A Joyful Cabinet Makeover - Literally! We recently had our kitchen cabinets redone and started, like most folks, by checking out the usual big box stores. We got the standard quotes and cookie-cutter designs, and honestly, nothing felt quite right. Then we were lucky enough to get a personal referral for a local company called Pride and Joy--and what a joy it truly was! From the very first visit, the team brought fresh, creative ideas that helped us make our kitchen space work for us--not just the typical "one size fits all" approach we kept running into elsewhere. We were thrilled! And the cherry on top? After a clean, efficient, and beautifully done install, we reached out with a question about a small issue unrelated to their cabinet work. We hired P&J to remodel/upgrade our kitchen. The project included refacing our cabinets and other remodel work. It did not include any floor work. We found we could not rely on P&J to do the work timely nor competently. P&J told us it was a simple project that would take 3 weeks. Yet, P&J took almost 3 months! We're not aware of any unforeseen problems that caused any delays; other than work that frequently needed to be redone and refinished. For example: regarding the refacing, P&J initially left the bottoms of the wall cabinets, and between doors, untouched and un-refaced; leaving large areas looking ugly and disgusting. At first, P&J denied they needed to be refaced. But after we confronted them with photos, they did finally complete the refacing; but it wasn't until months after their initial estimate. Quality issues also required P&J to re-install baseboards, re-install the garbage disposal, and redo other work. read more

We're ultimately mostly happy with the product we got from Jeffrey (new upper cabinets and a range hood box cover) but the communication, responsiveness, and attention to detail could have been better. It was often hard to get a response via email/text/calls, and he showed up very late or no-showed multiple times. Lastly, we had to do a fair amount of clean up after installation. read more

We needed to have our new electric double wall oven installed. Home Depot would deliver it and haul the old one away, but would not install it. It was a small job, but involved 3 visits to the house: once to precisely measure the cabinet opening (so we knew the specs to shop for), another to dismantle the old oven and remove it for hauling, and a third time to install the new one. Each time, Jeff and his son provided service with a smile, arriving when scheduled and worked very efficiently to make sure the new oven was level and fit like a glove. Highly recommend! read more

Jeffrey of Pride and Joy Home Improvements did an excellent job on my kitchen. Jeffrey completely listened to our design ideas AND added in ideas of his own without forcing it his direction. He did a partial reface job and some new construction. In fact, the bottom cabinets were supposed to be refaced but Jeffrey decided it was better to take them out completely and rebuild and he did so without added cost. His fees were in line with the quote - just be sure to understand upfront that appliances and certain various items (such as canned lights) are or may not be part of the quote. Please note this is not an error - Jeffrey did tell us but early on in the estimate process and i forgot. This is my second job with Pride and Joy - I had a great experience with my first kitchen that I called him up again when we moved into our next home. With both jobs he has fulfilled his estimate on how long the jobs would take! Both were about 3 weeks only, which is remarkable for a kitchen redo. i am confident that Jeffrey's many years of experience focusing on kitchen and baths has given him the confidence to estimate the correct amount of time each job will take. When faced with an area on our laminate floor that needed to be filled in due to removal of a counter, Jeffrey did it, even though we did not have him redo the floor. In reading the reviews for Pride & Joy and owner Jeffrey Swafford, they sounded almost too good to be true. I wasn't sure if they were legitimate or if Jeffrey's mother had written them. Well, I hired Jeffrey and found that even if his mother did write them, the descriptions of his excellent work were all true. Jeffrey refaced all of the kitchen cabinets, ran under-cabinet LED lighting, removed overhead cabinets that blocked the line of sight into the family room, installed some new cabinets to increase storage space, modified some existing cabinetry so that a cook top could be replaced with a stand-alone range, installed new soft close drawers and soft close hinges on all the new cabinet doors, installed all new door handles and drawer pulls, removed an in-cabinet double oven and modified that cabinet, replaced the old florescent light fixture with LED lights, installed all the appliances, sink, garbage disposal, and plumbing fixtures, and installed beautiful quartz counter tops and backsplashes. And most importantly it all came out beautifully. I highly recommend Jeffrey and Pride and Joy for updating or remodeling a kitchen. read more

