10/10. Simply could not be more satisfied with Lema Construction and Luis. We used Lema for installation of five new windows upstairs and downstairs, patching and painting throughout our house, and for a full remodel of an upstairs office. During the process we also added on several extra paint jobs for bedrooms and patch jobs for other work. Throughout the whole process, Luis was incredibly responsive. Invoices and billing was very detailed, very clear, and very fair. And the entire crew was always professional and the work quality was excellent. The network of quality contractors Luis knows is a great bonus and incredibly helpful. I've already recommended them to several friends and will definitely call on them again when we have more projects. -- Also, the construction work was due to updating our house from knob and tube wiring -- and the electrician we ended up using was also recommended by Lema -- and they were excellent as well (Galvez Electrical). read more

Lema Construction - Forgot to take a "before" picture -- but this room was an add-on from decades ago and had been a disaster before the remodel. - Electricians Near Me - San Leandro, California

Extremely professional, courteous, and communicative. Luis and team replied right away to my questions, worked with the window supplier to ensure everything was correct before ordering, and managed the installation above board and transparently. Lema came back to finalize details and ensure we were happy with the finished work. They also were able to recommend other contractors for recommended work discovered during their time on-site. Highly recommended! I'll be using them again. read more

We worked with Lema Construction to replace a door and window. Luis was very responsive and a total professional. The project was rather involved; the original door jamb needed to be modified to fit the new door. The crew did an amazing job. They were on time , pleasant to be around, and true craftsmen. Luis worked with our schedule, and everything was done in a timely manner. We have worked with Lema before; they always show up, get the job done, and do it right. We highly recommend Lema Construction! read more

We had Luis and his company, LEMA Construction, repair exterior walls affected by dry rot damage. The scope of work included stucco removal, replacing damaged sheathing and framing, installing insulation, and patching the stucco to match the existing finish. They did an excellent job, professional, thorough, and of high quality. We are very satisfied with their work and highly recommend Luis Moreno and LEMA Construction. read more

I truly enjoyed working with Luis Moreno of Lema Construction and his supervisor, Jose and the crew. We had a very tight time schedule with which to get this remodel completed and Luis and his team fulfilled our every expectation, working hard on weekends down to the last day. Whenever there was a problem that came up Luis was a consummate professional and dealt with every issue with patience and kind & reasonable consideration. The quality of the project and workmanship was excellent. Attention to detail was taken at every step. They had innovative suggestions when dealing with this 114 year-old Victorian home. It's not often that you walk away from a large remodel project with a consistently positive memory of the experience. I have and would highly recommend Luis Moreno and LEMA Construction. read more

Luis and his team at Lema Construction exceeded our expectations and completed a renovation that created our dream kitchen. From start to finish, Luis and all of his crew were kind, polite, communicative, and resourceful. Any hiccups were overcome with impressive expertise, with never a complaint. We were so impressed with Luis's ability to offer multiple reasonable solutions to any hurdle along the way, and to deliver beautiful results no matter the obstacle. Additional requests and changes of scope mid-project were accommodated gracefully, prices for added work were fair, and our satisfaction was Luis's obvious focus. We are sure that Luis and Lema Construction will be our first choice when the time is right for our next project. read more

We are just wrapping up a whole house renovation with Lema Construction and truly could not be happier with their work and our experience working with them. Luis and his crew are incredibly thorough, responsive, and flexible, and the quality of their work is very high. In several cases they suggested changes that were an improvement to our plans. To top it off they are all genuine, nice people who we really enjoyed getting to know. We felt they had our best interests at heart and could trust them completely. If you're planning on anything from cabinet work to painting to tiling to a one room renovation to an entire home remodel, we highly recommend them. read more

Lema Construction installed 2 windows and 2 sliding doors in my townhome with excellent results. I have had Milgard windows installed in several prior rentals so I knew what to expect in terms of the product, so i was focused on the installation process and quality of the trim and finish work and it's great. They were efficient and non-intrusive and I was able to work from home without interruption. Leszek communicated with me all along the way, which was appreciated because COVID has resulted in long delays in the arrival of the doors/windows. Also, the price was significantly lower than I have paid prior installers. All in all, I'm very pleased and will call them again for my next project. Thanks Leszek and crew! read more

