscus tea and beer The alcoholic beverages were good too I'm definitely going there again a very strong recommendation for this awesome restaurant

Again, looking for someplace in the area to grab dinner at while we were here on a business trip. Checked the reviews and this location came highly recommended and I have to agree, the food was exceptional. The ambience is very laid-back and casual. They do have a bar you can sit at or high tops, as well as booths and tables. The music is a little loud inside so you will have to speak up if you are there with a larger group of people. They have an eclectic menu with a little bit of everything, we opted to go with the sirloin rice bowl. By far probably one of the better things that I've eaten in a very long time. Love the fact that the rice was sushi rice served with ginger, a beet, slaw, avocado, cucumber, and sirloin that was very well cooked. Our server was adorable and very attentive and truly just enjoyed our experience here

Almond crusted chicken tenders, Buffalo sauce, Dijon mustard

A great little spot to go if you're in the area. All the food had unique and distinct flavors but tasted fresh. The Brussel sprouts were delicious with the bacon bits. I wasn't crazy about the Parmesan truffle fries, it had a flavor I didn't quite like as an aftertaste but the fries themselves were good. They have drink specials/happy hours in the evening that I took advantage of with the social punch, I really enjoyed the drink as it was refreshing and couldn't even tell it was an alcoholic drink. The tenders blew me away with how well they were coated but they still almost tore apart so easily. The dips were an excellent compliment to the tenders as well as each other. I'd recommend getting the Buffalo sauce, Dijon, and their house sauce and mixing the latter 2 with the Buffalo when dipping, adds an extra flavor.

I came here last weekend to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice, & everyone was very friendly. I ordered the almond crusted chicken tenders and got a side of truffle fries. The chicken unfortunately didn't have any flavour, and the fries had an odd aftertaste. I did ask for a side of garlic aioli, which made both dishes 10x better. I will come back, but try something else on the menu. My boyfriend ordered their bacon cheeseburger and liked it, but agreed that the truffle fries weren't that great (note: if you want the best truffle fries, go to Cactus Club!). The waitress took my leftovers and went to pack them up for me, but accidentally threw them out. She came over right away and apologized for her mistake and said that she placed a new order for me and will have it packed up ASAP. I honestly appreciated the honesty and know mistakes happen, but a whole new meal out of it wasn't necessary (although gladly accepted & eaten the next day!). Also - ordered a Caesar and it was good. The rim was a bit on the spicy side.

Came here for a surprise birthday for a friend - warm and cozy environment, very casual so perfect for friendly get-togethers. They easily accommodated all 8 of us. Only down-side was that we waited a very long time for them to take down our main orders after apps, but probably because they wanted to give us time to chat. Food was okay - very standard for a casual dining joint like Union Social. Was not expecting excellence and I wasn't shocked nor let down by the quality. Overall, if I were to come here again it would be because of a need to accommodate a larger group, not for the food!

    Nice wood tables and booth

Our flight was delayed coming into Toronto two hours so it was a bit tricky finding something still open till 11 pm on a weekday night for dinner (8 pm in the Pacific time zone we left). We were delighted with the wood trimmed tables and comfortable booths. The fish and chips was really good--with the haddock properly seasoned and loved the light batter. The burger and fries were great as well. Wonderful stop on vacation!

Not a great picture and not a great garlic shrimp taco. Pretty standard.

Basically I felt like I was in a bar eating bar food. I guess that's what a gastropub is supposed to be, but it didn't really seem anything special. Maybe my expectations were misaligned. I had the Social Dragon Roll which just didn't seem fresh for sushi. It was sketchy at best. Flavorful, just not what I would expect in the sushi department. That's what I deserve ordering sushi at a bar. I also ordered the Garlic Shrimp Tacos which were better. It was enough for a light meal and I enjoyed it. But, it was what I would expect at a bar, not a good tex mex spot.

We arrived here for a late dinner tonight at 8:00pm, and the place was hopping. This establishment has a very modern look with wooden walls and tall ceilings. There's a dining room to the left, and bar area to the right, all very open. Our server, Trixie, was absolutely fantastic, asking us if this was our first visit (it was) and telling us a bit about the place. The menu isn't that big but had lots of interesting choices. We ordered the buffalo chicken taco appetizer and bacon cheddar burger. While we waited they brought over a complimentary deep fried wonton which was hot and very tasty. It came with a fire sauce which added a nice kick to it. The entrees arrived within 20 minutes and were served piping hot. The burger was perfect and the fries were delicious, being hot, crispy, and flavorful. The buffalo chicken tacos had a nice fresh spicy taste. You can tell these folks really care about the presentation of the food. While we dined, Trixie checked in on us, making sure we were always doing alright. She made some nice small talk with us and made us feel very welcome. We ate half of our plates and doggie bagged the rest as we were in the mood for dessert. We chose the cookies and ice cream; 3 freshly baked cookies served warm and vanilla bean ice cream drizzled in caramel with chocolate chips. What a fantastic dessert, we really enjoyed the mix of warm and cold sweetness. What a great dining experience. 5 Star Food, and 5 Star Service from Trixie!

