I have been using the chai tea scented soap and it smells and feels good. I love it and will buy another bar of it when this one gets small. I will also refill my Trader Joe's laundry detergent when it gets low although that will take a while because I don't use it much, just to hand wash my bras. It's a drive for me to get here, but finally visited this summer 2024 ~ joined a friend who was coming here for a pickup (of pantry items from another zero waste company I missed the name of). Fillgood has a nice curated selection of items, and I ended up getting a few items such as compostable sponges for dishwashing, and a lavender-orange hand sanitizer for refilling into my spray bottle. The concept of this shop- eliminating single-use plastics without sacrificing quality- is what makes Fillgood one of my favorite local businesses. On my first visit, I moseyed in, perused the shelves, asked questions and got a sense of what they had for my needs. I decided to come back with my own glass jars (even though they have plenty you can use) because I had a lot at home. Each of my 5-6 subsequent visits has been great. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, offering suggestions and options based on what I want. The products are high quality with natural ingredients. My favorite products are dish soap (lavender bulk), and deodorant cream (grapefruit lemon) but I find interesting new items each time I go. I wish more people would give Fillgood a try. read more

I love this idea, store and the owner and her employee's. I have been using these products since the beginning of the store's conception. Laundry detergent, hand soap, dishwashing soap, and dish soap. I have not bought any plastic bottles since the owner started her business in 2018? I can say that they consistently update their products finding the ones that work for cleaning and that help to not pollute the planet. Every 6 months I go in to refill my jars and see what else is new, maybe new scrubbing cloths, bamboo utensils, makeup, or just check our the shelves. The staff is efficient taking care of customers. I buy dish soap, dishwasher, soap, face cream, sunblock, shampoo, conditioner, and on and on...and for me one of the best parts is I can get it all unscented! I walked past this place on my morning walk and it looked really cool so I tried peering inside and looked around for business hours. The owner saw me and let me into the store even though it wasn't open yet. It was so kind of him to do that. The store has a ton of reusable goods that you can buy ranging from makeup all the way to kitchen goods. I picked up a couple reusable bags and they were pretty affordable too. When I tried to shop here recently, I stepped into the store 3 mins before it was supposed to open, which I had not realized. The front door was open, and I foolishly thought that meant customers were welcome. An employee jumped all over me, practically yelling that they weren't open yet. Ok, well I was fine to wait the few minutes. I step in again a few mins after the hour and another different employee jumps all over me about not being open. I inform them that it is indeed a few mins after the hour. They don't apologize. Since this store is so eager not to have customers, I will just as eagerly recommend you don't bother shopping there. Fillgood has a great selection of plastic free low waste items. They carry many things you would see at low waste online store such as makeup from Elate, personal care items from Plaine Products, Patch, Who Gives A Crap, and Meow Meow Tweet, cleaning products from Meliora and Miss Apple, and general items such as scrub brushes, tooth brushes, mason jar cups, lunch boxes, facial pads, moon cups, and all types and sizes of organic mesh bags. I would love to see them carry Silver Falls Sustainability's lip balm, laundry sheets from Tru Earth and Friendsheep's wool ornaments and décor but those are really the only three brands that I was missing when I browsed their shelves. While a few of the items are cheaper online, for those who like feeling or seeing items first (especially with makeup) Fillgood is a great store with a lot of selection to help you get tuned into what's out there and currently available in low waste and plastic free. read more

You bring in your own containers, they weight it out to deduct what you really get from their store. I love that they have many selection to chose from and all very friendly to the sensitive skin. They also smell great too and not overwhelming. If you are sensitive to scents, they have non scented options too. They also have various Knick knacks to look at. From stainless steel lunch canteen, stainless steel razor blades, straws, tote bags, etc. it's fun just to look around. read more

*a review during the COVID-19 pandemic* I recently moved back to the Bay Area after living in OC and I needed a new zero waste store. I came here during the week around when they opened for the day and there was plenty of parking close to the store. I was greeted by one of the staff members when I entered and she gave me some hand sanitizer before entering the store. If you're unfamiliar with a zero waste store, you can bring your own container to refill on any beauty, bath, or household product or they have containers for you to use. They also sell plenty of eco-friendly/sustainable products. I'm always happy to support a local business and I love that I have a new zero waste store to go to. I am 200% enthusiastic about the body care products I get here. Besides being all less waste, and eco friendly. The shit is good! I use bar conditioner, shave bar, hair balm. I'll take pictures later. Also I bring in containers to get liquid hand soap. I DO think next time, I'll make sure they take a TARE (the weight of the container) off of the cost of the product. Make sure you do too! The weight of the jar or whatever might be 1/3 of the weight of the total cost! And that would be a HUGE rip off. read more

Today we came by for refills for our main staples and they were closed for inventory but they let us in and were super helpful. I can't not say enough good things about this brand. I got the pleasure to meet the owner who is someone who truly believes into the goal of the brand which is to save plastic, be eco-friendly and provide healthy products. I trust all their products and tried many of them over the past years. They are always high quality. Now you need to try, they are organic and plastic free so some may fit your needs, some may not. Some of my favorite are the dish soap, laundry, shampoo bar etc...delivery isn't as frequent than other brands, some products are sold out but it's worth to help a small business and have the insurance that you're helping the earth and your health. read more