We used Lema for the first time recently and were thoroughly impressed. Luis came to our house to meet and followed up shortly with an estimate. He was kind, courteous and knowledgeable. We had his team do electrical work on our bathroom, hallway and replace old light fixtures. They explained exactly what they're going to do and checked in with us from start to finish to make sure it was all up to par. They are truly perfectionists and even came back to patch up a few things they noticed that even I didn't. I would 100% recommend them and look forward to scheduling our next project soon. read more

Contacted this company for a roofing replacement estimate over two weeks ago. Went over details of the roofing project in detail. I explained my urgent need and interest in the job with a time frame Lema construction can work with etc. I have not heard from Lema or received a written quote back from Lema. I think this is unprofessional and odd that a company will potentially turn down a roofing job for no apparent reason. I personally think this company is showing and displaying prejudice toward me who is a black American male living in a predominantly black neighborhood. read more

We were lucky to have Luis and his crew replace seven second floor windows. Their quality of work and speed were impressive. They were very cooperative in working around every issue, working with the City of Alameda for permits, and other contractors working on different projects simultaneously on our home. I hired Lema to remodel a kitchen and bathroom for a client of mine, and it was a very positive experience. I've since hired them to do a deck for my personal home next. Luis worked on the remodel of our place with the former owners. When we bought the place, there were a couple of things that needed to be fixed as part of the sale agreement. Luis worked with us on them, and while he was really nice, there seemed to being some things lacking about his skills. 1. The garbage disposal needed to be replaced. Luis did this really quickly, which was great, until we tried to use it and found out that he forgot to take out a plug that needed to be removed on installation. 2. Luis needed to install the pull--down ladder to the attic. He ordered the ladder for us and then came out and cut a hole in our ceiling and put the ladder in that he brought. Once it was installed, he opened it up...at which point we realized that the ladder was 3 feet too short. Then he goes out to his truck and brings back a set of three steps that he built to put under the ladder. The box was plywood and about 3 feet wide by 3 feet long and 3 feet high. Ummm, doesn't look so safe and where are we supposed to store this? I ended up going on line and ordering a ladder the right height and we got the attic ladder replaced. Later, we returned from a trip and noticed that the molding on the living room was bowed out. There had been an earthquake, so we thought it was from that. We called Luis to see if he could take a look at it. He came over and said it was clearly earthquake damage and perhaps his cousin could fix it. I wasn't able to get a hold of his cousin, so we found another contractor. The minute he came over, he took one look and said, "That's not from an earthquake, that's water damage." Turns out we had a slow leak from a screw that was through one of the copper pipes to the master bath. It had been slowly leaking since the place was re-done, causing the wood to gradually swell until it popped off. Not Luis' fault, it just reinforced we'd rather work with another contractor. read more

Luis has been remodeling our Montclair (Oakland, CA) home and our parents' Richmond home for the past year. He's completed at least 30 different projects from painting to door installations to electrical to wood floor repair to building a heated room on a hillside home to metal work to pouring concrete to repairing my house's siding to..... You get the idea. Luis and his team provide a range of services and all exceptionally well. Luis and his team's workmanship, integrity, timeliness, professionalism and pricing are exceptional and we continue to do business with Lema Construction. I hesitated to post this because Luis is truly exceptional as a contractor and I'm not ready to share him with the world. But he is the real deal: honest, courtesy and a man of his word. read more

It took me having to work with another contractor to learn just how special Luis and his crew are. Luis literally chauffeured me around to various electrical, fixture, and lighting vendors and helped me make every decision. He even used his contacts to get discounts. Luis does a daily meeting in the morning to communicate everything that is happening, any new discoveries, and to make sure things are going smoothly. You will never be left wondering what is going on. What really counts is that his finished product was excellent. Plus, his attitude is always positive and fun to work with. He's the first person I would recommend to anyone. read more