We just had pre-existing kitchen cabinets re-faced. Beautiful craftsmanship. Very responsive - kept us posted on the process. Finished each day by cleaning up thoroughly and well in time for us to use the kitchen for the evening. Very trustworthy. Very reasonable quote - did not go over estimate. Time about as expected. May have been done a day sooner but he custom made corner drawers that take some time ( well worth it). A contractor friend of ours who knows what he's looking at was impressed - said it's difficult to do this kind of work on site. Definitely recommend. The name says it all--I never realized a kitchen "face lift" could make me feel so much pride and joy in my home. I absolutely love my new counters and cabinets. Jeffrey Swafford really knows his stuff. He's professional and courteous; he offers advice and suggestions without being overbearing or obtrusive. Jeff explained all the logistics so we knew exactly what to expect from start to finish. And he's basically a good guy--he didn't try to sell us on replacing things we were already happy with. My husband did a "stop gap" remodel a few years back, so I was pleased when Jeffrey recommended keeping and refacing the existing island my husband had installed. He covered two ugly support beams with beautiful maple laminate, added shelving and cabinet doors for extra display and storage space, and made sure the finished product blended in beautifully with the rest of the kitchen. We also have two odd-shaped cabinets under a staircase, which he expertly rebuilt. This is the first time we have ever hired a home improvement contractor. To say I was gun-shy would be an understatement. As a real estate attorney of 28 years, I have heard all the horror stories--contractors botching jobs, showing up late (or not at all) or taking customers' money and then skipping town. Jeffrey showed up when he said he would and did a stunning job for a fantastic price. He is a true craftsman who takes pride in his work and pays attention to the little details, even going the extra mile to "tweak" a few things to make sure we were completely satisfied with the end result. Both my husband and I work at home during the day, so I was worried about the disruption of taking on this long-overdue kitchen project and having workers traipsing about the house. What can I say that has not already been said in all of the previous reviews.... I can only agree with all of these rave reviews. Jeffrey is a super nice guy who delivers on all of his promises. He offered great suggestions for our kitchen remodel, which included substituting large drawers in place of lower cabinets and we just LOVE them! In addition to refacing our existing cabinets, he replaced all of the existing drawers, with new soft close drawers (which he made himself) and new soft close cabinet doors, which we also love. He also did the install of all of our new appliances and kitchen sink and arranged for the fabrication of our new quartz countertops and backsplash. All of the workmanship was stellar. My husband and I are both retired, so we were around to watch the progress. As others have said, Jeffrey is easy and fun to have around, despite the disruption of having the kitchen is disarray. Jeffrey cleaned up every day before he left. We did have to wait around 3 months before Jeffrey could start our project, because he is in high demand, but well worth the wait. The price he quoted us at the time of signing the contract is the price we paid in the end, pretty unheard of in the construction business, from what I have heard from others AND he finished the project on time! read more

