I immediately vibed with the little town. After my daughter picked up some coffee, I knew I wanted to walk around. I was instantly drawn to Umami. What stunning artifacts. As a minimalist, I wanted to buy everything! I graciously and gladly resorted to and settled on a set of earrings and necklace. I absolutely love them. Umami is a beautiful shop. I have purchased online and have been pleased with my purchase and especially with the customer service. A couple of things I ordered were not in stock, and Melanie, the owner, got in touch to ask me how long I could wait, and offered some substitutions. Then when the items were back in stock, she emailed color choices for a textile item so that I could pick the one I wanted. Can't say enough about Melanie! She's a true professional and extremely friendly/approachable. It's obvious that she enjoys what she does and is very knowledgeable. She came to us with various options to chose from and then came back to remeasure when we changed our mind. It was an interesting project because all of our windows are from the 50s with oddities but she made it work. She helped us choose what worked best for our family and budget. In the end, we chose roller shades, with a thinner material in the living room/dining/kitchen, and black out materias for the bedrooms. We couldn't be happier! read more

I found this shop to be an example of Cultural Appropriation at its best. The majority of the gifts that are offered, are hand crafted, or styled from ethnicities of color, while from what I understand the owner is caucasian. Gifts from Mexico, Africa, South America as well as peices made by Indigenous peoples. As a person of color, I find it offensive that an upscale, trendy shop feels compelled to offer ethnic gifts, from countries of color for their own financial gain. read more

Umami Interiors was recommended to us by our color consultant Angelisse Karol whom we have used several times, and she was right. Melanie Goldberg at Umami was a pleasure to work with. We needed window shades on a dozen windows. She came to our house armed with tons of samples. She listened carefully to all of our needs and offered lots of suggestions and options. She left samples with us and ordered more samples. Her method is distinctly low-pressure and helpful, allowing us time to be sure we got exactly what we wanted. Someone else mentioned her great installer Bill. Ditto! He offered some good suggestions, too. The test of a consultant comes when not everything goes smoothly. There was a problem with one vendor, and I can tell you from experience that Melanie is the person you want on your side if things don't go perfectly. She worked tirelessly on our behalf, kept us up-to-date, and we are totally satisfied with our shades and with Melanie. We were so satisfied that we asked her back to be involved in reupholstering our dining room chairs. She knew everything about what type of fabric to order. She again brought tons of samples, and she recommended a great upholsterer, Supreme Interiors. They were well priced, responsive and they, like Melanie, go the extra mile for their customers. I will be calling Melanie again when I have any fabric or window covering projects. read more
