We are the owners and designers of a nearly 4,000 square foot high-end home in Marin County for which we recently completed new construction. We hired a general contractor and agreed to use all of their selected subcontractors except for a small subset we insisted on selecting ourselves, including Custom Stone. Custom Stone came highly recommended by multiple stone suppliers and other fabricators in the Bay Area. The scope of our stone installation was large and it was critically important that we select a fabricator who had experience with higher-end homes and highest-quality installations. Our scope included a master bathroom consisting of a double vanity, an 8' tall all-slab master shower and an undermounted roman master bathtub; a large kitchen with multiple stone surfaces including a 12' x 9' island; two guest bathrooms with marble slab vanities; a guest bathroom all-slab shower; an all-slab marble surround and hearth for a 42" fireplace; a custom designed and constructed semi-precious slab backlit bar; and an outdoor BBQ counter with Neolith. At the outset of the project, Custom Stone joined us during trips to various stone yards, advised us on the considerations of different materials, and helped us to obtain the most competitive pricing with their relationships. During the fabrication process, Custom Stone sent us multiple detailed design mock-ups and welcomed us to participate in the process. They recently invested in state-of-the-art fabrication equipment and technology that enables Contractors and Owners to see exactly what output they can expect, and to efficiently and flexibly provide input into the design and configuration decisions. For example, their new 3-D Laser measuring system and real-time digital vein-matching software allowed us to approve our slab layout before the fabrication started. Custom Stone's CNC waterjet cutting machine enabled exceptionally precise cuts on the material that we didn't find possible with other fabrication firms, allowing Custom Stone to produce the highest-quality end products for our project. Custom Stone's work is uncontestably one of the highlights of the new home and has significantly enhanced its aesthetic and value. We cannot speak highly enough of their work and the process of working with them. They worked and collaborated well with other trades/subcontractors, offered up creative solutions and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality. When we were selecting our stone subcontractor, we considered five (5) criteria in the following stack-ranked order: (1) precision in design and craftsmanship, and attention to detail; (2) knowledge of products/materials; (3) design skill in assembling pieces to create contiguous and less visible seams; (4) use of current technology and tools; and (5) reliable and on schedule. Custom Stone achieved the highest marks across all five criteria. We would certainly recommend and hire them again for whatever scope project we consider in the future. read more

I chose custom stone due to the reviews here. They do excellent work and our counters are beautiful. We also got some stone tops on pony walls in a shower. I'm deducting one star because I thought communication could be better. I think people usually do kitchen counters, so the templating checklist they provide would be sufficient. My job was a bit different due to the pony walls. Dimitar was not clear on what the templating appointment constituted, only that we needed to schedule it at least 3 weeks in advance (when we reached out with a 21 day heads-up he got us in 4 weeks later). I asked Dimitar what needed to be ready for the templating. I said "I'm making some plans for the renovation and see we need a 3 weeks headsup for templating. What stage should we be at prior to templating? We have the dimensions for the vanities and counters, the sinks and faucets have been purchased, but none of these are yet installed. The pony walls that you will put the stone on have not yet been built yet either. Should we schedule templating or wait?" Dimitar responded: "Please READ our Pre-Template checklist. It's IMPORTANT for you read it and share a copy with your contractor. Your contractor will know when he will be ready for us to template." No details on the pony walls. When they arrived, there was a lot of back and forth with our contractor on the tiles in the shower, whether they should be installed or not. I write a lot of emails in my work and generally find the use of CAPS to be condescending. Further explanation from the business would have been useful. But their work is good. read more

I found Dimitar to be easy to communicate with, helpful in picking out a slab and the quality of the work was great. I did a compost bin that sits flush with the countertops which had some nuanced planing and it turned out perfectly. read more

