David Cruz is both a master craftsman as well as a jack-of-all-trades. He did a complete remodel of our kitchen and bathroom with truly excellent results. His cabinetry is simply top-notch -- which we expected based on friends' recommendations -- but really, everything he puts his hands on comes out perfectly. He handled some unexpected plumbing/electrical/dryrot issues without batting an eye. He accommodated our plan and timeline changes without getting flustered. Our project was completed on-time and on-budget. On a personal note, I should add that working with David was simply a pleasure. He seems to always be in a good mood and enjoying his craft. My family of 4 continued to live in the house during the remodel, and David was extremely tidy in his workspace and conscientious about getting to certain milestones (like, getting our kitchen sink back) in a timely manner. We all started thinking of him and Sima like loved family members, and we missed them when the project was complete.

David came to our rescue (on high recommendation) on a kitchen remodel right before our son was born. Our ask was to replace our sink, customized cabinets, re-paint our cabinets, tile our kitchen backsplash, and remove our island; all in 3 weeks. David was attentive and thoughtful when consulting us on our ask and was communicative and fast without sacrificing quality when doing the work. The end result is a fantastic kitchen that breathes new life into our small SF condo and afforded us the ability to: add a dining table and more space for our infant to crawl around + a sink we can bathe him in. We're incredibly thankful for David's work on the kitchen remodel and for his kindness and support after when stopping by to fix an electric socket because he was in the area and didn't want us to stress about it for long given our infant.

We found David a couple of years ago when he updated our drab (yellow) 1950's bathroom to a sparkling marble and subway tile marvel. After years of making by with a DIY walk-in-closet (see before pic), my partner and I finally sprung for the real thing (see after). Starting with an initial consultation (1hr). He presented designs and a quote a week later (full materials + labor). We hesitate to recommend him because he's just that good. Reasonable prices, responsive, tidy, and personable -- David is a creative artist. David made our California Closets fantasy come true and we couldn't be happier.

I was so excited to have my room remodeled! David was a good choice when looking for a carpenter, he was willing to do his best and gave me creative ideas on how he can build something so incredible! I chose David for his reputation, he did this closet in less than 2 weeks. He built it from ground up, everything done by scratch! I like the fact that I had two side worth of shoe holders for all my shoes, plus enough closet space for all my long and short clothes and dresses! He put some drawers to complete it. He painted my walls and took out some old ugly popcorn ceiling, and motion sensor lights, plus the incredible bamboo wood flooring! Please choose David for your home upgrades and the beauty that will follow on your home, whether it is your bedroom, bathroom, office space, living room or even your outdoor garden! He is the best and I love my new bedroom upgrade!!!! Reasonable prices too....

The installer, Tobbie, was incredibly efficient (!), friendly and supportive in helping me decide on some of the small nuances of a new installation. They were back to install the new countertop in a few days which was a *big delight. The only feedback I have for the company is for the scheduler, owner and contractor to all get on the same page about timeline - the scheduler kept saying 1.5-2 weeks, everyone else said a couple days. I was glad they came back within a couple days but knowing a more appropriate timeline would've helped me manage my work (and other responsibilities) in a more grounded way. I highly recommend working with this company!

Top quality business all the way. I am so very grateful to have found them - and so glad I didn't go with another counter place (whose bid was twice as much) or the cheap laminate counters that I almost installed. My only regret is that I didn't take better photos. Bay Countertops has my highest recommendation - we'll be going back to them with another project soon.