I am a designer and have worked with Lema construction for maybe six or more jobs. From high end bathrooms, to exterior flatwork, to complete home remodels that included kitchens, bathrooms, window replacement, HVAC, and plumbing relocation. Luis and his crew are professional, trustworthy and more than capable of tackling complicated jobs with fussy clients. Luis is a problem solver, with reliable trade resources on areas that are not his expertise. I have examined his estimates and walked through jobs with him prior to construction always with a very willing attitude to explore a sometimes less expensive way or more efficient way of doing something. We discuss potential surprises that better inform the client of what may occur. And he NEVER estimates a job and purposely leaves things out so he can mark up a change order. i have found there are two types of contractors. The ones that are grateful for the job, and once they are there, will actually charge less on change orders, (because they are there anyway), and the guys that take full advantage of change orders because they gotcha in a desperate situation. This is not Luis. He and I worked on a job where the client was living out of the area, and she needed to rely on a contractor she could trust, and that I could work with where i represented her needs on a daily basis. This included difficult parking situations and new neighbors. Luis and his crew were trusting, reliable, resourceful, and courteous. This particular project included almost everything remodeled including fire sprinklers over 3 months. The result was a very happy client. Another recent client had us built a new second story deck, install new doors, rematch stucco, and upgrade electrical and plumbing systems. Over the years, he has secured his core crew so that the rough construction is in-house and reliable, making his costs easier for him to estimate, and less expensive to the client. He has also discovered his weaknesses and knows that when it comes to specialty trades like stucco, landscaping, gutters, finish on flatwork, and roofing, he relies on the subs that he has built relationships with. He will not "do everything" anymore, and for me that is the sign of a good contractor. I highly recommend Luis and Lema Construction. He warranties his work and you will not be disappointed. read more

We enjoyed working with Luis Moreno, owner of Lema Construction and his crew and subcontractors. We did a whole house remodel and addition. It was a very positive experience. It was completed on time and on budget. We lived in our home throughout the process and Luis made it liveable for us to do that. We replaced windows, updated electrical and plumbing, new heating system, refinished hardwood floors, fixed plaster cracks and added 100 square feet to the house. We would highly reccomend Lema Construction and would use them again. read more

Luis at Lema has been helping us since he did an inspection on our house a year ago. He did a larger scale interior renovation before we moved in, bathroom renovation, new lighting, wall removal, converting the garage back to a garage, installing the electronics and mounts for an above the fireplace tv, door replacement and new doors installed. It was a long list of things that kept growing the more we came and saw the work. It was delightful to work with him. He is always understanding and helpful. Finds less expensive alternates if we are looking to save some money on things and did the high end work for the more visible parts of the house. We absolutely love working with him. His team is courteous, prompt, and their craftsmanship is amazing. We have since had Luis do an exterior renovation and we have had countless neighbors come and ask for his information. I hear terrible stories about contractors all the time and count myself so lucky to have met Luis. Unqualified recommendation for him and his team every time. read more

This review is long overdue. Luis came highly recommended to us from a friend (who is an architect). And Luis stood up to our high expectations. He is courteous, knowledgeable and fast. And has a high attention to detail. We were renovating, and to some extent restoring, the interiors of an old victorian. He helped us recreate custom trim to match that of the house, perform significant structural changes, re-do the bathrooms, restore wooden floors. Being an old house, there were many surprises, but Luis was very helpful in guiding us through the changes, and the results look spectacular. Could not recommend him more highly. read more

Luis Moreno and his crew have done two remodeling jobs for me. My house was built in 1940 and virtually every wall we open contains a "surprise". Luis always has excellent, practical ideas for correcting these issues as well as for implementing the designer's plans. His team is highly professional and versatile -- they've done electrical work, beautiful stone design, finish carpentry as well as french drains, strong walls and reframing for new doors and windows. They handle their jobs with skill and professionalism -- as well as a terrific attitude. They are highly respectful of the house -- taking great care to clean up each night and minimize the disruption during the day. Anyone who's lived through a remodel knows what a gift that is! My husband and I recently completed an addition to our house with LEMA construction and we are extremely happy with their work. I didn't know where to start, I tried calling other contractors from Yelp, some of the contractors listed with "5 stars" hung up on me after I told them I didn't have architectural plans yet. I felt very disappointed and overwhelmed. Luckily, after talking to a co-worker about my plans to add to my house, they referred me to Luis Moreno. Luis guided me through the whole process, he even referred me to an Architect that was affordable and a pleasure to work with. Luis is kind and understanding, qualities that are hard to come by with contractors. Luis worked with us to stay within our budget and we couldn't be happier with the outcome of our addition. Also, his workers are very nice and hard working. I would not think twice about hiring LEMA for future construction work. read more