We were so happy to find Jeffrey again after Kitchen Works went out of business. Jeffrey remodeled our kitchen for us through Kitchen Works in 2008. Kitchen Works advertised a lifetime guarantee, but went out of business in the recession the year after we did our kitchen. We needed a hinge and roll out shelf repaired and, fortunately we kept Jeffrey's card. We called him and he came right out. He does high quality work, is very reliable and responsible and fun to talk to. We love our new kitchen (see picture)! Wow, what a great experience having our kitchen refaced by Pride and Joy. Not only is our new kitchen absolutely gorgeous, but working with Jeffrey has been a wonderful experience. For starters, he shows up on time: for the initial visit, contract signing, and work days. He is very knowledgeable and creative, and came up with several suggestions that were very helpful. He even talked us OUT of replacing the island counter top because he thought he could successfully sand its butcher block surface. He was right: it came out great. Of course, had he not advised us to do this, he could have sold and installed a nice, pricy granite or stone top. But he opted to save us some money AND restore a beautiful piece of wood. We also appreciated that he is a very good communicator and very patient with customers (US!) who were having trouble making up their minds about which woods and stains to select. The real bottom line, though, is his impeccable workmanship. It's truly amazing......everything was executed perfectly. You just can't ask for better craftsmanship. He also didn't nickel and dime us about minor requests we made along the way, and even cleaned up thoroughly after each work day. After getting a quote from a big box store, we wanted to get a second one from a local business and we're glad we did! Jeffrey took the time to talk about the options after hearing about what we were looking for, was very personable and friendly, and it was great talking to the person who was actually going to be doing the work so there was no communication issues, or a salesman promising everything he could to close whether the work could be done or not. Come time of the job, he and Constantine were great about sectioning everything off and cleaning as they went. We still had to do a bit after it was done, but nowhere near the amount we were expecting from kitchen construction. And once all that was done he even came back to tighten up a couple of little things a couple of weeks later after work one night. 5 Stars aren't enough to adequately represent Jeffrey Swafford and his business. I am writing this review and the project is only half completed. My husband and I are not novices to home improvement and remodeling; in fact, we have remodeled 4 houses and we know how to evaluate the folks who we hire to do the things we can't do for ourselves (and we can do an awful lot for ourselves). It took us 2 months to finally happen upon Jeffrey / Pride & Joy, after getting 3 other quotes from folks who then didn't even get back to us. The lack of communication alone by the other contractors disqualified them from working with us. I actually hesitated to contact Jeffrey because when I read his reviews on Home Advisor, I figured he would be out of our budget. But I called him anyway. He called me back within 24 hours and made an appointment for about 4 days later to come by and do the consult. He showed up when he said he would and, unlike any of the others we had interviewed, he stood right there in our kitchen and calculated the bid. When he turned the paper around and showed it to me, I was stunned. It was $4,000 lower than the lowest bid we had already gotten - THIS from THE cabinet refacing specialist that the fancy families in Lafayette and Walnut Creek all raved about on Home Advisor! It seemed too good to be true and I told him so. He admitted that he is not always the lowest bid. We hired him on the spot; Jeffrey clearly knew his stuff. He has been doing this work since he was a teenager. It is his calling, and he has worked for the most well-known cabinet outfits out there. He then remained in the kitchen that first time and performed his first drawings (by hand) of our kitchen. He gave us a start date right then and there (which was about 3 months out, but that was fine by us), we signed the contract with all of our fussy little requests included in there, and the hard part was over. Jeffrey also came up with design ideas for improvements to our current cabinet configuration that none of the other consultants had suggested. After that we picked our paint, we picked our pulls and knobs, he showed up about a week before the project start-date with a mock-up door, and then he showed up on the start date before 9 am to start work. As I said, the job is half done and it is jaw-dropping gorgeous. Honestly (and I told him this), he should charge more. I don't think he is making money on this job, and he certainly deserves to. Boy is he a hard worker (who sweats the details. My husband is a German engineer and he scrutinizes details of fit, finish and functionality), and also just a tremendous human being. You simply will to find a better person to reface your cabinets. read more

I have lived in my home for almost 25 years and never had a new kitchen. It was time. Jeff came over and gave us a very fair estimate to reface the cabinets, put in new countertops, dishwasher, backsplash and lighting. Because I hadn't replaced anything ( other than the floor) in 25 years, I knew very little about what countertops to pick, what backsplash would work, etc. Jeff was instrumental in helping me make decisions about all of these. He is very knowledgeable and made some great suggestions about adding a floor to ceiling pantry and replacing the drawers with new ones. Those things made such a difference.
