Called in asking if they were buying pc parts (because listings everywhere online say they do)…read more Whomever picked up the phone, who then tells me is the owner at the end but we will get to that part, he had told me, "not traditionally but at times." He sounded so disappointed I wasn't into buying, I mention the 8GB GTX 3070 I have and some high latency DDR4. He just sticks to the ram and says he doesn't buy it, then I reiterated the 3070-- you could tell he perked up. "Oh! You have a 3070?!" I tell him, "Yes, that is what I said." I ask his going rate, he just wants me to throw out a number-- mind you, I had no idea this is the owner (apparently). I ask again, his rate-- he wants to tell me that before he can offer he has to run tests and the tests could in fact take days. Days?! Now, I've ran a shop like this before. I have a background in CIS. I know the tests necessary, a benchmark, a processing overview to check for spikes-- simple things. Never takes, DAYS. I ask, "When was the last time you bought a 3070?" He replied, "a few days ago." I ask him how much he gave, he told me, "100 bucks." I admittedly scoff, I wanted more like 225, I ask him to meet me in the middle at 150. He wants to tell me more about his tests. I inquire further on these, "tests." He is now coping a attitude, wants to let me know he is the owner and at this point he isn't interested and he wouldn't be, "dropping the things he needs to do to run a business." Well, I'll tell ya what, I wouldn't want to shop at a place like this and though I wouldn't be still willing to sell to them-- nah, nah.. Not with that attitude and such a pretentious way to talk to potential customers. Shoppers be warned, and I'd recommend if you go to buy-- ask to test products for a couple of days before paying.

Justin told me that he does a relatively bare bones install and would run all cables up under the eaves of my house and would make it look clean and tight. I was thrilled. I was unable to be present during the install but my boyfriend was there and it did not sound as if Justin was willing to do what he and I had discussed without much coaxing. There were many, "we don't usually do this...." comments that were relayed to me but really those were things that I believed were included in the install as a no-brainer. Maybe I care too much about what the outside of my home looks like, but it did not sound like I would have been pleased whatsoever with Justin's "out of the box" install. In addition, it was noted that while there were a few people on-site, only one person (not the business owner, but a teen) who was actually doing the majority of the work. Install expectations aside, upon fully securing the cables to the side of my home, one of the camera channels failed to come up and would short out all the other cameras on the same power supply if plugged in (likely due to being stapled through). We alerted the installation company to the issue and it took THREE almost FOUR weeks for Justin to come out and resolve the issue. My overall recommendation: pay half up front, and half at the end (like any normal contractor) to make sure that Justin is invested in your project and will see it through. Also, you have to be OK with kids running around and your project getting interrupted 3 times during the day due to inadequate supplies being brought initially and children/teens apparently needing to be transported to different places (no warning up front, very little concern for the job). I just hope that Justin paid the young person who did most of the work most of the money ($700 for an 8 camera install). I assume based on the quality of the communication and professionalism (or lack there-of) that this is not the case.

They were rude, lazy and you had to go through a 30-minute conversation with someone before you can even schedule. Needless to say, we dumped them. Then I blew out my computer. Would we recover our stuff? Our pictures that we foolishly had not printed or backed up. Hubby searched on the web, I posted questions here. Hubby was pretty sure we needed a clean room to recover our data.Hubby knew this because it was making scary noises and he is a software guy. I just go with what he says, I'm a technically challenged social work type. I smile and nod or frown as needed. In a web search for Portland hard drive recovery hubby found Stentorian Data, a local outfit. Steven Lloyd came to our home, picked up the whole PC, took it with him, diagnosed the problem...indeed it was a physical drive failure that required clean room work, shipped it to a place in CA that does the clean room thing, and about a week later we had a new hard drive with all the data restored fully installed by Steve back into the PC. Everything back to us as it was, well better really. He brought it back to our home, too. The cost? Most was for the lab, Steve's labor costs were totally reasonable. He was efficient and professional and we are satisfied with the outcome. Whew. Disaster averted. Hubby would have been really hard to live with if the outcome had been otherwise, so I'm pretty darn relieved.