Truly professional, awesome quality work, affordable prices, and easy to deal with. Really, could you ask for more? Custom Stone was recommended by one of my co-workers, who had a Caesarstone tabletop fabricated by them. We contacted them for a vanity countertop. I wanted a specific color of Caesarstone quartz and they said, "no problem." Other shops had large minimum orders or required that you bought an entire slab. Other quotes we got were nearly twice as much! Yikes! Customer service was outstanding. I must have e-mailed Dimitar a dozen times, at least, and he always got back to me within a day. They have electronic purchase agreements (like in real estate), which made it very convenient to authorize the work. We mailed them a check for the deposit. They came right on time for the templating and the installation. Originally, I selected a mitered edge, but changed my mind and got the laminated eased edge, at their advice. The mitered edge is prone to chipping and difficult to repair. We were worried that we'd see a seam. However, they reassured us that the seams are undetectable with quartz. And they were right! The finished countertop was exactly the right size (no cutting needed at our house) and the edge was perfect. The installers were careful to drape dropcloths to protect the carpet and cleaned up all of their mess. They had the whole thing done in about an hour. We were referred to Emma with Custom Stone by a friend, and are incredibly thankful for the referral! We ended up using their team for the granite installation for our new kitchen. I was very particular about the slabs that I wanted, and Emma was patient and incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. I had done a custom island with a downdraft range behind a double oven, and her and her team of fabricators were able to do several strategic cuts so I could use one slab instead of having seams. For the one seam I did have to have on the back wall, it's nearly invisible. The slabs were perfect cut to match, and the coloration they used for the epoxy blends perfectly with the slabs themselves. The fabricators were professional and did a wonderful job. The best part was they were able to beat pricing from other competitors like Superior and Dernis. We referred CS to a friend, and CS beat out the competitors again for his rental remodel as well, using remnants instead of picking slabs. I would HIGHLY recommend!! read more

I had been looking for Quartz counter tops everywhere and couldn't find the right place to deal with until I walked into Custom Stone. Immediately I sensed a difference with Dimitar. He was considerate, informative and genuine. I had the measurements with me (always have your measurements with you) and he gave me a quote for the Cambria. Wow...great price ...where do I sign. As promised he showed up on time and created the templates: within the time frame given the counter-tops were ready and once again he showed up on time and installed them flawlessly. I have used Custom Stone for 2 projects. The first project was a 3 unit building located in the Marina. Custom Stone provided ceaserstone countertops for all of the kitchens and bathrooms including a custom ceaserstone fireplace. I was extremely pleased with the outcome and pricing with Custom Stone. Their bid was the least expensive out of 4 different bids, and after quoting the fastest lead time they fulfilled their lead time quote. The second project was a penthouse residential condo located in South Beach which included a ceaserstone countertop for a powder room and calcutta gold countertops for both master and guest bathrooms. They actually went to the stone warehouses with me to help me pick out each slab and were very patient with me. This review is written on behalf of my father who's a luddite but understand the value of Yelp: I was heading to get some flooring material from Lumber Liquidator in San Leandro and accidentally ended up in the showroom of Custom Stone. Because I was in the middle of remodling my kitchen and bathrooms, I naturally asked if they sold granite or stones. They only do fabrication. One of the first thing I noticed was that all the machines were working and wet. This is a good sign of being busy especially in these tough times. Dimitr (the owner) and his partner showed me all the stones they had available and recommended their trusted sources/suppliers so we can have the most variety. Dimitr even offered to get me his wholesale price from the suppliers and fabricate the stones at a competitive rate. After spending an hour and a half I forgot about the lumber my wife told me to get. I hurried home to tell my wife about Dimitr's showroom. She was more impressed than me with the variety of every stone. Dimitr made it so easy for us, that all we had to do was bring in measurements and he'd even haul the stone to his fabrication facility. They fabricated the granite with only one seam (17' x 20'). I had an fantastic experience with Dimitr and his team. They were professional, flexible, on-time and on budget. Because they did such a great job in the kitchen, it gave me the incentive to fabricate the vanities and countertops. Dimitar and Custom Stone were able to offer a 10% discount in the overall price of my 16 sq foot quartz countertop project, compared to a San Carlos countertop company. Price per sq foot was $108. I didn't have time to go out to San Leandro to view their showroom, but trusting their high Yelp reviews, I went ahead and scheduled the measurement and subsequent install. One week after they took the measurement, they arrived with the countertop. Install took about an hour, but the guys were quick and professional. I'm happy with the overall product and service. This is our third job using Dimitar and Custom Stone. I already knew they were the best out there -- immediate response, excellent customer service, impeccable work, very competitive pricing -- that's why they have solid 5-star reviews across the board. But it was really driven home last week how dedicated, how professional Dimitar and his team are when a week ago (a day before our island and countertops were to be installed) a fire broke out a couple doors down from their shop and mostly destroyed their own premises. While the fire was still burning Dimitar was on the phone with me letting me know what was happening, and within 24 hours he had procured another slab of my granite, sent one of his guys over to re-template, and somehow quickly found temporary space to fabricate. I couldn't believe it -- this is without even having had the chance to be allowed by the Fire Department into his shop to assess the damage to his business. My counters and island were installed yesterday (one week later!) and, as always, the work is perfection itself, installed with great attention to detail, by his very professional team. Not an easy job, either, as the island has a support post going through the center of it requiring tricky cuts and flawless matching of a granite piece to minimize seams. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Rarely do you meet someone with such personal integrity and commitment to his clients, especially in the midst of a personal tragedy. Where to start. First off, this kitchen remodel has been an eye-opening experience. It was difficult out of the gate, but I can honestly say Dimitar had my back from the start. Absolutely amazing craftsmanship and professionalism. I have been designing and building houses for 35 years and the workmanship by Dimitar and his crew is as good as it gets. His stone countertops are perfectly fabricated and they are experts at accounting for every imperfection in the cabinets or walls. How good are they? So good that I would sign up for yelp and post my first review. Dimitar and Peytcho are true professionals and craftsman. I recently hired them to install a series of countertops that had all of the difficult details that were on offer; integral sink (mitered to the countertop), waterfall edges with open overhang vertical inside ends (where the counter extends down the sides of the cabinet to rest on the floor) and inset counters with unusual cuts. I had a great experience working with Custom Stone. I bought Caesarstone for my kitchen countertops. Dimitre worked up a bid very quickly after I e-mailed him a sketch and measurements. I compared their price to two other vendors, and chose Custom Stone based on their price and based on the Yelp reviews I read. I was not disappointed. Peycho and another guy came to my house to make a template for the counters, and then did the installation, too. Peycho really knew what he was doing and my confidence in their work was rewarded with beautifully, perfectly installed counters. There was a seam in the counter at one end, and Peycho had told me when they were templating that I wouldn't even be able to see it. He was right! The slabs are so tight next to each other you cannot see a seam. Highly recommend working with these professionals. Also should mention they came to my house on time both for the templating and the installation. And Dimitre replied quickly to all my e-mails. read more