However, I am a single mother and many times have brought my toddler to Fillgood with me and every time one of the staff members has been less than kind to me and/or my daughter. I used to love Fillgood. When I lived in Palo Alto I could get items delivered to my door. Now that I live in San Leandro it is more difficult since they do not deliver to many East Bay addresses. I live 35 minutes away and have wasted 2 trips to their store. The first time, the detergent I specifically came for was sold out. Today, I drove another 35 minutes and arrived a few minutes after 6:00 pm. My daughter ran in to ask if they could just sell a gallon of lavender detergent to which they said they were closed and would only help the last customer in the store. I will have to purchase my Puretergent products directly from the manufacturer from now on. This is truly disappointing because I used to love coming to their store. read more

I've been shopping at (and getting local deliveries from) Fillgood for years. They've got a lot of great bulk cleaning and beauty products to choose from, plus a bunch of zero-waste home goods, makeup, skincare, etc. I get all my hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, stain removers, etc. from them as well as a lot of my skincare and makeup there. They sell David's toothpaste without the plastic cap and metal key, which is awesome because I felt super guilty getting a new metal key every time. I love that you can bring extra jars and bottles to the store to be used by other people to fill up. read more

I've been happily using their Bay Area delivery service lately but since I would be in the area, had a very efficient and safe trip in today! Arrived at my appt time, allowed in after applying hand sanitizer, and picked my own products from the shelves while they filled jars they had on hand with my choice of hand and dish soap. You get the whole variety shop to yourself and it's easy to leave with a lot! And FYI they have an area to drop off your empty containers/bag next to the door. read more

Sorry to be the naysayer here, but as the 2 stars denotes: "It could've been better." I hope that improves. I really like the concept. And I want to support local businesses, particularly those trying to reduce waste. So this place seemed like a good fit. I'd been there once before and found what I needed, and was happy with that. But I don't want to have to either waste my time going in person to see if they have what I need in stock, or use facebook messenger to find out if they have what I need in stock. To me that defeats the purpose of buying local. Things here are not cheap, and even when you supply your own containers, prices of things I was interested in come out to more than purchasing online and having them delivered to your door. While I'm certainly grateful to now have the privilege to be able to spend more for to shop locally if I choose to do so, I don't really want to do so when the business doesn't consider my time as valuable as their own. The problem for me first arose when I could not find a phone number for Fillgood. I looked all over their website and google, but nothing came up. I wanted to see if they had the item I needed in stock before taking the time to walk the 2+ miles for nothing. And I def didn't want to drive up Solano for a single item. After running out of what I needed, I made the time to walk up there. When I arrived, there was one staff person and one customer inside. The staff person did not acknowledge me (though the customer, who was very friendly, did). I looked for the item I wanted, which appeared to be out of stock. I waited patiently for the first customer to be taken care of, but the staff person appeared to be searching for something online for the customer. After a few minutes, the customer actually suggested the staff member help me and offered to leave her contact info for whatever it was she was looking for. I was grateful to the customer, but surprised and disappointed that the staff would need another customer to mention this. When the customer left, I asked about the item I came for, which was confirmed out of stock. I mentioned I'd tried to find a contact number to , and the staff essentially check on the item before coming, and staff essentially said they didn't have a number because it would be too hard to answer the phone and help customers at the same time. I was also informed that I could send a message via facebook if I had questions.... That kind of floored me. I mean, not everyone uses or wants to use facebook, and even if you do, it doesn't mean you would think to use, or want to use, facebook as a means of contacting a local business just to see if they have an item in stock. Further, and more importantly, retail businesses have been answering the phone AND helping in store customers for decades. Apparently that's a practice Fillgood feels needed to change. But it's one of the reasons I generally prefer local businesses- you can actually reach them when you have a question without having to rely on the internet, and even worse, social media. The reasoning provided also fell short, as in all the times I've passed this store, I've never seen more than a couple customers inside at one time. The one other time I went there, there were two staff people and one other customer. I like to shop local to support local business. To me "local business" means a place that is accessible to the local community without the use of internet or social media. This place seems to take the bent that customers should either use the internet to contact them, or take time out of their own day to schlep over here to find out if they have something in stock. If I have to use the internet to find out if they have something, I may as well place an online order at a place that charges less and will deliver it to my door, thereby saving me time to go and do something I enjoy, which generally does not include buying toiletries and other sundry items. With some attitude adjustments and easier accessibility, I'd gladly shop here, but otherwise it's not worth taking extra time out of my day. read more

This is my favorite zero waste store in the Bay Area, especially for plastic free personal care products like shampoo, deodorant, etc. I've tried almost every shampoo bar out there, from Whole Foods to Lush to farmers markets, and the products from this store are by far the best. The shampoo bars run about 12-15$ a bar, but they last about 6+ months if used properly. (So realistically the price is comparable to a nice shampoo in a plastic bottle- but without the plastic!!). The bars are also great for travel, so you're not wasting/ using Hotel shampoo's in little containers. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable about zero waste lifestyle, and they are very open to exploring + researching new products:) This store is such a wonderful addition to the solano Albany area, and I highly recommend checking it out if you are curious about a plastic free life!
