Sweet Root Ramen (split into two bowls)
Kelly L.

A friend and I were looking for a highly rated place to eat in Silverton and the is did not disappoint. Delicious! When we walked in I wasn't sure since it wasn't really a sit down place. There is some seating outside and a covered side area that also had seating. We were not that hungry so we shared a Sweet Root Ramen bowl and they kindly split it into two bowls and presented them beautifully. This pictured bowl is just a half serving. It was very flavorful and I want to return someday and try some of the other dishes, as well. Great place!

Wow! If I lived nearby I would frequent this place. Great fresh food but limited hours. I am glad I was able to Try it while in the area Cases packed with delicious grab and go food like smoked salmon, kimchi and more Opted for gyoza , kalua pork ramen and glazed pork ramen Grabbed cookies and ice cream for dessert to Take home . Portions were plentiful. I ended up taking part of my glazed pork ramen home. There was a lot of meat. Personally I would have liked more veggies but it was very flavorful Portions were very generous and excellent quality with a good price point Ginger cookies were delicious. For ice cream we got coconut and yuzu white chocolate. Ice creams were rich and creamy but the flavor was really subtle . More so in the yuzu.

Ridiculously delicious! Super friendly! Will be back again and again and again! Thank you!

Took a drive into Silverton and I noticed the high reviews for this restaurant and the menu intrigued us. Coming from Hawaii, with its myriad of Japanese influences and locations for awesome food, I believe I have a good basis to begin this review. Especially since the two dishes we got were Japanese inspired. First off, parking. Make sure to come with some spare change to pay for on street parking or be willing to walk for about a minute or so to get to this place. It's located on the main street and borders a residential neighborhood. Due to COVID, you cannot eat in the restaurant but there are a few outside tables. Weather was great the day we went so this wasn't an issue. The owner was also suggestive on which side of the restaurant to sit on. (One side was less hot than the other due to how the sun was hitting, as well as more quiet cause it was on the side street side). According to my gf, who ordered the curry, it was delicious and reminded her of the Japanese curry we have in Hawaii. It was filled with all sorts of vegetables and it was plentiful (see pic). My ramen was also very delicious. The pork pieces were huge and tender. Often times when you order ramen, some places have pork that is big but tough to eat because it hasn't been cooked long enough. Not so here. The pieces of pork in my ramen were all perfectly cooked. Fork tender. And again, very plentiful. The broth was thin for my taste, but nonetheless very delicious. Small kine heat/spice but you can taste the time and effort it took to make it. The rest of the menu looked good but we really needed food that reminded us of home (Hawaii). We were a few days into staying in Salem, Oregon and we just needed some comfort food so the 20-30min drive here was a no-brainer. We will definitely come back when we return on our next trip to Oregon.

To be honest, this place probably deserves closer to three stars, but I didn't quite have the heart…read moreto rate it that low. I know firsthand how challenging it can be for small business owners--especially immigrant-owned businesses. That said, there were several shortcomings that affected our experience. The issues started when ordering. There were two vegetarians in our group, and while many of the ramen dishes listed an option to add vegetables, I wanted to confirm whether the broth itself was vegetarian. Unfortunately, our server repeatedly said she didn't know and didn't offer to check with the kitchen. One ramen listed a miso broth, which is typically vegetarian, but when I asked about that specifically, I received the same response. To be safe, we ordered the clearly labeled vegetarian ramen, while my husband ordered the miso ramen. His dish arrived almost immediately, while the rest of us waited at least 15 minutes longer. When his ramen was delivered, there was no explanation or indication that ours was coming shortly. He tried to eat slowly so we could eat together, but he was nearly finished by the time our bowls arrived. One other small but noticeable issue: it was around Christmas, and the holiday music playlist was extremely limited. We heard the same songs rotate four times, which became a bit distracting. My advice would be to invest more in server training, especially around menu knowledge, and perhaps update the music playlist. With some improvements in service and attention to detail, this place could be much better.

The sake flight was also tasty and fun. My partner found the matcha ipa to be unexpectedly good. The menu could be easier to read though! Inconsistent formatting and usage of pictures. Skip the croquettes though, these were bland deep fried breaded mashed potatoes that seems like they'd been heated from frozen mass produced. TLDR: Ramen AMAZING, croquettes meh.

The vegan and GF choices here were actually exciting. My friends ordered the vegan Khao Soi and the Kati noodle soups, and both were full, thoughtful dishes, not afterthoughts. It made dinner so much easier and way more enjoyable for our whole group. This isn't a traditional ramen shop, but my husband's black garlic chintan was every bit as satisfying as some of our favorite ramen spots back in the Bay. Rich, comforting, and absolutely worth ordering at $19 for a hearty bowl. (The others were slightly pricier at $24 a pop) That said, the star of the night was my spicy shrimp ramen. Easily. The broth reminded me of a laksa base with a deep, layered flavor heavy with aromatics and umami. The shrimp on top were excellent in their own right, perfectly seared, well-seasoned, and not just a garnish pretending to matter. I also want to give the ramen eggs a shout out. I can't believe how many places get this wrong. These beauties were perfectly marinated and served warm. It's one of my biggest pet peeves to have an ice cold ramen egg dropped into my hot soup and I appreciate the consideration given to addressing this common faux pas. Fast service, a beautiful outdoor patio with a great view, and food that genuinely impressed all of us. Highly recommend if you're in the area.