Showed up exactly when they said they would, my countertops look amazing, and they were very professional and easy to work with. Took 7 days from the time they removed the countertops till the new ones were installed but they put the plywood down when they removed the old counters so it wasn't that much of an inconvenience. These guys were fantastic. They did an excellent job on my kitchen remodel where I insisted on having carrera marble despite all of it's foibles. They managed to work the pencil edge so that seam was not visible which I loved! Although Dimitri can come off a bit abrupt and can appear to be a bit too paranoid of letting you know what they are responsible for, I attribute this to being screwed over in the past by former clients or contractors (for me it's exes!) We were doing a very high-end kitchen remodel with quartz counters. We got multiple bids, Custom Stone was very reasonable, great references, visited them at showroom, and we were very impressed. Went with them, they came out and spent 1 hour doing precision measuring, returned one week later with cut stone and installed. We went with 3cm stone, very thick and heavy, but installation was flawless and fast. They mounted and sealed sinks. Very professional and very well done. I highly recommend these guys! I was referred to Dimitre at Custom Stone by a friend. She had extensive granite in her large Presidio Heights home. Her sister had referred her and both were very pleased with their installations. Our granite kitchen island and countertops were installed last week and they are beautiful! Dimitri was extremely helpful during the process. He suggested places to look for slabs and even negotiated prices with them. He worked with us and our contractor and gave us ideas for reinforcing the very large overhang we have on the island. He was also very responsive to my calls and many emails and the turnaround time exceeded my expectations! The seams are very well done and match nicely - virtually invisible! He helped us pick the very best the piece had and avoided using the less than perfect parts. He also did a bathroom vanity top from a remnant I chose from the pieces he had in his shop. It was a less expensive alternative to buying a generic looking top from Restoration Hardware and looks fantastic! Dmitar at Custom Stone did an exceptional job of designing and installing our counters. We're delighted with the care they took in figuring out how to cut the slabs so that we could enjoy the colors and patterns. Since the slabs did not have a regular pattern it was quite a challenge. Making the two "flowers" so prominent was important to us and did a great job with them. We're particularly delighted with the results around the sink. The line of crystals that goes around the sink crosses five different pieces of granite but because it was designed and installed with care it looks fantastic. Not a great experience with Custom Stone. If I can give a lower rating I would. We are looking to remodel our kitchen and met with a very unprofessional salesman last Saturday Nov 8, 2014 @ 12:30 pm. My wife was asking how much was a particular piece of granite and he said it was very expensive ($35,000). She then asked about darker granite and lighter granite qualities. Salesman was very short and rude again. We decided to leave and look else where and ended up at Artistic Stone. I hired Custom Stone based on a reference from a friend. I knew that having my kitchen remodeled and decked out with slab granite wasn't going to be an easy job, so I wanted to make sure I receive the best workmanship possible without being taken advantage of. The owners were very welcoming and helped me throughout the selection process. Any question I had was answered thoroughly and made me feel at ease with my decisions. The end result was absolutely stunning (Black/gold slab granite with a bullnose edge) and I have gotten many comments on how my kitchen is now the focal point of my house. The quality of the workmanship is definitely superior.