Avoid for Large Projects - Poor Communication, Costly Mistakes, and Delays…read more I would not hire R&A Stone and Tile unless you are a contractor yourself and can monitor the job 24/7. They may be fine for small tiling jobs, or a cheap kitchen flip that you don't care about the quality but anything beyond that is a mistake. Project Experience: -Disorganized & Poor Communication: Ruben, the contractor, constantly miscommunicated with his crew, leading to errors and wasted time. The crew speaks limited English, and Ruben failed to properly relay instructions. -Constant Rescheduling & Delays: The project was plagued with intentional delays because they were trying to juggle randoms crew members to the job site. They do not have a dedicated crew. To keep the job moving, I had to step in and install my stove hood myself. Quality of Work: -Minimal Supervision & Costly Mistakes: Ruben was only on-site for 30 minutes to an hour a day. The crew made frequent errors, wasted materials, and ultimately cost me an extra $5,000 in materials. Unprofessional Workmanship: -A crew member (Adrian) improperly used self-leveling, causing mortar to seep through walls and doors. -The same worker almost set my kitchen on fire due to incorrect wiring. -A junior crew member (Manuel) threw away new materials, further increasing costs. -My husband and I had to redo the wall texture they applied because it was done so poorly. -The countertop was improperly installed (by Victor), leading to a post-installation crack. The contractor promised to fix it but was a no-show, wasting an entire day of our time. -The dishwasher was incorrectly installed (Ricardo), requiring my husband to take a day off to reinstall it. Material Pricing & Usage: The contractor ordered materials on my behalf, but the pricing changed and was increased without transparency. The crew also took materials I paid for to use on other job sites. Also on two occasions, we had to order more tiles at 3x the cost because all the measurements were incorrect. Other Issues: -The crew trashed and clogged our bathroom toilet. They denied responsibility until I installed a camera--only then did the issue stop. -Never reimbursed or refunded for damages and extra expenses. Final Verdict: Ruben is a nice guy and means well, but his company is not equipped for big jobs (over $10K). If you have a small bathroom tile job, they might be fine, but anything beyond that--find a better contractor. We rushed to finish the project just to be done with them, and in hindsight, we should have hired someone else from the start. Do not make the same mistake we did. 2/5 - Would not recommend for major home renovations. Recommend for small jobs only.

We hired a general contractor and agreed to use all of their selected subcontractors except for a small subset we insisted on selecting ourselves, including Custom Stone. Custom Stone came highly recommended by multiple stone suppliers and other fabricators in the Bay Area. The scope of our stone installation was large and it was critically important that we select a fabricator who had experience with higher-end homes and highest-quality installations. Our scope included a master bathroom consisting of a double vanity, an 8' tall all-slab master shower and an undermounted roman master bathtub; a large kitchen with multiple stone surfaces including a 12' x 9' island; two guest bathrooms with marble slab vanities; a guest bathroom all-slab shower; an all-slab marble surround and hearth for a 42" fireplace; a custom designed and constructed semi-precious slab backlit bar; and an outdoor BBQ counter with Neolith. At the outset of the project, Custom Stone joined us during trips to various stone yards, advised us on the considerations of different materials, and helped us to obtain the most competitive pricing with their relationships. During the fabrication process, Custom Stone sent us multiple detailed design mock-ups and welcomed us to participate in the process. They recently invested in state-of-the-art fabrication equipment and technology that enables Contractors and Owners to see exactly what output they can expect, and to efficiently and flexibly provide input into the design and configuration decisions. For example, their new 3-D Laser measuring system and real-time digital vein-matching software allowed us to approve our slab layout before the fabrication started. Custom Stone's CNC waterjet cutting machine enabled exceptionally precise cuts on the material that we didn't find possible with other fabrication firms, allowing Custom Stone to produce the highest-quality end products for our project. Custom Stone's work is uncontestably one of the highlights of the new home and has significantly enhanced its aesthetic and value. We cannot speak highly enough of their work and the process of working with them. They worked and collaborated well with other trades/subcontractors, offered up creative solutions and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality. When we were selecting our stone subcontractor, we considered five (5) criteria in the following stack-ranked order: (1) precision in design and craftsmanship, and attention to detail; (2) knowledge of products/materials; (3) design skill in assembling pieces to create contiguous and less visible seams; (4) use of current technology and tools; and (5) reliable and on schedule. Custom Stone achieved the highest marks across all five criteria. We would certainly recommend and hire them again for whatever scope project we consider in the future.