My husband and I had dinner here recently and for a chain restaurant it was pretty good. It's similar to a Moxie's or Kelsey's in my opinion, but I feel the food here is better. I had the Candy House Salad ($11.98) and added BBQ grilled chicken to it for an additional $4. The salad consisted of mixed greens (a real mixed greens, not just romaine and iceberg, although it had too much romaine for my liking - but thankfully no iceberg!), mango, roasted red peppers, feta cheese, and figs. The menu said it contained "sugared walnuts" but I didn't see or taste any in my salad :( The dressing was a maple vinaigrette. The added chicken was real breast meat. The portion wasn't too generous, but it was acceptable. Overall, the salad was good. I liked the mix of ingredients. Despite the word "candy" in its name,it wasn't too sweet (although maybe it's because I was missing the sugared walnuts). Portion-size was good. It was filling for a dinner. So on the menu it says you can make any salad "a Wozny" for an additional $5. I asked the server what this meant and he says it means "almond-crusted chicken tenders" Apparently, there is a regular customer who comes there and always orders his Caesar salad with almond-crusted chicken tenders and his last name is Wozniak, so they put it on the menu in his honour, lol. Sounds interesting, I might have to try it next time! My husband had the BBQ Short Ribs with Cheddar-Chive Biscuit ($19.98). It came with a side of spiced carrots, and it had a huge pile of fried onion strings on it. I had some of the onion strings and they were excellent. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I didn't have any of the short ribs, but I saw him cutting it and it looked so soft and tender, like he didn't really need a knife! Our server was Charlie and he was good. Nice place. The customers skew a bit on the younger end (at least it did on the Saturday night that we were there). Lots of young couples on dates, I noticed. It's in a strip mall, so there is lots of free parking.

We had to also flag them down to get take out boxes, and again for the bill. The food: the appetizer, we ordered the calamari it had good flavours and were crispy. Slighly more oily but still delicious. The jerk chicken had good flavours and was very tender. The veggie upgrade is NOT worth it and extra $3 for 5 carrots and 3 broccolis. The rib eye steak was okay, the cut is not the best. The hot stone makes the table very hot, the plate holding it was cracked and hazardous imo. Fries in general were tasty and the 3 different sauces were good. In general this place needs to step it up a little, atleast with service since it's the easiest thing to change. Since I need vegan and gluten free the only items I could have were the salad without feta, yellow dal without ghee and plain rice. The fam loved the Afghan chicken tikka and paneer item they ordered. My dal was made without ghee as requested but was on the spicy side. The fam shared the chocolate cake and rabri desserts but zero vegan/gluten free dessert items. The decor is lovely and everyone was very professional. The meal was very expensive....well over $400 for 1 alcohol drink, 2 mocktails, 3 apps, 3 mains with 2 rice, 2naan and 1 parantha and 2 desserts. Hopefully you get Snow as your server as she was a delight. There was no DJs or live entertainment the night we went but they do have it on certain nights. I come here all the time for dinner and the food never disappoints. I came here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and we enjoyed our meal. We made a reservation for around 7pm, and they took us to the patio outside. I personally prefer being seated indoors, as it can get either too hot or too cold in the winter, but it is quite nice when the weather cooperates. The tables are also personally on the small side so keep that in mind if you're planning to order many appetizers. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and served us quickly. We ordered beef tacos to start. We usually get the fish tacos (which are some of our favourite tacos in the city) but we wanted to try something new. These tacos were great and the sauces were amazing. We then had the Burrata Fresco. It was our first time having this as well and we were quite pleased with it. The cheese was super creamy and went super well with the bread. Usually, the mains take a while to come, especially if you come on a weekend night (this was Father's day weekend, so it took a bit longer than usual) Finally we got to our mains. He had his usual, the Chimichurri steak sandwich, and I got a fish and chips, which i had never tried before. His steak was great and cooked really well. I've had the steak sandwich before as well and it was super well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Do keep in mind they only serve it with one slice of bread, though you can add an additional slice to make it a real sandwich. My fish and chips were good as well. The fish was thickly battered and was a little on the oily side but it wasn't bad. It went great with the truffle fries I ordered. The slaw was purple cabbage, which I think I prefer to the green cabbage kind. The restaurant was kind enough to give us a free cheesecake on the side with a cool flame sparkler for me and my boyfriend's anniversary. It was quite good and we thought is was quite generous of the restaurant. Overall, Taps is a great all rounder place to get food with your family or friends. They serve great pizzas here as well and I haven't had a dish I was disappointed with yet. It is on the pricier side, but if you have the ability to splurge, this is a great place to do so.

It caters more to the sports crowd however, there were some tables off to the side in which were catered to those with smaller children, which was where we were seated. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a kind server, that brought us to our table, and allowed us ample time to choose our menu items. I had settled on the butter chicken with rice and naan, while my son had the mini sliders with fries, my daughter had the kids' mac 'n cheese, and my mother had the fish tacos with nachos. I really enjoyed the butter chicken; the taste was excellent however, there were too many onions. I found that most of the butter chicken dish was overpowered with onions, which I didn't like. However, after scooping the onions away, it tasted great! I loved how the dish included rice and naan, such a great addition, and there was a lot of it as well! Unfortunately, the experience behind the scenes tells a very different story. The biggest issue isn't the staff as they work hard and do the best they can under difficult circumstances. The real problem is a lack of support from management. The restaurant often appears understaffed, and scheduling doesn't seem to provide employees with the help they need during busy periods. Even more concerning is how management handles abusive patrons. I've witnessed customers become verbally abusive and borderline physically intimidating toward bartenders and servers. From what I've observed, this has contributed to high staff turnover. On more than one occasion, I've seen employees leave in tears while managers were nowhere to be found or appeared to avoid dealing with the situation. The fact that loyal regular customers have had to step in to calm situations and support staff speaks volumes. Employees should never have to rely on patrons to help keep situations under control or to feel safe at work. This business has tremendous potential because of its prime location, but "location, location, location" will only carry it so far. Dear management: it's time to step up. Support your employees, ensure they have adequate staffing, and create a safe, respectful environment for both staff and guests. Your team deserves better, and so do your customers.