I purchased a trifold door and hired a terrible company to do the job. In short, door was taken back to Milgard because the initial installers couldn't do the job and we thought there was something wrong with the door. Lema Construction was recommended and what a difference. They did an amazing job and the price was reasonable. I realized he's been mentioned many times, but Luis, and his crew are amazing. I highly recommend them as they are skilled in their trade read more

We would love to work with Luis given the all the work we have to do, and the positive recommendations on here look great. Unfortunately, he said he'd give us an estimate after we sent him a photo (rather than coming by in person). Once we sent him the photo, it's been radio silence, despite multiple follow ups. I'm sure there's a reason, but we can't work with someone who is nonresponsive or unpredictable. Total bummer. read more

Wow. I'm at a loss of where to start. After seeing all the spectacular reviews (are they fake?) I decided to give this guy a shot. I have contacted Luis so many times but he never follows through on anything he commits to. Consulting with him was a complete waste of my valuable time! Beware because he is incredibly kind on the phone, only thing is I wouldn't hear from him again until I called him repeatedly. I'm not sure why he didn't tell me out the gate that he simply was not interested in the job. He pulled a "no show" the first time he was to come and provide me with an estimate which I arranged my entire day to do. He finally returned my phone call that evening saying he was "at a job site far away and turned off his phone". Hmmm. Strike one. He then says coming out to my house is unnecessary and instructs me to send him a picture of all the work with descriptions of the work I needed done and he will provide an estimate. I sent 5 detailed pictures and guess what? I never heard from him. Strike two. I have my husband call him again a week later and he confirms he received the pictures and says he will give me an estimate later that day. Guess what? You know the answer! Three strikes and you're completely out with me. He completely strung me along knowing the whole time he didn't want the job. My bottom line is that this man is largely inconsiderate and lacks the common decency to simply say no to a job he doesn't care to do. Zero stars from me. read more

Edgar and his helper just finished a repair/rebuild of my front stairs this afternoon. This is their second job at my house; the first was a fence on our west property line the week after Christmas 2014 (about 6 weeks ago). The fence project was tricky: an old fence had to come down first. When taking down the old fence, we discovered that it had been held up by two hollow pipes embedded in concrete, bricks, and rubble. The pipes were both now filled with rainwater, since their tops were never covered. "No problem!" and Edgar brought a jack-hammer to the site after lunch to take care of the concrete etc. The fence's bottom line had to adjust over the roots of a very large redwood tree while keeping the top line level. Edgar and his crew were definitely up to the job. :) The front stairs were a completely different scope of work. After the painter working on the exterior of my house discovered extensive dry rot in the front stairs, he showed it to me. I thought perhaps we could replace a few of the treads and risers and take care of the stair safety, but when the painter walked me around to the north sidewall of the stairs, I saw that this might not be the way to go.... I asked the painter whether he would be "more comfortable" if we hired a carpenter for the stairs, and he said Yes. Good thing, too! I got Lema Construction's number from our realtor, who is also a long-time acquaintance; Edgar had worked at her house, and she was "very pleased" with his work. Once he opened up the stairs, Edgar saw--and was quick to show me--that the dry rot was much more extensive than we had thought. He checked in with me: did I want him just to make the stairs "OK" or...? I said that I didn't want what was quickest or cheapest: if the stairs needed to be completely rebuilt, so be it; if the stairs could be repaired/replaced, that would be fine, too. All the risers and treads needed to be replaced. (Ten of each!) The north railing--replaced. The understructure--reinforced and added to when necessary (cross struts). New brick work to prevent earth/wood contact. Finishing touches that hadn't been in the stairs to begin with, but that he simply implemented and are simply wonderful. Caulking of every. single. joint. in the staircase. Letting the caulking cure before continuing to work in the same location. Etc. etc. etc. I only wish I had known about this contracting company sooner! :) read more

Luis loves a deadline. From the time I called him to see if he had time available for a remodel... to the completion date- was a total of 10 weeks. His work is detail oriented, competent, and consciousness. I have been through several remodels and this was the best experience I have ever had.