Based on my experience, you will not be disappointed. If you want to hear about the overall experience and level of service, then read on... I started off my search by messaging multiple people/companies about countertop fabrication and installation. Some messaged me back, some gave very minimal responses, some places had high prices, some didn't have time for all of my questions. This is the first time I've done any countertop work and I did a lot of research on many different places and scoured the Hayward/San Leandro area and beyond to look at different countertops, designs, etc. Alvaro always responded to all my messages and emails. Every single time. Sometimes my messages would be weeks apart. When I finally made my decision to go with him, it was well over a month from when I first contacted him. He stuck with me all along the way and that left an impression on me, especially in this type of business. I had a few strange questions about different options and configurations of the counters and he was always responsive with open and honest opinions and information. Once I finally picked out my material, he met me at the shop where I purchased the counter to check out the material and he helped me make sure we were getting a good piece that wasn't too warped. All of this helped reassure me that he approved of my selection and that his trained eye could notice things that I wouldn't be able to notice on my own. He picked up the slab with his truck and took it off to fabricate and cut. He showed up a few days later for the install and it was done in no time. Oh, I forgot to mention that he stopped by and did a consultation and looked everything over and provided a ton of really helpful advice and analysis of the job, how he would suggest doing it, what he wouldn't suggest etc. He also brought some samples with him for me to check out and offered a great price on countertops that he already had on hand. The entire experience is everything that you would hope for in a countertop install. I will recommend him to anyone that need any countertop work. The pricing was some of the best I could find, the work was high quality (still looking great and holding up 7 months in) and Alvaro was a pleasure to work with. Thank you very much for everything!

He was great and very clear answering my questions about the feasibility of the project, what material to use, and the timeline he could do the project in. He gave a great recommendation of where we could find a slab the size we needed (we needed an unusually large slab and he knew exactly where we could go - MSI in Hayward!). He came earlier this week to measure and make a template for the slabs, then came this morning to install with his team. It was quick, easy, and excellent! Him doing preparation with a template to take into account imperfections where we were going to install was excellent and the slabs look beautiful in our space. I highly recommend him!

From the very first visit, Paul set himself apart from other contractors I had met with -- he arrived fully prepared with a variety of material and color samples, thoroughly explained the refacing process, covered warranty details, took measurements, and even designed the layout, all in a single appointment. There was never any pressure to sign, which I genuinely appreciated. When questions came up after his visit, Paul responded quickly with a phone call followed by a detailed email complete with photos and examples. That level of follow-through is hard to find. Once I signed the contract, Jaime came by to confirm measurements and listen to my ideas, translating them into a well-defined project plan. The results speak for themselves -- everything was completed ahead of schedule. The cabinet refacing surpassed my expectations, and the material we selected not only looks stunning but feels great and is effortless to clean. The new coffee bar in the living room has become an absolute showstopper, and the added cabinets in the laundry area are both practical and well-crafted. Miguel, who handled the final installation, was a true professional -- communicative, courteous, and a pleasure to have in our home. The team wrapped up with a thorough walk-through and left everything immaculate. I've already recommended JV Cabinets to friends and family, and I would do so again without hesitation.

After completing the project and later comparing with other options, it became clear that the pricing was not aligned with the level of quality we received. The paint has started rubbing off within a year, the drawer hardware feels very low quality (mostly plastic), and the drawers did not close properly from the installation. The drawer slides and soft-close mechanisms are low quality, feel cheap and unreliable, and the slide system doesn't function properly. With our prior Ikea drawers, which had metal throughout, that was never an issue. These are fundamental issues that should not occur at this price point. Support was also a challenge. Communication felt defensive, and we had to follow up multiple times just to get someone to come out for fixes. Based on our experience, we would not recommend JV Cabinets. There are other providers offering solid wood cabinets with noticeably better build quality and finish for similar, or lower cost.
